Canon XLH1 Support

Is the Canon XlH1 supported yet for FCP HD? If not, is there an expected time of support on the timetable?

The Canon produces mt2 files, I believe.
My understanding is that Canon's mt2 files are not directly supported by FCP. You have to capture with a 3rd party utility and use MPEG Streamclip.
You might try:

  • Canon stopped supporting Canoscan 9950F on Apple, but still on Windows 8.  What can I do to fix this?

Upon upgrading to the latest Apple release, my Canon Canoscan 9950F no longer works.  After dialoging with the Canon representatives, the offered me a "discounted price" on new hardware.  They support Windows 8, but decided not to support Mountain Lion.  What can I do?  I have a $400 dollar paper-weight that I don't want to send to the landfill.
"Thank you for contacting Canon product support.  Due to the age of the scanner, Canon has decided not to support the CanoScan 9950F on 10.8.  For customers in this situation, Canon offers the Canon Loyalty Program.  This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system.  This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price."
Note - if I have to replace this, what is the best scanner to use for film and negatives?

Since you purchased Lion at some point, I wonder if the most cost effective move would be to spend under $100 for a new USB3 external drive, and install Lion and your 9950F scanner drivers there. Boot external when you want to scan. Drive visible to Mountain Lion desktop for shared files. The USB3 drive is backwards compatible with USB2. Western Digital has some portable Mac drives here. The 1TB is $99 at Best Buy in the U.S.
If you still have a machine running Lion, you can boot into Recovery and have it install onto the new USB3 external drive. Otherwise, it is another Lion download. Do not run the installer. Then you let Lion Diskmaker build you an external, bootable USB Lion installer stick.

  • Why does Canon NOT support the Canon Utilities software?

The Canon Map Utility software can not detect my Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2.  Over the phone, Canon "Customer Support" had me uninstall all 10 Canon Utilities that I had previously installed, and then let me install only 8 older versions of Canon Utilities.  And, the Canon Map Utility software STILL could not detect my Canon GP-E2.
Why doesn't Canon have ANYONE who knows the Canon Utility software?  The first support rep had NEVER used any of the software!  And the second support rep, whom I was transfered to by a Supervisor who told me that this was the most experienced support person for the software, has only used the software ONCE!
Why does Canon NOT SUPPORT Canon software?????

When I use the GPS-E2 on my camera, the pictures have are geotagged.  It's when I try to use the GPS log that Map Utility has a problem.  I like the idea of recording where I went, not just where each picture was taken.  That way, I can see where I found nothing to take pictures of.

  • NO Canon RAW support?

After watching a video of Steve Jobs annoucing that iPhoto 5 included RAW support, I purchased a Canon 350 Rebel XT. Today I shot some photo's of my son's baseball game in RAW. When I tried to import them they are unreadable by iPhoto.
Why is the most popular consumer DSLR not supported? I have all the latest patches for iPhoto and Tiger.
I am starting to see iPhoto turning out like iSync with very limited support for certain devices. I hope their is a solution inside iPhoto and not another software package.

There is no standard RAW format and each company has developed their own. I don't know how new the 350 XT is but I'm guessing it's format is different from the earlier Canon's that are supported by iPhoto. I'm guessing that support for that particular format will come in one of the next updates but it's impossible to predict.
If you plan to use RAW mostly from here on in you might look into iView MediaPro. It handles 70 standard formats and 50+ advanced formats, including RAW, PDF, postscript, fonts, audio and video.

  • Canon 7D support, when?

When can we expect a release for the full support of the Canon 7D RAW files?
As a software developer I don't understand why Adobe doesn't work with Canon/Nikon/Sony etc to support any new camera before it gets released?
    Thank you,

    ChodTheWacko wrote:
Unless the CR2 format is finalized for a camera, it doesn't benefit anyone for Canon to release specs for it.
However, once the camera is released, It is surprising that Canon isn't more open about it.  Not having
ideal day one support is unfortunate but I suppose unavoidable.  But possibly never getting it at all is just ...... odd.
No...it's typical. You don't understand the timing of these things. While Canon may (or may not) provide Adobe a preproduction camera or sample files, clearly Adobe can't base final work on preproduction models. Things change in cameras, firmware and files formats right up to the last moment. So, unless Canon goes out of their way to provide Adobe one of the first cameras in-country to test against, Adobe CAN'T even START working on decoding the raw files and supporting the camera till the camera ships...
Depending on when that may fall in the already set schedule for new Camera Raw versions (to support yet even MORE new cameras) the wait for new camera buyers could be a couple of months...
I know for a fact the Camera Raw engineers try very hard to get new camera support in as soon as possible–even going to the extent of putting in unofficial and preliminary support such as with the Canon 7D. But the bottom line is that until the camera makers change either the way they release cameras and new file formats, there will be a delay between the release of a new camera and 3rd party support for that camera.
And whining about it (and claiming because one happens to be a software engineer that the situation doesn't make sense) does absolutely ZERO to resolve the issue. The ACR engineers aren't gonna be able to get this stuff done quicker than what they are already doing...
There is a real good solution already out there. DNG If the camera makers offered DNG as a file format option, new cameras would automatically get Camera Raw support out of the box without any time delay between camera release and Camera Raw updates.
So, if you want to have any impact in the current situation, I suggest you all go complain to Canon, Nikon and the like who continue to spawn off new undocumented, proprietary raw file formats for each and every new camera–which is the root problem of this whole situation...
But do everybody the favor to learn about and fully comprehend the situation before you lay the blame at Adobe's doorstep.

