Canopus DV Wont Monitor only single frames

Hi,
I have a canopus dvc110 on my final cut 5.1.4 and I'm trying to monitor the footage but it will only show the first frame when I hit play. If I pause, it will update where the playhead stops and will play if I scrub with the mouse or arrow keys but it won't play real time?
Is it a QUICKTIME Issue? If so, how can I revert QT from 7.15 to an older version?
Is it a hardware issue?
I have G5 dual 2.5 Power PC
8 GB DDR SDRAM
Final Cut 5.1.4
QT 7.1.5
MAC OS 10.4.9
Please help. I've been trouble shooting this for 2 days now.

FCP Monitor only freeze-frame

I am trying to monitor my FCP work on an external monitor. Here is the hookup:
MacPro -firewire - Panasonic tape deck (AG-DV100P) - S video - JVC broadcast monitor (TM-H150CG)
I believe I have all the settings right and there is a nice picture on the monitor, BUT - while there is normal motion on the FCP canvas the monitor only has a freeze frame. It will show whatever frame the timeline stops on but will not show the motion of the clip.
Does anyone have a suggestion?

Hi,
Sounds like you are trying to monitor HD video. You need a capture/ playback card (Blackmagic etc) to do this.

Merging layers in PSE video timeline saves only single frames

Folks-
Video retouchers beware, here's another little gotcha to watch for. First, a little explanation of usage:
Occasionally while retouching a video shot I'll come across a really bad still image of a few seconds duration, which needs a lot of touchup. In cases like this, rather than frame-by-frame work, I will copy the entire image and paste it to a new layer, trimming it to cover the duration of the original still. (I can regrain the shot in my favorite NLE later, if needed, to get that subtle swimming grain which is part of Film Look.)
Pasting creates a new layer above the video, which is perfect and expected. I use menu commands to trim it to length, I do my touchup in this layer and it holds for the entire duration of the shot.
Until I merge all the layers above video.
These layers can add up and increase memory requirements, so I thought it would be a good idea to merge the layers as I often do for stills work.
When I examine the merge layer for areas covered by repaired stills, I see only the original blemished shot-- and then blip! Somewhere in there-- one single repaired frame!
In too many ways, Photoshop Extended still thinks in terms of only stills-- even though it allows layer trim tools and in other respects seems to acknowledge its video cousin.
This is an unfinished if promising product for sure. And again, NO DOCS.

Try right clicking (in windows 7) on the layer you want to merge, or the top layer, and click 'merge down'. This will merge it into the layer under it, but won't create the bug. At least, it worked for me.

Problem Previewing HD Project on NTSC Monitor - Only Still Frames...

Hello all.
I have a calibrated NTSC That i purchased for accurate monitoring of my projects.
I thought I tested on a HD project, but for some reason, now that I'm working on a major project it's not working properly.
When I'm editing, it will display still frames but not video. Before anyone suggests it, i have triple checked that the External monitor setting in the view menu is on All Frames.
Any suggestions?

But it won't for HD. For HD you need an HD capture card and HD monitor.
If you are working with DVCPRO HD from a Varicam or HVX, then you can monitor to an HD monitor routing thru an AJ-HD1200 or 1400...or if you have a capture card with analoge outs like the Kona 2 then you can monitor on an SD monitor.
You cannot monitor HD with the same setup you use for SD. Sorry.

Single Frame Displays on External Monitor

I have been searching online for the past three hours, trying to find a solution to this. I have found threads describing similar problems, however, I have done everything suggested in those threads, and nothing seems to work. I am at my wit's end.
The problem: When I attempt to play my sequence in my timeline, while connected to an external monitor, then audio plays, but only a single frame shows on the monitor. It updates to the most current frame whenever playback stops, but it only shows a static image. Meanwhile, the canvas window in Final Cut Pro displays nothing.
Things I Have Tried:
I have selected "All Frames" under View > External Video.
I have Refreshed A/V Devices.
I have made certain that the Canvas display size is small. Currently, it is at 50%, and I have also tried setting it to Fit To Window.
I have gone to Easy Setup, and selected NTSC, DV-NTSC.
I have checked "Mirror On Desktop" under Audio/Video Settings > A/V Devices > Playback Devices.
I have also tried unchecking "Mirror on Desktop."
I have set Video Playback to Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480).
I have set the Sequence Preset to DV NTSC 48 Khz.
I have set the Device Control Preset to Firewire NTSC.
I have exited Final Cut Pro, made sure the deck was on first, then turned on Final Cut Pro.
I have restarted the computer.
Further Notes: I've noticed that the problem might have something to do with how sequences are displayed. If I double-click on one of my video files in the Final Cut Browser, and open it in the Viewer window, it plays fine, even displays fine in the external monitor (my deck). Furthermore, if I open different Final Cut Projects that worked fine previously, they now have the same issue. So I would assume it is not a problem with the sequence in this current project I am working on.
Any help you could give would be appreciated more than I can express.

Have you set the sequence you're trying to play to DV-NTSC? It sounds to me like you're trying to play a sequence that is not a stock DV sequence through a DV device.
Try creating a new DV-NTSC sequence, copying all the clips from your current sequence, and pasting them into the new sequence.

