Canoscan hook-up problems

I dont know if this is the right category, but hopefully someone will find me :P Im trying to get a Canoscan scanner working with my macbook pro, and after hours of frustration, have had no luck so far. It's an older model, an N67OU. I went to the Canon website and tried installing a mac driver for it, but after it's downloaded from the site and i try to install it on my computer, it always just opens with Photoshop, which doesnt recognize the file type or w.e...The computer does recognize that the scanner is hooked up, but just will not do the scanning for me :P help?

According to the download page for N670U drivers, the Mac OS X driver for that scanner supports only PowerPC Macs, and only up to OS X 10.4.x. There is no Canon driver for it that you can use on your computer.
Hamrick Software's VueScan is a professional-quality scanner driver that supports the N670U on Intel Macs running Snow Leopard:

  • Macbook HDMI cord TV sound hook up problem

I just bought a 2 cords to hook up my Macbook Pro to my TV. I went to best buy and they told me that the mini display port to HDMI adapter by rocket fish linked with they DYNEX High Speed HDMI cable cord should allow me to view my computer on my TV with audio. I went online and searched how to set it all up. I was able to get my computer screen to show on my TV but when i go to the sound in system preferences and go to output there is no option for the tv. How could i get my computer to recognize my Samsung HD TV and get audio to the TV instead of coming out of my computer? This is what is showing up in my sound system preferences

If you connect the 5,5 MacBook Pro using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter you will need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo sound system if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini DisplayPort on the MacBook Pro doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with the HDMI input plug since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.
Here's the various types of Mini DisplayPort adapters on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=min i-dvi&x=9&y=13#/ref=nb_sb_ss_sc_2_16?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=mini+ displayport&sprefix=mini+displayport&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amini+displayport

  • Solved Vista Home Premium Start up / shut down loop

Ta Da    The  C:\windows\winsxs      ETC.       that was my solution  found it on this site and other sites and decided to try it:
It was actually the 3rd choice of solutions on that particular page  and  I could not complete the solution as directed because the files I was supposed to delete were not there, funnily enough that is why I chose that solution as I really did not believe it was an update error but may provide me with a    "Look Inside" .  So I followed along and it would not let me delete the file as instructed but it let me rename it   I did rename 1 file and rebooted. Everything proceeded as normal but it actually finished loading the NVidia driver for onboard graphics  ( which was where it was crashing ) and that was it.
I still dont know for sure why it would not load the driver and  I never did get any blue screens or failed update messages or error codes. On the upside I now have a working repair disk that I didnt have before, and created a backup that I didnt do before
I have an HP Pavilion  m 7580n   ( Media Center) that is locked in a start up shut down loop.
It starts normally and runs up normally until the desktop flashes on the screen for about 3 seconds. At this point It is still loading things like the Internet connection , Icon indicates connected, nvidia control panel icon. It never gets any further than that.....?
if I am  fast enough to dbl click an icon it will load whatever the icon represents but will immediately flash to the "Shutting down" screen. It then shuts down and auto starts the loop again.
I have  also tried   ctrl / alt / del   and I get there but it crashes instantly.
The machine is now running   Vista Home Premium.  Upgraded from XP by an online download so I have no OEM disk.
I dont know if it is 32 or 64 bit I would guess 32 as it was an XP upgrade
What I have tried so far
I have ruled out ANY Hardware problems by swapping hard drives and loading a different OS.   Win 7 on it and everything works fine for hours.  Benchmarks, stress tests, temp tests, games, mem tests
I have made a vista repair disk and tried all of the "Non Destructive" options  available.
I have tried every safe mode option.
I have hooked the problem hard drive to another computer and accessed it that way, and ran virus scanners
and clean and repair programs. No Bad sectors, clusters, nothing bad
I have removed all "Junk" and files I can replace
I have striped all unnecessary hardware. swapped RAM, Vid Cards  ETC.
I have tried all of the above both connected and not connected to the Internet and everything many times and many differant combinations.
Nothing has made any difference at all
A little history of the machine.
It was bought second hand with the Vista Installed and came with a paper  sticker with a hologram
and a Key That was apparently mailed after the online update ?
It was activated and displayed windows genuine logo in System Folder
It received updates automatically and by request no problems.
I mention this only because I cannot be absolute certain it is a legal copy and was wondering if this is some sort of disabling of pirated software or an expired demo?
It was used in a cottage  where it could possibly of had a power failure during an auto update. I mention this as some update problems resemble my problem. I have shied away from trying those fixes as they involve elevated commands and such and my knowledge in that area is very limited. and I dont have any of the stages loading screens
It would be easy for me to format and reload an OS But the files I want are protected and I cant access them from another computer.
I havent Listed any Hardware as I am satisfied it is not a hardware issue  However it is the  AMD X 2 64 version
Any Non hardware related suggestions would be appreciated as I am certain this hardware all works
I get no BSOD's no errors.
     Thanks for reading my lament

