Canon XL2 & Audio/Video Settings

HELP! I have looked some of the previous threads on this issue and tried changing settings, but am still having a mismatch between what voices are saying and lips moving after I capture and then play in canvas.
I shot at 16x9, 24p 2:3.
What are the best audio/video settings to use to be able to capture/edit and ultimately export to DVD while preventing this problem???
I have latest version of final cut pro.

Usually audio desyncronization (is this a word?) comes from the audio being recorded at 32khz and FCP looking for 48khz files. When you play back, FCP is madly trying to fix the missing 16khz and doing a bad job of it. the Audio often just wanders off into it's own world.
Does it start in sync and drift or is it off the whole time?
x
By the way - "latest version" is not a useful statement. What are the exact versions of FCP, QT and OSX you are running?

  • Full screen preview blanked out in from options in audio video settings?

    Hi all,
Am running FCP6 and have lost the option to preview fullscreen in the audio video settings menu. It is literally missing, as an option, though the space the option inhabited is still there. Only options I have are to preview via firewire to my CRT monitor. I have tried to refresh AV devices and all frames, but doesn't seems to help/work.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    -Tom

Hi David and thanks for your suggestion. I gave it a try and no luck. Its just the same. I have no options in video playback at all unless I connect my deck and then I have only the via firewire options, the deck provides. BTW, I know its the wrong forum, but I have the same blanking out situation in the output filed in MOTION.
Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Tom

  • Can't open audio/video settings, losing audio also

    Hi folks
Get a general error (34) when I go to access audio video settings. I tried trashing prefs per the advice in another thread, but still get the error.
When editing, audio seems to be working fine as long as I don't send it out to my monitor. Then the audio drops out completely. Audio and video playback is set to firewire ntsc, and audio follows video. On audio, the rest of the options are grayed out, so I was trying to get into the av settings to see what's going on.
The setup has been working fine before but I don't recall if I changed any settings. Also it's FCP HD 4.5. Thanks

I selected 'none' for video playback and it let me into the av settings. The only option not grayed was 'built in audio," so I selected that. Then back in my sequence, I chose video playback 'firewire ntsc." It then let me select audio settings and I chose built in audio." Then it worked.
Hope this helps someone with the same issue in the future.

  • CUCILYNC with Lync Audio/video settings enabled supported ?

    Hello,
for one of my customer I want to install CUCILYNC and Cisco Telephony for a part of the users.
Actually this customer user LYNC for IM/Presence and use the Audio/Video feature for making audio and video calls and conference calls.
In the CUCILYNC configuration guide, Cisco recommends to edit all the CUCILYNC users in the LYNC server to change Telephony settings to Audio/Video disabled (Recommended).
Is it possible to keep this audio/video settings to enable and to have 2 ways to make Video and audio calls : with Cisco capabilitites and with Lync capabilities.
does it work ? If yes, how does it appear on the end-user client ?
is it supported by Cisco ? And Microsoft ?
has anyone making this kind of configuration before ?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Regards,
    Baptiste Croizer

Yes it works, it's just confusing to users as both buttons are lit up. If you set the registry key to IM only all of the Enterprise Voice-related buttons are greyed out.
Each vendor supports only their pieces.

  • Audio/Video settings

Requesting help on settings in FCP 7. I am bringing in footage from a Sony Z5u in 1080i, from a cf card with a fire wire reader. I plan to burn my edited project to DVDSD after sending to compressor. What should my settings be in Audio/Video settings tab in FCP for best results? No luck burning a presentable DVD so I'm starting from scratch trying to figure out what could be wrong. Any help appreciated. Thanks, John

It's not the same, the issue is you're in NTSC. Standard def in NTSC is 29.97 fps.
the "look" of the footage is different. there are no pulldown frames in 30 F.
in 24F DV the pulldown is 2:3:2:3 to make up the frames required to run at 29.97 fps
There are HD formats in NTSC which support 23.98 fps just no SD formats
there are settings in FCP that will allow you to edit in 23.98fps Standard def but when it goes to tape a pulldown is inserted to bring the frame rate to 29.97
The reason to offline edit in 23.98 DV is a saving in disk space and lower CPU demand than editing the full resolution of 4K, HD etc.
The reason to edit in DV and stay there ie file based for compressions etc is you have progressive frames throughout the piece and that can look better on progressive scan monitors like a computer.

  • Easy Setup and Audio Video Settings (FCP7)

    Hello,
I am a newbie editor in fcp 7. in fact, I´m newbie on pos production. I´ve been working and editing less than a year (Premiere Pro)
Now I am using FCP7 (and FCPX) but my question is...in fcp7, why do I need Audio/Video Settings and Easy Setup if
final cut has open format sequences?
    thx

Well, strictly speaking on FCP 7 and earlier (since this particular forum is for older FCP...not FCX)...yes, you do.  You need to choose the Easy Setup that matches the footage you are using.  If you have multiple formats, try to convert the footage to a single format.  Don't belive this Apple marketting about "open format sequences."
There are some exceptions...like you can have ProRes footage, and a ProRes sequence...and also edit in HDV or XDCAM footage in that. IN fact, it's best to edit HDV and XDCAM as ProRes.  Don't have an XDCAM sequence setting and edit ProRes into that...XDCAM is inferior to ProRes.
Also...don't edit may formats natively.  Meaning H.264, MP4, AVCHD...there are many formats that FCP just doesn't work with properly. FCX will even ask to "optimize" the media...meaning convert to ProRes.  FCP 7 is a different beast than Adobe Premiere Pro. PPro will allow you to edit formats natively...it's designed to do that. FCP 7 is not....and that's a pretty important difference to know. FCP 7 wants media to be in FCP editing codecs before you start...such as ProRes.