Did your camera come with a software install disk? My Canon Rebel came with a disk containing EOS Utility and Digital Photo Professional for handling and converting RAW images.

  • Canon USB support and Adobe CS2

I have a 17" 2.16 MacBook Pro. It came preinstalled with 10.4.6 I think the laptop is great, but the OS has broken some of my software applications. For example, I can no longer shoot tethered with my Canon 5D to the application Capture One. Nor can I shoot tehtered using Canon's software. I have been told by Canon and by Capture One that it is something that occured in 10.4.6 that no longer supports Canon's USB connection. Other users have said that it works in 10.4.5, but I cannot roll back to 10.4.5, because my machine came with 10.4.6 installed. Please tell me that this is something that will be fixed ASAP. Also, I have been having increasing difficulties with Adobe CS2 software. Crashes lots, or flat out refuses to open files. No support from Adobe yet and it appears like there wont be any time soon. I thought Rosetta could handle this stuff adequately. So What's Up With This?

CS2 worked fine and not even that slow (much better than an old G4 PB) when I was running it until CS3 came out. There is nothing endemic with MBP and CS2 at all.
Can the Canon connect to the MBP with USB for something simple like mounting for copying files over?

    Powermac Quad 2.5 GHz, 3GB Ram, 7800GT   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hello Tyson.
For me it was a question of cost and reach.
I mainly do wildlife, so I like having the 1.6x crop factor so my 400mm becomes 680. I think this would be very important for surfing as well. However I bet you would find an extremely fast AF and the weather sealing of the 1D Mark II N very nice for sports. I would of loved to get one, but I could not justify the ~$3500. So i just upgaded my 10D and I love it so far.
Usually in the Canon forums on dpreview there are tons of people ready to share experiences and pictures. www.dpreview.com

  • Canon 5D - Supported okay ?

Hi, I'm moving up to a Canon 5D from a previous 300D. Are there any issues with Aperture and the 5D, is it fully supported etc. ? I don't seem to be able to find very much on the Apple web site with regard to camera support.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Thanks Jon & Eric.
I received my 5D and have been importing into Aperture successfully. I thought I noticed some idiosynrasies with picture styles - but have since realised that the errors were probably due to me, and have rectified my other thread accordingly. I'm starting to appreciate the power of aperture as I evaluate the 5D. The ability for me to quickly import, sort, adjust, print and discard etc. a series of test photos is amazing.

  • Canon 7D Support

Any idea when ACR will be updated to support the new Canon 7D RAW format?

There is preliminary support, already, in that the current versions of ACR, LR, and DNG Converter contain a single Beta camera-profile for the 7D.
ACR is updated approximately every 13 weeks, and it's been out since Sept 15th, so full support should be within another couple months, although sometimes there is a beta version of ACR available at Adobe Labs a few weeks ahead of the release.

  • Canon not supporting mac mp830 faxes

I would really like to use my mp830 for faxing. But, Canon says they aren't supporting (see email from Canon below). Has anyone figured out how to make an MP830 fax?
    +Dear Yemington:+
+Thank you for your inquiry regarding the faxing capabilities of the+
+PIXMA MP830. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the+
    +opportunity to assist you.+
+Currently, Canon has decided to only support PC faxing on the Microsoft+
+Windows operating systems. We understand, and sincerely apologize for+
+any frustration you have experienced if your operating system falls+
    +outside of this category.+
+You should be able to fax files directly from your computer to any fax+
+machine or computer that is set up to receive faxes. As long as your+
+computer has a modem that is connected to a phone line, and a program+
+that controls fax transmission and reception you should be able to send+
+or receive faxes from the computer.+
+If you do have the internal dial up/fax modem on the computer, you can+
+perform an online search for the necessary software to control fax+
+transmission and reception from your computer.+
+I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we can+
+be of any further assistance with your PIXMA MP830.+
    +Thank you for choosing Canon.+
    Sincerely,
    George
    +Technical Support Representative+

Without a driver for the fax component there won't be a way to get computer faxing to function. And I have never heard of there being a fax driver for the MX and MP series for Mac OS X. As the email response stated, there are only fax drivers for Windows.

  • Canon M80 Support

    Hi,
I am posting this question in this forum since it is photography related but I think it has to do more with OSX 10.5.x then aperture.
I have a Canon M80 backup device that I have used in the past with a mac that had OSX 10.4 but I have since purchased a new computer that came with OSX 10.5 which does not appear to support the M80. Problem is that I just got back from 7 weeks of shooting and I need to import the pictures in to aperture but the OS is not mounting the backup device.
Does anyone have any tricks that I could try to make this work
    Thanks

mine just shows up as an external drive ... like any card in a card reader ... no tricks ... there was a firmware update to it a while back though ...
try different cables, ports, etc ... can you try another computer to see if it mounts there ???
i assume that it obviously has power and you can read the files on there ???
