Mail Accounts settings:  Incoming Mail Server=mail.me.com and is grey(cannot change), IMAP Path Prefix=blank, Port =143 but greyed out, Use SSL not checked

You need SSL to be enabled: you chould check it and the port will probably change to 993. You should also check SSL in the SMTP server settings.
That done you should be able to use the existing MobileMe settings. If you are still having trouble you could go through the setup procedure for the iCloud server settings detailed here:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard

when I select "Get Info" in iTunes, iTunes "NOT RESPONDING"

What you see in iTunes is a database list which also contains unseen information as to which file iTunes should play on your computer when you click on a track.  Usually those files are in folders inside your iTunes > Media folder.  When iTunes asks you to find a file say yes and then guide it to the actual file you want it to play in your media folder.  It should then asks if you want it to find others and will re-scan the series of folders to rebuild the links.  If you cannot find the file on your computer then you will have to restore from a backup.

  • Mail not getting mail from Gmail

    Hi,
Can anybody help please.  I've been running Mountain Lion on my laptop for a year, my Mail has 2 gmails accounts connected to it.  They have worked perfectly until the last few days but now they won't connect.
I keep getting the message: "The connection to the server “imap.gmail.com” on port 993 timed out."
I've checked and rechecked passwords etc but nothing seems to work.  I've changed no settings.
Does anyone have any ideas?  This is driving me nuts!

Hey, I've mended it! I disabled my avast mail shield and this did the trick.  I've got no idea why this has suddenly blocked incoming mail but there you go!

  • Mac mail and gmail are not syncing

I just bought my very first mac computer, the MacBook Pro. I set up my Mac Mail to my gmail account. My gmail account won't sync up to my macmail though. All the messages are there as well as my contacts and the mac mail receives new emails when I get them, however they are not synced up. For example, when I delete a message in mac mail, it doesn't delete on my gmail account and vice versa. How do I get it so the two are synced?

I just added Gmail to my Apple Mail and the only thing that I am trying to "fix" is that when I delete an email in Apple Mail, it shows up still in the Gmail inbox with the label "deleted messages" or without the label depending on what settings I use in Apple Mail.
How do I get these messages out of my inbox?
I am having same issue. This is a new development as I don't recall it doing this before. I was using the delete button in mail and this would archive the message (my desired behavior)...
not sure why there aren't moving out of gmail's inbox...is it possible Google is working on something behind the scenes?
Fixed this one issue (at least for my setup)...
It's a little misleading but it's the advanced imap settings in gmail's settings that was throwing me off...
    Under the the "expunge" settings
x Immediately expunge messages when I mark them deleted in IMAP
    Do not automatically expunge messages
Makes the "delete" button in Mail "archive" the message and move it to "All Mail"
Immediately expunge messages when I mark them deleted in IMAP
x Do not automatically expunge messages
Makes the "delete" button in Mail remove it from the folder in Mail, but not in Gmail, unless it's a message that is expunged from the last visible IMAP folder, then it goes by the second set of settings (archive, trash, delete immediately) that are only available if "do not automatically expunge messages" is chosen...

  • Mac Mail - IMAP Gmail

I have a domain set up for work which directs email to my gmail account. This works a treat and I can send and receive email as if from the domain name.
I have recently bought an iphone so set up my gmail account to be IMAP, hoping I could use it for my phone and macmail. I can receive the emails through both, but can only send using the dummy account name with gmail.
All I want to do is send email using mydomain.com through mac mail and my iphone, using gmail as a dummy IMAP account. Ever get the feeling you're not explaining yourself too well?! Aargh! Hope someone can help though.

I'd follow WBW advice, but here's some more info.
What gmail does to be able to send as a different "FROM" is just authenticating you as being the owner of the "FROM" you want to use and then naming it as they will, just like you can post a mail on the post office and say it came from anywhere you wish - you just change the "FROM" field on the letter.
It also says it's coming from gmail, but most mail servers just ignore it or tell you "delivered by" using some SMTP standards.
Both Mac Mail app and iPhone do similar stuff. You have to first setup an inbox account to be able to use it as a "FROM". Then you can even send it through another server, gmail in your case, and say you're sending it from the other domain - if that server allows it (which most do, including gmail as you know).
You can configure as many SMTP as you wish on either, but you just have to do all that - just like you did on gmail. For each one you'll have a full mailbox configured.