Do this, and while it is in the open re-examine your cpu pins w/ a bight light and hd zoom or a magnifying glass.
Thanks, xmad, I'll look at th CPU again tomorrow/next day under the glass when I take the board out.  I already checked them under magnification and was leaning toward a funky board, but it never hurts to re-check.  Eyesight is not what it used to be, for sure (I miss DOS, if that's a clue...).  Don't want to flash the BIOS if not necessary, since it runs Windows fine and everything works except that RAM.
Bernhard, I don't have CPU-Z installed on that machine and don't want to install anything else until it's working normally.  I'd never seen Click-Bios before and just need to get over my initial suspicion of something new!  Also learn my way around it before I change anything.  I'd never encountered a board reporting a bios different than printed on it.  I've never messed with manual memory settings or done more overclocking than just a little exploratory and suprisingly successful nudge - if you could point me toward a  good basic explaination of all those settings, I could learn from there.
    Appreciate your input very much.
Have learned a lot just reading the threads here for the last few days.  This is the best forum I've ever encountered.  I'll report back - some suggestions in other posts resembling my problem ended with no resolution, and that's a shame because one doesn't know if it worked or not.

  • Hidden Thumbnail Cache Dialog

Well, while still trying to find a solution to the music always on problem in slideshows, I came across a dialog that has extensive information about iPhoto current thumbnail caches. Its all hooked up, problem is, I dont know how to invoke it (probably not supposed to), or can I find a way to put it in a menu or attach a keyboard function to it..
The race is on !! Find out how to show the hidden, very informative Thumbnail cache Stats dialog !!

In that case, I suspect the issue is with the caches on your hard drive. You could have a look in /user/Library/caches for iMovie files.
    Thanks nik,
But there isn't any cache file in there.
Or you could download Onyx (free utility) and get it to clear all your caches, the disk utility to overwrite free space, then check again.
There are other ways to clear caches, but Onyx is simple and it works
Tried that before too. Didn't work.

  • Annoying 3G connections

    Hi,
I am using an iPhone 4 16GB using the iOS 4.1 (8B117) version
Everyday, I would always message, check my mails and use the Internet on the 3G Vodafone Network
However, the problem is very annoying, everyday when I send dozens of messages, or use the Internet for hours, the 3G would stop responsing with the "Could not activate cellular network" dialog every time
I always have to turn off the 3G in the General settings and turn it back on, to keep the connection working
Before you answer, I have replaced my iPhone 4 which is brand new again, I have replaced the micro-sim card THREE times already and the problem still submerges!
I have done dozens of restores and reset network settings, still it never ceases to keep doing it
I noticed that when I got it in it's original version (iOS 4.0.1), the modem version was older (1.90) and the Vodafone version was 7.0 (compared to the new iOS 4.1, it is 2.10 and version 8.0) but it was working brilliantly well, no disconnecting and no freezing or pausing the message on sending bar, it did work effectively and it was until I updated the iPhone 4 to 4.1 that bought the problem up
I wanted to know, is there any way of downgrading it back? I am tired of replacing them all and I have contacted Support a hundred times, it would be an issue with the new update that is ruining the connectivity on my iPhone 4
    What do you think?

No they will not, just got mine(3Gs OS 4.1) back from the shop (germany D1), they said iPhone was within Apple specs and checked out fine, with the OS 4.1, I set the new profile, etc., etc. some problems to include that the batteries run down after a day or so because the phone keeps looking for the 3G connection. Turned everything off and it seems to be holding a charge. No E or 3G possible without battery run down and hook-up problems. Seems we will have to await the update to get our phone working properly again, by the way my my 3G OS3.X worked just fine!!!!!!! Hope that the folks with the new 4s are doing better but it seems that not, and problem seems worldwide in all nets....
Come on Steve "git er done".

