Canon Zr830/ Zr 850

Do either of these have the analog pass thru feature for old video tapes to be converted? I looked at canon.com and didnt see it.
-Heather

Heather,
From camcorderinfo.com, the Zr850 does have AV input for recording from TV to the miniDV tape. The Zr 830 has AV output only, so no recording from TV to tape at all. I can find no mention of the AV - DV passthrough that allows you to convert old tapes without recording on the DV tape first, so I assume that neither model has this feature.
Check out the reviews here: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Canon-ZR850-Camcorder-Review/Audio--Playbac k--Connectivity.htm
The reviewer likes the layout of the Zr850 much better than that of my Elura 100, but it lacks a few other features, such as the external mic jack. The still photo size of the Zr850 is the same as that of the Elura 100.

  • Best current ideas for wireless AIO printer for MBP? Prefer not HP or Canon(my MX 850's bad match)*

Would appreciate best current ideas for wireless AIO printer to pair with MBP (bought late 2011). Prefer not HP or Canon.  Got my MX 850 to print -- with lots of work -- but would not scan.  Tried to fix that, now won't print or scan. Time to move forward, leaving Canon along with Dell notebook in recycle bin.  Thanks for any suggestions.

  • New Clips at Every Scene Break

whenever i upload video from my DV video camera, the whole video comes out in one clip. i set the preference to make it make new clips at each scene break but it still doesnt work. i was wondering if maybe i need to update imovie by getting ilife or something.
    thank you

So it would seem no one has a real solid answer as to why this happens? Not trying to be argumentative, but I meet all of your aforementioned 'requirements' for scene clipping and it still doesn't work for me. BACKGROUND: The first experience(s) I had with iMHD6 was with my friend's Sony camcorder (it's gone now so model no. unknown), and I made movies/DVD's, from their DV camera, for them. Yada yada...my point being is that I clicked 'Import' in iMovie and the scenes were all automatically clipped on their Sony. Fast-forward a few months later (no pun intended) and they replaced their Sony with a Canon ZR830 (DV tape-based camcorder). Now, both the Sony & Canon cameras are mid-range and nothing fancy. The Canon camera (the date/time and time zone were all set correctly) imports all 56 minutes of the tape in one chunk; no scene splitting! This stinks for me cuz I have to go through and manually cut the segments up. So my Q is...is there anything else I can check in the camera to see if this can be remedied? Can you guys confirm that scene-splitting is simply just time/date based i.e. there is a gap greater than 30 seconds between two frames? Because that doesn't seem to be the case here when the Canon camera's time/date are set properly. Is it possible that this camera is NOT time-stamping the video? I'm thinking this might be my problem. Thoughts?
PS. I hope this makes sense...I've been working all day and my brain is dead, blah...trying to drink coffee to wake up.

  • Is Lightroom appropriate for scanned negatives and pictures

What little I have read about Lightroom assumes pictures taken with a digital camera. I have two digital cameras (Nikon D70 and Canon Elf IS 850) which give me reason to try Lightroom, and it has been recommended to me by a big-time photography acquaintance. Photoshop CS3 is what I am using.
I have hundreds (more likely thousands) of pictures I have scanned from old negatives and old prints (don't be surprised, as I am old and retired). My oldest photograph is an 1882 print of my grandfather milking a cow with my mother's comment in her scrapbook: "Dad can milk a cow!" Not surprising, as his parents had a farm, though my mother knew him as the owner of a small town hotel. I've a negative from about 1912 which I successfully scanned.
I have black and whites copied from my mother's scrapbook pictures, black and whites from black and white negatives of my children's youth, and color negatives from when color became affordable.
I think you get the picture.
The question again: Will Lightroom be helpful with these old pictures, be they from prints or negatives?
Your input will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I'm using Lightroom for processing and cataloging scans of both old slides and even older prints, and find it very convenient to use. Firstly the develop capabilities are pretty good for adjusting white balance and tone curve either on individual images or batch processing (e.g. correcting a magenta cast or skylight haze on a whole box of slides in one go). My slide scanner does a decent job of auto cropping the slides though I imagine LR would be good for this if not, however I do have to manually crop and straighten scans of prints from my flatbed scanner, and the lightroom UI seems to me to be good for that also.
I have also converted my initial 16 bit uncompressed TIFFs from the scanners to DNG, saving a fair amount of space (~30%). Some would argue this is totally unnecessary as you could compress the TIFFs instead, but I find the conversion to DNG within LR very easy to carry out, and I also find it gives better (lossless) compression especially on the somewhat grainy 16 bit scans. Once I'm happy with all the color and tone curve adjustments I'll probably produce 8 bit LZW Tiffs to archive and maybe discard the still huge 16 bit DNGs (depending on the cost of storage at that time).
I think Lightroom is also very good for the task due to the integrated nature of the DAM and Develop tools - it doesn't force you into a fixed sequence of working (such as having to do developing before cataloging and other metadata operations or vice versa).
EDIT: I just realized you're referring to Negatives, not slides, so you might find the Develop tools a bit harder to use as LR isn't optimized for handling non-camera images especially negatives, though as someone else noted there are some work-arounds for handling negative conversion. However once you manage to produce positives somehow, I'd definitely recommend LR for further work.

