Cant Burn a DVD

Having trouble burning a DVD.
if i burn photos from a folder to a CD, no problems. If i try to burn the same images from the same folder to a a DVD then the computer freezes, does it matter what type of DVD i use. Such as DVD-RW or DVD+RW

If you'd bothered to describe the problem in more real detail I might have recommended some real sort of action. As your description goes, there is no reason that simple button will do any harm to DVD SP 's ability to burn discs. But since you mentioned version 4.03 of the software and version 10.5 of the operating system on Mac Pro I think there is your problem. Have you been able to burn discs in the past? If so, was it before 10.5? In any case you should upgrade at least to v. 4.1 of DVD SP which runs natively on Intel machines. Good luck with your project

Cant Burn Data Dvds HELP!

Actually Im not sure I can burn any Dvds at all! Im on a toshiba satelittle L305-s5919....and ive had it for quite a few years but ive never tried to burn anything before. Ive downloaded three diffrent programs and each program gives me basically-rthe same error that the Disc isnt compatible?! but im using the SAME dvds ( DVD-R ) that i use in my desktop and they work just fine on my desktop.... is it because this drive is a rw that i need a diffrent type of disc or something? or is my burning function just dead? I looked up your model. Your DVD drive is supermulti drive, capable of many media types. The spec states that its DVD-R Maximum Speed Compatibility single layer is 8X. Are you using optical media that is compatible? Another type of problems people sometimes have is brand of media. Some burner is picky about lower quality name brands such as Memorex.
I use ImageBurn free program that many in video forum seem like. It’s usually reliable.

Are you using physical media or making a disk image?
Have you ever before exported and burned a DVD with your current setup?
Can you export this project with any other share options – for example, a master file? If you cannot, are you able to export another existing or a test project?

It says my superdrive isnt supported so i cant burn a dvd????!!

Both me and my sister have Macbooks with the latest verison of iLife
i recently made a movie on imovie for school.
My teacher just told me that i had to burn the movie to a dvd.
Right when i opened IDVD (for the first time) a message came up saying that my superdrive was not supported and so i could edit videos on iDVD but i couldnt burn anything
i tried this on my sisters computer and teh same thing happened
has this happened to anyone else?
and how can i fix this!
my sister has a brand new computer and i just updated all the software on both macs but it didnt work.

If you do indeed have a combo drive then here are 2 options:
Buy a Lacie Ext. FW Burner
or Build your own like i did here (4 easy steps).

I prefer building my own within an ext. FW enclosure (requires no additional drivers whereas Lacie and others might) Pioneer S-Drives (both internal and ext. FW) model types include and are not limited to DVR-103, 104, 107, 110, 111, 112, etc. Highly recommend using a DL Burners btw or at least having this capacity available to you.

Cant burn any DVD's

I realize that this is not a Roxio forum for Toast 9 or 10 but suddenly they are both reporting illegal sense keys. So I decided to use the Disk Utility to burn and on my first optical drive its giving me an error saying it cannot calibrate the drive, this was the drive shipped with my desktop that has not given me much problems since I have had it. My second optical drive is a Samsung from OWC and it has also been fine but Disk Utility is now reporting errors on that drive as well and both versions of Toast will not complete any burn nor verify. I have switched users, trashed preferences but to no avail. Anyone or any advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance. This is also a problem on my MacBook Pro 2.2 duo core. Thanks

You didn't say if you have tried a better brand of DVD ot the brand you are trying now.

Cant burn DL DVD after Leopard Install

Hi, Hopefully Im not the only one having this problem after installing the new Leopard OS X (and from doing extensive google searches it doesn't look like I am). Hopefully someone has a solution because calling into support they didn't.
Previously with Tiger I could burn to all my Memorex DVD+R DL discs. Now no such luck. I get error codes from finder that say:
Burning the disc failed because communication to disc drive failed. (Error code 0x80020022)
When burning in Roxio Toast Titanium 8.0.3 I get the error:

Note: never had any of these problems until installing Leopard so I highly doubt the disc drive is toast. Also can burn to all other media just not DL dvds. The macbook is only 5.5 months old.
Really don't want to have to send away and be without laptop. Hope someone can help and Apple fixes this leopard bug soon.

