Cant access my PCs shared file from my Macbook?

I have a PC running XPsp2 and a MacBook running OSX 10.5 and I’m just wondering how to access files from my PC while on my Mac.
The Mac recognises my PC net work but every time I try and open the sharedDocs folder the mac tells me:
“the operation cannot be completed because the original item for “SharedDocs” cannot be found.”
Any help would be very much appreciated
I have tried enabling file sharing though system preferences> sharing.
and
“Apple key K” Connecting to server > putting in my PC Ip number.
And it seem to have no trouble fining there folders I select to share on my PC desktop but just wont open them from the Mac.
I have also turned fire wall off on my pc and created a new user with full privileges and tried login in with that…but no luck.
PLESE PLESE PLESE HELP
Im also on MSN if anyone want to live shoot

Thank you for your post,
Sorry it is 10.5.2
Did as you suggested:
“Disable file-sharing on the XP machine and reboot. Then re-enable file-sharing and reboot”.
But no luck, have put another folder on my PC desk top called “test” and enable file-sharing on it.
This file also shows up on my mac under Shared>”my PC” but I also get the message on the mac after the one above “A volume Failed to mount the volume “Documents” could not be mounted”
(sorry about this I really am very new to the world of Mac)

  • Accessing Time Capsule shared drive from Vista

When running Vista in Bootcamp on my late 2008 Macbook Pro, I can see the shared network drive on the Time Capsule, but when I try to access it it just freezes Windows Explorer and I have to forcibly terminate the explorer process. Is there a trick to get it to work? I'd like to use Norton Ghost to backup Vista on the Time Capsule drive.
    Thanks.

I have a 1TB TC currently working as my router for a Macbook, Vaio and Dell laptops. I can only access the files from the Macbook. I tried installing Bonjour on the Vaio, but still cannot access the saved files...maybe the install was not good? Any ideas? I tried the online Bonjour download...I do not have the disc.

I went into the pro and turned on the sharing ability in the user file. when I looked at this from the air, and clicked on the music, a message came up that said " I dont have permission to see these contents". how can i change this so I can use the files?

The easiest way around this is to reformat the external drive to be FAT32 if you want to use it with other PCs, or HFS+ if you only want to use it with Macs. You will lose all the data off the drive when you do this.
You can reformat the drive using Disk Utility.

  • How do I access my back up files from the time machine if my computer was stolen?

Hi, how do I access my back up files from the time machine if my mac book pro was stolen? I have a mac book air and mac too. But not sure how I can get back all the files from the stolen computer from my time capsule

On the Mac Book Air or other Mac that you have, use Migration Assistant to transfer files from the Time Machine backups of the Mac that was taken.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant

  • How can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

how can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

That's exactly what I meant, but for some reason Home Sharing stopped working on my iPad2 once I activated iTunes Match.
Since then, I waited for iTunes Match to finish setting up and scanning my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro and I restarted my iPad2. Both Home Sharing and iTunes Match are now up and running smoothly!
    Thanks for the reply!

  • Sharing files from windows with mountain lion

SINCE THE RELEASE OF LION AND MOUNTAIN LION. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO PROPERLY SHARE FILES FROM MY MACBOOK PRO (MID 2009) TO MY WINDOWS DESKTOP (VISTA HOME PREMIUM) WITHOUT LOGGING IN AS A GUEST. I PRESS CTRL+K ON MY MAC, I TYPE IN SMB://IP ADDRESS (NOT GOING TO SAY EXACTLY MY IP IS) AND A LOGIN SCREEN POPS UP. IT ASKS FOR A USER NAME AND PASSWORD. I USED TO ABLE TO LOGIN WITH MY USER NAME THAT'S ON MY MAC AND NO PASSWORD. HOWEVER; SINCE LION AND MOUNTAIN LION HAVE BEEN RELEASED I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO LOOK INTO MY WINDOWS FROM MY MAC AS A GUEST. I NEED HELP FIGURING OUT WHY IM BEING FORCED TO USE GUEST.

Open Keychain Access App, it is in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. Then look through it for entries for your PC, Like username and or name of PC.
But in the end I don't really think that is going to solve your problem. Like everything with computers at any time something can get screwed up and it happens mostly when you are Upgrading to a New OS over the top of an older OS. This happen with Windows and Mac OS X.
So if my suggestion has no affect on you being able to log in to a Real User Account on the Win PC then it is something that happened durring the upgrade from you older version of OS X to Mt Lion. About the only way to correct that is to wipe the drive and reinstall clean. you can then use a current Time Machine backup to restore just your Files, Programs and Setting from that backup without overwriting the system files of that new install of Mt Lion.

  • Why cant I edit My raw files from Canon 6D

Why cant I edit My raw files from Canon 6D.

