Canon ZR40 not working w/imovie

Hi. I just upgraded to ilife '08 and now my Canon ZR40 camcorder is not being picked up by imovie. Any advice?? Thanks.

Same issue here. I've got a ZR40, a very lightly used Apple-brand firewire cable, a year old macbook, leopard and iLife '08. No dice. This camera and cable worked well for me on a G4 tower, running panther, and iMovie 2/3.
I'll be quite surprised and disappointed if newer hardware and software has broken compatibility with a standard firewire DV camera. I'm on hold with apple phone support now; I'll update the message with what they tell me.

  • The 'share' feature is not working in iMovie...?

The 'share' button does absolutely nothing. I went through the same upgrade on my daughters Mac (Mavericks etc), and it works perfectly well on hers. Does this mean I should re-install iMovie? If so, how on earth to do I unravell the mystery of achieving that?

I have the same problem. The 'share' feature is not working in iMovie...?
I deleted iMovie from the Applications folder and emptied the Trash. But the App Store still shows iMovie as "Installed" so it won't reinstall. What else should I try?
Why has Apple not issued a fix for the "Share" bug? It means that iMovie 10.0 is unusable. Little by little the quality of Apple products is sliding downhill.

  • Microphone not working on imovie HD

    Hey,
I'm doing a stop motion animation, but my internal microphone has seemed to stop working on my imovie. It has worked before because I only wanted certain sections of a song to be playing whilst the film was going, but now it doesn't seem to want to work, I have rebooted, and downloaded the software again (because i originally had imovie '08) but it still isn't working!
If I cant solve that dilemma does anyone know how to cut songs on imovie, is it even possible? So only say 30 seconds of the song is actually playing
    Thanks!

    Hi
If You have a clip with a song. Cutting the clip will also cut the audio.
Extracting audio makes an audio copy on one of the audio tracks and mutes the audio on the clip.
This extracted audio can be cut in the same way as a video clip [cmd-T] and at Playhead.
If the microphon stops working I would start with:
    • Under Apple left top on menu - down to system prefs - sound/audio - cheque on audio in that
microphone is selected and that level is increased so that it indicates You testing it.
    • If still not working - delete iMovie pref file - or - rather start a new user/acount, log into this and re-try.

  • IDVD is not working in IMOVIE

Hi, Couple of months ago I had to reinstall my Imac OS X 10.5 since then my iMovie's IDVD option is not working. I thought if I upgrade the OS and iLife it would solve the problem. Recently I upgrade my OS to 10.6.3 and Ilife to iLife 11. Even after I upgraded my IDVD option is not working on the iMovie. I can write dvd's using the regular IDVD program. But it's not working on the iMovie. Can any one help me out with this. I tried everything. Why the IDVD option on IDVD wouldn't work on my Imac.

I need to write the project to dvd directly using iDVD option in iMovie. That's what I can't do.
Some of us have found that Share to iDVD produces inferior quality DVDs than when exporting using Share to Media Browser (check posts by rrodby). At least, that was the case in iMovie '09 - not sure about iMovie '11. In iDVD, simply drag the exported movie into the Theme background from the Media>Movies tab.
The exported movie can also be used for other purposes, such as copying to a flash drive or external drive for viewing on a media player. The movie is located in the project's package contents. In Finder, right-click (or Control-click) on the project name and select "Show Package Contents". In the Movies folder you will see your exported movie. If you use Share to iDVD, you don't have independent access to your exported move.

  • Canon UFRII not working with IR C5180

Sadly I spent hours on this issue at a client yesterday with no resolution.
Not using UFR but just the Canon PPD I can print fine from all stations (both 10.5 and 10.6). The client needs to be sending department ID's along with the print jobs for accounting purposes and so I began my (not)love affair with UFRII.
    1) The IR C 5180 is listed as a supported model and I can can add (LPD, per Canon's instructions as well as suggestions here) the printer without issue.
    2) From both the print queue dialog (via System Prefs) and the print dialog from various applications I've confirmed successful bidirectional communication with the printer.
    3) I can send a print job with a department code but then UFR immediately pops up an error saying something like "Cannot communicate with the printer..." obviously leading to no job showing up at the printer.
    4) I can load the web interface for the C5180 but I don't admin the printer so I'm not going to make changes there as i don't know who I might hurt in the process. (I'm there to help 4-5 Mac users in an otherwise Windows environment.)
I've reset the printing system, restarted the computer, attempted this on two different computers and also followed suggestions found here for manually removing some files after attempting an uninstall before reinstalling UFR. I'm sure I tried more than that yesterday but suffice it to say I did a lot of troubleshooting all of which boils down to the four points above.
I opted for trying the UFR because that seems to be the way Canon intends for this to be working. Unfortunately at some point in the past this all worked fine and my digging up of old machines at the client seems to show that it was working using a PS driver. The latest version of this I see on the C5180 download page is 1.81 from February of 2008.
The client needs this working ASAP so my question is do I keep banging my head against UFR or simply try to recreate the goodness of the past using a PS driver from over two years ago? Any input/insight is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately you may need to keep banging your head with the UFR2 driver. The current PS drivers (the v2.11 'CUPS' and v1.81) do not work on Snow. And according to my Canon contact the PS driver for SL is not due till the middle of May.
With reference to Point 2, can you confirm that you are able to open the UFR II Printmonitor and get information about the iRC5180 configuration. If this is working okay then it does confirm you have a bidirectional path to the printer and would suggest that the printing problem lies elsewhere.
If the above is working, then the machine firmware could be the fault. To use the v2.06 UFR2 driver, you need the firmware to be relatively recent. The latest system version for the iRC5180 series is v92.06. If the machine is running a system that is considerably older, such as v80 or earlier, then a Canon tech should be called to update the machine. The firmware version can be found by opening the iRC5180 web page and select Device then Device Information. The entry Controller Version will list three numbers separated by full stops. The first number is the main board firmware version.
If the firmware is later than v80, then would you be able to post back here the cups error log information pertaining to one of the failed print jobs for the UFR2 driver? I would like to look at what the log says before the 'Cannot communicate' message appears.