  • Video brightness problems with mini hooked up to TV

I have a Late 2012 Mac mini that I use as a media hub in my living room. It's hooked up via HDMI to a Pioneer amp and then the display is piped to a Samsung TV. When watching content purchased through the iTMS in full-screen mode, the brightness changes every few seconds from what looks to be "normal" to fairly dark and muddy. The content is watchable, but the constant change in brightness does get annoying. If I watch the content inside the iTunes window, I don't get the strobing; it's only when watching the video Full Screen. I've looked through the settings on the amp and the TV but haven't found one that affects the problem I'm seeing. Has anyone else seen something like this? Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot it?

    Hi.
It seems that I finally have found a solution to this problem. It is not perfect, but at least it stops the screen from changing the brightness randomly when watching movies from my mac mini.
The solution is to go into settings, accessability and turn on switch control. I hide the switch control as much as possible in one of the corners down to the left or right corner and makes it as small as possible. It seems it must be active on order to stop the screen from flickering, so I can live with that.
As I said, it is not perfect because a small corner of the switch control will be visible while watching movies, but it is better than the flickering.
If anyone has another or better solution to this problem I´m all ears:)
Have a flicker free afternoon all who have had this problem on mac´s or other iOS devices.

  • Encoding problem in call-back to hook URL (post parameters)

    Hello all,
I'm encountering a character encoding problem while retrieving the content of the shopping basket from one of our provider.
After the POST request is made by the provider to our system using the hook url, when debbuging I can see that some special characters are represented with the sign '#' (after the call the ITS_IMPORT_CONTEXT).
In our case using the parameter http_content_charset with various values, including UTF-8, did not change the result.
Inspecting the HTTP traffic has highlighted the following: the encoding received from the provider is related to UTF-8, but while we are expecting the hexadecimal values, we are receiving the "Unicode code points", which are not recognized by our SAP system. For more details look at the UTF-8 encoding table found here and compare the values under column "Unicode code point" with the one under column "UTF-8 (hex.)".
As an example, for the character 'é', we are receiving the value "%E9" (the code point) instead of receiving the the hexa value : "%C3%A9".
Do you have any idee if this can be corrected on our side or if the provider must addapt the way it's sending the POST parameters?
Many thanks in advance for you help.
    Best regards,
    Jerome.

    Hi Jason,
Indeed I had contacted the provider and informed them about the encoding problem and the fact that passing the parameter http_content_charset had no effect on the sent back encoding.
They have taken into account my request and have changed the encoding used during the request to the HOOK_URL.
Thanks to all of your for your help.
    Regards,
    Jerome.

  • Hooking up external synth. monitoring problem. HELP!!!

so...i had been using garageband without a problem. i am having a problem with logic. i want to record the sounds off my alesis micron. i have 1/4 inch cables running through a tascam us 122. that is hooked up to my macbook pro via usb cable (just trying to be specific here as to how i have things hooked up and my settings). computer input is the us-122, the output is the headphones built in output (instead of the output on t he tascam).
heres what i have been trying:
i have the driver on the tascam within logic. clicked on an audio track...enable recording. when i play my keyboard i can see that its picking up a signal...but i can't hear anything. even when playing one of the tutorial tracks that come with logic i cannot hear anything. so i experiment...i record, play my synth a little (even though i can't hear it) and stop. it records the waveform. when i try to play back, i can't hear it. when i switch the driver to direct line...only then can i hear what i records (i cannot hear my synth when the driver is set to direct line, no signal comes through obviously). my initial thought was that there is a monitor play thru button somewhere like garage band. the software monitoring was clicked the whole time. i have no idea what i'm doing wrong. can anyone help me?
sorry for being longwinded here but im trying to give as much information as possible.

With no offense intended: your questions seem to indicate confusion on an extremely basic level that's probably quite beyond the scope of this forum.
It sounds like you need an introduction to basic MIDI, and the differences between MIDI and audio.
    http://www.tweakheadz.com/howto_get_started_withmidi.html
Basically, MIDI is the equivalent of sheet music - it tells the performing instrument which note(s) to play at what time. What the actual audio generated sounds like is of no concern to MIDI - that depends on the instrument used.
The audio is the equivalent of a CD recording of the sheet music being performed. It's a completely different medium, as it were.
Where it gets confusing is in devices that do both, such as the Kaoss pad: you can use it as a MIDI controller to influence the parameters of the synthesizer, AND you can use it to mangle the audio that comes out of the synthesizer (or anywhere else).
You're going to want to hook the Kaoss pad up via MIDI and audio; the trick is using the Presonus Firebox's mixer/routing application to route the incoming/outgoing audio to your monitor system and into the Kaoss pad at the same time (so as to be able to add FX from the Kaoss pad).
The audio routing will probably be easier to setup for an inexperienced user/better to control with an external mixer, though the Presonus is certainly potent enough to get it all done in software. But how to set that up really depends on what exactly you're looking to be doing.
It's easier to fiddle around with cables and a hardware mixer if you're just learning.