  • Final cut pro audio/video settings

    Hello everyone:

    thanks

This is the quick and dirty way of doing it. Read the manuals (FCP, Compressor, DVD Studio Pro) for more information.
Control-click on the sequence name in your Browser in FCP, and select Export > Using Compressor. The sequence name will then show up in Compressor. Select the sequence name that just showed up, and then on the top of the screen select one of the DVD:xxxxxx settings for your project. I would recommend the Best Quality options. You will see 90, 120, 150 minute options. Pick the lowest that you can without it being shorter than your sequence. For example, if your sequence is 92 min, select the 120 min option. You will need an MPEG setting as well as the Dolby setting. Once you have selected your presets, set their destination - use Desktop for now. When you have selected the Settings and Destination for the sequence, Click "Submit" on the lower right of the screen. Batch Monitor will pop up, telling you the progress. When the job has completed, open up DVD Studio Pro.
Once DVDSP loads, you will see on the left side of the screen two large icons in the Graphical tab window. Select each one, control-click on it, and select Delete. Now click File > Import > Asset and choose each one of the files you encoded to your desktop. You should have an MPEG and a Dolby file. They will then show up in the lower left of your screen in the Assets tab once you have imported them. Select both at the same time, then simply drag them to the open space in the Graphical tab. It will create an icon like the ones you deleted. Control-click on the new icon, and select First Play. Put in a blank DVD, and then go to File > Burn. Once this is done burning you will end up with a DVD that you just put in your player and it will automatically play.
Like I said, this is quick and dirty. Read the manuals, play with different settings, and get comfortable with each application.

  • Can audio/video settings be in HD and Sequence in SD?

Is it a problem to have your audio/video settings set for HD, and your seqence set for SD?
Is audio/video setting just for new projects? (I think my current project is SD, which is what I want), and I'd like to create a new project in HD.
When my SD project is open, sequences are SD, and audio/video is HD. If the sequence is SD, doesn't that mean that the media files rendered on it are also SD- regardless of what the audio/video settings are?

Umm, in a word, how much do you want to render?
You do know that your clip properties must match your sequence properties otherwise you're in for a world of rendering.
Reading a lot of these posts around here, there's a common conception that it's just a matter of rendering to create high definition video out of standard definition and going back the other way. I'm not sure where this came from other than a lack of understanding about video formats and then subsets of formats within those formats, namely ITU-R 709 (high definition video) and ITU-R 601 (standard definition video).
When you cross formats, you're crossing more than just an aspect ratio and a couple of letters. There's the matter of gamma differences, color space differences, pixel aspect ratio differences and pixel count differences. When you up or down convert video, even on horrendously expensive hardware converters, where are all those extra pixels going or coming from?
GU, if you don't know what video format your current sequence is in now, I would highly suggest some more self-education before you dive into high definition. You can start [here|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_formats] and [here|http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/tv.htm] or perhaps I'm just getting crotchety in my middle age and expect people do to things properly. These tools are cheap, TV is easy, ain't it?
Good luck with your project. Short answer from me is no, do not travel down your current path, learn how to do things the right way.

  • When importing from Canon XL2, audio is delayed by 5 seconds

When I import from Canon XL2, the audio track is there, but it is off by a few seconds. At first it was only about 1 or 2 seconds, but when I re-imported it got worse. It's fine when I import through iMovie, but I lose my multiple audio tracks.
I know I can re align on the timeline, but that's not the point!
    Thanks for help

You may have nearly filled up your hard disc.
1 hour of DV is about 13GB. Trying to capture a 2nd hour would take you up to about 26GB of space used up on your hard disc.
It's better to capture to an internal disc, or to a FireWire-connected external disc, as USB - even USB 2.0 - can't necessarily keep up with the constantly sustained data throughput speeds which DV needs.
A Mac needs about 10% of your total hard disc space to be empty, to allow for its internal 'housekeeping', log files, virtual memory files, etc. So if you have an 80GB internal disc, with, say, 13GB of operating system & programs, plus, say, 20GB of pictures, plus, say, 13GB of documents, and you add 13GB (1 hour's worth) of video, that's 59GB, and you'll need about 8GB of free space, that's 67GB accounted for, leaving about 13GB empty for your 2nd hour.
But that spare 13GB of spare space may be scattered around the disc, and not all in one sequential region, which may be why you're getting stuttering.
Not only that, but there may be 'dropouts' on the tape (brief signal disappearance) which may not show on the camcorder (..because many camcorders substitute a previous frame of video for any damaged frame..) but may only show up when you try importing. This may happen if, for instance, you recorded at a slower than normal speed, e.g; LP speed instead of Standard Play speed.
So check, first, how much empty space you have on your internal disc, and see if your external disc can be attached by FireWire, instead of the - what's becoming almost ubiquitous - USB connection.