  • Mail and Gmail are not syncing

I am having the syncing problem when trying to set up my account. I've gone through the set up process multiple times double checking everything. When the page comes up "checking the IMAP server" it takes forever then comes to a screen that says "The IMAP server “mail.gmail.com” is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the “Incoming Mail Server” field. If it still doesn’t respond, the server might be temporarily unavailable."
The only problem is I check the internet connection and its fine. I check all my info and as far as I know, its fine.
    Please help!

Hello onewhisdrums, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    This might be easy.
Incoming Mail Server for IMAP should be...
    imap.gmail.com
mail.gmail.com is for POP3, smtp.gmail.com is good for Outgoing on both.

  • In email when switching from 1 mail to another ff "not responding" how to fix.

when checking email then switch to another ff locks up and on top it says ff "NOT RESPONDING" Then it turns almost white. Sometimes it will flash brightly and then start working, sometimes needs to restart. This all started when ff updated itself to version26. No problem in ver 25. Yahoo! mail? Many, many users have discovered all kinds of problems and glitches with Yahoo! mail in Firefox when using an old bookmark saved before Yahoo!'s recent server changes.
I suggest clearing your Yahoo cookies and entering through the main page to get a better address for your current mail server.
To remove your Yahoo cookies -- save any pending work first -- call up the Cookies dialog while viewing any page on yahoo.com (or your Yahoo site). You can use either:
    * right-click the page > View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then go to one of these Yahoo addresses and click on login or mail from there:
    * Yahoo home page: https://www.yahoo.com/
    * My Yahoo page: https://my.yahoo.com/
    * General mail redirect: https://mail.yahoo.com/
    * AT&T users: http://att.yahoo.com/
    * Other country sites (not on .com): the main Yahoo page for your country

  • Mail Problems - SMTP server not responding: "offline"

I am currently testing DSL service for a month; set up Mail just before I downloaded the 10.7.3 release. Tested it once and it worked; did not use it to send emails since because I am only testing this (including the email address). I have been receiving emails (which I forwarded to myself from my cable provider's website); today, I wanted to send an email and a 6 hour troubleshooting saga began....
Total of 2 hours with Centurylink tech support; 1 1/2 hours with Applecare, and another 30 minutes with Centurylink.
During that time, all different settings were tried, turned on/off. POP server ok, SMTP server not responding. With Applecare, tried it on both the iMac and the Macbook; also tried it after booting into Snow Leopard - SMTP server not responding ("offline"). Applecare tech stated that it has to be the server since we tried it on two machines as well as SL. Centurylink insists there is nothing wrong with their server, but it's Mail's fault.
So, I finally gave up for the evening, but wonder if there is something amiss with Mail in 10.7.3 (both machines are on the same version) and during the troubleshooting, I noticed an anomaly: in a new message window, there was no choice to choose an account to send from which I thought was odd.
I was thinking of a new install or to clone back? My clones are up to date though, I have no older clones. I do have a fresh install but it's also the latest one from MAS. Or I could just boot from the fresh install and set up Mail to see if it would work?
    Grateful for any ideas....

