Cant authorise Digital Editions

Hi. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium ver 6.1 and I can’t Authorise Digital Editions 2.01. Keep getting Error: “could not connect to the activation server”. I am connected to the internet. I already have an Adobe Account which I can access OK. Shockwave is already installed. Tried previous version Digital Editions (1.7?), but that did not work either. Have clean de-installed – pulling out all the “junk items” using Revo uninstaller. Then re-installed Shockwave then re-installed Digital Editions 2.01 as Administrator. Using Ctrl+Shift+D does not bring up a De-Authorise Dialog Box. Registry won’t allow me to delete the key in Adept. Can’t see anything in Task Manager that might be using the Key. I don't really know where to go from here. Thanks.

Sorry for posting a wrong URL. Firewall, anti-virus, and proxy software can intercept the activation request from Adobe Digital Editions to the activation server. You try the below steps to confirm whether you are able to connect the activation server.
Choose Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall.
Do one of the following:
Windows Vista, Windows 7: In the sidebar, select the option for Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall. Click Allow Another Program.
Windows XP: Select the Exceptions tab. Click Add Program.
From the Add A Program menu, select Adobe Digital Editions.
Approve the prompts that appear to complete the process.
To test the firewall settings, go to http://adeactivate.adobe.com/. If you see a page that says "Welcome to Digital Editions," your machine can now connect to the activation server.

  • Unable to authorise digital editions

I use digital editions to read books from my public library. Suddenly when it was downloading a borrowed book it gave my an error as follows: "Connection error detected - Digital Editions could not connect to the fulfillment server. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet". The internet is fine so I uninstalled Digital Editions and re-installed it. When I tried to authorize it it gave me the same error as above. I contacted my library who said I should switch my firewall off and try again. Did this and unfortunately it didn't help. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

OK- I was given the answer by a user on another forum, For anyone else - I must have had some kind of information on the PC that made Adobe think I had an activation already (despite the fact that I've never used Digitial Editions before) so running the "erase authorisation" first did the trick, seems you need to do this the first time you setup an account even if you haven't had an account before.

THe e_auth_not_ready can be fixed by deleting your authorization (yes you have one even though it doesn't show) and then reauthorizing. After launching ADE hit CONTROL+SHIFT+D and say yes to delete authoriztion. Then go back in and reqauthorize your computer. You may want to also connect any devices and delete and reauthorize them.
I found this in one of the forums.

    Ms. Potter, Greetings
You hve probably figures this out for your self but incase you didn't.
I had the same problem, I tried everything I could think of except one.
I had to call Literati to get answer.  I said all that to let you know that some times the simplest of answers misses us all.
Turn your Literati on.  Select either I'm reading or Library. Plug the adapter cord into your reader FIRST. Then plug your adapter cord into the computer.
Then every one is happy and the equipment is shaking hands perfectly.

  • Why Adobe digital Edition does not accept my Adobe ID for authorisation my Computer?

Hello, who has experience in this question?

Most like answer is my first below.  Second added as a possible solution if the first doesn't work.
    1) ~~~~~
Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0

There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

  • How can I properly and COMPLETELY uninstall Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 from my Mac?

OK, so yeah, I *SHOULD* have known better...
A few months back, against my better judgement and without doing the proper due diligence, I tried installing Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 onto the primary drive of my MacBook Pro (running MacOS 10.6.8).
    The tell-tail signs:
    PROBLEM #1
While there IS readily available "Tech Specs" documentation for the current Adobe Digital Editions v4.0.1 installer for MacOS (which clearly states "Mac OS X v10.8 or later" is REQUIRED), there is absolutely NO indication or similar documentation for supported system software for PREVIOUS versions of Adobe Digital Editions.
    Reference URL:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions/downloads.html
    PROBLEM #2a
Adobe Digital Editions v3.0 for MacOS comes as an installer (which REQUIRES admin authentication to provide root-level access to your computer).
    PROBLEM #2b
Adobe "Digital Editions 3.0 Installer" is FULLY launchable under MacOS 10.6.8 (and the installed application will require MacOS 10.7 or later).
    PROBLEM #2c
There is NO associated ("ReadMe" type) support document included on the "ADE_3.0_Installer.dmg" disc image and ZERO integrated documentation within in the installer.
    PROBLEM #2d
There is NO Adobe "Digital Editions 3.0" UNinstaller either installed as part of the "Standard" installation package OR currently downloadable from Adobe.com.
    PROBLEM #3
Adobe's ONLY MacOS solution to "Uninstall previous versions [prior to the current v4.0] of Adobe Digital Editions for Mac OS" are the following instructions:
It's necessary to have administrator privileges to complete these steps.
      1. From your user directory, locate /Applications
      2. Drag the digitaleditions1x5 folder to the Trash, and empty the Trash.
    Reference URL:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
    PROBLEM #4
Adobe's "What are my contact options?" page indicates BOTH "Chat (within 90 days of registration)" and "Forums" as available "Basic Support" options for Adobe "Digital Editions" software for "Download, install, setup" help, however, "Forums" is the ONLY available choice under "Contact options" for on Adobe's "Contact Customer Care" page (for "Download, install, setup" help with Digital Editions).
    Reference URL:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?step=ADE_downloading-installing-setting-up_s tillNeedHelp
    PROBLEM #5
The ONLY available "Basic Support" option for "How-to's & troubleshooting" help is the Adobe Forums...and this is an example of the type nonsense response (then followed by NON-response) that one might receive there:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6570142
[NOTE:  After MUCH searching I did, however, manage to find a potentially interesting "Let us know how we’re doing" link (under the "Our support promise" link found on the "What are my contact options? page).  I am going to send them a brief message along with a link to THIS post and hope for the best.]
    Reference URL:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact/what-contact-options.html
    PROBLEM #6
While I did NOT realize this prior to my attempting to install Adobe Digital Editions, apparently it would require me to "activate" my computer with an Adobe ID.
[NOTE:  This information IS included in the readily accessible FAQ (and I am sure it's also found in the installer integrated software "License"), however, this is a MAJOR "feature" of this software and could be presented MUCH more prominently as an installer integrated "ReadMe" screen.]
    Reference URL:
    http://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/faq.html
...and, as an added bonus, there is a SIGNIFICANT "spyware" issue with this software discussed in further depth here:
    http://the-digital-reader.com/2014/10/06/adobe-spying-users-collecting-data-eboo k-libraries/
As an experienced and life-long Mac user, I really SHOULD have known better and I did have second thoughts almost immediately, but by then it was TOO LATE!!!
So, now I have this TOTAL crap, super duper DRM software that required root-level permission to install (AND I couldn't even run this installed v3.0 copy under my preferred MacOS 10.6.8 if I wanted to...but, of course, I now have ABSOLUTELY NO desire to ever use this software again), and I just want to COMPLETELY remove all traces of it from my computer!
A pretty thorough Google search yielded several so-called "solutions" that were as bad or EVEN worse than the very limited "official" resources found directly from Adobe!
Any actual, real working solutions would be VERY greatly appreciated!
Thank you SO MUCH for your time and consideration in reading!!!
    Sincerely,
    aadams77

Hmm, it shouldn't be that much of a problem. I searched my entire drive for "digital editions", and this is the whole thing:
    /Applications/Adobe Digital Editions 3.0.app
    /Users/user/Library/Caches/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app
    /Users/user/Documents/Digital Editions
    /Users/user/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app.plist
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app.bom
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.DigitalEditions.plist
The application itself, three small files scattered in your user account, to unimportant installation receipt files, and another preference file in the root Library folder. Removing those should remove everything related to version 3, which is what I have installed.
Where I substituted "user" above (for the three entries of /Users/user/...), replace that with whatever the actual name of your user account is.
Edit: I double checked the installer using a small app that sorts out every file in an installer, and where each item would normally be installed. The main app is literally the only item in the installer. The receipts are created by the OS per the installer's data, and the other minor preference files are created when the app is first run. There is nothing else.

  • Can no longer see my purchased books in Adobe Digital Edition software

Because my purchased books are no longer listed on my Adobe Digital Edition software, they can no longer be downloaded into my E-Reader (due to Rights protection).  I do not understand why they disappeared from the Purchased list.  I would like Adobe to Re-install into my purchased list all my purchased books.  Would like some help with that.

Very nice device the PRS-350, my wife and I both have them.
Not exactly sure how much you have updated, so some of these comments may not be to the point ....
Copying to the Sony should have worked as long as it is still registered with the ID used when you bought the books.
Maybe the Sony lost its registration when you did Sony updates, and you need to reregister it?
Nothing will work with a different ID; you can change the email address assocated with the old ID,
but can't read books with a device registered with a different ID or transer them to a new ID.
Probably when you updated your software ADE lost its repository.
Adobe does not remember your books in any 'cloud' associated with your ID,
the ID is just used to unlock the files you still have that are associated with the ID.
Try opening the books on the USB on ADE (ctrl-O, menu/File/Add to Library).
They should then appear again in the ADE library and you should be able to copy to the Sony (assuming registrations all correct).
Or, if you want the books always available on the computer even without the USB,
copy from USB to computer, then use ADE to open the copies on the computer.
If ADE won't read the books either it is probably not correctly registered (with the original ID).
One possibility is that ADE got confused about registration when you reinstalled (it often does).
    See ***1 note at end.
Also, there is a bug in ADE2.0/2.0.1 that means they Sony devices won't work with library books on that ADE release.
If you want to use library books, use the older more reliable version of ADE.
    See ***2.
    Good luck.

  • Unable to install ADOBE Digital Edition 2.0.1 on Windows 7

    Hi
My current installation of Windows 7 contains Framework NET 4.0 Full.
    It is up-tp-date with this.
I'm unable to install ADOBE Digital Edition 2.0.1 on this system, because
of the prerequisite required to install this packege.
ADOBE Digital Edition 2.0.1. requires NET 3.5 on Windows 7 (and this is old/outdated today).
When will ADOBE Digital Edition 2.0.1 install on Windows 7 with NET 4?
Any other ideas to get this up and running?
    Thanx

You can install the different versions of .NET at the same time, and that is what you need to do for quite a few programs.
Microsoft don't make them upward compatible.
You could install the older v1.7.2 instead, much more relaible and I don't think (not sure) it as .NET requirement.

  • Digital Editions 2.0.1 crashes in Windows 8

I have run Digital Editions 1.7.2 for a couple of years, easily accessible from my PAID Acrobat Pro, on several PAID publications.
I am running Windows 8 on a Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 Touch under Windows 8 Pro x64.  I have tried using the updated version 2.1.  It seems to install fine, but it crashes every time I start it.  I had the same problem on my previous Lenovo Yoga 13 under Windows 8 Pro.  I see several similar complaints in a Google search.
What's happening with the updates?  Does Adobe recognize this problem??  This is supposed to include security updates to 1.7 ....  I purchased books tied to ADE.
    P.S.
I got a call from ADE Support:  They admit this problem in Windows 8 and are working on a fix for the next version.

Here is a secure download for 1.7.2; which has been working fine for me on Windows 8/8.1.

As an aside: I prefer ADE1.7.2 to 2.0/2.0.1, as it is much less bug ridden.
The particular bug that really hits me is that ADE2.0 will not work with library books when my Sony PRS-350 is plugged in.
Nevertheless, apart from the bugs, ADE2.0/2.0.1 have worked for me on Windows 8/8.1

  • Adobe digital edition 2.0 not openned

    Hello All,
In windows xp serivce pack-2, ADE 2.0 is working perfectly for few days only, but after few days ADE 2.0 is not opening. I dont know why it is not opening? Can anyone tell me reason behind this?
If RUN>>MSCONFIG>GENERAL>DIAGNOSTIC STARTUP - LOAD BASIC DEVICES AND SERVICE ONLY > APPLY > OK and restarting the system then the ADE 2.0 is opening.
If RUN>> MSCONFIG>GENERAL>NORMAL  STARTUP - LOAD ALL DEVICE DRIVERS AND SERVICES > APPLY > OK and restarting the system then the ADE 2.0 is NOT opening.  As you people are well aware that we cannot use the diagnostic startup since it will allow basic service and devices only.
I have tried the following methods to overcome this issue (from internet)
    1. Uninstall Adobe Digital Editions using one of these two methods:
Start > Programs > Adobe > Adobe Digital Editions > Uninstall
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs
    2. Initiate Uninstall
    3. In order to remove all remnants of Adobe Digital Editions /  Adobe Adept from the machine a "Registry Edit" will need to be  performed:
    Start > Run > Regedit
    4. Search for HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Adobe > Adept and Delete the full "Adept" folder
    5. Remove only the structures that are under the "SOFTWARE"  extensions. This will remove the Adobe ID / License and Activation Keys
    6. Clear any outstanding tasks that may be associated to Adobe  Digital Editions downloads
    C:\data\my digital editions
    C:\my documents\my digital editions
    7. Delete any documents within these folders:
    Restore > Tasks
    Restore > Failed
    8. Re-install Adobe Digital Editions
    9. I have updated Windows xp from SP2 to SP3
The above methods didn't helped me to solve this issue. Then, i have used DIAGNOSTIC STARTUP and safe mode, it was opened, but not in normal user mode.
    Thanks,
    Mano.A
