• How to recover information from old sync account?

HDD died on me, but I didn't think it much of a problem, as I just thought I'd pair the new installation with my android phone. However, I should have noticed much earlier that there are new sync accounts, and migrated to them. Now I can access all tabs, passwords and so on from my phone, but cannot pair them up with the new installation. And, while the old drive does allow some amount of reading, C: is completely untouchable, so I cannot do a normal backup and restore of the profile.
Now, to recover all that information, I have to load all 50+ sync tabs on my phone, then migrate to the new sync? Would that lose any information, like passwords or history? Is there any alternative?

Windows doesn't even recognize the old disk, xubuntu helped me recover some of the data partition, but C: was completely corrupted. Tried my best there.
Installing an old version of firefox did work, however, as I've saved my recovery key in a safe place. This way I've recovered bookmarks, preferences, at least most of my old tabs (not all, strangely), and, most importantly, the history, so I will just call this a job well done.
Thanks for the answer, and for the tip about Android; that certainly saved me some headache before I figure it out myself.

• Cannot access conflicts unable to retrieve contact information from the sync server.

ITunes error message Cannot access conflicts unable to retrieve contact information from the sync server.

I got this advice from Gator5000e on Apple Supposrt Communities:
I use Windows 7 so the path to find this file
might be different under a different OS.
Close iTunes. Search on the words "conflicts.synconflicts".
I renamed it to conflictsold.synconflicts the .synconflicts is the extension so you can't
rename that.
Then restarted Windows. As a test I made changes to a note in NOTES on each device. Then connected them one at a time to my computer which has iTunes 10 and Runs Windows 7, it worked !

• Unable to retrieve information from the sync server

I have notes from my palm days too! If you haven't resolved this, below there is a "more like this" set of links. One of them lists four solutions to this problem including how I resolved mine. Good luck!

• Access transaction information from a GOS

Hello,
I am creating a new generic object service for a transaction. I have no problems with the creation but I would like to know if once the user has clicked in the service and the new screen pop ups, is it possible to access the information from the original transaction?
I know you have the business object associated with most of the information, but my question is if, for example you can access elements of the transaction layout, i.e. access internal tables or data structures. Is that possible? I understand that these information has to be somewhere because once you close the service you return to the original transaction.
Best regards,

Deepti,
Search this forum for WDProtocolAdapter if you are on NW04s or for term WDWebContextAdapter otherwise (NW04). In later case do not use Requerst object and internal methods to get reference, use standard API methods instead.

• Conflict Resolver Sync Error - Unable to retrieve conflict information from the sync server

So I have been using iTunes with my iPhone 3GS and now my iPhone 4 to sync with my Outlook for many years now and it has been flawless.
I recently bought a new iPad and started syncing it as well.
Now as of late, after every 2 or 3 syncs, I get an error from iTunes displaying the Conflict Resolver and it says there are 42 sync conflicts.
When I try use the Review Now button it shows up and the issues are between my iPhone and Outlook and are only related to contacts.
As soon as I try to choose which record to resolve, the window immediately disappears without giving me a chance to finish and I get another dialog window with the error:
Unable to retrieve conflict information from the sync server.
Please try again the next time the conflict resolver window is presented.
When I try to sync again it seems to be fine. But then after I sync my iPad and theny iPhone again it shows up and it still won't let me resolve the conflicts.
I have tried the following:
1) Rest Sync History on all devices
2) I have had iTunes replace all the contacts on the iPad from iTunes
3) I have changed the conflict resolver to only notify when 50% of the data will be changed
I have had no such luck.
If I add a contact to Outlook or to my iPhone and then sync it seems to be syncing the new addtions correctly. However, I cannot get this issue with this 42 conflicts resolved for some reason. This has been going on for a month now.

Here is the solution.
Rationale: You want to be able to have the dates on your items (notes, contacts) on your iphone to be the same as on outlook. This will eliminate any sync conflicts. You will also notice that if you modify something on the iphone and sync, you will lose the modification you made.
Steps:
1) In outlook, export the data (contacts, notes) to a CSV file
2) Delete you notes/contacts in outlook
3) Sync your iphone and select replace information on this iPhone (in iTunes)
4) Now your contacts and notes will be empty on both your iPhone and Outlook
5) Now import your contacts and notes from the CSV files back into outlook. What this does is put the current date and time on every individual item
6) Sync your iPhone to iTunes normally
7) everything will work correctly now with no sync issues and no conflicts.

