Cant apply superscript or subscript on opentype font (mac snow leopard/CS4)

For some reason when I try to apply the subscript or superscipt (or any style) on CS4 using snow leopard it does not seems to work properly.  For some fonts, it works for some characters (mostly numbers).
Is this an issue with incomplete fonts?

Opentype fonts is a set of characters and specifications...You mentioned right. Some opentype fonts can contain for example ligatures, glyphs or adittional specifications. Some open type fonts can contain subscript or superscript as glyphs, and others do not.
To paracially solve your problem, have you already tried to set a "faux" subscript or superscript?

    many thanks Carl.

You must boot from another drive in order to erase the system drive.
Try starting up with Snow Leopard DVD inserted and C depress. That should get you booted from the DVD. Then start Disk Utitlity from DVD and erase the disk then you should be able to install Snow Leopard.
Remember that everything will be removed from the disk when you erase it and install Snow Leopard so backup first.

  • Photoshop not seeing fonts after Snow Leopard upgrade

This is probably elementary but since changing to Snow Leopard I had to copy fonts into the InDesign fonts folder to access to more than a limited range. However, I am having same problem with Photoshop but don't know how to fix this as I can't find a fonts folder. I am using CS3. Any thoughts?

"So, you're saying that the only way to install snow leopard is to do a clean install and not an upgrade? If so, that would be a horrible horrible thing."
I'm not saying performing fresh installs from scratch is the only way, just the only smart way.
Yeah, it's a pain and takes more time but I'd rather spend the time up front than wasting time tracking down frustrating problems down the road. A healthy OS is vital to a smooth running system - everything lives or dies by the OS. I want to be sure nothing gets in the way of it running as best as it can. Simply replacing bits here and there and leaving old prefs, caches and miscellaneous crud in place via the Upgrade method instead of starting from scratch is a recipe for problems, IMO. It's like painting a bathroom with mold problems. The easiest, fastest way is to simply paint over the mold - it will look fine for a while, but of course the problem is still there. There are no shortcuts.
If nothing else, a fresh install gives you piece of mind that the OS install is not a suspect when problems develop.
As I said, I'm not experiencing any slowness (or crashing), at all. In fact, PSCS4 seems more stable in 10.6 than 10.5. In Leopard, CS4 would frequently crash on me (CS3 was rock solid). I haven't experience a single crash in SL/CS4 - not even the stupid crash-after-quitting that was as regular as clockwork.
If you want to continue to troubleshoot your problem (which sounds fairly severe), I'd suggest running the very latest version of DiscWarrior. Personally, I know what I'd do. ;-)

  • Cant scroll anymore.... since loading on snow leopard

When in the View mode (thumbnails) I cant scroll either with Bar or Fastfoward. This has happened since I loaded Snow Leopard last week ! Cant anyone help ?

I am having the same issue. If I have a photo selected, I can't scroll thru the pictures and click on multiple photos. If I click in between photos then I can scroll. As soon as I choose a single photo scrolling by the mouse or keyboard quits working. I have the latest of all software versions. This makes exporting multiple photos too much of a pain.

  • Why is it photoshop CS4 worked flawlessly with my fonts in Snow Leopard, but are making CS6 crash in

I transferred all of the fonts starting with 'A' into font book and all of them had either a yellow or red dot next to them. They all worked fine in photoshop CS4. What gives? Will Adobe fix this and make them compatable? I have a fortune invested in fonts I'm not about to toss. What are Adobe and Apple going to do about this? Who's issue is it really? I am not the only one having his issue.
    Thank you for any input.

And what fonts exactly? If you're using fonts from the stone age this may be unavoidable. Beyond that a single "bad" font can drag down Adobe apps, which does not necessarily have to be the one you use currently. It's mere existance and PS stumbling over it when populating the fonts list would be enough... The rest is in the details, but as always, start by removing all your fonts and adding them only back on an "as needed" basis. and if you realyl have that many fonts, using a font manager might be advisable to keep lists neat and tidy...

  • Missing fonts in snow leopard

I have a new macbook pro up to date with updates, etc and have been using it very happily.
I use iworks and have found that a whole raft of fonts that were previously used by me are no longer even shown in the fonts options.
I have searched the internet and fora a lot an found that people have similar problems but have found no definitive answer as yet.
Could someone please point me in the right direction?
This is the last kind of problem I would have expected.

  • DW menu item font problems Snow Leopard

I am having a problem in Dreamweaver with the font used for menu items. Out of PS, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver this is the only Adobe program where this problem is evident. I have tried many resolutions on the computer such as clearing font casche, diabling fonts, changing font charastics within DW, installing the latest PS font patch from apple, etc. If anyone has anything I can try to resolve this problem I would appreaciate it.