External Video - No longer plays video...? Only shows single frames

Hey all - thanks for stopping by! I am hoping for help as soon as possible!
So I've been doing fine on my project up until I did the FCS 2008-03 update today... ugh (I know I shouldn't have).
I use 2 monitors; one for my timeline, etc. the other for full screen playback. It's worked swimmingly for the past month. Now, it will only play a single frame back - wherever my playhead is, generally. But takes a second to refresh.
I have external video set to "all frames" and have refreshed the external devices, restarted, reverted to QT 7.5, etc.
What can I do to get back to where it was working?
A black magic card is installed but I'm not capturing anything right now. Will that still affect it?

CUTTING SO YOU ONLY SEE THE TROUBLESHOOTING THINGS
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section.

Mouse over HTML link causes single frame to display at top of page Netscape only

Having a wierd problem. When you run the mouse over HTML
links on the page a single frame of the flash movie apears at the
top center of the page. It only happens in netscape in firefox
mode. IE, Opera, and Firefox do not have the problem.

The problem goes away if i modify my .css file by removing
the
border: 1px solid #999999;
line from the "a:hover" style.
I ran my css file thru the validator at w3c and its fine. The
Page also validates as xhtml transitional.
and just a note the same file version is on my public server
and my testing server.
Has anyone ever seen this before?? I have several sites with
a:hover effects and flass media and have never run across this
before.

Video playback on external monitor only producing still frame

I am trying to use a HD TV as a playback device as managed to get it to work, however it has now stopped working and only produces a still frame. When I hit play it will play fine in the timeline but display only a still frame on the second monitor. I have made sure that the settings under video playback are set to full screen and that mirroring is turned off.
Even when I play back on Main the image on the main monitor only displays a still frame until the second monitor is unplugged.
Am I missing something?

How is the TV connected?
If via firewire and an analog/DV converter, are you feeding the HDTV something other than a DV signal? If so, it won't work.

When I put in a scroll in fcx, I get a single frame of the scroll flashing on the screen about a second or two before the scroll appears. There is nothing on the timeline and this only appears after I have made the quicktime or dvd. Any thoughts?

Videos now single frame with audio only

My 30g video Ipod's videos now show up under music. When I try to watch them they are just a single frame and I get the audio. The videos are fine when viewed with Itunes. How do I get my videos back to normal videos???

correction: it works fine on my ipod when I have the "TV out" setting set to "off", but I'm only getting audio on my TV when I have the setting "TV out" set to "on." It has worked fine in the past.

AE only doing single frame render

Hi, I have been using After Effects extensively for about a year now with no problems. I currently have two separate projects I am working on simutaneously. When I tried to prerender the AE files from one of my projects last night, nothing appeared to happen for a long while, then it eventually rendered a single-frame .avi video file. I shut down the computer for the night and tried again today, still doing the same thing.
I tried rendering AE files from the other project, and it works fine. Could this be a setting? I don't recall doing anything different that would cause such a strange setting, it seems to have just started in the middle of a project. Please help.
Oh, and yes, I do have the entire time-line selected.

Selected where?
You may have chosen a single frame render setting. Your output module or render may e set to work area nad you have somehow set a beginning and ending that spas only one frame.

Converting a single frame swf to a gif

I have a couple of really cool animated 'shockwave flash
movie windows projector' images that i would love to convert into
animated gif's so that I can edit them to work in a theme I'm
designing for my sony ericsson w580i. I was finally able to convert
the exe files into swf's... but that didn't really do me any
good... same issue. Also upon further scrutiny I discovered that
both animated file types have only 1 frame! What should I do?!

I've experienced the same thing sometime long in the past,
and I probably did a frame by frame Print Screen to get around it.
If it's single frame swf, then that's probably all you're going to
get is one frame as an output.
You may be able to incorporate a jpeg encoder of some sort to
take snapshots as the piece animates in some form of loop fashion,
but I'm not savvy in that dept.

What's the simplest way to export a single frame from an animated gif as gif?

i have an animated gif and wish to save a single frame as a non-animated gif.
in the past i've been achieving this by deleting all the frames i don't wish to export and deleting them before exerting, this seems very clumsy though so i figure there's a more sensible solution in there somewhere, but where?

Thanks, Bill! Actually version 9 looks a little clearer than that, as it has two bold clear white paddles to mark the edge of the work area.
I was a little frustrated at first, because whatever I did, it still took a year and exported the entire video.
Then:
I caught sight of this teeny tiny box waiting for a tick from me, which said:

Single frame goes ungraded in middle of clip

Hi!
I'm having a curious case of a single frame (well a few, actually - however not one-after-the-other) that goes back to it's ungraded state in the middle of a graded clip.

EDIT:
Just realized this seems to happen on a few clip which I've earlier got the error: "Frame index is out of range" - so I've changed the reel timebase from "Deafault" to "Frame indices" to make the shot appear in the monitor.
- still, I have no clue why this is happening and what to do about it, so any suggestions are welcomed

Internal speakers....I'm out of the warranty period. I think I've identified the root of the problem...seems to be with clips whose audio is of a low sample rate...I rexported the clips from Mpeg Streamclip at 44.1 and it's ok now...unless that was a coincidence.

Project Captures as 1 Blank Single Frame

I am trying to do a software demonstration and every time I
end it, there is only 1 single frame that is blank. I have tried
changing resoltuion and turning off hardware acceleration and it
hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Well I found the problem but not the reason why... I moved a group 1 frame to the left (seemingly unrelated to the layer with the glitch) and it works... When I move the whole group to the right, it makes the footage disappear until the other group appears...
Confusing?
