Canon XML tags lost or just hidden?

I'm using Aperture to catalog JPEGs taken with a Canon 2S IS. It seems not all of Canon's XML tags are imported. I can see all the info in Canon's own Image Browser software, but not in Aperture. Color balance, ASA and things like that seem to get lost in the translation.
I remember reading somewhere awhile ago that Canon doesn't use standard XML fields. Is that true? And if so, can't Apple just import all extraneous XML data into random unnamed fields that the user can then tag?
Is this data really in Aperture and I just can't find it, or is it not imported because it doesn't match what Apple expects to find?
Thanks for any tips.

I'm sorry for being so dense, but I'm not quite following, although what I've tried makes me think if I can follow you, it will work :)
To answer your initial questions, you are correct with both your assumptions:
1) detailType is the parameter that specificies YTD/Weekly, this is a "report defined" parameter that I am using to determine which Row Group to display (either YTD or Weekly)
2) SchoolDaysActiveWeek is the parameter that is being set to either true or false -- this is a field in the cube that states whether that record is for the current week or not
So in following your instructions, well that's the problem I'm not quite following :)
1) When you say Delete the SchoolDaysActiveWeek parameter from the report only, do you mean to mark the parameter as Hidden? If so, I've done this.
2) I'm not quite sure where to use the statement you provided me. You said to put it in the dataset, but I don't know which dataset. I assume you mean the "main" dataset (as opposed to the hidden dataset that gets generated when you mark a field
as a parameter). If this is the case, the only place I could see that would allow you to use such a statement is in the Filter section of the properties. I tried this, and it did not generate any errors, but it also kept my report groups from displaying
-- it just showed a blank report, so I think it probably wasn't bringing back any rows to populate them with.
I also tried going into the Expression section for the SchoolDaysActiveWeek parameter in the second screenshot and placing the statement there. When I did this and ran the report, I would get the following error:
The 'SchoolDaysActiveWeek' parameter is missing a value
So what am I missing!?
Also, thanks for taking the time to respond!!

• XML tag markers moved: Find and Replace causing problem in xml elements

Hi All,
I am doing find and replace using GREP. While using the expression like $1, $2 (Found Items) in the change to field it changes the placement of tag marker. If the found item is a part of two of more xml elements, I am getting a serious problem while replacing it. (ie. The xml tag markers are moved.)
See the screen shot below, then you may get better idea. And help me to overcome this issue.
This is just an example to show you what i'm trying to say, there are so many cases like this.
Original text/ Before doing find replace
After replacing
Green4ever

Hi Peter and John,
but it seems to me that the example is looking for any space that
follows a semi-colon and has two word characters following it, and
repalce that with an em space. I think you could do the same using look
behind and look ahead and not need to replace the found text.
Yes you are right about the look behind and look ahead. I'd like to show some more examples to show what the actual problem is,
Original/Before Replacing,
(Consider there is another case here, instead of em-space some times normal word space will also be there)
Using the Grep:
Find What---------> ^(\d+\.(?:\d+)?)~m
Change To------------->$1\t
After Replace:
Did I make any sense? Eventhough this will not make any changes in the layout, my requirement is to insert the tab out-side the tag marker not indise.

• How can I add text to a field based on XML tagging?

I'm fairly new to using XML in InDesign layouts, and I'm currently facing an issue getting a bunch of content from database records formatted in a print document (text that flows over dozens of pages). I've figured out how to create an InDesign template, but I need to be able to add text between some of the XML elements in two different scenarios:
1. Add text or line breaks before or after an XML element that always appears in the document. For example: Adding "Description:" before the XML-tagged description content, or adding a return after the last element in a list.
2. Add text before or after an XML element only if it appears in the document. For example: If there's a second phone number, tagged "Phone2" in the XML, then I want " or " to appear before it in the layout. Otherwise there's just one phone number and it continues on to the next piece of content.
I have tried inserting this text into the InDesign template, but keeping them means having to also keep parts of the template that aren't used on every import--so I have a bunch of "or Phone2" bits of text to find and replace afterward. That's OK, but I'd like a more elegant solution that doesn't leave potential mistakes in my layout.
In my preliminary research so far, it looks like an XSLT or scripting might be able to handle this, but I don't know where to start. Can someone tell me if what I'm looking for is possible and suggest the best way to do it? I'm going to have to trial-and-error a solution for this myself.
I am using ID CS6 on a Mac. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your reply. The line that you mention is added at the top of the message, and includes the original sender's email. I would like my name to appear, next to each line I add in the text of the original mail.
For example:

The lines that start with "[Joe Smith]" are my replies, to the original items in the original mail.

