CanoScan LiDE 600F Negative Scanner

Just got a previously loved Canoscan LiDE 600F, to scan, and print some of these old negatives. I also upgraded to Win 7 Pro 32 bit system. Of course there was no software with the scanner, but got enough downloaded to finally get the flatbed part to work, but can't seem to get the negative scanning part to work. I can actually scan the negative holder.  Can someone maybe point me the right direction to get this negative scanner going? I've already got a job for a wall mural, pending getting this scanner to work.
Thanks

  • CanoScan LiDE 600f - failing to open driver

Can't get new scanner to work, either by buttons or CanoScan Toolbox. I keep getting the same message, "Failed to open driver." I can scan a single page as a TIFF image through Image Capture, so I know the scanner is working.
I'm running Tiger 10.4.8 on a PowerBook G4. I cannot find the scanner in the Printer Utility drop-down menu - might this part of the problem? I previously had an HP multi-function installed, but have searched and removed these files and drivers. I tried reinstalling the CanoScan driver from the CD, and installing the driver directly from the Canon website. I have confirmed the scanner is a Mac supported model, and I'd rather not return it!
Any ideas out there? I'm perplexed! Thanks!

Okay. Downloaded the driver and ran the installer. There is certainly a lot more files that are added compared to my 3200F. I also didn't know that PhotoStudio and OmniPage were installed, which I didn't select as I did a custom install.
The folder CanoScan Toolbox 5.0 is created in Applications > Canon Utilities. A log file is also created showing all the files that are added. Thankfully they are all located within this folder (some are hidden so all you see is the Toolbox application and the readme files) so deleting the Canon Utilities folder will be all that is required. I suggest this is the first thing you do.
Next, there is a .dat file located in ~/Library/Preferences/Canon/ScanGear/CanoScanLiDE 600F. There is nothing else here so it is safe to delete the Canon folder. You should also see CanoScan Toolbox 5.0 in the same Preferences folder. Delete this folder also.
The last thing to delete is the data source file. Open Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources and delete the 600F.ds file.
Restart your Mac and run the installer again. You could choose custom and deselect PhotoStudio and OmniPage, since we didn't delete those applications. Once the installation is complete and you have done the restart the installer forces you to do, open Disk Utility (located in Applications > Utilities) and select Repair Disk Permissions. This should repair any changes the installer has made. Once this is complete close Disk Utility.
Hopefully this should be all you have to do. Without the 600F I cannot check this too much further. If I select Scan in the Toolbox, I get the same failed to open driver error as you are. But I also got an error about the scanner not being present when I first tried to open Toolbox. So, I won't make too many assumptions just yet...
Good luck and let me know how you go.
    Regards,
    Paul

  • How do I get a Canoscan Lide 600f to work?

I installed the latest software from the Canon site:
    1) CanoScan Toolbox utility (5.013), followed by
    2) the ScanGear CS driver (12.13.0)
and restarted the MBP (which is running 10.5.7).
Image Capture recognises the scanner, and shows the image to be scanned - but the scan button remains greyed out. What am I missing here? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

With the overview of the image displayed, you need to select a portion of that image so that the Scan button will become available.
To select a portion of the image, move your mouse to the top left corner of the image. Click the mouse and hold down. Then drag the mouse to the bottom right corner of the image and release the mouse. Now the Scan button will be available to click.

  • How to get Mavericks Printer/Scanner to recognize Canoscan Lide 500F

I have a Canon Canoscan Lide 500 F scanner that worked perfectly with OSX 10.7.5 but Mavericks says it isn't connected?  How do you get Mavericks to recognize USB devices that are connected?  How do I get this scanner working again?

    Hi ..
According to Canon there are no drivers for youur printer/scanner for v10.9 Mavericks compatibility here.
But there is an alternative. You can scan using the pre installed Image Capture app located in your Applications folder.
Connect the scanner to your Mac whether Wi-Fi or USB.
Click the very small black box bottom left side of the Image Capture window.
You'll see this pop up menu:   Connecting this (device) opens:
You can select a default app to scan (Image Capture) and select a folder from the Import To pop up menu on the right to save scanned files to.
If you need help with the Image Capture software, click Help from the Image Capture menu bar.

