Canon XF Media Issue is a Killer

Hey all,
Trying to edit with XF media captured on a Canon C300.  Having a major issue with Adobe Premiere CS6 that has persisted across multiple computers, multiple operating systems, multiple editors, and multiple installs of CS6.  Basically media browser is refusing to read Canon XF media properly.  When reading off of the card directly, or when navigating to the folder once it's copied locally, we can't seem to get Adobe to acknowledge that the directory is a Canon XF directory, the only option we're getting is to view the folder as a file directory.  Yes the files and folder structures were copied properly.
So here's the real fly in the ointment.  We can still import the individual MXF files and they play fine in Premiere, but when a clip is spanned there are some major issues.  Audio drops out of sync, editing with the spanned files breaks shots in the timeline, just really strange stuff.
Contacted adobe twice now and they don't have a solution.  I'd roll back to CS5, but I'm on a new machine now and I'm not sure how to get an older version of premiere installed on my system without an install disc.
Any help out there?
Thanks

I think this issue is related to the audio conforming PPr does for spanned clips.
I shoot with a XF100, so this may be different for you, but I have two suggestions.
First, try to use the Canon XF utility to make ONE SINGLE .mxf of the spanned clips.  When you open the card in the utility, each clip (spanned or not) shows in the preview pane.  Pick one, then under the "Edit..." menu you can save it as one .mxf file.  Do this for all the clips on the card.  You can also take the opportunity to give them meaningful names. Import that file(s) into PPr and edit normally.
Another suggestion is DON'T copy the folder structure of the card to your working drive.  Instead, copy just the .mxf files.  Ignore the .cif, .sif, .thm, .xml, etc. Don't copy the JOURNAL folder. You can preserve the "CLIPSxxx" folders, just discard all the files except the .mxf files.  Import this into PPr (viewing as a file directory).  Yes, you will have to arrange the clips manually, but I just move the first clip to the time line in the correct position, then highlight the rest and drag them into place after the first.
WIth either method, PPr should not try to conform the audio, it will just generate the .pek file for the audio waveforms.
If you use the second method, you do have to be careful not to inadvertently grab a clip at the start or end and change the in/out point of the clip.  Personally, I use the first method as it gives me a backup of the video.  I copy the card to my computer verbatim, then make the single .mxf file to a work drive.  When the project is done, I archive the big .mxf file and discard the card structure.
Since adopting this method I have not had a single issue.
FWIW...

I have used it as a deck in a pinch but I will also say that I use a deck most often these days.

  • Shifting  new media issue from monday to Wednesday

    hi all,
is it possible to add new issue at odd weekday in already created (created in Advance) weekly media issue through edit Sequence for a year.
Eg: created media issue for Monday weekdays...for whole year..now management decide to change print it on Wednesday.
How to do it and what are the effect of those old Monday issue in system..
    Regards
    Sudarshan

    Hello Sudarshan,
as far as I know you have to delete the media issues if you have already generated them into the future.
So if the change would become effective as of July 1st and you have already generated until the end of the year you have to delete all media issues between July 1st and December 31st.
Once this is done you can create new entries using the new template.

  • Problems importing Canon HF10 media into FCP7

Hello everyone, hoping for what I hope will be an obvious answer, but one I've yet to find myself!
I am trying to import files directly from a SDHC card from a Canon Vixia HF10 into the latest version of FCP Studio 7, ( and also I've tried to import into FCExpress ver4 too ), but without success when I put the card into the SDHC reader slot in my new 27" Quad iMac. I get a message when using Log and Transfer saying that it is an incompatible file format. However I can import the files if I download via the camera and USB connection into Log and Capture, that's not always possible of course when the camera's not here, but the used cards are. I have also tried another SDHC card reader into an open USB slot, ( the way I normally import files from my Sony EX1R for instance....), but that doesn't work either.
I know there's an issue with the AVCHD files that the Canon produces, but I thought that recent FCP and FCE applications could deal with that. I am running OSX 10.6.3. In the Log and Capture import prefs the AVCHD option is set to Apple Pro Res 422 HQ. The iMac is a new 27" 2.66 GHz Quad core i5. But I have the same importing issue with my 17" MBP as well.
Any clues would be gratefully received, thanks!