• Problem trying to wrap a Microsoft Word paragraph in XML tags?!? :/

Hello everyone. I really hope this is not a big problem and that some of your could help. I wrote a Macro in VBA like a year ago that was intented to put a tag before every single paragraph in a document. The logic validates that the paragraph have no other
tag before putting one. All of this is based in styles. Some font styles would end up with different tags. This is my code and it works:

NOW... the issue is that the tags wont work anymore in the new system, and I need to wrap the paragraph in XML Tags. I tried to do something like for styles:
If oPara.Range.Style = "LW" Then

InStr(1, oPara.Range.Text, "
") = 0 And _

oPara.Range.InsertAfter "
"
oPara.Range.InsertBefore "
"
End If
End If
But it just would add the two tags before the paragraphs!!! Is there anyway to wrap the paragraph in XML tags, following my logic? Somebody help please!! Thank you!! :/

• How can i find and replace xml tags?

Hi, i am using xml in my workflow and want to be able to remove certain tags if they contain particular text.
here is an example of my xml structure…

<tel>DEFAULT</tel>

DEFAULT

I am using this initial structure to set the paragraph styles to be followed when the xml data is imported.
This leaves DEFAULT in place wherever an entry doesn't have any content for that field.
I want to be able to import my XML then run a script that removes any tags that include DEFAULT, - I need the entire xml tag to be removed not just the text, if i do a normal find and replace it will only remove the text not the tags which is causing problems with styling. I also want to remove the end of para/return (^p) that i've placed at the end of the line. So it would be the same as opening up story editor and removing the content + tags + hard return in there, but i want to automate the process…
So i think this is what i need to search for in each case
"
^p"
and i want to replace it with nothing ""
Can this be done through scripting (ideally javascript)?
I have a little knowledge of javascript but am not sure how to search and target that kind of string in indesign...
using indesign cs5
many thanks

Hi,
Script should do it in two steps:
1. find all occurences of i.e. ">DEFAULT<"
2. remove whole paragraph which is a found_text's container.
For example this way -JS - (a textFrame filled with your text should be selected) :
var mStory = app.selection[0].parentStory;
app.findTextPreferences =  null;
app.findTextPreferences.findWhat = ">DEFAULT<";
var myF = mStory.findText();
var count = myF.length;
while (count--)
myF[count].paragraphs[0].remove();

• Invoking a process to return a SQL query as XML results in empty XML tag (but testing the SQL works)

I have a process that runs a SQL query and returns the results as XML. When I test the query in the Process Properties tab in Workbench it appears to execute just fine. I can also test the XML information and see that the results are coming back correctly. But when I invoke the process I get an emtpy XML tag with no results. Recording the invocation and playing back the recording doesn't tell me anything useful. Has anyone ever seen this issue before? I don't understand why everything within the process seems to bring back results just fine but invoking it returns nothing.

Unfortunately I am not the admin for our LiveCycle instance and do not have access to the server logs (long story). I also am not authorized to share any LCA files for this project. Thanks though.

• Text Box issue - displays XML tag instead of the value in EBS

I need to use a textbox (or a autoshape with text) to place a data element in a specific position on the page in an RTF template. I tried using tables and it didn't help. This layout needs some elements to be placed at specific location and using an autoshape or a text box is easy. When I preview the pdf output on my desktop, it works fine. Once I upload the template into EBS XML Publisher, the value in the text box shows up as an XML Tag instead of the value in that tag. The same XML data when loaded and previewed locally shows the data instead of the tag.
Any thoughts on this? Is there a patch or something we might need for this in EBS?
Thanks,
Vinay

Thanks Tim for the quick response.
Yes - the versions are same. Also, I tried giving the complete path. The issue is that it is not even reading the text in the text box as an XML tag. It seems to think the whole text box is an object and hence just display that text as is. If it was reading and not able to resolve it, I guess it would have displayed blank (and not the tag as is). Again as I mentioned it works fine in local preview on my machine.

• Add XML Tag to XML File (Idoc to XML File)

Hi there.
Just a question regarding the addition of a tag header in an XML file please?
Idoc - > XI -> file (XML File)
We have a need to add something like this below in bold to XML Tag Header in the inbound file:

<?POSTEN SND="SE03220037090" SNDKVAL="1" REC="SE03220669500"

Any ideas on how this can be managed would be apreciated please?
Thank you.
Mick.