  • Exporting video comes out square?

I've been making some pretty basic scratch footage with my Canon PowerShot SD-850 IS's video mode (30px, 640x480). My timeline is set to DV-NTSC. When I export from FCE as a quicktime movie, however, my video is squashed into a completely square resolution (I'm assuming 480x480.) Any idea why this is happening? (I've tried messing with the export settings in quicktime conversion, and the same issue keeps happening.)

Hi, wish I had the answer, but I am having similar problems. I have mixed source files in my time line (960x540 and 720x524) and although this worked for the first movie I made, it now squishes the width when I export. I think I am hoping for similar information -- how to manage this so no squishing takes place.

  • Which MiniDV tapes should I use?

    Hi everybody,
This may be kind of a dumb question but here goes...
I just bought a Canon ZR830 MiniDV Camcorder through
    Amazon.
Is it okay to use Panasonic MiniDV Tapes with a
Canon camcorder? (that's what Amazon tried to upsell me).
    Any help is mucho appreciated!
    Mike

    Thanks, Matt =)
I figured as much but I had major problems trying to get my first camcorder (a SONY DCR-HC30) to work with iMovie so I just wanted to get all my little ducks in a row and facing the right direction before I started another project.
    Thanks again!

  • Upgrading to High Def

    Upgrading to High Definition
I am currently using PE4, Windows XP Pro
I have been using a Canon ZR830 NTSC
I have been happy with my Videos until I bought a new 46 inch HDTV.  Now I notice that the definition of my videos leaves a lot to be desired.  I plan to get a HD camera soon but in the meantime I can borrow one to use.  I know that I must upgrade my software.
I have a great bluray player.  I do not have a bluray burner.
    My questions are as follows:
    Should I get PE 7 or 8
    Can I open a PE4 project in PE7 or PE8
If I do a project with HD media and then burn to a SD DVD, how much better will that be than a project with SD media?
When I get a bluray burner, is the procedure still to burn the project to a folder and then burn those files onto the disk?
Any recommendations on a bluray burner?  Cameras?
    Thanks for your help.
    Cliff

    Cliff,
    Welcome to the forum.
I'll take a crack at a couple of your questions.
    Can I open a PE4 project in PE7 or PE8
Usually. There can be issues with 3rd party Effects and Transitions, and also with things like Themes, or Instant Movies. Now, you cannot go the other direction, so I would do a Save_As, using a different name, so that you do NOT over-write your PrE 4 Project, once you "convert" it to PrE 7, or 8.
If I do a project with HD media and then burn to a SD DVD, how much better will that be than a project with SD media?
This can be touchy, though some have had good luck. Many feel that Adobe does not do that good a job of converting HD material to SD. Now, one can burn HD to a DVD-Video, with a much reduced Duration (much less room on a DVD-5, or DVE-9, than on a BD). If you do downsample from HD to SD, you will not likely notice much increase is quality. This ARTICLE addresses converting HD to SD, but it is very heavily oriented towards Adobe PrPro CS4, and not PrE.
When I get a bluray burner, is the procedure still to burn the project to a folder and then burn those files onto the disk?
Right now, PrE does not allow Burn to Folder for BD Projects, but only to BD. Should an update for PrE 8 be offered, I do not know if this function will be added.
I'll let some of the HD experts comment on these, plus your other questions.
You might also want to post to the Muvipix "Community" (their fora), as a lot of folk there do HD and many also use PrE. You'll see some of the same posters, both here and there, but there are many on Muvipix, who do not post to this forum.
    Good luck,

  • View complete EXIF?