OK, just found the solution, and as pretty much always, it was "operator error"........
The camera, Canon HF10, was set to record to it's internal memory, not the SDHC card. So that's why media could be read when you downloaded via USB2 cable connection, but if you tried to read from the SDHC card slot on the Mac there was nothing there to read. Would have stumbled across this earlier if the error message stated "no media", but it didn't it just said the media could be read.
Solution, set the camera to record to the SDHC card not the internal memory and Log and Capture picks it up just fine with the card is in the reader.
    best.......Peter

    Hi,
Go to the background before excuting the programme SAPFPAYM and create a variant.
Assign the variant which you have created to the payment method in transaction code: OBPM4
Before the second step, after creating variant in the first step, please assign the created format in FBZP settings in payment method.
    This will resolve the issue.

  • T400 Streaming Media Issue

Hey. I recently got a Lenovo T400 (type 2764, sn xxxxx) and after a few months of everything working fine the streaming media stopped working. The problem started soon after I got the machine back from Lenovo after sending it in to repair the integrated camera. My T400 can pick up other system's media servers but other systems can not pick up my computer. Re-imaging my hard drive seems to fix the problem, but only temporarily. A day or two after re-imaging, the problem pops back up. Anyone else had this problem or have an idea how to fix it?  Is there some kind of updating issue?  Identical machines from my office that we ordered at the same time don't seem to have this problem.

Also before anyone asks we are using RTMP and the file type is F4V not FLV.

  • Photoshop CS - Canon Pro9000 ICC issue

I'm using Photoshop CS with Apple OS 10.6.2 on a 24' iMac. I am trying to print to a Canon pro9000 Mark II.
I have the latest Canon driver, 10.30.3.0, and the latest ICC profile set for Canon from the Apple driver site. As I begin the print dialogue everything seems fine. Photoshop is controlling color management, and I select the Canon paper/quality ICC profile. After I click print, it sends the print job and I get the following error: "Could not print "test.jpg" because the ICC profile is no longer installed."
The Photoshop issue has been consistent. I used the standard drivers and profiles that came on the Canon disk; then I ran Software Update for the driver; then I downloaded the complete 10.30.3.0 ICC set from Apple. Each time I get this same error message. It occurs immediately AFTER Photoshop says the file is sent to the printer.
It doesn't appear to be the printer alone, since I can successfully print from Photoshop Elements, Apple Preview, and using the Canon "Easy Print Pro" plugins within Photoshop.  I can even print through Photoshop Print Preview, but I can't control color there.
Any ideas around what happens to the ICC files in the standard Photoshop CS print dialogue?
    Thanks.

I gave that Canon rep the exact same rebuttal - also quoted from information that you had talked about last weekend and in lock step he simply embraced the Canon company line over and over.  I asked if they had printed with Photoshop, to see where their code is generating an error and the illogic notion that a missing profile would be the responsibility of Adobe.  He wouldn't even entertain the concept; walked me through a plug and play feature of my Pixma printer to show that it is printing just fine - never mind that my picture came out looking like a washed out, colorless of image that had none of the characteristics of the picture in my monitor generated in Elements 9.
I asked him 'didn't printer drivers come from the manufacturers themselves?'  "Nope, they all come from Adobe."
So just complete and total BS.  Nowhere to turn now.  Without those ICC printer profiles, color management is just an esoteric concept that exists in the minds of Canon CSA reps.
Canons' 1 million pixel capability might as well be 1 trillion for all the good it does.
Judging from the threads out there, I'd bet that Canon has boatloads of other complaints re this profile issue.

I got the same type of error from attempting an audio only export.  I just upgraded from CS3.  This project was crated in CS3, then converted to CS4.  No other issues with the upgrades.  My only guess is that converting the session from a CS3 to CS4 is the causing this.  Can someone please help?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for those details.  I just noticed that all the avi and wavs are still located in the CS3 folder from the previous installation.  Could that be the hitch?
This project was created in CS3, then converted 2 days ago into a CS4 project.  There was some wierdness on a few things after conversion, but nothing out of the ordinary and CS4 is running like a champ on my system until I attempted to do this bounce.  I am new to Premiere, so I may be missing something as simple as updating filepaths, etc.?
Yes, MP3 is terrible.  I have the v.o. in wav.  Honestly, I didnt notice the music track was in MP3 until gathering project specs for this.  I was planning on replacing that for the final export.  Im using a 3rd party sidechain VST for the ducking in PPro.....Sidekick 4.1:  http://www.twistedlemon.nl/site/
It requires tht you run two instances of the plugin on seperate stereo tracks (still need to deal with the vo track having to be in stereo for now).