Hi Carlos.
Thanks for your reply. I like what you are suggesting, however, I have no knowledge of Java and how to implement this Java addition to the mapping interface.
I would appreciate any hints you may have. The value that I am trying to add to the tag header is exactly as it is below(the value in bold) and it can in fact be fixed, i.e. I am not looking to dynamically determine the values in the additional tag but just add the value as it is below...

<?POSTEN SND="SE03220037090" SNDKVAL="1" REC="SE03220669500"
MSGTYPE="ORDERS"?>
I would appreciate any input from you on that.
Thanks in advance Carlos.

• Rename an XML tag using javascript

Dear adobe experts,
I have a requirement to rename XML tags, in the interface for an adobe form, using javascript.
the XML looks like this:
<ELEMENT>
<DATA>
<ROW_IID>0</ROW_IID>
<PARENT>0</PARENT>
<CHILD>0</CHILD>
</DATA>
<DATA>
<ROW_IID>1</ROW_IID>
<PARENT>0</PARENT>
<CHILD>0</CHILD>
</DATA>
</ELEMENT>
and the result should look something like this:
<ELEMENT>
<CHAIR>
<ROW_IID>0</ROW_IID>
<PARENT>0</PARENT>
<CHILD>0</CHILD>
</CHAIR>

<ROW_IID>0</ROW_IID>
<PARENT>0</PARENT>
<CHILD>0</CHILD>

</ELEMENT>
Is this possible and how can I do this? I was hoping that something like renameNode() (for instance) is also possible in the javascript set for adobe forms.
If it's not possible I'm going to have to create new nodes, put the data from the existing node in the new node and remove the original node. This will be a lot more work and just renaming is easier :-).
Kind regards,
Niels

Hi,
Thanks a lot Jeff...
I'm doing a huge program with lot of tasks. While doing that,my mind didn't strike to check if the tag is not already exist, then only to create new tag... Thanks for all of the indesigner experts for their replies...
I used the following codes with ur idea.
var renamewith = textbox1.text;
try
alert(app.activeDocument.xmlTags.item(renamewith).name);
if(app.activeDocument.xmlTags.item(renamewith).name)
var testTag = app.activeDocument.xmlTags.item(renamewith);
catch(e)

• Using REGEXP_REPLACE to remove XML data from between XML tags

Hello there,
I am trying to use the REGEXP_REPLACE SQL function on a piece of XML, to remove the actual XML data from the elements. My end goal is to end up with a comma-delimited list of XML element names. As part of the first step, I just want to rip out all the actual data.
I tested the following query, and it initially appeared to work:
SELECT REGEXP_REPLACE('>THIS IS A TEST<',
'>([[:alnum:]]\s|\S)*<',
'><' ) AS test_result

SELECT REGEXP_REPLACE('<ROW><TEST_ELEMENT1>123</TEST_ELEMENT1><TEST_ELEMENT2>THIS IS A TEST!</TEST_ELEMENT2></ROW>',
'>([[:alnum:]]\s|\S)*<',
'><') AS test_result
FROM dual;I ended up with the following output:

If you're reading this and you're a Posix RegExp Guru, please could you let me know exactly where I'm going wrong? RegExps are not my strong point, but I'd like to get better at them.

Just out of interest, how would you go about writing the XQuery function so that it returns the actual XML Element values in comma-delimited form (This is Oracle Canonical XML, so has a very basic layout)? ;)Do you mean like this ?
SQL> SELECT xmlquery(
2    'for $i in $d/ROWSET/ROW

• Remove XML tags in the File Adapter

Hi,
I have a JDBC to File interface. However, there is a requirement to remove some of the XML tags from XML produced by the File Adapter.
For example,

<ns0:MT_XML xmlns:ns0="namespace">
<XMLIntegration>
<Prices COLUMNS="Index, Date, Price">
<Index>Fuel</Index>
<Date>2007-05-01 00:00:00.0</Date>
<Price>0</Price>
</Prices>
<Prices COLUMNS="Index, Date, Price"/>
</XMLIntegration>
</ns0:MT_XML>
needs to be changed to
<XMLIntegration>
<Prices COLUMNS="Index, Date, Price">
Fuel, 2007-05-01 00:00:00.0, 120.65
</Prices>
</XMLIntegration>
Does anyone know how to do this? I'm using the File Content Conversion Message Protocol but I'm not having much success

hi,
you just need to have this:
<XMLIntegration>
<Prices COLUMNS="Index, Date, Price">
Fuel, 2007-05-01 00:00:00.0, 120.65
</Prices>
</XMLIntegration>
as your target message in your mapping
and map all values to Prices tag
you don't need no content conversion - just the mapping