• Received new mac how do you get all your information from old mac?

Received a new mac for my daughter. How do you get all the information from old mac?

Your best bet, by far, is to use Setup Assistant when your shiny new Mac first starts up (not Migration Assistant later).
See How do I set up a new Mac from my old Mac or its backups?

• I made a mess while migrating information from old Mac

When I was attempting to migrate my information from my old Mac to my new MacBook Pro overnight, the power cord was not firmly connected and the battery went dead in mid-process. My son, where I was visiting, created a new account, named ‘tempaccount’ and did another migration. Later, at home, I noticed that most things -- documents, photos, fonts, music -- had not transferred. I had to travel to another continent to be with an ill family member so I transferred these via USB. Now I have a big mess, since some things are in one place on my hard drive and some are in the ‘temp account’. I am not so good with computers, can’t figure out how to resolve this mess, and would appreciate any help.

If you still have access to the old Mac, or Time Machine or "clone" backups of it, your best bet, by far, is to start over and use Setup Assistant. See How do I set up a new Mac from my old Mac or its backups? and note the green "Second Chance" box. That will set up the new one exactly like the old one.
If you no longer have access to the old Mac or backups, you will find it tedious and difficult to "merge" accounts. See Transferring files from one User Account to another.

• I cant access my ipod from itunes

ok, ive looked all over itunes to fix this problem. i just bought an ipod video and i just finished downloading my music from my itunes, the only problem is that i cant access my ipod!! there is a icon that looks like a lock near the free space end of my ipod
THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
Used: 7.79 GB [ ] Free: 20.03 GB (and heres the icon)
so... i can put music onto my ipod, i just cant take it off... or change it...

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

• Archiving Information from "old" SAP systems and switch off the server

Good day
I hope someone can offer some advice. Our company has a few sites across the globe. Three of the sites in South Africa ( where I'm working at the moment ) had their own SAP systems. Three odd years ago, we implementeted a new SAP system, combining the separate SAP systems into the new one, running of the same box etc etc. The "old" SAP systems were still availbale after the new one went live, in the event that people want to look back at history.
We are you busy with a project where we are going to merge our current SAP implementation into our global SAP system... obviously only the current master data are going to be transfered to the new system. It's an idea time for us to clean up our data.
My question: Once we go live on our global SAP system, we want to "export" or archive from the 3 "old" SAP systems the Master Data from the HR module ( like employees who's left the company - it's law to keep the records for 5 years at least once a employee has left) , HSEC and FI modules into a single datastore... this way we don't have to keep the three servers running in the event that history is required. The servers wil be kept off-line and only switched back on if a detailed audit is required.
The global SAP system does not have an archive solution implemented to we can't access archived data from the new system...
So, we need to export master data from our 3 old SAP boxes into a Unicode type file system, and our local South African sites needs to be able to access the information using a text type editor or a web based interface we can run off our SAP Portal...
Thank you

Hello Cornelius,
To introduce myself, I am an active SDN/BPX member as well as an ASUG Archiving and Information Lifecycle Management Volunteer.
Decommissioning Legacy Systems (SAP and non-SAP systems) is quite the topic these days with divestitures becoming such a common occurrence.
Some things to think about in this situation are:
Identifying the data to be decommissioned:
what information would be needed for an audit
what information would be needed for a lawsuit situation
Identifying the access requirements to this data.
Identifying the retention policies for this data (this will be
driven by regulatory requirements, etc.).
If this has not already been done - define retention periods for this data - it will most likely have different retention periods based on the type of data.
You mention that you do not have an archive solution in place yet.
I would recommend that you may want to research that option because typical requirements for retaining legacy data is that it is stored in such a manner so that it is protected from any type of modification.
There are a lot of 3rd party archiving/storage solutions that provide this type of secure storage.
You are correct in that you will want to export or archive the legacy data as opposed to loading the data into your current system. It would probably involve a large increase in the size of your SAP database and you would probably run into number range overlaps.
But, if this data is exported to a filesystem, you will be losing the business logic associated with the data, and the information is no longer in its original format (this could have legal ramifications).
I would recommend using SAP Archiving functionality for this effort. If you are looking for outside resources, there are many vendors out there that have a lot of experience with these types of projects.
Two that come to mind are Dolphin IT and OpenText.
Or, depending on the timeline of your project, SAP is coming out with a tool that can be used for decommissioning SAP Systems. It is part of
their SAP ILM solution. It will be called Retention Warehouse. Here is a paragraph from their latest white paper describing this new tool:
With the retention warehouse, SAP now offers a
standardized method for system decommissioning in
answer to these pressing issues. It allows you to reuse the archived data outside the original system in a central
retention warehouse.
For more detail on this topic, the white paper can be found on the SAP ILM Website:
service.sap.com/ilm
This tool is part of a larger initiative from SAP to help customers with their ILM (Information Lifecycle Management) strategy. This tool is near and dear to me as I was fortunate enough to be part of an
ASUG Influence Council that helped with some of the requirements for this solution.
I hope this information is useful.
Good luck and Best Regards,