  • Audio/Video settings + EXPORTING

I have taken some courses in FCP and also read the whole manual FCP 5 BUT still I'm very unsure about my settings. I would be so thankful if someone could help me with my questions. Im located in Europe. So my settings should be suitable for PAL.
    1. If I want to import clips (from a HDV camera) but the mini dv is filmed on an unknown DV camera. What is the best settings for this?
    2. If someone have sent me a quicktime movie file to edit in FCP what is the best setting for this?
    3. When I'm exporting my clips from FCP I have tried many ways, BUT still don't know the best one?
    a. using quictime convension and then import the file in to idvd and then burn? This has worked ok
    b. Using compressor to mak a mpeg4 file. This has worked but my picture looks stretched out on the diagonal? Why?
c Using DVDSP whit not adding any menu just adding the clip into the Grapichal window. This does not work. When I try to wach the dvd it comes up wit folders named HV000101 BUP,EVO,IFO? Why?
QUESTION: HOW DO I EXPORT MY CLIPS THE EASIEST WAY TO A DVD DISK TO PLAY IT BACK ON MY DVD PLAYER?
Thank you so much if you are thinking of answering my questions....
    XO Danijela

EASY SET UPS are setup templates that you choose from FINAL CUT PRO in the menu bar.
If you are working with the type of HDV you describe then you can choose the EASY SET UP for
    HDV 1080i 50
If you want to work with DV then choose the EASY SETUP I list originally, DV PAL (or DV PAL Anamorphic if that's what you've shot) or DV PAL FIREWIRE BASIC depending on the camera or deck you are capturing from... Canon usually requires FW BASIC.
Again. If you are going to iDVD, do not export using Conversion. iDVD will encode it's own MPEG 2 file. Any Conversion or compression you add during the export will only degrade the quality of the file that iDVD will be compressing again. Start with the best quality you can by following the export steps I outlined earlier.
Not sure bout the stretch but after opening the file in QT try WINDOW > SHOW MOVIE PROPERTIES click on PRESENTATION check CONFORM APERTURE - CLEAN If it fixes the issue save the file and it should open this way every time after.

  • Audio Video Settings.....HELP PLEASE!

Greetings, I just purchased Final Cut Pro and I have a Canon Vixia HF20 camera. I am trying to import footage into FCP. I'm not sure what my settings should be in order for me to get the best quality. My camera uses a usb plug to connect with my computer does this affect the quality? what are the correct settings for import??? Please help, ANYONE

Aha ... the problem with the Canvas window is that it is not really intended to be used as for full resolution monitoring, indeed it can't be used for that, its just a proxy representation of that full quality image. Monitoring should, if at all possible, happen on a dedicated external reference display ... folks add I/O solutions to their systems specifically for this reason (amongst others). These days we are lucky to have an ever increasing number of inexpensive solutions from the likes of a Blackmagic Design, Matrox, Motu and AJA ... if you are intending to work professionally or semi-professionally with todays HD formats then you'll probably want to add something like that to your system so that you can edit with a little more confidence in your images. For starters, have a look at the Blackmagic Design Intensity card or the Matrox MXO2 Mini.
    Hope it helps

  • Unique audio/video settings per user account?

I have a rather strange question...
I recently purchased my first mac and love it so far, but being a windows user for 15 years is taking some getting used to.
    My situation:
(VIDEO) I currently have a mac mini hooked up to a monitor utilizing the mini-port to DVI. Secondly I am using the HDMI port out to an HDTV.
(AUDIO) I am using the headphone out to my DVI monitor and my HDMI obviously runs through the HDMI cable.
I have setup 3 user accounts...mine, my wife's, and one for a "media center".
    My question:
Is there any way that I can setup the "media center" user account to be the only account that will recognize only the HDMI port for video/audio? Since I have my mac in a different room from my HDTV, I do not want to be going back and forth every time I wish to utilize my "media center" account.
I hope my issue is clear...thanks in advance for any help!

ProRes ships with Final Cut Pro 6 - it does not come with 5.
You can download the decoder separately but I don't know how well that will work on older versions of FCP:

  • Do Audio/Video settings matter?

Does it matter what the sequence and capture preset are when editing? I have always ignored these settings and just kept it at all settings. Now I am not so sure I have been doing the right thing. I am editing a short film shot on Panasonic dvx-200 and I logged and captured it, and I just noticed my sequence and capture preset was DV NTSC 48 KHZ. I always thought that the export to compressor was the most important thing in terms of quality of the video. I am confused about this.
    Doug

naaaaa Settings and standards don't matter at all. Go ahead and degrade your video all you want, nobody will notice and no one seems to care any more. With video editing so cheap these days, it's too much trouble for new editors to learn what all that stuff is about. They all just want a one-button magic application that will spit out the next blockbuster movie.
Here's a great example of editing without knowing what you're doing: http://fredandsharonsmovies.com/
