Cant add transitions or Photos to timeline in FCPX v10.0.9

Edited a 6 min video made of 40+ photos with 2 audio tracks, 4 titles effects, etc. Was working fine, was able to transitions but then I all of a sudden I can no longer add anything, I cant drag photos into the timeline, nothing.
PS the I was redoing the project becuase the ngiht before it crashed when exporting and I had to force quit. When I rebooted the app it only had the version when I first started. I am really getting frustrated with the App.
Any assistance please.

Cant add titles or photos in a new project

Everytime i create a new project in imovie 09 and try and add a title (over black) or a photo, it doesn't add it! Help!

I am unable to add transitions to any clip unless it is on the main timeline. So if I want to add an image that crossfades on a different timeline, I am completely unable to do so. Any suggestions?

I have seen Youtube videos where they just drop it on the second or third timeline and it works like a charm, if I do it, it is only applying it to the main timeline. Any help would really be appreciated, I have spent close to 4 hours trying to find the solution to this with 0 success.

Not exactly true: the transition implies that the clips be in a storyline, but you don't need to create the storyline yourself.
If two connected clips are adjacent, you can add a transition. FCP X will *automatically* create a secondary storyline for you.
I am guessing that the problem the original poster may be because there is some interval between the two clips.
If that is not the problem: then the first thing to try is deleting preferences.

can you add transitions to entire timeline at once, or only a single transition between two individual clips, which then must be repeated throughout the entire timeline? It would save time to do entire timeline with one transition action.

As I show you in my book, you select several clips on your timeline at once and right-click, you will find the option to Add Default Transition to all.
You can set your Default Transition by right-clicking a transition in the Transitions panel.

Can't add transition to Quicktime import

I made a Quicktime movie in IMovie using a series of photos and then imported it to FCE. It's now sitting in the Timeline but I cannot add transitions to either end of it. Any thoughts?

If you come from iMovie, you're used to iMovie making transitions by shortening the adjacent shots, taking a bit off each of them to create an overlap for the transition to occur. This incidentally shortens your sequence and possibly pulls things out of alignment with your audio, but that's a problem for iMovie users to deal with.
In FCE and FCP and all other professional editing applications, the overlap is not taken from inside the shot; it's taken from extra material, called handles in FCE, that lie beyond the end of the shot. So if you put a shot in a sequence that uses all the available media for that shot, that is you marked the out point on the very last frame, there are then no handles for the application to extend the shot and create the necessary overlap to make the transition, and the transition will fail.
For the default one second transition you need at least 15 more frames after the marked out point of the outgoing, and 15 more frames in front of, before the marked in point on the incoming shot. That will give you enough material for the default centered on edit, one second cross dissolve or whatever transition you're adding.

Error message when trying to add transitions

can't add transitions in imovie 6, but I could 2 days ago. It was also failing to render titles.I tried these suggestions from this great forum: trashed iMovie prefs,repaired permissions, checked for 3rd party plug-ins, ran repair hard disk,ran MacJanitor, reinstalled imovie 6,freed up 28 GB on hd, but still couldn't render titles. After I ran diskWarrior, I was able to render titles again but still can't add transitions.Is the number of photos or titles an issue? I have 450 and still need to add video clips & music. I have to have this idvd project for our church done in 3 days and things keep screwing up!

What is your operating system? Reader version?

You don't say which version of the program you're using but, in version 10, if you select several media clips on the timeline at once, you can right-click and select the option to Add Default Transition between them all. (You can also designate any transition as the Default Transition.)
You can also use the Slideshow Creator in the Media panel to apply the Default Transition between any stills you've gathered to create a slideshow from.
And, if you create your slideshow in the Elements Organizer (prior to sending it to Premiere Elements), you can select the option to add random transitions between your slides.