It is difficult to know why because we don't know what version is your PSE and what is your operating system.
That aside, if your camera is fairly new then first try to update your software by going to:
    Help >> Updates
If this doesn't solve then it may be that your camera is not supported by your PSE (mainly 10 and before) and so you may need to use DNG conversion utility.  The latest version is 8.1 but unpaid MVPs here will tell you more about it.

  • I want to transfer all my iPhoto, iTunes, contacts, etc. files from my MacBook, which I am selling to a MacBook Pro. What is the easiest and safest method of achieving this? Can the files backed up on Time Machine be transferred to the Pro?.

I want to transfer all my iPhoto, iTunes, contacts, documents, etc. files from my MacBook, which I am selling, to a MacBook Pro. What is the easiest and safest method of achieving this? Can the files backed up on Time Machine from the MacBook be transferred to the Pro in some way? I would like to capture the files as they appear on the MacBook, such as "Events" in iPhoto and the various song categories within iTunes without having to rename them all once saved on the Pro, which is the case with photos when I simply save them to thumb drive and import them to the Pro. Sny advice would be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Rob.

    Michael,
Thanks for all your assistance. There is no need for apologies, Migration Assistant did indeed create a second account for the MacBook data. It has just taken me some time to figure out how to access it. I now have all the MB data in one account and the MBP files in another, which suits me fine. In fact, it is an advantage in my case as it keeps the private and business aspects separated.
I will however try the fatcatsoftware to transfer all the iPhoto files to my iMac, where I keep my main photo library. and it will be of help to keep the events, etc in the transfer. As far as iTunes is concerned, I have HomeSharing on all my computers and this has obviated the need to worry about playlists being transferred successfully. However, HomeSharing did not appear to share the iPhone/iPod apps that were stored on the MB and although these have now come across with the new MacBook account on the MBP, I was wondering whether my iPhone and iPod will be recognised by the MBP and sync with it? Will I need to have the MB account open to achieve this or will the MBP recognise and sync with the iPhone/iPod automatically irrespective of which account is open?
Thanks for the tip on deauthorising my iTunes account from the MB before sellng. This I will do and I believe the best way to remove all of my data from the hard drive is to reinstall the MacOSX operating system software. Is this the right approach to securely delete everything?
Thanks again for sharing your expertise and your guidance through this exercise.
    Best regards,
    Rob.

  • How do I transfer a music file from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone?

How do I transfer a music file from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone?

If you download Adode Reader (free but very limited) or GoodReader (many features) - you can use file sharing.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes. Select the iPad on the left side under Devices. Click on the Apps tab in the iTunes window on the right. Scroll down to the File sharing apps window. Click on the file sharing app that you are using (Adobe Reader or GoodReader in this example). Drag the document from the desktop onto the file sharing window on the right side - or click on the add button in the lower right corner - and navigate to where the file is on the Mac and select it that way.

  • How do I move my files from my Macbook to a pc?

How do I move my files from my MAcbook to my pc?

What operating system is the PC running?
You will need to turn on file sharing on the PC. For Windows XP use methods described here. Windows 7 here.
Connect to the shared Windows volume by going to the Go menu in the Finder and selecting Connect to Server... In the resulting dialog type smp:// and the IP address of your windows machine. Click Connect and enter your Windows machine's username and password when prompted.
The Windows share will now appear on your Mac's desktop. Drag the items you want to copy over to it.
    Best of luck.

  • Transfer iTunes files from old MacBook to new MacBook Pro

How do I transfer just my iTunes files from a MacBook to my new MacBook Pro?

The best bet is for you to transfer your iTunes library to the new Mac with the Migration Assistant. When you first fire up a Mac and it asks if you want to move your data, that’s one chance, but you can also set up the new Mac as pristinely new and use Migration Assistant later. Just launch it from the Utilities folder and tell it what you want to do—you can transfer your library over Wi-Fi, but if both Macs have a FireWire port, it’s much faster to connect them that way and use Target Disk Mode. (Start up the old Mac holding down T, which mounts it as an external drive on the new Mac for Migration Assistant to mine—but Migration Assistant walks you through the whole process.) Migration Assistant doesn’t have a setting specifically for iTunes, but if you migrate your user account’s Music folder, that’ll contain both your media and your library database, which stores those preferences you want to transfer.
Migrate your Music folder to your new Mac. (Which we obviously can’t do here because the MacBook Air is a few hundred gigs light…)
If you’d rather do it manually, first move the files in your home folder’s Music/iTunes/iTunes Media folder from the old Mac to the same location on the new Mac. Then export the iTunes Library database from your old Mac—go to File > Library > Export Library. Move the resulting XML file to the new Mac. Open iTunes, choose File > Library > Import Playlist and select that XML file.
Why not use Home Sharing within iTunes, you may wonder? I found out the hard way when recently combining songs from multiple laptops and external drives into one, new, started-from-scratch mega-library on my new iMac: Home Sharing is great for actually moving music, videos, and apps from one machine to another over the network, but it doesn’t move the metadata. My ratings and play counts were wiped out.