  • Problems hooking up Inspiron 6000 with Router WRT54GS

We have a WRT54GS that has been set up and working wonderfully.  My son just came home from college with his laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000 with wireless card, etc) and I wanted to hook it up also.
I think I'm missing a setting somewhere because, although I've entered the MAC into the router MAC filter list and the laptop shows our network name, I cannot get the laptop to connect.  I get the prompt for our password, enter it, and then it just can't connect.  Any suggestions as to what I've done wrong or what should I be checking?  I've spent far too much time on this today.

It sounds like you have a wired computer connected to the router and that this computer is able to access the Internet without any problems.  Is this correct?   If so, then your basic router setup is complete.  But it also sounds like you have never connected a computer wirelessly to this router.  Is this correct?  Normally, wireless would be turned on by default.  So the only settings that you normally need to change are the wireless security settings.
You mentioned that you were using MAC address filtering.  On the same page where you "Enable"  wireless MAC address filtering, make sure you have marked the option "Permit only PC's listed .....".  Then enter the MAC address of your son's laptop in the "MAC Address Filter List".  Be sure to click on "Save Settings" on both of these pages, and wait for the page to refresh (3 to 60 seconds).
Have you checked to see if your son has the Intel Pro Wireless 2200bg card?  You can check this in "Device Manager", under the heading of "Network Adapters".

  • CCX agent on-hook problem

    I have CCX 5.0.2 with CUCM 6.1.3.
    I find some strange problem.
20% of all calls are disconnected after 1 second.
Client call to CCX, listen IVR and then become connected with agent. And after 1 second call is disconnected. In log I see that reason of disconnect is that agent go on-hook (agent press "endCall" button).
But agents don't press this button. They even don't see incoming call.
I try to change phones, change firmware but nothing help.
    Phones are - 7941G.

Need to take a look the MIVR logs for that call. In the script, does it do call redirect to another trigger number etc? If that's the case, add 2 seconds delay in the script before the Accept step.

  • When I hook my ipod to computer it reads: there is a problem with this drive scan the drivenow and fit it (F) it doesnt work

when I hook up ipod up to to itunes it reads:  IP F  There is a problem with this drive.  scan the drive now and fix it.   When I do this, nothing happens.