Cant open pages/I photo/I movie/Keynotes and Numbers anymore

Dear All
After cleaning my mac with the program clean my mac (http://macpaw.com/), I cant open pages/I photo/ I movie/Keynotes and Numbers anymore. The icons are still in the bar below, but with a with a crossed circle.
I took my macbook (Mac Os 10.6.8) to the apple store and they recommended me to reinstall MacOSX again (which I did). Afterwards i reinstalled application and I life.
With the the small success that I can open the system prefernces again but not the other programs mentioned above.
Any tips?

Thanks for the info. I will add one item to my blacklist.
I would backup my datas,
wipe out the HD
reinstall on the clean HD
restore my datas
and after that, everything would behave flawlessly.
Oops, I forgot to say : before wiping the HD, check that you have the iWork registration code available somewhere if you **** bought an iWork license (not a Dvd).

Unable to add transitions fcpx 10.1.4

I am unable to add transitions in fcpx 10.1.4. Haven't used the program in a while and today it is not working properly. I cannot add a dissolve or wipe between two clips even though there is plenty of available media on both sides of the edit. If I drop a transition on it gives me the error that I don't have enough media available even though my default transition rate is 10 frames and there are 10 seconds of media on either side of the edit.
I am able to add transitions from the Objects folder, i.e. Leaves, Curtains, etc. I can also drop a dissolve onto one of those transitions to replace it. I just can't get it to take a dissolve or wipe to begin with. I have deleted my footage from the timeline, closed FCPX and re-opened, but no luck. Have not had this problem before.

Are there transition rates that just won't work? If I dropped in a transition that was a second long, then dragged it down to some smaller rate like .10 would it respond like it does now? Not sure why some of the Object transitions are working at that preset of .10.

Can i add transitions to imovie11 aside from the ones that are already there?

you need to have the same computer the same folder where you put your pictures like a folder on your Desktop on a mac or a pc.
But if you wan't to have your pictures on your iPod cache folder select the checkbox below, it's Include Full resolution photos, by clicking that, the photos you'll put on your iPod will have a copy on a folder of your iPod i.e.
When using win xp:
Find your iPod on my computer: "Steve's iPod"-> open it-> go to Photos-> Full Resolution-> then continue opening folders (it's safe) until you see your Photo copies.
It's a great way of moving it from another computer, like just using copy, cut, paste

Daily Help A Newbie Thread: Full MiniDV tape to FCP & add Transitions

Yes, it's another one of those questions, but honestly, I've RTFM, and searched the discussions here. Nothing works as it's supposed to. (Must be me, right?) Well, I'm turning to the pros.
Goal: Take a full hour's worth of my newborn girl that's on MiniDV from a Canon ZR85 and get it into FCP, add some transitions, and then export to send to the Grandma's.
Problem: I can't seem to add transitions at all. The cursor changes to an arrow with a little 'x' in the lower right corner.
Problem Notes:
--Ok, so I can sorta add transitions, but not with two clips or subclips snapped to each other in the same video layer. It will allow say, a default cross fade to the end of one clip, while clip 2 is in another layer (V2). So the visual response is the same, but it should work with clips in the same layer.
--I can put playhead snapped to the joint between two unedited clips, and right click to add 'transition cross dissolve', but the transition ends up only being 1 frame in duration. And double-clicking on it to bring it into the viewer doesn't allow me to edit the duration.
--I can however, drop in a Bars and Tone generated object, and say a caustics object. Then I can add and edit the transition to my heart's content.
Method:
1. tape in, cam to play, cables set up
2. FCP set to Format: all formats / rate: all rates / Use: DV-NTSC
3. open capture dialog and (for simplicity's sake) use Capture Now
4. a 13+ GB .mov file is made on the scratch disk, an external FW drive with plenty of space
5. I then use the Mark > Detect DV start/stop to get the markers in clip
6. select all the markers, and use Make Subclip
7. All subclips show up as "segment of videoclip I just imported n" with the little clip icon with jagged edges.
8. Add a couple (of 41) subclips to the timeline. So far so good. They play and sound as expected.
9. But then I go for a simple transition, cross dissolve and try to drag it into the time line. All I get is the the arrow with the little x.