• Can't access iTunes store from old mac running os 10.4

Hi... I have an Mac G4 (PowerPC) running OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger). It's running the most current version of iTunes that was supported by that OS version. I'm getting rid of that old machine soon and all I wanted to do was de-authorize iTunes from that computer. The computer is clearly connected to the Internet but when I open iTunes and try to get it to connect to the iTunes Store, it constantly says an error occurred and it then says to check to see that the computer is connected to the network.
Any ideas why I can't connect to iTunes??? I clearly know the login information so that's not the problem. Is the iTunes store no longer supporting OS X Tiger or something like that???
On a related question, I see where I can de-authorize all computers from another computer and then reauthorize on the couple of computers where I still want to be able to use iTunes and the store. Is there any danger with this deauthorize and then reauthorize concept??? Do I risk losing anything on the computers I still want to be authorize to access iTunes???
Any help would be much appreciated... thanks... bob...

I don't know the answer to the first part (why you can't get to iTunes through Tiger), but regarding the second part, deauthorizing will not cause you to lose any information. While deauthorized, you won't be able to access some information, but it won't be erased or removed.

• Accessing RSM information from powershell or command line

I am trying to get information on Tape Mount Counts to determine when tapes are nearing their life expectancy.
I have been unable to find a way to access the information without using the Management GUI and doing a lot of clicking.
I would prefer to query the system to find out what tapes are in the library, and what their mount counts are.
Using Powershell and RSM View, I can enumerate all the tapes, their labels and guids, but I can't find a way to get the mount count.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
thanks,
Ole Jensen.

Hi,
Is there more than one library returned from the command:
$DPMLib = Get-DPMLibrary -DPMServerName "TestingServer"
$DPMLIB
If so, you need to select one of them using an [index number]
Start-DPMLibraryInventory -DPMLibrary $DPMLib[0] -FastInventory

• Erasing all personal information from old phone (got a replacement)

My camera button fell off my Droid X so they sent a replacement. First of all the guy at Verizon was wrong because "everything including by personal backgrounds and ringtones" did not switch over, just my contacts.
But my main concern is following the instruction to "erase all personal information from the old phone". I looked at the security options and settings and I don't see where this is possible.
I'd rather speed this up since they say they will bill me for the full retail price of the phone if it's not sent back in 10 days.
Thanks,

• Recovering information from Firefox Sync

Ok, so here's the thing. I needed to reinstall my computer, so before doing it I set up Sync and synced all my bookmarks and passwords and everything. Now that I've reinstalled everything, I tried to recover all the information from Sync. I connected to my account and entered the key, but nothing happened, none information was recovered. How do I get it back?
I am using OS X.

You can get some data from the backup using:
iPhone Backup Extractor for Windows and Mac
You can also purchase or borrow another iOS device and restore that device from your iPod backup.

• Syncing my phone it says I have conflicts when then I get the message "Unable to retrieve conflict information from the sync server. Please try again next treset Sync history and hasn't helped.

Here is the solution.
Rationale: You want to be able to have the dates on your items (notes, contacts) on your iphone to be the same as on outlook. This will eliminate any sync conflicts. You will also notice that if you modify something on the iphone and sync, you will lose the modification you made.

6) Sync your iPhone to iTunes normally
