Canot Import Bookmarks from Safari

Instructions say to import bookmarks go to File>Import. Under the file menu, the word Import… is never highlighted, so I can't click on it. How can I get this to work so I can import bookmarks from Safari?

Thanks lot! It was "in the row of icons at the top, choose the button that has a star with a sync icon inside of it (fifth from the left)" that got me there.''

  • I have imported bookmarks from Safari to Firefox but the bookmarks bar does not change in Firefox and match that of Safari. That's the part I need most. Any ideas why? Also, I don't see where to choose for Firefox to be my default browser.

I use a Imac with OS 10.6.7. I've just uploaded Firefox 4. I had Firefox 3 already but do not use it often. I've been using Safari. I imported bookmarks from Safari to Firefox, but the bookmarks bar in Firefox did not change to match that of Safari, and that's where the important bookmarks are. Any ideas?
Also, I can't find where to choose Firefox as my default browser.

Copy the files from the old Profile into the new Profile, replacing the existing files that are in the new Profile. That will make your new installation just like the old one.
Or if you just want your bookmarks, copy only the '''places.sqlite''' file from the old Profile into the new Profile.

Import and Backup is the third (last) button on the toolbar in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) that looks like a star.<br />
Other platforms show the text label, but on Mac you only see toolbar icons.

  • Cannot import bookmarks from Safari on a Mac because "import" under the file menu is grayed out.

To import bookmarks from Safari on a Mac following the instructions for the import wizard, I am to select "import" under the Firefox file menu, but "import" is grayed out, so I cannot select it.

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode. In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links and disabled and not available.
    * You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed.
    See [[Private Browsing]] and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_Private_Browsing
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting '''Firefox will: Use custom settings for history'''

  • Firefox 15.0.1 cannot import bookmarks from Safari 6.0.1

    Hello,
Firefox 15.0.1 cannot import bookmarks from Safari 6.0.1.
I have followed the steps below:
    1) Export all Safari bookmarks to an HTML file (File --> Export Bookmarks)
    2) Import bookmarks into Firefox (Bookmarks --> Show all bookmarks --> Import and Backup --> Import Bookmarks from HTML)
Firefox seems to load the HTML file, but the bookmarks never show up in Firefox.
Any thoughts about why this is happening?
    Best,
    Jaime.-

  • Cannot import bookmarks from Safari because "import" option is NOT highlighted (not available). Why?

    MacBook Pro - FireFox 4
I was able in the past (earlier FireFox versions) to import bookmarks from Safari when clicking on the "Organize Bookmarks." This now is not available. Instead, under "file" there is an "import" option but it is NOT highlighted, i.e., it is not available for clicking. How do you import bookmarks from Safari (or any other browser) after you have used FireFox for a while. i.e., not when you first set it up, but later?

"Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in the bookmarks menu.
The option to import can be disabled if you are in private browsing mode. To stop Firefox opening in private browsing mode do this:
    # Open the Preferences window and go to the Privacy panel
    # Change the setting "Firefox will" to "Remember history", alternatively if you set it to "Use custom settings for history", de-select the setting "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

  • I want to import bookmarks from Safari but there is no import choice in the file menu

my firefox does not have the option to import my bookmarks, even though in Help it says it does. What do I do?

    Exporting bookmarks from Safari
Go to File->Export Bookmarks. Safari saves your bookmarks in an HTML file. Save the HTML file to the Desktop or any other location of your choice.
    Importing bookmarks to Firefox
Go to Bookmarks->Show all bookmarks. This will open up the Bookmarks Library.
    Click Import and Backup...
Select Import Bookmarks from HTML.. from drop down menu.
Locate your HTML file exported from Safari.
You can use Safari Bookmark Exporter to export bookmarks to an HTML file,if exporting to the HTML file is not supported by Safari.

  • I can't import bookmarks from SAFARI 6.0.1 on a MAC to FIREFOX 15.0.1.

I've followed directions for importing from HTML file and importing from another browser to no avail. I did get empty folders importing from another browser. Just empty folders no bookmarks.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Did you manage to export the bookmarks in Safari to an HTML file like posted above?
You need to do that first.<br />
Then you can open the HTML file in a (plain) text editor to check whether sections that start with "<H3" have a FOLDED attribute.<br />
If that is the case then you need to remove all the occurrences of the FOLDED attribute and save the file as plain text.<br />
After that you should be able to import the file in Firefox.

  • I just opened Foxfire and it automatically imported bookmarks from safari, but not all of them. How can I get the rest of them ?

I still have Safari on the computer with all my bookmarks. Not all of them came over to Firefox. How can I get them over. Also I had some in the toolbar that displayed over the window. Does this browser have that feature?

Export the bookmarks in Safari to an HTML file and import that file in Firefox.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks ("From Safari" and "Import from file")

  • To import bookmarks from Safari, Help says to select Import from the File menu, but there is no Import option there. What then is the first step to import Safari bookmarks?.

I was reading from the Help menu which does provide the warning that the material may be outdated since it is not supported.

The Import option has been moved from the File menu to the Library window; that article needs to be revised.
*''Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks'' to open the Library window
*In the Library window, ''Import and Backup > Import Data from Another Browser''

  • How do I import bookmarks from safari? I am using firefox 7.0.1 with apple lion 10.7.2

The "Import" option is gone with Firefox 7.0.1. I sure would like to be able to import all my bookmarks from Safari

I don't know if you have saved bookmarks since original Firefox install., but importing bookmarks later will add them all the end of the "Bookmarks Menu": you will have to
move the content of the bookmarks toolbar however it is called in IE to your "Bookmarks Toolbar" the rest of your bookmarks you want to move to "Bookmarks Menu" especially if they are organized into folders.
Bookmarks menu > Show All Bookmarks (Ctrl+Shift+B) > Import > from Internet Explorer
Having Firefox as the default browser is needed which you recognized, but since IE had been you default browser you must tell IE to check to see if it is the default browser, it will test to see if it is and find that is not. Refuse the request to make IE the default broswer and you should be okay.

  • How do I import bookmarks from Safari on a Mac?

I have a Mac (OS X 10.6.8) and it's version of Safari (5.1.1 (6534.51.22)) has a full compliment of bookmarks, which I would like to import into Firefox for Mac 7.0.1. However, the documentation I can find is (a) out out of maintenance an (b) refers to a pulldown option on the File menu, which does not appear on my version of Firefox.
    What do I do?

Import and Backup is the third (last) button on the toolbar in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) that looks like a star.<br />

  • Can't import bookmarks from Safari - folder empty

Can't import Safari bookmarks -- folder is empty. Working on iMac flat-panel PPC OS X 10.4.11; Safari v4.1 -- Firefox v3.6.6 (just upgraded! sucks.)

Yes, I couldn't see anything starting with H3, Only bookmark names.
I assume I am checking correctly? For example, Sydney Ferries - Home is one bookmark. When I open the .Html file and click this, the webpage opens on Sydney Ferries.
    Thanks for your reply.
