Cant add still pictures from iPhoto

I am trying to add still pictures from iPhoto to a iMovie I am doing. I go to my media browser and click on photos. This brings up my iPhoto Library and albums. When I drag a photo into the time line, the clips move to make room, the photo appears in the time line, the default effect renders, but then a hear a beep, no message pops up and the picture disseapears from the time line. Any ideas??

Assuming you have iMovie 11 (also known as Version 9.0.4), here is how you do it. (If you have a different version, let me know. The instructions will be different).
First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then use this photo in Photoshop, Pixelmator, Acorn, or the app of your choice to add text.

Why can't I add pictures from iphoto to ebay?

I purchased Macbook Pro and I'm having a problem with iPhoto. I cannot move pictures from iphoto to ebay. I see the iphoto icon but it is grey and I cannot open it. Do you know why?

If it doesn't work, you can try to export the photos to a folder. Open iPhoto, select the photos you want to be in eBay and go to File > Export. Then, upload the photos to it

Cant not upload pictures from my SD card into FCE through canon xha1s firewire. Is there another way? The strange part is when I originally hooked my canon up to the Imac iphoto saw the camcorder as a device and I do not what has happen since then. I just bought the camcorder and would like to take advantage of the photo capabilities as well as the video. All help would be greatly appreciated.

The card video stuff will most likely load into iPhoto when you tranfer the stills. USB connection only.
The video on the card will be a highly compressed, small dimensioned format and won't work directly with FCE and not over firewire in any shape or form.
However, you could take the clips from iPhoto and convert them to an FCE freindly format such as the DV codec. Streamclip is a free application that can do the job.

Thank you Winston for a helpful response and for reminding me of something which I found nearly a year ago and then lost (in my mind) because I did not use it. I am grateful for a correct answer but it still only achieves part of what I wanted.
I can now choose my photos, decide how long they stay on screen and choose one of a variety of presentations. Two things I still can't do.
One is to get it to play the photos in the chronological order in which I have carefully set them in an album; it still tends to be random and repetitive. The other is that I cannot get any of them them to saty on screen for more than about 20 seconds. I guess this is all due to the way Apple TV is constructed.

I made a still picture from my movie. (which you can do in the old iMovie) but it won't let me drag it into iMovie08. The still picture shows up as a mp4. Is there a way to convert to jpeg? How can I make a picture out of a movie and have it work in iMovie 08? Thanks

You can, of course, convert an MP4 frame to a JPEG compressed PICT image file using any application have access to the QT conversion structure. But wouldn't it be easier to just create/copy a JPEG image from within iMovie '08?
1) Select the frame you want in the event window and move it to any iMovie '08 project using the "Add Still Frame to Project" context menu option.
2) Highlight the "still frame" segment now in the project window and select the "Reveal in Finder" context menu option.
3) Move/use the "revealed" JPEG image files as needed/desired or open it in the "Preview" application to save it in another image compression format to any "visible" drive location.

Well, since there is no function to export from iPhoto to these sites directly, here is a simple way how you can try it:
- create a folder on your desktop
- name it like "WalMart pics"
- open iPhoto
- resize it so you can still see the folder you just created
- select the pictures you want to send to the store in iPhoto and drag them onto the new folder
The folder now contains the pics you selected. Now go to the stores' websites and upload the pictures from that folder.
You might also use the "Share" option in iPhoto to get the photos into a folder, but I like the direct drag and drop better.

The pictures from iPhoto keep transferring, even though I have deleted the app. What to do?

Capturing still pictures from a digital camcorder

I use a Canon mini DV digital camcorder and want to capture some still pictures from the movies to place in a book I am doing in IPHOTO....is this possible?

If your canon mini dv camcorder is anything like mine then keep in mind that while shooting you have the option of taking great hi res images as well as continuous high quality video. You just have to make the extra effort to push the photo button if you happen to see a great shot. You can capture the image to an SD card most likely or to tape (I prefer SD Cards for still images).
Or as stated above already you can make your own still from the actual video footage (altho usually at a lower resolution).

Can you get a still picture from an iMovie video and import it into iPhoto as a photo?

To save a still frame from recent versions of iMovie 10., move playhead to frame that you want and select File - Share - Image. Enter name and location. I guess you can import the file into iPhoto from there (I don't use iPhoto myself).

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Since the new library gives you the same message log into another user account on your Mac and see if you can run iPhoto without getting that message. If you get that message there also a reinstall of iPhoto seems indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,