****, I think I just answered my own question. Yeah...huh...RTFM...Ok, here goes, see if this is what you would tell me...
1. drop in say two subclips.

3. i have to drag the second clip (the one on the right) to the LEFT such that there is enough "overlap" so the transition covers enough on both clips for the desired duration....
That is clip 1 is 30 seconds. Clip 2 is 60 seconds. End to End won't work. But if I move clip 2 (with the select tool) back say 5 seconds. Then I can add a 10 second transition. (overkill yes, but it's an example.)

a) Even when I Log and Capture, it always gives me the pre-post roll error message. I have turned that preference to zero, but have the same results. But OK, I can deal with that, so I did the Capture Now and manually started the vidcam.

You need "handles" for transitions.
The length of the transition determines the length of the handle
The default is one second so you need 15 extra frames on clip "A" and 15 extra frames on clip "B"
So you need to do what you've already learned and trim back your clips to make room for your transisitons.
This is the quick expanation, check the manual or do a search on this forum for "handles" and you can get a more in-depth version.

FCP Auto-Add Transitions to all audio clips

This is the second time this has happened. I've upgraded to Final Cut Pro 7. Something is triggering an auto-add transition to every audio sequence on my timeline. The only way to avoid it is to click undo until it goes away. With a huge deadline tomorrow I have already pressed undoe a 100 times but it will still not go away. Auto-save goes back 3 hours ago with this preset still on. This means I am doomed to erase each transition individually on a show with many tracks. It's not apparent in my preferences.
I haven't figured out how to disable this new feature and need help to avoid this mess in the future.

Can't Add Transitions/All Clips Stacked in one Box in Sceneline

Help-
I'm a total newbie with Premier Elements 7, but I'm about ready to throw a brick through my monitor.
I'm in Sceneline, and when I drag clips, they all get stacked on top of one another in the left box. I can't add transitions (I can find them, but when i drag them onto the transition arrows nothing happens).
What is the trick to dragging clips into new entries on the Sceneline?

The audio format (stereo or 5.1 surround sound) of your video does not match the audio format of the project preset you selected. In Timeline mode the first three tracks are reserved for the audio format determined by the project preset. If you use another audio format it will be placed on track 4. When this happens you can not see the clips in Sceneline mode... they are stacked as you are seeing.
Solution is to either use Timeline mode or if you wish to use Sceneline mode you have to use the correct project preset. HOWEVER... PE7 only supports 5.1 audio in AVCHD high definition projects... so if you have standard definition with 5.1 audio you have no choice other than to use Timeline mode. If you want to do any serious editing you will really need to use this mode anyway.

When i add a media to my timeline it playbacks shorter than it is

when i add a video to my timeline it shows as either empty on the timeline or shorter than what the actual length of the video
when i add photos from that are im my iphoto it different it shows up on the timeline but the preview of the photos are all the same even if i add other ones from the same event and when i play it back nothing shows up on the preview screen i tried it playing it on fullscreen but the screen is black but the playhead is moving from picture to picture. this started happening i upgraded to lion when i had snow leopard it was working fine also to give you guys more details the little pulldown window comes and says that it is importing. here is a picture of the program when i open it i looks different now

Shared photostream cant add subscriber

i can receive shared photostream invites, but cant create my own, well cant create one, but cant add subscribers why?

Can the RECIPIENT of a shared photo delete that photo from the Shared Photo stream on THEIR device or can only the ORIGINATOR OF THE SHARED PHOTO remove the shared phot by deleting it from the originating device? In case I have not described the issue properly here is the situation. I wish to share photos that I take on my iPhone 5 with my wife's iPad 2. She wants to be able to delete those photos from her iPad after she has viewed them. I can not figure out how to delete my shared photos directly from her iPad except by deleting them from the Shared Photos my iPhone.
