Cant Achieve Native Monitor Resolution
I have an HP Elite H8-1240t with Intel HD Graphics and a 23" HPW2371d monitor with native resolution of 1920x1080. This monitor shipped with a VGA cable and adapter and it is plugged into a DVI port on desktop. I can only run the resolution at 1024x768. If I choose 1920x1080 it doesn't fit to screen. Can someone please explain what needs done to correct this.
If you are showing a "non-plug and play" monitor in the Windows device manger, I would guess is a problem with the "DDC-EDID" communictaion link between the computer and the monitor. Either the monitor isn't reporting, the computer isn't reading, or the link (cable) is damaged. If you have another monitor and/or computer and/or VGA cable, try swapping them around to determine where the issue is.
Examples...
1) HP Elite H8-1240t with different monitor
2) HP W2371d monitor with different computer
3) Repeat 1 or 2 with a different VGA cable
4) Try a different DVI-to-VGA dongle adapter with the HP Elite H8-1240t and HP W2371d monitor
5) Try a different VGA cable with the HP Elite H8-1240t and HP W2371d monitor
6) Try a different DVI-to-VGA dongle adapter and a different VGA cable with the HP Elite H8-1240t and HP W2371d monitor
If you can't identify the issue from the steps above, you may wish to manually set the Windows resolution to 1920 x 1080 and set the refresh rate to 59 or 60 Hz.

Hi,
I've bought this LCD TV for use mainly as a PC Monitor. It's currently at 1280x1024 but the text is too big & blurry and I've read that it would be much better in its native resolution of 1920 x 1080.
The PC is running Windows XP with standard "Plug and Play Monitor on INtel Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family." which only has a VGA output. I didn't have this resolution at first so I downloaded a driver [1] update 6.14.10.5016.
I now have 1920x1080 as an option on the Windows "Display Properties"/Settings but when I apply it, the TV overscans [2] with a huge area to the right hand side of the screen. The screen adjusts as I scroll right but I often miss pop ups from the Windows tray.
I tried to run PowerStrip [3] but the resolution keeps reverting to 1280x1024 (where no overscan occurs). And secondly the TV refused to power off and, although after a hard reset it is OK, I'm concerned about damaging it.
I'm willing to purchase a graphics card with a HDMI output but on reading page 18 of the HL833B spec [4] section "Acceptable PC signals through HDMI terminals" am now concerned that the maximum resolution I can get is only 1280x1024 (which is what I have now via VGA). There's another table where the maximum resolution from "Video HDMI" is the native resolution 1920x1080 (as expected).
Can anyone advise
1. Why is the max resolution of a PC signal through HDMI only 1280x1024 ?
2. Would buying a graphics card help to achieve 1920x1080 ?
Thanks !

Yes it can achieve native resolution ! I was about to give up when I found this;
http://www.hdtvreview.com/Toshiba-32HL833B-hdtv.html says that HL833B includes Extact Scan Mode
See page 34 for instructions
On remote control, press Quick, change picture size from "Normal" to "Native"
Simple as that. Now I'm happy -
Changing monitor resolution with proper aspect ratio
My project size is 800x600 and I wanted to provide an option to the user to change their monitor resolution at 800x600 by clicking on button. I have also planned to do it by using buddy api xtra, and already tested it. The problem is, when I am doing this on a PC with panoramic monitor (native resolution 1920x1080), it got stretched. I know it's very natural (as the aspect ratio has changed ) and I can get it in shape by squeeze the width using 'draw.rect'.
I noticed, there are some PCs with advanced display card that don't even get stretched, but shows the 800x600 resolution in proper aspect ratio by keeping the extra space black both sides. And I don't need to write any further codes (squeeze the width using 'draw.rect') to keep it in shape.
The real problem starts here, I can't able to filter the above situations by any logical means. I wanted to write codes only for the PCs that get stretched, but I didn't able to find any support from Director to determine which type of display card has been attached. I need to know whether it will get stretched, or the display card can able to manage the aspect ratio.
Any one have any solution in this matter?
Please don't hesitate to ask if you need any more info.Hello handler
If you talking about this kind of thing...
https://forums.adobe.com/message/5773207
search for..... _movie.stage.drawRect = _system.deskTopRectList[1] & _movie.stage.rect = _system.deskTopRectList[1]
You don't need an xtra to change the resolutions - but you do have to work a few things - I tend to use flash text because it scales better.