I have been unable to find a way to view complete EXIF info.
I would like something like Irfanview's Info command. Press I and then click on either EXIF or IPTC and get a simple but complete window of data.
LR's Metadata pane is pretty but neither simple or complete.
When I want to see this info, I don't mind using screen space with a pop up.
It would also be great to have more fields available for view in the Loupe View. Why only 3X2? Let me choose if I want more info vs a clean view.

  • Canon MX 850 "Print job manager failed"

After recently upgrading to Snow Leopard (0S 10.6.8) my Canon MX 850 Wireless Printer has quit working.  After every attempt to print I get the message:
    Error: System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed
I really need to get this fixed.  Please help!

  • IPhoto & Image Capture don't detect Canon Ixus 850 IS in one identity

So, bear with me on this one, it's a long saga:
Canon Ixus 850is doesn't appear as a device to have photos imported from one identity on my iMac, but does work on others.
Symptom: Plug in the camera and it doesn't "switch" into computer mode (preview screen goes blank, card reader light flashing. It does this in another identity on the same computer. System profiler shows it connected to the USB port. Image capture -> Browse Devices shows the camera, but it's not "connected".
    Things I've Tried:
    PRAM reset
    Permission repair multiple times
Removing all the user's start up items
clicking "connect" in Image Capture -> Browse Devices (nothing happens)
    new USB cable
different camera -> I take this to mean it's not the camera's problem, but the mac. Another canon isus (different model) has the same problem.
    iPhoto library rebuild
    Removing image capture preference files
    Multiple restarts
All software is up to date (OSX 10.5.7 & iPhoto 8.0.3)
    Reinstalling canon software
I'm at a total loss. Any ideas (except for using a memory card reader
    Thanks!

  • Oops; shd have posted here to begin with: question about canon pixma 850

can my macbook and my printer be connected via ethernet, rather than via usb? if so, what am i doing wrong? i have the computer and the printer hooked up and nothing's happening. i'm not an esp. sophisticated computer user, so i need pretty basic instructions.
    powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.5.5)

    Hello Nancy,
There is three major steps required for using the MX850 as a network printer from your Mac.
First of all, there is two pieces of software you will need to install on the Mac, the Canon driver v7.1.1 and the IJ Network Tool v2.6.5. These should have been included with the printer but can also be downloaded from a Canon web site.
With the driver and the tool installed, the second step is to set the network address settings in the printer so that the Mac can communicate with it. This has to be performed with the printer connected via USB to the Mac.
With the printer driver installed and connected via USB, the printer should be listed in the Printers list of System Preferences > Print & Fax. If it is shown, click it once to select it and then click the Open Print Queue button. From the MX850 printer queue you can click the Utility icon. This will open another utility showing the MX850 connected via USB. Select the MX850 and click the Network Settings tab. The new window will guide you through setting the network address for the MX850.
This is where you will need to know a few details about your network. If the printer is connecting to a hub or router, and this device can supply IP addresses to connected devices, such as your Mac, then you can set the MX850 to DHCP and the network device will allocate an address for the printer.
If you have no hub or router and want to connect the Mac directly to the printer via Ethernet, then you will have to manually set an IP address and subnet mask in the Mac and so the same in the MX850. Rather than spend too much time explaining this now, if this is how you want to connect the MX850 to the Mac then please reply stating so.
With the IP address settings configured in the MX850, the last step is to add the network printer. You can close the Canon utility, turn off the printer and disconnect the USB cable. Now connect the Ethernet cable and turn the printer back on. Give it a minute or two to acquire its network settings and then open Print & Fax on the Mac. Now you need to Add another printer queue, this time for the networked MX850. Click + to add, and then select More Printers then Canon IJ Network from the top menu. The new window that appears should display the MX850 with a series of numbers and letters in brackets. Select this in the list and click Add. This will add the printer to your printers list. Now you can try printing to the MX850, making sure you select the network queue (the one with the numbers and letters in brackets) and not the USB queue, which probably just shows MX850.
Hope this basic enough for you.