I've been using Lion since it's release, it's fine.  Don't know what's holding you back.
Did you take a higher res screenshot and run it through what the font?  From a glance I'm guessing at Conceilian outline, White Wolf.  And upgrading won't solve this problem because the font will still reside on the system.  An OS upgrade does not remove your custom fonts. It's going to be a process but you might just have to go through every outline font on your system.

  • Font problem with MX under Snow Leopard

Anybody know what might cause an app built with Director MX not to display an installed (not embedded) custom font under Snow Leopard?
The program was built quite some time ago but was tested under previous Mac OS X.x versions and worked fine. What might have changed that could cause this problem?
Complicating this is that I don't have Snow Leopard myself to test it directly, but here's what I do know:
The font is definitely installed and available to other apps.
Everything else about the app works fine.

I noticed the same jumbled text problem.
When I went to look at Font Book, I see that those fonts are no longer installed. It must've happened when I loaded Snow Leopard last weekend.
Anyway, I went to reinstall fonts, and I see I've got a bunch that got uninstalled. But when I try to reinstall them, like Calisto and Caligula to name the first couple I tried, Font Book reports that there were serious errors when trying to load them.
Does anyone have insights into the vague message: "System Validation" as the serious problem? I don't see a way to get more details about the problem than that.

  • How do I change caps of an OpenType font to small caps in my InDesign cc document?

Greetings, Community. It would be great if I could discover how to change caps of an OpenType font to small caps in my InDesign cc document. That's the simple question.
To be more exact, I have an 18-page play that contains stage directions in caps in parentheses, which I would like to change to small caps. The font I'm using is an OpenType, Minion Pro, with small caps.
Another thing is, I'd ideally like to be able to do that without changing all caps in the document, and also, to not have to convert the caps to lower case in order to do it.
My source document (which I Placed in my InDesign document) is Microsoft Word 2011 for Mac.
I did go to Microsoft to find out how to do it in Word, but could only find a solution for Word for Windows.
I did try their solution anyhow (a macro) but it didn't work.
Thanks a lot. It's great being in InDesign even though I had my good years with QuarkXpress, which eventually became impossible for me.

    Hi Folks
I'm trying to embed an OpenType font into a Flash Builder Beta 2 project and haven't been successful yet.
    What I've tried so far:
    1. changing the order of the font managers in the flex-config.xml file, to put the one that handles OpenType first:
    <manager-class>flash.fonts.AFEFontManager</manager-class>
    2. in the .css file for the main mxml file, changing   embedAsCFF: true;  to embedAsCFF: false;
    3. embedding the font using a .swf file containing the font made in Flash CS3, and referencing that in the .css file
    4. embedding the font in <fx:Script/> using [embed]. Got an error message on the src line (Embed is only supported on classes and member variables.)

  • OpenType font won't work in PDF created from PM 7.0.1a file

Per my client's request, I had to purchase a lovely new OpenType font, AJenson Pro, for a book project I'm paging using PageMaker 7.0.1a in Windows XP. First it wouldn't print on my postscript HP laser printer, but downloading an updated printer driver from the HP web site easily fixed that problem. But I have done everything I can think of and I can't get the new font to appear in a .pdf created using Acrobat Distiller 5.0.5, which came bundled with PageMaker.
The font shows up in the finished .pdf as boxes with X marks in them instead of letters! I'm not trying to use anything but standard characters (no glyphs, etc.) in the font. I've been using PageMaker and creating .pdf files in Acrobat Distiller 5.0 for years and have had no problems until I got this new font. Adobe Type Manager shows that it is installed and it looks great on the screen.
I purchased the entire AJenson Pro font family from MyFonts.com, so I have bold, bold ital, etc. Their technical support couldn't suggest anything I hadn't already tried.
I'm planning on upgrading my PageMaker to InDesign soon, but I'll need a new computer to meet the minimum system requirements so I've been putting it off. I'm afraid to even download the free 30-day trial on my older computer. Any suggestions on how to get this OpenType font to work in a .pdf created using PM 7.0.1a and Acrobat Distiller 5.0, or do I have to upgrade to InDesign right away? I need to be able to create a .pdf so I can e-mail proofs to my client and eventually to send the finished book to a commercial printer. Thanks!

I have had this same problem myself with most Open Type fonts. It's very irritating, because it seems like most of the new fonts are being issued exclusively in Open Type.
I have developed a work-around, which you can attempt at your own risk.
Purchase the software FontCreator (I use FontCreator 5.6 Home Edition). It's not very expensive.
Open the problem font in FontCreator, and save it with a different name. In the process of saving it, the font will be converted to a TrueType font. Install the new version of the font. In my experience, you can then successfully use the font in Pagemaker, and convert it to a pdf.
This is not a perfect solution because there will be a *very* slight diminishment in the crispness of the lines of the font -- but this is only visible when the font is magnified to something like 6400% in Acrobat. It is not visible to the naked eye, or at least not to my naked eye.
