  • Newbie can't go to Oracle XE Home Page today (but accessed it yesterday)

    Hi there,
Yesterday I installed Oracle XE 10g on my PC. I could see the home page and then log into the system.
Today I can't see the homepage anymore:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
    Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
    The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.
    What you can try:
    Diagnose Connection Problems
    More information
This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:
    Internet connectivity has been lost.
    The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.
    For offline users
You can still view subscribed feeds and some recently viewed webpages.
    To view subscribed feeds
Click the Favorites Center button , click Feeds, and then click the feed you want to view.
To view recently visited webpages (might not work on all pages)
Click Tools , and then click Work Offline.
Click the Favorites Center button , click History, and then click the page you want to view.
    I'm using:
    - Windows XP SP2
    - IE 7
    - The homepage address is http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
    - THe oracle services that I've identified in my PC are
    OracleJobSchedulerXE (Disabled)
    OracleMTSRecoveryService (MAnual)
    OracleServiceXE (Started / Automatic)
    OracleXEClrAgent (Manual)
    OracleXETNSListener (Started / Automatic)
I don't have any problems in accessing the internet. Just the Oracle XE pages. I would appreciate if someone gives me some clues of where to investigate and understand what's going on. Any link to a helpful doc is very appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Miguel

Billy, I followed your instructions to the best of my abilities the result is below. I continue not to access Oracle XE Home Page.

  • Updated to the latest revision. Firefox will not display my chosen home page without clicking on home icon.

Since latest update...Firefox will not allow a new page to be opened from a link in a current page. It will allow a new tab to be opened (with tabbed browsing checked) but i prefer a new page. Even in tabbed browsing links to things like a pdf will not work at all.
Firefox WILL NOT close. X-ing out will close the window but I can not get back to Firefox without closing it in task manager.

  • What happened to my Oracle Database Home Page ?

Everything was working fine. Suddenly, the browser can no longer connect to the Database Home Page.
What has happened. My Internet connection still works (I'm here). Nothing else was changed that I can tell.
    Please Help. Thanks.

I believe I solved the problem - although I don't know how it happened.
I went to Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services and noted that the Oracle XE components:
    OracleJobSchedulerXE
    OracleMTSREcoveryService
    OracleServiceXE
    OracleXEClrAgent
    CracleXETNSListener
were all running (except OracleJobSchedulerXE which doesnt offer a restart option).
I stopped the OracleServiceXE and restarted it. I also started the MTSRecovery Service, ClrAgen and TNSListener.
That seems to have solved the problem.
Any idea how the service got turned off?

  • Cant access Oracle XE Home page

I am a new user trying to learn oracle and, having downloaded XE, find I cannot access the Homepage. Help please!

Make sure to start the database, using the program links provided during installation. Then use the link that says: "Go to Database Home Page"
    Earl
Oh, BTW, there is an Oracle XE specific forum you'll probably want to look into. You'll find a registration link was placed in your program links when you did your XE installation.

  • Customise Oracle apps home page

    Hi,
We are using Oracle apps 11.5.10.2, we want to put Company's picture in the front page of Oracle apps, please suggest
    Regards

I followed the above steps and even tried the Metalink Doc and did the following to steps, but still i am not getting the image anywhere. note we are using 11.5.10.2
    1. Change the FNDSSCORP.gif file.
    A. Make a backup copy of the FNDSSCORP.gif file. Name it FNDSSCORP.bak
    B. Make the name of the custom logo FNDSSCORP.gif
    C. Upload the new FNDSSCORP.gif file to the $OA_MEDIA directory
    D. Log out and log back into the application
    2. Leave the FNDSSCORP.gif file alone and upload a new image (test.jpg, for example) $OA_MEDIA directory.
    A. Log into (N) System Administrator > Profile > System
    B. Query the "Corporate Branding Image for Oracle Applications" profile
    C. Type "test.jpg" (following our example image) under the Site column
    D. Save
    E. Log out and log back into the application

Can any one help me to achieve this?I did some investigation on this a while back. Unfortunately those links are user specific. There is no way, using Oracle's functionality, to add a link that is 'global' across a user base. I'm not sure if there is an Oracle API for this but the entries are stored in the ICX_CUSTOM_MENU_ENTRIES table. The only realistic solution I could come up with was scripting the addition of the default links for all your users. You'd also have to develop a job to keep those in sync as well.
    Hope this helps!

  • Java on oracle express 11g  xe- Can it be used for College Database Website

I am a fairly new IT student, I took C programming and I am trying to learn JAVA. I got a job opportunity to work doing some programming using JAVA on an Oracle database, to do part of a school webite, including creating tests online for students that attend the college. However, I have to create a sample to demonstrate knowledge of Oracle and Java, and was allowed two weeks to figure it out.
Can I use Oracle Jdeveloper for the java portion with the Oracle Express 11g xe to create a sample?
THE SAMPLE INCLUDES: Creating a part of an online test for a student that asks 5 questions, where the student fills out the answers along with name and student id number, and also for the test to be scored passed or failed. Also, the test has to store the answers in a place where another user/teacher can have access to the students test answers. Would this work on Oracle Express 11g xe using jdeveloper?
I really dont have any experience or taken any classes on databases.