Thanks to everyone; as you can imagine, all settings/configurations were tried yesterday (even booting into SL); Apple said it's Centurylink's fault, and they insisted there was nothing wrong with their server.
FWIW, I unplugged my Comcast cable (it is still active though and I'm getting TV reception, just unplugged the modem for now); right now, my internet access and email account are with Centurylink for the test. I still access my Comcast mail via their web interface email account.
Anyway, thanks to a good friend's idea, I decided to check keychain access and to make it short: the issue is fixed and the problem definitely had something to do with the OS because:
When I first checked keychain, this is what I saw:
I then checked Comcast settings and there were two: one was checked "allow all apps..." and the other had the "confirm" with Mail listed under the applications.
So I figured it's so screwed up, I probably can't make it any worse, so I deleted the Internet Accounts and added Mail to the smtp.centurylink...:
And......... it then worked! These default "internetaccounts" obviously aren't being recognized by Centurylink's server?
And, to make sure that was it, I not only did the same thing on the Macbook, but also booted into a pristine "backup" fresh install (no added apps or files, just default OS), launched Mail and couldn't send. Launched Keychain, changed the apps to Mail, and I was able to send email.
I would call that a bug? Or not? In any case, I'll be calling back Applecare and tell them to add the above to the very long log from yesterday and to make a note that "internetaccounts" doesn't work with everything.

  • IMAP-GMAIL still not working

Well, I really would like to use Apple-Mail and it (imap-gmail) just doesn't work. Whatever I do; I have deleted and created gmail-imap over and over again,as the gmailhelp tells me, but all my labels are NOT visible in Mail. They're just not there. Same for 'drafts', 'sent' etc. In my labels I have
like 200 organized emails all together and in my inbox/incoming mail about 7.
Those seven is all I see in Apple Mail. The GMAIL on the left sidebar is gray
and there are no maps. The mailactivity though, is active; I see when
creating imap-account again, the 200 mails coming in, but I don't know where!
They are not visible! Now what??

    Hi Ephra,
GMail's IMAP is working for me; it's one of the reasons I finally switched over from Entourage. I have 12 email accounts, and I've got them all forwarding to one GMail account. That one GMail account is now the only account I have set up in Mail. I have it set so that all incoming emails come into my Mailbox Inbox. I also have 62 folders, subfolders, and sub-subfolders (aka 'labels' in Gmail) set up under the [GMail] folder. I set them up via Mail (not via Gmail.com) by clicking on that lower left corner + sign and selected "New Mailbox." Initially, I was told that GMail wouldn't take subfolders, but they work just fine. It does take some sections for them to appear, because it needs to map them to GMail's server, but eventually they show up.
Also: moving all the mail in my local folders to these new GMail folders/Labels took some time. Like you, I have 1,000s of emails in these 62 folders and it took awhile to upload them (I'm talking hours). And often GMail's server would "time out" and only 1/3 of the emails of a folder would copy up/over. But I just kept dragging and dropping and eventually all the emails are now in my GMail server account.
I'm probably not using the right language to describe all this, but it's now all working. And man, I don't know how GMail does it, but their spam filter is simply amazing. I also use SpamSieve, but it doesn't have much of a job any more.

  • Mail hang and is not responding in activity monitor after mavericks update

I click on the mail icon in my dock it just hangs and wont open. The activity monitor says it is just not responding. Any suggestions?

You have a program running that is incompatible. What third-party sound or audio applications are you running? It will be one of those. If you quit them the problem should disappear. You will have to force quit coreaudio and UserEventAgent via Activity Monitor or restart the computer but do not run the third-party application(s).

  • "Canot get mail"

For the past day or so when I have tried to read my e-mails I am getting the message "Cannot get mail. The connection to the server "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" failed". I can't think of any reason why this has suddenly happened. When I look in settings everything looks OK - I don't understand everything in there but the IP address is filled in. Can anyone help? It is just the internet services that aren't working.
    Thank you.

    Hi Scott
Just before my mum took it to her house I tried it again and it updated. I thought the problem had solved itself as strangely as it had happened but I then tried again and got the old message. My mum said she would try it a few times at her house and let me know at teatime. I have telephoned a few times and there is no reply so I think they have gone out and forgotten to ring me! I'll ring her in the morning and see what's happening - if it isn't working at her house either I think something must have gone wrong with it. I'll let you know.
Thanks again for all your help - I can't believe my mum has just gone out and forgotten to ring me, I told her how long I had spent trying to sort out what was wrong with it! Thanks for sticking with me!
    Regards.
    Michelle