  • Canoscan LiDE 210 won't work on my macbook pro

Can't get my scanner to work on my macbood pro, OSX 10.8.4.  I've downloaded the driver for the scanner and the MP Navigator EX 5.02.  MPNav won't even open.  LIsts only a few Canon products supported.  EXTREMELY frustrating.

I should have clarified I was referenceing the software as Canoscan LiDE 5.0.1.4 for Mac OS X. It appears to be the most current version.
The scanner is a Canon model CanoScan LiDE 600F. After posting, I found and installed the current scanner driver. Same results with a subsequent scan attempts. The preview displays the full picture, but finished horz. image is clipped at the top and shows part of the sprocket holes at the bottom of the frame.
But after teasing the piece of film into the most extream position against the bottom edge of the holder with a toothpick I was able to trial and error some full frame images with minimal clipping. I suspect it is a software problem. Probably some focusing or alignment algorythm
The film adapter is a 13"X4" device that lays on the larger glass, a cable plugs into a port labled FAU and the device engages two magnetic latches to exactly position the film adapter. The adapter itself has a hinged lid and seems to be disigned for a 35 mm strip of film, not an idividual cut frame. The larger scanner lid is double hindged, so it can close over the film adapter when its mounted on scanner bed.

  • How do you get canoscan lide 110 scanner to display in "file import" menu?

I have several older versions of Photoshop Elements running on various computers.  In ALL of them, if you go to "File>Import" you see "Canoscan LIDE xx".  when you choose it, there is a great scanning application that runs. On a newer computer, i had Photoshop CS5.5 installed.  It only shows WIA under the import menu.  The scanning software there is horrible.  I tried installing the same scanner (lide 110) on an older computer running older photoshop elements and it showed up.  i then installed a older version of the elements software on the new computer.  Again, the scanner showed up.  Not wanting to break licensing agreements, i just downloaded a brand new version of photoshop elements 12 and installed it.  it only shows WIA in the file/import menu and not the scanner. therefore, i dont have the scanning software/application i need.  without it, this version of elements is 100% useless to me.  can someone please help me get my scanner to appear in the "file>import" menu?  Yes, i do have the latest version of software downloaded from canon's website.

    Hi,
I believe that this is where PC & MAC versions differ.
The PC version  will "get from scanner" in the organizer but the MAC version has to "Import from scanner" in the editor. I don't know why they act differently.
It has been posted on this forum (can't find thread at the moment) a fix for the windows version of copying a module from a previous version if you had one. That is not an official fix.
If I find the link I'll post back.

  • Any product like the CanonScan LiDe 600F scanner (doesn't work with Windows8)

I had a CanonScan LiDE 600F that allowed me to enter text right on the scanned picture.  Allowed me to crop, correct red eye, etc.  As I am copying lots of older pictures to do a slide show I would like to continue to show names on the picture so grand children and great grand children will know whom they are looking at.  I can't seem to find a Canon scanner that allows this.
Any help would be appreciated - if no Canon's does anyone know of any others?  I no longer have the 600F as I could not get any drivers or whateve I needed to work with Windows 8 (which I hate).  Doesn't seem to be a scanner forum?

Is this not a W8 driver?

  • Upgrade from Mac OSX 10.4 to 10.5 + Canoscan Lide 30 Scanner + X11

I have just changed from PC to Mac (iBook G4). The iBook is already set up and workiing properly. Some questions for an inexperienced Mac user:
    1. Is it worthwhile changing to OSX 10.5? Will the personal setting be automatically updated or will it led to the inevitable Microsoft crashes?
    2. have downloaded drivers (*.dmg) for canoscan lide 30 and tried to install it. The scanner does not work. Which programmes do I need?
    3. How/where do I get the latest version of the X11 software for OpenOffice? The downloads from the internet cannot be installed because of the new versions of OSX 10.4.
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Kindest reagrds

    1. Which iBook model do you have? You need a minimum of 867 mhz, 512MB of memory,
DVD drive for installation and 9GB of available disk space. Doing an upgrade should preserve your user settings. Is it worthwhile? Only you can answer that. Frankly I would stay with Tiger 10.4.11 with your machine.
    2. You may need to take that up with Canon.
3.Note 10.4 customers can install X11 by using the Tiger DVD installer disk. See here:

  • HT3669 Using/installing scanner Canoscan LIDE 50 with Mac OS 10.8.2

How can I use my canoscan lide 50 with my macbook pro retina (2012), which is running Mac OS 10.8.2?

