Cant back up Mac - error code 6584

Hi Ive recently configured and set up my TC. Macbook configured wirelessly no probs.
However when I try to open Time machine after a few moments the above error message
appears and I have to end it. INstalled latest TC firmware.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

Hi LP,
Turn off wireless so there is only ethernet connection. - OK will try that in a mo..
Does the TC hard disk appear in Finder?  YES
If so mount it and then see if TM can find it. Even if it has issues once finder can access the drive it is usually ok.  Sorry, what do you mean Mount it ?
Is that how it should appear in Finder ?

I am now trying to restore all my documents from Time Machine but keep getting this error message error code -6584  -Help needed

Thanks guys but I am scr***d. All my business documents are back up on Time Machine. Tried the Verify option says back up drive is not available. Am I missing something? I have a WD NAS which has my TM backups on it. I know they are on there because I saw them before the clean reinstallation of the OS X.

  • HT201250 An unexpected error occurred (error code -6584). what does this error code mean ?

mac airport time machine i tried to open up error code 6584 would not open please help !

First, I strongly suggest that you make another full backup to a locally-attached external hard drive. You should do that anyway. One backup isn't enough to be safe, and backing up over a network is less reliable than backing up locally. Then try each of the following steps that you haven't already taken.
    1. Restart the backup device. You can do that by disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord.
    2. Hold down the option key and select Verify Backups from the TM menu in the menu bar (not the Dock icon.) This operation may take a long time. If the menu-bar icon (a clock that runs backwards) isn't showing, check Show Time Machine in menu bar in the preferences.
    3. Erase the backup device. With a Time Capsule, you do that from within the AirPort Utility application; see its built-in help for details. All backups will be lost, so don't do this until you've backed up to another device. After erasing, select the TC again as a backup destination in the TM preference pane. The first backup should be made over a wired connection, if possible.

  • What does an unexpected error occurred (error code -6584) when opening time machine

After a terminal hard drive fail in my 2007 imac which was backed up to time machine I tried to restore some data onto my replacement imac 2.9 late 2012.
I did this via migration assistant - it was a long process about 4 hours - so I went to bed and left it running.
When I returned to the imac I found I had my old programs back but none of the data assosiated with them - word but no documents, garage sale but no templates and itunes but no music...
This is my entire music collection of around 300 gig and all my Garage Sale templates which represent years of work.
Is there anyway to bypass or overcome the error so I can at least get the data mentioned above back?
    any help greatly appreciated
    best wishes

To fix the error code -6584 you would need to verify and repair your Time Machine Backup.
Go to System Preferences > Time Machine.
Hold down the Option key on your keyboard and click the Time Machine menulet and then selecting "Verify Backups".

  • HT1178 What does (error code -6584) mean?

I have recently bought a new MacBook Pro and migrated all my data from my old MacBook Pro to the new one.  Now my new MacBook will not connect with the Time Capsule - I just get a message that:
    The operation can’t be completed.
An unexpected error occurred (error code -6584).

(error code -6584) unfortunately won't tell you much that you do not already know....the connection attempt failed. That was the "unexpected error".
You may have already done this...but your post did not indicate whether you had.
Complete power cycle of the entire network....
Power everything down in any order you want
    Wait a minute
Start the modem first, and let it run a minute or two
Router next (might be your Time Capsule) the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time about a minute apart
Did you completely reset the connection path in Time Machine Preferences to "point" your Mac at the Time Capsule disk?
If not, click the Time Machine "clock" icon at the top of the Mac's screen
    Click Open Time Machine Preferences
    Click Select Disk
Click your Time Capsule to highlight it
    Click Use Backup Disk

My Time Capsule is showing error code - "An unexpected error occurred (error code -6584)"; can someone tell me what this means? Correlated, Time Machine does not show any backed up data although it says that ~400 GB out of 1 TB is remaining.

A simple reboot of the whole network.. from off.. modem .. router/TC.. clients.. 2min gap will probably fix it.
If it keeps happening, tell us your OS. (Most likely Mountain Lion.. which has networking ability of wet string and a pair of tin cans).

  • What is error code -6584 as related to Time Machine?

When I try to access time machine on my Macbook Pro I get an error code -6584.  I'm using a 1Tb Time Capsule.

  • Error code -6584 keeps coming up, help???

I keep having the error code 6584 coming up in regards to my Time Machine back-up. Where can I go to get the fix for this?

404 means the page you are looking for doesn't exist,  if you are using a bookmark
type the website directly into your browser.
    otherwise:
    open terminal> type:
    traceroute www.vodafone.com.au
you should get something like this:

  • After a full restore from Time Machine, I get "error code -6584" when trying to go into TM.

I took our iMac in, at the direction of Apple, to have the hard drive replaced. When we got it back, I restored from Time Machine (on Time Capsule). One file on the desktop, a spreadsheet file, has reverted to a version five months old, with the loss of considerable data, so I don't know which files I can now trust. Also, when I try to go into Time Machine, I get "error code -6584" and am unable to access my backups
This is potentially very very bad. What can I do?

    Solved:
sudo chflags 0 /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"
sudo chown 0:80 /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"
sudo chmod 775 /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"
sudo chmod -N /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"

  • I got the Mac error code -36 while trying to move a backup file

I got the Mac error code -36 while trying to move a backup file (made by Time Machine) to another drive.  The full text of the error message is:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “boot.efi” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)

It's a disk error. Although Apple documentation says you should be able to copy Time Machine backups in the FInder, that doesn't necessarily mean it will work. I suggest that, instead of copying the existing backup, you start a new one on the other drive, and keep the old one. You need more than one backup anyway.

  • An unexpected error occurred (error code -6584).

I get this error mesage, "An unexpected error occurred (error code -6584)." when I try yo run Time Machine application. Time capsule is not showing up under Devices in Finder, and no backups are happening?

This means the backup has likely become corrupted.
Reboot the TC just to be sure.. and even the whole network.. restarting in correct order, modem.. TC and clients with 2min gap.
No luck then do a verify of the backups.
    See A5 here http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
There is another method.. hold the option key as you click the TM icon clock in the top menu.. you will see verify backups there.
Sometimes it is hard to get past it and the only way is to wipe the old backup and start afresh.
See this thread amongst many.. as this is not uncommon.
