CanoScan N1240U does not connect to MAC OS 10.5.5

I just cannot connect my old scanner (working fine with my old windows system) to my new Mac. It makes me freak out! I need it so urgently and I dont have a PC anymore.
My problems in the following:
Since I cannot open the file format of the the driver from the German Canon Support website (.sit) and it says: stuffit does not support this file I went to the American Canon page, where I was able to download it.
I installed the Canon Toolbox 4.9 in my Applicationsfolder which created an own subfolder.
After downloading the actual driver, I have a disc mount with one SCANGEAR installer file and various subfolders. I am asked to select and install location and no matter what folder I pick it every time says: ERROR, cannot open some shlb-files which are located in these subfolders of my dmg.
I extracted the folders from my dmg to my desktop. It doesnt change a thing.
I now have the toolbox installed but cannot install the actual driver.

I don't know if there's something in OS X that makes it difficult to handle scanners. The Nikon Coolscan V, which I own and use, has been reported as difficult to get working under OS X (though it works for me under 10.5.4).
Have you tried using Vuescan instead? That software supports your scanner (http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#canon) without having to have the ScanGear software installed. Sure, perhaps not what you want but still, it's likely to get the scanner to work. I sometimes use that software with my scanner and it is very good.

Perhaps it helps putting the Toolbox in the Applications folder directly?
Re the .sit files - can you open them with another extraction utility? Or an other version of Stuffit?

    My ipod does not connect with my desktop or itunes (ie when I plug the ipod in using the original USB cable nothing happens--no charging no recognition that it has been connected). My nano does work with the same cable so I know it's not that. I've followed the support instructions resetting, downloading the latest software and restarting. I cannot, however, restore since the first step of the instruction is to connect the ipod and wait for it to show in the source list in itunes. It is also interesting that when I use the car charger the ipod does charge and shows the charging icon.

    I guess i can lend my voice to the conversation. my ipod "locks up" when i connect to my computer also. i just updated itunes and have not been able to connect. there is no ipod folder on my computer when i search through ""finder". i have to "reset" it after i disconnect to continue to play it. i have done everything short of "restoring" due to i have over 3000 songs and i'm unable to back up. the manuel refers to a disk to update. i can only play songs, and recharge. need help to.

    I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work).  "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
    That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon.

    My Mac Air does not automatically connect to desired Wi-Fi network.
    I have already done:
    1- I Checked my TCP/IP settings in the Network ( I did Renew DHCP lease).
    2- I Removed networks from my Preferred Networks list.
    3 - I Removed my stored network passwords.
    4 - Restarted
    5 - Joined again.
    But after... When waking from sleep does not connect..

    Since my upgrade with Yosemite, I seem to be having issues with FaceTime (video/audio) calling iOS Devices. iMessage works just fine with Yosemite. But when i attempt to call the other party via FaceTime, i could hear it ring but cannot connect. Anybody else who has the same issue and does anybody know how to fix it? It would seem to be a Yosemite issue, because when i tried using my iPad and iPhone to call via FaceTime, it works just fine using the same Apple Id i used for the Macbook Pro (Mid 2010). But when I use my Mac to call the iPhone.. It rings but it does not connect.. I hope they fix this with the next update..

    For the ones who are interested: the problem has been "solved".
    Solution: none. I found out that the iPhone 4 from my girlfriend caused the problem. The iPhone made it impossible to FaceTime to each other from iPhone <> MacBook Pro. I think it's because the discontinued iOS support for the iPhone 4.
    Since she has the iPhone 6 FaceTime now works wonderful without any problem.

    Explain that you are using a Mac, anticipate the inevitable groan, and wait patiently for their resident Mac expert to return from vacation.

    Otherwise return the printer and purchase one from a company that visibly supports OS X. HP isn't on that list.

    When I plug in my iPhone, it connects and begins to charge, then asks me to "trust" the computer. When I select "trust", rather than connecting to iTunes, my phone gets disconnected and then it reconnects again and continues to charge but does not connect to iTunes...     There is a free application called iExplorer for Mac that allows you to view and copy files from your iPhone.

    Maybe not too late to help you.
    For specifically fixing the Bluetooth, un-pair your phone with the car, and go through the process of repairing the two.
    In general, the KK update requires many of us (different phones) to perform a Factory Data Reset after we back up our personal content (pictures, music, movies, or other downloaded files) to a PC or MAC. This will result in you having to do a bit of work to setup icons for the programs you use, and maybe putting in the specifics again for email accounts and other specialized apps. So if you are going to do this sort of thing... copy important information/settings down on paper.

  • Macbook Pro 13" (Late 2013) does not connect to Wifi

    Hi,
    I just bought a new macbook pro 3 days back. It was working fine till it suddenly dropped connection to the home WiFi. Since then it shows a list of wifi options including the one that i was connected to but does not connect to it. The error message says that the computer cannot connect to the wifi. and asks me to run diagnostics
    I have done the following
    Run Diagnostic
    Switched the wifi off and on
    Restarted Mac
    Deleted the network from the preferred list and tried to join again
    Tried to manually enter the details of the wifi
    Switched the router and modem off and on again
    Any help would be really appreciated. It's just been 3 days with the mac and I wasn't expecting this.

    Does this connect to other WiFi networks?
    As for the problematic WiFi network, see if  > System Preferences > Network > select the WiFi network in the left column > Assist Me... and see if the Assistant and the Diagnostics options can provide any insight into the connectivity problem.
    Failing that, take the MacBook Pro back into the folks at the Apple Store and have them take a look at it, and see if it'll connect to the WiFi network there.

  • Mail does not connect to mail servers after 10.5.7 update

    Updated Macbook Air with 10.5.7 update. The update went without problems.
    After starting the computer, the Mail program does not connect to the mail servers - IMAP, POP, SMTP.
    Otherwise the internet connection is OK for other programs, connection is through WIFI - Airport Extreme, Time Capsule... In all cases the same problem with Mail - showing the following
    The server error encountered was: The connection to the server “mail.mac.com” on port 993 failed (error 1: Operation not permitted)
    The connection doctor shows
    Mail was able to connect to the internet
    and for all the servers - could not connect, check your connection...
    Did repair of keychain and permissions - no change in status of Mail... any ideas?

  • IMac does not connect to wifi on boot

    I own an iMac and run it with OS X 10.7.5.  Ever since system update 10.7.3 (February 2012) my mac more often than not does not connect to wifi on boot.  I have to select diagnostics and connect manually.  I did a design of experiment and have now discovered that I do not have this problem if I wait about a minute to log in after the login prompt displays.  I like my mac for it's fast startup.  It is a shame to have to wait unecessarily for it to connect to wifi before logging in.  I kenw this was a problem with the system update and this confirms it.  Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening so I don't have to wait?

    It has been a month now and waiting a minute always works for connecting to my airport extreme on boot.  I was cleaning behind my desk and realized that the ethernet cable was still attached to the back of the iMac even though I had moved the airport upstairs.  I disconnected it.  I also opened network preferences.  The wifi was moved a long time ago to the top for priority, but the inactive ethernet and firewire were still listed.  I removed both the ethernet and firewire so the only connection listed is wifi.  My computer has now found the internet on 4 consecutive boots without waiting.  It appears that having the other two options disrupts the connection process on boot.  I will continue checking over the next week and let you know how it goes.  Wish me luck!