It would appear that you cannot use this scanner on 10.8. Canon has not produced an ICA or TWAIN scanner driver. 10.8 does not list the LiDE 50 in its CanonIJScanner2 package. And VueScan states that to use it, you must first install the Canon TWAIN scanner driver. But the installer for this model was last written for 10.4 - meaning it requires support for PPC chipset which Apple ceased with 10.7.

  • Upgraded to OS X 10.9 and now cannot connect to Canoscan LIDE 90 Scanner. Cant find a new driver anywhere. Any ideas??

I have upgraded to OS X 10.9 and now I cannot connect to my Canoscan LIDE 90 Scanner. Cant find a new driver anywhere. Any ideas??

Like Dan White, I have found that I can still run the Lide 90 under Mavericks. As Dan says, the buttons on the front of the scanner don't work but I rarely if ever used them.
I have just tested the scanner using Acrobat Pro and it loads up the Scangear software to capture the scan, with no problems at all. I didn't have to reinstall anything as it was all there already and working in Mountain Lion. Photoshop CS 5.1 is different; it does not recognise the scanner, presumably because it can't find a TWAIN driver for it. Image Capture does not recognise the scanner either, but I don't have the latest (10.8) Canon MP Explorer and Explorer Opener software installed.

  • I have a CanoScan Lide 700F scanner ,how do I scan Black and white neg.and turn them into positives?

I am scaning all old pictures, docts,  slides ,but I have alot of b&w negs verious sizes, how can I turn  them into b&w positives??

    Hi Teddy.
The MP Navigator EX software that was bundled with your CanoScan LiDE 700F can be used to scan your black and white negatives.  To use the MP Navigator, please follow these steps:
     1.  Start MP Navigator EX and open the Navigation Mode screen.
     2.  Point to Scan/Import and click Film.
     3.  Place the film on the Platen.
     4.  Click Specify... to set the document size and scanning resolution as required.
     5.  When setting is completed, click OK.
    Important
Film may not be scanned correctly when Film Type in the Scan Settings dialog box is set to Auto. In that case, select the type of film in Film Type and scan again.
    Note
To scan black and white film, it is recommended that you select Black and White Negative Film or Black and White Positive Film for Film Type in the Scan Settings dialog box.
     6.  Click Scan.  Preview scan starts.  When preview scan of the film is completed, the preview image appears.
    Important
If a message for calibration appears, remove the film, then place the Film Adapter Unit over the first frame of the Film Guide and click OK.
     7.  When the calibration is completed, follow the on-screen instructions to load the film into the Film Guide, then click OK.
    Note
Preview image does not appear when the Preview before scanning checkbox is not selected in the Scan Settings dialog box. The scanned images appear directly in the Thumbnail window.
     8.  Select the checkbox of the frame and click Scan.  When scanning is completed, the Scan Complete dialog box opens.
     9.  Select Scan or Exit. To scan another frame, place the Film Adapter Unit over the frame you want to scan, then select Scan. Select Exit to end.
The scanned images appear in the Thumbnail window.
    10.  Edit the scanned images as required.  Use Edit Tools to rotate images, select a part of an image, etc.
    Note
First select images to edit. (Selected images are outlined in orange.) Drag the mouse or use Shift + arrow keys to select multiple images.
    11.  Save the scanned images.