  • Create Task Sequence Media Issue

I am 1 of 2 people that have full admin access to our config manager environment and when I create a bootable USB stick I get an error, "80004005", after I complete the HTA which indicate a certificate issue.
However if I have my colleague create it, who is the other full admin, using the same configuration I do not get the error and see the deployments.  Any suggestions?

Sorry as i re-read my message I see that I was not clear.  I do not get an error while creating the bootable media, I receive that error when I attempt to use the bootable media
    to OSD a device.
I am getting the 0x80004005 error post boot after I complete the HTA's questions, in the boot image, and before it looks for the available task sequences deployed to that device.

  • L675D-S7016 Recovery media issue.....

I have a L675-S7016 laptop that the hard drive failed. I purchased a new Toshiba hard drive Model # HDDR500102X,
and installed it in my laptop. Then I purchased the recovery media disks. My problem is, When I put the 1st recovery disk in, it loads, I get the "starting Windows" icon, and the it stops. I have a black screen, and a mouse arrow that does move with the mouse. After a minute or two, I get a message that says " windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer" Then down below it says "unexpected I/O error has occured" Do I need to change something in the BIOS to continue to install the OS? Am I having the issue with the newer hard drive problem I've read about? Please, can some one help me? I would be humbly grateful.......

I don't know enough about how Toshiba does things. But you ought to be able to restore from a USB flash drive.

  • Canon 20D import issue with lightroom 4

I have recently upgraded to Lightroom 4 and when I connect my Canon 20D the import screen finds the camera, displays thumbnails.  However, when I press the import key the software displays a message that no photos have been found.  I tried several times one time it identified the photos however it gave an error message that the photos could not be imported because of an error.  What gives

I'm having the same exact issue, using a Canon G11.
Looking on other forums, I've found this:
This issue is fixed in the second Lightroom 4.1 pulic Release Candidate, available for download here:

    2. Sound is coming from the camera itself, but not through the actual monitor
I purchased the second monitor as I embark on a documentary, and I need some specific help so that everything will be up and running smoothl

  • Conforming Media Issue

I don't know what it is. But sometimes when I import video into AFX, the media doesn't "conform" like it supposed to and all I get is the "Media Pending" yellow screen of irritation.
Recently I had been importing M2T files. Usually they conform and the images come out, but randomly, bout 3rd of the time they don't.
Usually I reinstall FFDSHOW then reboot and it seems to work.
Any intelligence on this issue would be nice.
    Thanks :)

AE CS3 "conforms" long-GOP formats such as MPEG into a faster-to-access internal file format. I guess the footage is from a camera that isn't yet supported, so you might want to transcode it in an external program before working with it in AE.

  • FCP 10.1 Import Tape based media Issue

When I import tape based media in FCP X 10.1 the 'capture' window weirdly flickers between what appears to be the 1st frame on the tape and the one currently being injested.  The media does seem to import correctly, and I'm able to skim the clip once it's finished with import, but I'm nervous to start editing with it in case there is some issue with the way it's being injested.
    Thanks for any help.
    Steve Pustay

    Hey Steve,
I'm having the exact same problem.  For those who can help but need some additional info: I'm capturing from a Sony HVR -M25U HDV deck via Firewire 800 onto a MAC Pro tower running Mavericks.
    also
from a DSR-40 DVcam deck via Firewire 800 onto an IMac also running Mavericks
I've been doing this seamlessly for a few years till 10.1
Additionally, now my "j" and "l" keys are not communicating with either deck.  Again this is since the upgrade.
Anyone with ideas on how to solve this one?
Sorry I couldn't help you Steve.  Maybe this extra detail will get us some help.
    Good Luck