I don't see why not. See the Oracle Express Home Page

Oracle Database 11g Express Edition (Oracle Database XE) is an entry-level, small-footprint database based on the Oracle Database 11g Release 2 code base. It's free to develop, deploy, and distribute; fast to download; and simple to administer.
Oracle Database XE is a great starter database for:
Developers working on PHP, Java, .NET, XML, and Open Source applications
DBAs who need a free, starter database for training and deployment
Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and hardware vendors who want a starter database to distribute free of charge
Educational institutions and students who need a free database for their curriculum
With Oracle Database XE, you can now develop and deploy applications with a powerful, proven, industry-leading infrastructure, and then upgrade when necessary without costly and complex migrations.
Oracle Database XE can be installed on any size host machine with any number of CPUs (one database per machine), but XE will store up to 11GB of user data, use up to 1GB of memory, and use one CPU on the host machine.
Support is provided through a free Oracle Discussion Forum monitored by Oracle employees as well as community experts.

Like others messages, I've got problems to see the Oracle 10g Home Page. I can log to the database in SQL Plus perfectly, but not in Home Page. I tried by the following ways:
    http://127.0.0.1:8080
    http://127.0.0.1:1521
    http://{my_ip_adress}:8080
    http://localhost:8080
and I can't display anything. I've got WinXP Professional Edition and Norton Internet Security. I tried to connect changing the options of Norton's Firewall, but the Home Page doesn't work. Somebody has any idea what´s my problem?? If so, tell me please. I've worked many nights in the solution, but the problem still be there.
    Thanks for reading, and replay...
    Mario.

    To diagnose a installation issue:-
    Please provide the following
    1) The output (from the DOS command line) of lsnrctl status
    2) The output (from the DOS command line) of netstat -a
    3) The output (from the SQL Command line) of
    connect / as sysdba;
    select select dbms_xdb.gethttpport() from dual;
Please note that the output of netstat -a can provide information that could be used to compromise your system. If the system is on the network, please upload the output to the upload site.
If this checks out correctly (8080 is the port), then it is a browser issue. These can be legion. Check that you are not going to a proxy server for 127.0.0.1 or host. Check that you are not disabling access to 127.0.0.1 or host in your browser. Check that cookies are enabled. If possible, try a different browser (copy and paste the URL from one to another) Check that the host name you are providing actually resolves to your local machine (ping host)

  • Opening new tab does not display my home page by default, what setting do I change to achieve this?

When selecting the open new tab option, in the past, the tab opened displaying my designated home page. It now opens displaying a YAHOO! search page. My home page settings have not changed and continue to display the correct address, selecting 'home' brings up the correct home page, at any time during browsing. Is there another location where this 'invalid' new tab address might be listed, and removed or reset ?

VC you are a genius! I solved my problem with your solution.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Cannot View Database Home Page After Upgrading to XE 3.2 on Windows XP

    Hi all,
I have recently upgraded from APEX 3.1 to APEX 3.2 on my Oracle 10g XE database running on Windows XP SP3.
Unfortunately after successfully completing the upgrade and starting the services when I try and visit the Start -> All Programs -> Oracle Database 10g Express Edition -> Go To Oracle Database Home Page I am receiving a page cannot be found error (or broken link message, depending on the browser I try IE7, Firefox 3.0.10 or Chrome 2.0).
The link I am being directed to is:
http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex (I have an entry in my Hosts file referring this to localhost).
How can I tell if Port 8080 is still open and accessible? I am using the embedded web pl/sql gateway and tried reconfiguring it again by running apxconf.sql as SYS:
    SQL> @apxconf.sql
    PORT
    8080
Enter values below for the XDB HTTP listener port and the password for the Application Express ADMIN user.
Default values are in brackets [ ].
Press Enter to accept the default value.
Enter a password for the ADMIN user []
Enter a port for the XDB HTTP listener [      8080] +<simply returned default>+
    ...changing HTTP Port

I have turned off my Firewall, checked against multiple browsers.... HELP!!!!
I've backed out the 3.2 upgrade and reinstalled and receieved the same issue. The next step is to unistall the XE database and reinstall, but I'm loathed to do that without seeking some responses from this Forum.
    Many thanks.
    Have a great day.
    Kind Regards,
    Gary.

    Hello Roel,
Thank you taking the time to reply.
I had previously tried all those url combinations and still no luck.
I also found out about displaying the HTTP port number. And you were right it was listening on the default 8080. I disabled it and re-enabled it on port 9080 to see if that made a difference but it didn't so I decided to remoce Oracle XE database and go through the reinstallation and subsequent upgarde to APEX 3.2. Everything appera sto be working fime now.
One point of note is that if I view the Listener status now I notice another line from what I had previously referring to the HTTP listener, although my listener.ora file never changed (apart from having the TNS Listener port resuming to the default 1521).

Can anyone answer why this may have been omitted previously? Presumably this is why my browser couldn't render anything from APEX.