    Hello,
I found the same issue. I have an iPod Classic 160 GB (Black) bought in April 2013. I'm using a Windows 8 Laptop bought in August 2014.
This is my account of this problem and why I think customers should just ignore the pop-up, but Apple (and possibly with Microsoft/Windows) should look at the issue.
Recently (approximately from early February 2015), when I connect the iPod to my computer I get a message saying there is a problem with the drive and it needs to be scanned and fixed. In full the message reads:
There's a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it.
This message appears very shortly and then immediately (once the message disappears, is clicked on, or x-d) brings up Windows File Explorer on the drive and its containing visible folders: which tells me nothing (though it can clearly open it and look at the files not locked to iTunes)
Other than this, the iPod seems to connect properly and work fine. iTunes (ver: 12.1.0.71 64bit) seems to find no issue. The iPod runs fine, it syncs properly (all of my music and podcasts). It responds as it always has and works for hours.
I did some troubleshooting: first on the wire, trying all ports and using an alternative, then on my laptop (all usb ports with other connectors and device drivers) and some basic testing of the iPod and iTunes. All of these seemed fine to me, no issue whatsoever other than the message every time I connect the iPod. So I just ignored it for a while.
Anyway, eventually I got curious (and had some more free time to look at it) and let Windows 8 do what it wanted (scan and fix the drive). Clearly the iPod works fine, and I have nothing important on it that isn't on my computer, so at worst Windows will break the software and I'd have to reformat the drive through iTunes (and Restore to Factory Settings) which I feel fine doing. I also took note of all of my settings on the iPod (like EQ, and the way I laid out the menus etc...) so I can redo those from defaults.
Prior to doing this, the iPod was version 2.0.5 (the latest version).
When I set the drive to be scanned, windows told me it identified the problem and would fix it. I don't remember the exact wording, as this message was immediately obscured by a pop-up telling me the drive was in use and software using it should be closed. So I closed iTunes which in turn caused the pop-up and message to disappear.
Windows then said it had succeeded and brought up the File Explorer of the drive again (now with some folders missing). When I loaded iTunes back up, it told me there was a problem with the iPod and it would need to be restored. Ejecting the iPod showed that it seemed to believe it had no content on it.
So I restored the iPod through iTunes, downloading the latest iPod update again and started syncing the iPod. After adding a couple songs, I ejected it and played them - they worked fine, the menus had returned to defaults but I quickly changed them to how I liked and overall the iPod is back to how it was. I've now set it to sync the remaining thousands of songs (and couple hundred podcasts). Edit - by the end of this post, this has finished copying Music, Podcasts, and Playlists. It's back to exactly how it was before.
Annoyingly, this has not removed the pop-up message when I connect the iPod, still the same as before - the most irksome thing being the file window opening every time i connect the iPod, though this is still minor (I just have to remember that this will happen and manually close it each time).
So I'm at a loss on the cause, and am going to return to ignore it. I'd greatly appreciate if Apple could look into this. I'm wondering if it is a recent update to iTunes or to Windows, but I don't trust that I won't be able to undo changes if I myself began looking through them (and I lack the time and expertise to do that effectively). I think there might be that Windows is detecting something in the way that Apple formats their iPod drives that it believes is an issue (even when it isn't). My guess is the way of formatting is unchanged (the iPod hadn't received an update recently to suggest and alteration to this) but maybe the things Windows is looking for may have slightly changed and disagrees with Apple's way of keeping the iPod Drive proprietary to iTunes.
TL,DR: Advice to others (and Ljchicago) searching this topic is to ignore the message for now.
    Thanks,
    Dixavd

  • Canoscan Problem

Re: Canoscan 4400F paired with VueScan 9.0.89.
When I scan graphic documents, a wide, transparent line appears within the scanned document, but this radomly placed line does not appear when photographs are scanned. For example, I have uploaded an image of a map with this posting. This map illustrates a wide vertical line to the left center area of the scanned page. It's important to note that this line "does not" appear on the original paper version of this image.
As such, I don't know why this wide, transparent line appears within various scanned images.
Thanks for any tips on how to eliminate this wide, transparent line during the scanning process.

I found the solution to my problem: the macbook was able to "see" the canoscan 3200f and I was able to successfully scan an image with this combination of software.
Install the most recent version of the canon scangear driver from canon's web site without scanner attached.
    Restart with scanner attached.
    Open Vuescan software and use.
I could not get the 3200f to work using Cannon's toolbox software, maybe if I fiddled around with some more ... but instead I think I'll just buy the Vuescan software and use it.

  • CanoScan LiDE 60 scanner driver problems

I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting software issues on my iMac, but this scanner problem has me absolutely stumped!!! My old Canon CanoScan LiDE 60 scanner stopped working the other day...out of the blue. I have been using the ScanGear software without a hitch, and now every time I open the program, I get a "Failed To Open Driver" message. I figured out that I obviously needed to upgrade my software and drivers. I did some research online and was told I needed to install the new CanoScan software and driver from the Canon website. This scanner model is technically not supported by Snow Leopard, but some people got it to work!! Well...I tried that, followed all instructions correctly, then restarted my Imac and replugged my scanner USB cord. I opened the ScanGear software again, but I still have the missing driver message!! I've been trying several little tricks to get it work, but still nothing. I'm at the point where I need to start from scratch and uninstall everything related to the scanner, but I'm not sure how to do that correctly either, removing all the orphaned data! Can someone please give me a step-by-step process what I need to do?

Guys, thanks for this. I've had similar problems but with your help and others solved both issues for the Toolbox and Driver (OS X10.6.8):
Make sure all previous drivers downloads etc are deleted, inc the DMG files etc and disconnect the scanner.
You can then download the latest Toolbox from the UK site [dated Feb 2011] (it doesn't require you to reboot, for some strange reason??). Then download the latest driver from the Australian site. You have to reboot then.
Everything seems to work fine. No preview as before unfrotunately but goes a treat. Hope that helps guys.