Secondary Monitor Resolution Dropped with Mavericks
After installing Mavericks (should have waited) my second monitor resolution has suddently dropped. It still claims to be 1080p but it is clearly not the same resolution as it was before and has been reduced.
So annoying.
Any ideas?Hi there,
the same for me too. I'm using an external monitor from NEC with a native resulition of 1920 x 1200.
The monitor is connected to a mac mini server from mid 2011 via HDMI.
In OSX 10.8 the OS automatically selected 1080p as the best resolution which was not correct but I could choose it manually from the list of scaled solutions.
In Mavericks the native solution of 1920 x 1200 has gone from the list. Only 1080p and 1080i are listed.
This is very annoying.
But:
If I activate my apple tv as a second screen (new feature in Mavericks) all resolutions that disappeared with Mavericks are here again and working fine including 1920 x 1200. As soon as I disable the second screen feature the resolutions fade away...
I just downloaded a command line tool for switching the resolution manually. This works until the machine is rebooted...
Any tips / hints? -
Howto set monitor resolution when I start with the monitor turned of ?
Hello,
I use the onboard Intel HD 4000 to display on my Dell monitor which works out of the box with native 2560x1600 resolution as long as I boot with the monitor turned on (both console and X11).
The problem is that sometimes I don't boot with the monitor being powered on and just need the monitor later.
I found in aur the program read-edid which gives me the needed info in case my monitor isn't powered at boot.
How could I use that information, for the console (I guess it's relared to grub2) and for X11 ?
Thank you very much !!!This is related to KMS.
Take a look in the wiki: Kernel Mode Setting: Forcing modes and EDID and Intel Graphics: KMS (Kernel Mode Setting) -
How do you determine correct monitor resolution
monitor resolution changes in system preferences is not restting the display back to correct resolution.
how do i determine the correct setting so the desktop image is not running off the sides of the screen?do you choose the "best for display" radio button ?
for me that set the correct resolution
of cause if you set it to mirror it will not be it's native resolution if the display it's mirroring is in a lower resolution -
I just bought a 20" widescreen monitor for my Powermac G4. I connected it and powered it up. So far so good. After my system finished booting (Mac OS 9.2.2), I went to set the resolution I wanted. I selected 1600x1024 (the only widescreen choice on the list).
The monitor displayed a message suggesting I set the size to 1680x1050 instead. I quickly figured out why. There are artifacts (text with distorted letters) at certain locations on the screen.
How do I add the HP native resolition to my list of choices in the Monitors Control Panel?
GaryThere won't be a native way to get the resolution, as that resolution didn't exist when the ROM for the graphics card was written.
Without a natively available resolution, a 3rd party option must be employed.
SwitchResX can give one custom controls and abilities to create custom resolutions.

My iMac 27" monitor is 2560 pixels wide but I run it on a screen resolution of 2048 x 1152. Would it be a waste for me to set the Lightroom Standard Preview Size to size to the setting of 2880? I am thinking I should set the Standard Preview Size to 2048 to save space on my hard drive. What do you think?
When I set my monitor to the native resolution the text on menus etc is pretty hard to see with my tired old eyes. Is there a disadvantage to using 2048 x 1152 on my 27" monitor when using Lightroom?DanATD wrote:

If I were you, I'd use Jeffrey Friedl's Online Lightroom Configurator to bump the font-size of the text, and leave the monitor resolution at 2560 (and standard previews at 2880). Unless of course you can't see image detail all that well either with the increased resolution. There may be some text that jf's configurator can't reach - dunno, but it may be worth a shot..
If bumping font size (and monitor rez) doesn't pan out, then the answer is yes: 2048 is sufficient resolution for standard previews, at a monitor rez of 2048. -
ACO monitor 2236vw Recently replace the hard drive in this desktop and upgraded to 8.1 at the same time. Now the monitor will not achieve the desired resolution. Have checked the monitor and the drivers are up to date. Control panel display adjustment only allow for two options which are well below the optimal 1908 x 1028 resolution. If I connect to my laptop everything works and looks great so it is a desktop issue. Went to HP support site and did the driver search and got two recommendations one for network and one for audio downloaded both. suggestions anyone?
thanks for the help. I had already done than and I still have the problem. The monitor driver is up to date and the monitor is working fine with other 8.1 machines, my laptop. I am sure that the integrated video card, ATI Radeon 3000 is the issue. I was trying to save a $ and use an older machine with a new hard drive but it looks like this will not work or at least is too much trouble I have already spent too much time messing with it I am going to buy a new machine today. thanks for your help.