• Canonical XML

hi all,
iam working on AGILE to SAP scenario.
from agile iam getting AXML file which is in ZIP format. iam using one file adapter module to unzip into XML and procesing the data. the XML is normal XML, but my client want that XML should be canonical XML.
can any one tell me how to convert into canonical XML instead of normal XML.
Regards,
Madhav

Hi Madhav,
The canonical form of an XML document is physical representation of the document produced by the method described in this specification. The changes are summarized in the following list:
1. The document is encoded in UTF-8
2. Line breaks normalized to #xA on input, before parsing
3. Attribute values are normalized, as if by a validating processor
4. Character and parsed entity references are replaced
5. CDATA sections are replaced with their character content
6. The XML declaration and document type declaration (DTD) are removed
7. Empty elements are converted to start-end tag pairs
8. Whitespace outside of the document element and within start and end tags is normalized
9. All whitespace in character content is retained (excluding characters removed during line feed normalization)
10. Attribute value delimiters are set to quotation marks (double quotes)
11. Special characters in attribute values and character content are replaced by character references
12. Superfluous namespace declarations are removed from each element
13. Default attributes are added to each element
14. Lexicographic order is imposed on the namespace declarations and attributes of each element
The term canonical XML refers to XML that is in canonical form. The XML canonicalization method is the algorithm defined by this specification that generates the canonical form of a given XML document or document subset. The term XML canonicalization refers to the process of applying the XML canonicalization method to an XML document or document subset.

• Embedding inline HTML data in XML using the mx:XML tag with < and >

What is best practice for embedding HTML within the
<mx:XML> tag? Programmatically, I can implement this
successfully:
[Bindable]
public var xmlDP:XML = <component data="<" />;
However, I get the following error if I try to store the same
data inline in an mx:XML tag, as such:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="<" />
</mx:XML>
Error #1095: XML parser failure: Unterminated attribute.
If I change the MXML tag as follows, it works fine:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="&lt;" />
</mx:XML>
Unfortunately, I also can not source the mx:XML tag to an XML
file which uses < or > codes, as it yields the same
results. This leads me to believe that the <mx:XML> tag does
not support the special character codes for < and >, but why?
Incidentally, this code also gives a 1095 error:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="<" />
</mx:XML>
This is causing an issue with my source data as it is not
hand typed into Flex, and standard XML supports the < and
> codes. I have tried a full HTML string, as shown below,
but this also generates the error:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="<b>Test</b>"
/>
</mx:XML>
Many thanks for any input you may have!

I’m generating the XML source file with
Microsoft’s XML Notepad 2007. It will encode invalid special
characters automatically. My understanding is that this is the
proper way to handle the less than symbol in a XML string, that is
to say using the < code.
With respect to the escape and un-escape methods, I am able
to successfully implement these in AS, but not in MXML. This makes
sense considering they are AS methods, but I was hoping to be able
to do something like:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="escape('<');" />
</mx:XML>
This gives the following compilation error:
The value of attribute "data" must not contain the '<'
character.
As does using the escape character as such:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="\<" />
</mx:XML>
Below is an example of what the escape character may be used
for in AS:
var myString:String = "\"";
trace(myString);
// result: "
Likewise, I can escape the < character as such:
var myString:String = escape("<");
trace(myString);
// result: %3C
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data="%3C" />
</mx:XML>
trace(un-escape(xmlDP.@data));
// result: <
As you can see, using %3C and unescaping in AS will yield the
correct result; however, this is not a practical method of
representing the data in MXML as I would have to write an AS method
to un-escape the XML string anyway, so I might as well just store
the data in AS to begin with. I was hoping for a way to source an
mx:XML object, without having to load it into ActionScript
manually. Here’s an example of the functionality I would
expect:
<mx:XML id="xmlDP">
<component data=">" />
</mx:XML>
trace(xmlDP.@data);
// result: >
Only this does not work for the less than symbol. I’m
assuming at this point that this is a bug in the Flex compiler.
Thanks again for your help troubleshooting this one!