  • ISight not working in iMovie only

Today I encountered an issue with my isight camera in imovie. Yesterday I was able to record with it just fine, but now when I click on the 'capture' button in the import window and then select an event location, the capture video screen freezes (though the cursor still works and iMovie still responds otherwise). The isight still works in Photo Booth. I've searched around but haven't been able to find this problem discussed previously. I restarted my computer and closed all other apps besides imovie. Any ideas?

    F.Grimes wrote:
Uh, yeah that was my fault. I was looking in the HD folder (my 'home' folder has a different name and i overlooked it).
    (1) All is well if the reason your home folder has a different name is as explained in this link:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8767.html
    (2) If you are using FileVault, turn it off or see http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27532
    (3) If you renamed your "home" folder (not a good thing in OS X), see this link:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428
Anyway, I found the correct plist file and trashed it, but unfortunately the problem persists when I reopen iMovie. The isight import video window freezes when I click capture and I can't see what is recording even though the light is on. Is it looking like the reset is the next option?
    (4) You can try the reset(s) any time you like. Unless your problem is solved otherwise, you should try all the relevant iSight Troubleshooting suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight does not operate correctly in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, your built-in iSight still does not work, and if it does not show as a USB device in your Mac's System Profiler, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
    (5) Your posted System Info shows that you are still using Mac OS X (10.6.1). Unless you have already used the Mac OS X 10.6.3 Combo Update, and regardless of whether you perform the reset(s), you should consider updating your Mac OS using the folloowing method:
     • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions.
     • Download and install the 10.6.3 Combo Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017
     • Repair permissions again immediately after the restart that completes the update.
    Then test iMovie again.
Proper application of Combo Updates can sometimes correct a wide variety of problems, and it is so reliable that the Combo Update is now the ONLY way I update Mac OS X.

  • Ducking not working in imovie

Hi... running the lastest version of imovie.  All up to date.
Ducking does not work when selecting on a video clip.  i.e. I want the background music to fade and keep audio on clip up.
I have tried with several different songs, close and restarted imovie, restarted computer.  Nothing works.  I have no transitions or voice overs.  Just a clip with a song in background.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

OMG... I'm an idiot.  I was moving the ducking slider the wrong way
    LOL.
Hope this helps somone else who is having a brain ****.

  • Viewer Not Working In iMovie 9

My iMovie 9 program has developed a number of problems since attempting to test drive iMovie 10.
In iMovie 9 now, when I move the curser to either the Project Library pane or the Event Library pane and hover over photos or movie clips, the Viewer remains black.  Previously, hovering over photos and clips would produce a representation of those photos and clips in the Viewer.  The photos were Aperture jpegs dragged into iMovie from the Finder, while the clips were QuickTime movies brought in using the Import command.
This problem exists for older Projects, as well as newly created Projects.
Strangely, the Viewer does show internally created items such as titles and maps.  And, both Project movies and Event clips will actually play in the Viewer if I click on them and press the space bar.
Not sure if two other issues are related, but 1) iMovie 9 now takes 5-10 minutes to open;  and 2) Attempting to create a QuickTIme movie of a Project using the Share command *always* produces the error: "Sharing Requires More Memory To Be Available. Quit iMovie and Relaunch It" .
*Question: Might I need to adjust any of the menu settings to correct this issue?  Special thanks to GeeD for patience and help with my previous iMovie question.

Thanks again for the help.  I did not find an iMovie LSSharedFileList in Preferences, though it existed several days ago.  I deleted it, along with an iMovieApp.plist. and a plist.lockfile, while trying to repair iMovie earlier.  Should iMovie be regenerating this file, in other words, does the absence of LSSharedFileList and plist.lockfile suggest a problem?
I also logged in to my computer as a Guest, and opened iMovie 9.  Although there were no Events or Projects, I did a few quick operations, and it worked perfectly (none of the problems I see while running as Admin).  Were you suggesting the Guest trial to see if there was a problem with access privileges?
Finally, I discovered two other files associated with iMovie 9:
    com.Apple.iMovieApp folder,   in
    /private/var/folders/49/wq/C/com.apple.iMovieApp
    com.apple.iMovieApp.savedState   in
    /Users/name/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.iMovieApp.savedState
Do these two files regenerate like the .plist files in Preferences?  Might these might be causing any problems, or could they need to be repaired in some way?