  • Can't scan with snow leopard and canon pixma 850

I think I downloaded the newest driver but though I can print wirelessly I con't see my scanner utility so I can't scan. Ideas?

The inability to scan is caused by a limitation with the Airport device. The USB port of the AirPort Base Station and Time Capsule does not support printer utilities or other special features, such as scanning, that requires a direct proprietary connection.

  • I just got a used Canon ZR850 and I'm having trouble downloading my video onto my Windows 7 computer

I just got a used Canon ZR850 and I'm having trouble downloading my video onto my Windows 7 computer. I have a FireWire that works fine with my ZR830 but not with the 850.  The connection isn't registering.  What can I do?

Without proper system information and other details nobody can help you. and this error means what it says - some other install process is still active, even if it may not do so visible. Could be a silent update of a virus scanner or something, could be a botched install of another program, not even specifically Adobe. As a start, always reboot your computer and then try again. For anything else we need much more info.

  • B2B Error while generating 850 EDI Document

    Hi All,
We are facing the following error in B2B while generating an EDI 850 outbound document.
To give a brief background of our process:
We are using a BPEL process to pick a fixed length file from FTP adapter and then transform it and provide it to B2B for converting it into an EDI 850 Purchase Order. The BPEL part of the Process is working fine and it is successfully transforming the fixed length file into intermediate XML that it gives to B2B engine.
In B2B, the ECS file that we use has been generated from an XSD and we upload the corresponding ECS and XSD in B2B during configuration.
But we get the following error when B2B converts it into EDI 850 format.
    Error Brief :
5084: XEngine error - Invalid data.
I am also giving around 100 lines from the b2b log before this error occurred.

If anybody has faced a similar issue, then please post on how to overcome this error.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Dibya

    Hi,
I am facing a similar problem.
I am trying to transfer a xml in 850 format with internal properties of Interchange,Group and Transaction from BPEL to B2B.My BPEL setup consist of :
A partnerlink which read xml in 850 format using file adapter.
A receive Activity which receive the data.
I have created a partnerlink which use AQ Adapter to enqueue data in IP_OUT_QUEUE.
A invoke Activity invokes this partnerlink.
Then I have assigned the read data in Receive to input variable of Invoke activity.
I have used another Assign Activity to populate the Header; and passed this header in Invoke Activity.
In B2B I have created two trading partner one remote and one host, defined a business action and defined the Communication capability for them. I am using FTP1.0 . I defined a agreement and deployed the configuration in b2b server.
The ecs and xsd I am using is the one provided with Purchase order tutorial, it contains only ST-SE,I have also tried with envelope segments for 4010-namely
ISA-->GS-GE-->IEA.When I am turning off validation and translation its throwing the input XML as output in the .dat file. If I turn on Translation I am getting unrecognized data last known segment is GSA.In this case the input XML had internal properties of Interchange and Group. If I remove the transaction part from ST-SE the dat file is generated in native dat format but with ISA -GS-GE -IEA but no transaction portion.
As a work around I tried seperate group ecs, interchange ecs and transaction ecs and tried to pass a 850 xml with only transaction fields.
I have tried with no ecs file at all and in that case the dat file is also generated. So does this mean that B2B have seeded ecs file which it use as default if I dont use any ecs file?
It seems from the post you have successfully completed this part can u send me :
1>The 850 ecs and xsd file you used.
2>If you have used any group ecs and interchange ecs.
3>The input you are sending in BPEL.
4>The BPEL process and B2B export xml you are using in zipped format.
    My mail ID: [email protected]
    phone:09831964607
I tried out different ways suggested in the post but nothing seem to be working for me,I am still getting the invalid data error and if it is creating the dat file only envelope segments are created.
If you send me the working example I can work on it as baseline, this will be of great help in my work.