  • Re: Trouble with peripherals (CanoScan LIDE 30 Scanner & HP LaserJet 1020)

The Canon CanoScan LIDE 30 scanner didn't have any autodetection, so I want to the Canon Web site to look for drivers. I grabbed the drivers, packaged in a .dmg file, from Canon. Running the setup file, I was a bit perplexed what it wanted me to do, so I installed the drivers in the Applications directory and rebooted the system when prompted.
That did nothing - I still couldn't access the scanner. I tried a couple other places - root of the hard drive, /Library/Image Capture... nothing.
I'm at a complete loss here, and couldn't figure out how to do it.
    And the printer.
I hooked up the HP LaserJet 1020 to the Mac. Nothing happened, so I went into the Print & Fax System Utility to set it up. The printer browser was able to detect it, but there was no listing for the HP LaserJet 101 in the driver selections. Hewlett Packard doesn't offer Mac drivers for the printer.
Anything I can do to get these two peripherals working?
Feel free to CC responses to [email protected]

The Canon CanoScan LIDE 30 scanner usually installs a file "N124u-buttonmanager" in your Login items (actually the standard install used to put the "buttonmanager" for both the LiDE 20 and LiDE 30 scanners, see this User Tip: kmosx2: Looking for devices matching vendor..).
Their more recent software is better behaved: I have an all in one, and there are no Login items, everything is installed in a "Canon Utilities" folder inside "/Applications".
So, if the software you downloaded includes a "buttonmanager", make sure you choose the right one (see the User Tip) and put it in your login items (System Preferences > Accounts).

  • CanoScan LiDE 700F Scanner not opening up

Whenever I try to scan anything with CanoScan LiDE 700F scanner my computer gives the message "scanner reported an error. An error ocurred while communicating with the scanner." I have to unplug and plug back the USB port and only hten it opens up.  When I try to open the scanner with System Preferences, scanner opens up, but as soon as I hit "scan" the same error message pops up.  I uploaded the latest driver from Canon website, but the problem persists.  I also deleted and re-installed the sanner in system preferences, but it didn't help.
It used to work fine when I initially installed it (on Leopard), but then suddenly this problem arose.

This same error message was first noticed on 10.6. It would only occur after waking the Mac from sleep. Prior to the sleep state you could scan using Image Capture without error. But if the Mac entered a sleep state with the scanner connected, after waking it and then trying to scan, the error message would appear. And as you have found, the quick solution is to unplug the USB cable and then reconnect it.
This problem only occurs with Canon scanners that use USB power. The models that have their own power supply, or the All In One devices with scanner, do not suffer the same fate. Apple Engineering is aware of this and have told me that it is up to Canon to fix.
Note that the same problem does not occur when using Canon's MP Navigator application. This application uses the full TWAIN-based scanner driver, whereas Image Capture and Preview use the ICA driver, and works fine after waking the Mac from a sleep state.

  • CanoScan LiDE 60 scanner driver problems

I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting software issues on my iMac, but this scanner problem has me absolutely stumped!!! My old Canon CanoScan LiDE 60 scanner stopped working the other day...out of the blue. I have been using the ScanGear software without a hitch, and now every time I open the program, I get a "Failed To Open Driver" message. I figured out that I obviously needed to upgrade my software and drivers. I did some research online and was told I needed to install the new CanoScan software and driver from the Canon website. This scanner model is technically not supported by Snow Leopard, but some people got it to work!! Well...I tried that, followed all instructions correctly, then restarted my Imac and replugged my scanner USB cord. I opened the ScanGear software again, but I still have the missing driver message!! I've been trying several little tricks to get it work, but still nothing. I'm at the point where I need to start from scratch and uninstall everything related to the scanner, but I'm not sure how to do that correctly either, removing all the orphaned data! Can someone please give me a step-by-step process what I need to do?

Guys, thanks for this. I've had similar problems but with your help and others solved both issues for the Toolbox and Driver (OS X10.6.8):
Make sure all previous drivers downloads etc are deleted, inc the DMG files etc and disconnect the scanner.
You can then download the latest Toolbox from the UK site [dated Feb 2011] (it doesn't require you to reboot, for some strange reason??). Then download the latest driver from the Australian site. You have to reboot then.
Everything seems to work fine. No preview as before unfrotunately but goes a treat. Hope that helps guys.