  • Panasonic Camcorder not working in iMovie 11

Hi. I bought a new Panasonic X900M Camcorder which is supposed to work in iMovie 11. When I connect the camcorder to my iMac (OSX10.7.5), iPhoto pops up for some reason and then the rolling ball shows. I do a force quit. I would have thought that iMovie 11 would automatically open. I have to manually open iMovie up but when I try to import anything, it too shows the rolling ball. When I connect the camcorder, a file opens up on the desktop but inside it are just a few video clips and photos. Most of my video work doesn't even show. And I can't drag and drop the few that are there, to iMovie.
Any thoughts about this? I have used the old iMovie HD for years and found it very easy to use with my old DV camcorder. This new camcorder and new iMovie has me wondering.
    Thanks!
    Richard

iMovie can import 30P and 30i and 60i from this camcorder. If the camcorder shoots 60P AVCHD, iMovie cannot import the 60P clips. Also, iMovie will not know how to handle 3D clips.
You can use Final Cut Pro X, which can import 60P. You can also get a third party converter like ClipWrap or Voltaic to process the 60P clips into an h.264 MOV format that iMovie can handle.
Going forwade, set your camcorder to 30P for best results. If you shoot a lot of slow motion, then it may be worth investing in Final Cut Pro, ClipWrap, or Voltaic.

  • Canon Selphys not working with Gutenprint

Is there anybody who can confirm that a Canon Selphy (any model) printer (sublimation) is really working with Guteprint drivers (comes with Snow Leopard)? Because there is reports everywhere that they are not working:

Mine is not working with Gutenprint either. I have Canon Selphy CP-740. I downloaded even the newest gutenprint drivers (5.2.4) but no.
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
I have the exact same symptoms as in the first three post in the first thread above: The driver reports that it's 100% ready, but nothing happens. With the updated 5.2.4 it takes the paper inside the printer and then stops there!
Of course I got it working with the original (old) Canon drivers from Canon's homepage, like some other people on those threads. But the Canon driver is not nearly as good, because there is so darn few adjustments. Gutenprint would have been much better.
So - Is there any Sephys out there actually working with Snow Leopard's Gutenprint drivers?

    Hi ANinnovation!

Are you actually seeing a noticeable difference in the fonts after conversion? While there are some difference between those fonts, they are very subtle differences and in all likelihood will not really change the look of the document.

  • Help!  iSight Not Working with iMovie!

I can't seem to use my iSight camera with iMovie. ?? The camera works with PhotoBooth, but with iMovie not even the "Record with iSight" button appears. I'm using iMovie 5 on an IMac G5 with a built-in iSight camera. Any suggestions on getting iSight to record to iMovie??

    You're welcome, -John
If you are following the directions in this Apple article
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2329.html,
    your iSight should be working.
If you have added any hardware or software since iMovie worked correctly for you, first rule out any Possible conflicts with your iSight.
If your problem is ONLY with iMovie, try this:
    • Quit iMovie if it is open.
    • Delete your iMovie preferences file:
     Finder > Go > Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iMovie.plist
    • If they exist, also delete any other "com.apple.iMovie" files that end in ".plist" in this folder, or example, "com.apple.iMovie2.plist" and / or "com.apple.iMovie3.plist".
    • Close those folders and launch iMovie again to check for proper functioning.
    • When you get iMovie working again after tossing your old .plist files, you will need to reset all preferences that you want to be different from the default values.
If you cannot make your iSight does not work in any app or in any User Account, you will need the help of an Apple Service Provider Technician to repair your iSight.
If only iMovie gives you trouble, even after dumping the iMovie preferences, I suggest you reinstall the iMovie application.

  • Canon LBP2900i not working

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to Macbook Pro. I tried the advice given in the communities, such as downloading the CAPT driver as well as replacing the CAPT folder as advised. Unfortunately my Macbook is only able to detect the printer but not to print. It either says failed tp read the module or error 9782.
I realise that my OS X is version 10.6.8 instead of previous version, does it matter or have I missed anything in the steps?
    Please advise. Thanks.

I hear ya. I've got a two month old color laser Canon LBP7200CN here in Japan and it has not worked since Apple updated to OS 10.6.8. I've tried several of the "fixes" found on the internet, no dice.  I also called Canon tech support and all they could do was apologize. Argh. Apple recently put out  a printer driver update for Canon but this did no good either. I'm very frustrated with the lack of support from both companies.

  • Epson and Canon printers not working with 10.7.5

Anyone know if there is a fix for Epson and Canon printers for 10.7.5? Did Apple intentionally switch off printer drivers to force us to upgrade to Mountain Lion? I called Epson technical support and they mentioned it's a well-known issue and they said to "wait for an Apple update". I doubt that will fix the issue. My Canon printer stopped working for months already and there is still no fix.

    Hey there zoneinfinite!
I have an article here that can help you find and manually install the most updated printer drivers for your specific printers:
