Cant back up ios8 devices to itunes

I have tried doing a manual back up of my ipad and iphone to my windows 8.1 machine, and the back up will not save. The back up is not listed in the preferences>devices tab and it seems to take a very short amount of time to back up. There are no error messages or anything like that. The back up just seems to not exist. I am using itunes 12.0.1.26 and ios8.1 on an ipad mini w/ retina display, an iphone 5 and an iphone 6. None of these devices will back up. I can back up fine on a different windows machine. Any help would be appreciated. thank you

Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like a couple devices that will not backup to iTunes. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

You can also try to backup to iCloud.

I don't have a large library of music on my iPhone 4s since I've only had it since Oct 2012, but since the update to iTunes 11 in early December, my album artwork has been all messed up. Removed mac from devices in itunes in the cloud (get it back?)

in my acct. in the itunes store i accidentally removed my mac from "manage devices", under itunes in the cloud. my iphone is still listed. for the life of me i cant figure out how to add my mac back. i can't seem to find anything to give me a clear and easy answer. any help would be appreciated, thank you.

As long as your Mac is authorized for the Apple ID (in Store>Authorize This Computer), I believe all you would need to do is either:
Download a previous purchase for the ID in iTunes
Subscribe to iTunes Match using the ID; or
Sign into the iTunes store with the ID, then enable Automatic Downloads in iTunes>Preferences>Store
Any of these should automatically add your Mac to the list of devices that are authorized to download from iTunes in the Cloud. The only restriction would be if you were trying to change IDs and it had been less than 90 days since it was first associated with the ID (i.e., there is a 90-day wait period before you can switch IDs: see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627).

I think there is bug in the new itunes, i tried almost everything can't figure out why its showing the secure link to itunes has failed !!! :( i am very upset because of it.. it is giving me hard time cant even backup my device....i tried everything :((((

almost tried everything....reinstalling ....32 bit 64 bit.. itunes. msconfig. antivirus disabling.... full antiviurs scan, installing on different computers.. using a different network....netshell command and what not.....dns flush....everything static dns...what and what not ....still problem is persisting ...can anyone help please....internet is working absolutely fine...checked everything else everything is good...but itunes cant even backup my device (((( feeling sorry for myself..

The first step should be to run your network connectivity tests.
iTunes help>>run diagnostics, just check network connectivity tests.
Paste the entire result into your next post. You can remove serial numbers.

I'm trying to use iTunes Remote to share my music library across my network to various devices; it works with some caveats; I thought I'd be able to see and play back to the device (iPhone or iPad) just like I can to my apple tv or airport. I can't..

My question is whether my IOS devices should appear on the Airplay device list in the Remote application... right now Apple TV, Airport Express, even my Samsung Note 3 appear as devices I can stream my iTunes library to... I can't seem to find a way to add the iPad or iPhone to that airplay list... I can use either the iPad or iPhone to direct playback to any of the listed devices... that works great... but, they don't seem to allow me to direct playback back to the device I am using as the remote. I'm trying to figure out if this is by intent or just not working right.
As a point of context, I am able to use my Samsung Note 3 to do exactly what I am trying to do with the iPad and iPhone... it works great.
And I understand that Apple intended me to use the Music app to play my shared library to my device... however, I have a BIG music library and when I ask the Music app to load up my shared library the little red circle gets about half full and hangs up... it never get there. The Remote app is great... I can see the whole library instantly and play any song I want to the listed Airplay devices... that part is sweet... but I can't (and maybe there is no way to) add my IOS devices to the airplay playback device list.
I've burned a lot of time trying to figure this out... any help, including somebody telling me that it just isn't supposed to work that way, would be appreciated.

You have to swipe in a left to right motion. If the airplay icon isn't showing up it's likely something within your network that is blocking it. You can also try rebooting devices and router.

You can store them on a separate hard drive, you don't need to keep them on your laptop's hard drive. On your computer's iTunes on the Advanced tab in Edit > Preferences there is a 'copy files to iTunes media file when adding to library' tickbox - if you untick that, you should be able to copy the films to a separate drive and add them back to your iTunes library (File > Add To Library) and it should then point to them on that separate drive and not copy them to your hard drive. When you are happy that it is what is happening and that they are safely on your external drive you can delete the films from your laptop's hard drive.
If you plug the external drive into a different USB port next time (assuming that your laptop has more than one) then it might get a different drive letter, so you might need to always use it with the same port.

Your Backups and library are stored at a different location. Uninstall and reinstall will not affect your Backups or library.

Deauthorizing won't delete anything, and all your purchased content is safe. You will just have to reauthorize any of the other computers that get deauthorized along with your computers old machine id.
To get your purchased content back on that computer, just use iTunes to redownload it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US). Of course, music you ripped from CD or got from another source you'll need to copy those files back over.