Laptop: native monitor vs. external monitor
These days I usually switch on the laptop (an Asus Zenbook) when it is already plugged in to an external monitor. This causes the external monitor to be the *only* one to display anything -- which is fine most of the time, because that's precisely what I want. The problem is that, on the very few occasions when I need to revert back to the laptop's native monitor, I simply cannot make it display anything whatsoever -- unless I reboot the machine with the external monitor unplugged.
I've tried all the xrandr variations I could think (and google) of, and nada. Also, if I try doing it on KDE's System Settings, the resolution of the external monitor will change, but the native monitor will still be blank; and if I click "Identify Outputs", the identifiers for both monitors will be shown on the external one!! (albeit on slightly different locations). Here's the output of xrandr (external mon. plugged in, native disabled):

I cant get two monitors to work on one pc.
Does anyone know why i cant get two monitors working on one pc?
I have a HP P6 2000 UKM computer, running windows 7 and it has a DVI D socket as well as the standard VGA (which i am using for my primary monitor) I have got the right DVI to VGA adaptor and have followed various instructions to set up duel disply but every tutorial i have seen says use the multiple display option, but the option dropdown box is not there!
Iv'e tried two different monitors but he same problem. If my graphics card does not suport 2 monitors then why is there a DVI D socket?
Have never had this problem in the past!
Please help.
NobbyHi,
Please post the exact HP product number for your PC.
VGA is analog and DVI-D is digital. If you have two monitors then one of them needs to support a digital video signal if you want to use two monitors

My Mac mini no longer detects my monitor resolution
My Mac Mini has stopped being able to detect the resolution of my monitor, which is a 1680x1050 Acer widescreen. 1680x1050 is also no longer a choice of resolutions under 'Displays' in 'System Preferences' so I cannot select my monitor resolution manually. I suspect that there is a bug somewhere in a recent update which has broken support for my monitor. Is there an official channel by which I can report this bug? Has it been reported already? Is there an ETA on a fix? This renders my Mac more or less unusable.

Est. external monitor resolution
I am trying to set up a samsung syncmaster 191Tplus as an external monitor on my macbook from early 2008 running 10.6.8. When I plug it in, both screens flash (not just a flicker) as shown in this youtube video posted by someone else, but my problem is the same
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-Yz-Em2GU4.
I am using the mini-DVI to VGA adaptor. The resolution of the samsung is 1280x1024, which is not listed in my choice of display resolutions. Is this the cause? What can I do? I can't access settings to change anything after the monitor is connected, and I can't find settings for the external monitor before it is connected. Would using SwitchResX work to create a monitor resolution preset before plugging in the second monitor?OK, here is something to try. Go into System Preferences and select Displays. In the window that opens will be a checkbox for "Show displays in menu bar." Put a checkmark there and make it active. There should now be a little icon of an Apple display on the right side of the menu bar at the top of the screen. If you click on it, it will drop down and give you a short cut to different resolutions. There should be a checkmark next to the currently active resolution. Is it set to 1440 x 900? If not, set it there.
If you are still getting that message from the monitor, well, I don't think the Mac is lying about sending 1440 x 900. If the screen doesn't look right to you, try using the Auto Adjustment feature on your Viewsonic monitor. It could just be that the image needs adjusting. -
Hello,
I bought my mac mini today ( 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 - Intel Iris Graphics - OS X Yosemite ) I connected using the DisplayPort DVI cable to my Viewsonic vx992 monitor. I have been using this monitor for my Windows XP which used to give me 1280x1024 resolution.
When I connect the new Mac to my screen is work but I with poor monitor resolution .. It's 1280x1024 but poor not clear
I'v been used this monitor with Windows with the same resolution and the monitor resolution was excellent with Windows.
I connected the Mac with Samsung Smart TV via HD cable .. The monitor resolution is excellent
This is the converter that I used:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KB0EGC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF 8&psc=1
Now, I'm conflict .. Is the problem with the convert that I'v been used or from the monitor ??Hi IIIaass
I don't know if the screenshot will showing you the noise that I talk about ,, there is a little noise in the text for example .. I work for while on my monitor and I know the resolution quality and the clarity that should be,, and I don't want to buy new monitor then I discovered that the problem was from the Adapter.
Thanks again .. and please tell me what's the best HDMI converter to DVI if you know about it. -

The alert is coming from the Error Count Monitor that is part of the Hyper-V Management Pack Extensions (v 4.0.0.0)
I have tried looking in the Event Logs on the Host and there doesn't seem to be any storage related errors there. I am trying to establish if this is a false positive, why it is happening and if it is safe to override and ignore.
There is nothing on the Product Knowledge tab and nothing on the Alert Context other than what I have already mentioned (see below).