The drive will be degraded to this if you have Parallels (3.x) running. I have proved this by displaying the profiler when it is running and when not (suspended). The profile for the drive is different in each case and the DL capability is there when it is not. It is possible that VMWare Fusion may do the same
That said I cannot make a copy of my Leopard DL install disk. The cdr file was created fine on disk using DU, and can be installed to an external drive using DU Restore. The result is a bootable external drive which works fine. However I cannot get the same image onto a DL DVD using DU or Toast 7. The disk writes fine, but when reinserted into the drive it whirrs for a while and then ejects. Any ideas?

Is there anyway to take video i have purchased from the itunes music store and burn it to dvd so i can watch it on my plasma

Cant burn a dvd on imac g5 it says idvd not responding

It encodes the dvd video but when it gets to audio it siezes up.... re set permissions from start up disc.. and it works on smaller files but wen i go up to 84 mins it won't do it.... it used to work fine and has stopped recently.

Let me try again - I have the same problem. It locks up when it gets about 95% done in the Encoding Audio portion. None too happy with my new Mac! Can anyone help?

i was having a problem connecting to itunes store, but after some time i just downloaded it again and installed it. Now Im unable to burn a cd from Itunes and now realized i cant burn any dvd/cd's from any program in my computer. has anyone got a solution for me please?

I suspect you are attempting to burn an HD DVD, which will not play on a DVD player...
But if you provide more details such as the settings you are applying in Compressor, then we would be able to provide you more accurate information.
How are you adding the files to Compressor?
In FCP, what are your footage properties (command-9) and sequence settings (command-0)

Why can't you do this? There's plenty of third-party software that can do the job. Download a few from
MacUpdate or CNET Downloads and try them out before choosing one to purchase.

Cant' Burn DVDs in Disc Utility or iDVD

I'm trying to burn a 111 min family movie. I've tried burning it in iDVD, but it failed at the "Writing Lead in" part. I've already burnt it once, in Disc Utility, but when I used Disc Utility to burn the new DVD as a disk image, it said 'Cannot get the necessary laser power level in order to burn"
The DVD I use is TDK DVD+R DL but I dont think the disc is the problem, since I have burnt many files on these disc already (which includes the first disc of the movie I'm burning).
What is the problem? Does my burner need replacing?

You need to look at the variables since you last were able to successfully burn this project.
First, make sure that you have enough free disk space to burn: 5GB is rock bottom but 20GB is recommended.
Secondly, shut down any other power consuming programs while you are burning, including your screen saver and power saver programs, and even email. Restarting your computer helps to clean things out.
Make sure that your burner is clean.
At 111 minutes, you are close to the 120 minute max for a single sided disk. Still, I would try burning this project onto a single sided standard DVD-R (instead of +R), using a different brand of disk. Maxell, Verbatim, Sony have been recommended. I personally like HP DVD-R disks. I have heard negative comments about TDK.
If you can burn a small test project, then probably your burner is O.K, and clean enough to burn, although I have heard that they can sporadically malfunction.
If nothing works, you might want to take your computer in to an Apple store or other repair place and have them check your burner.

Cant burn dvds!??

I have googled and googled but can't find anything online that says anything about why all of a sudden I can't burn any dvds?
Got my imac in Julyish of 08' and I have the "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-875:"
I don't know anything in terms of if I need to clean it or if the drive is just broken or ? I went through after reading something online and verified the disc and then repaired the disc permissions.. I was able to burn one dvd and then ever since.. nothing. Is it just broken? If so, how much am I looking at to get it fixed or replaced?
I checked to make sure everything is updated.. tried restarting.. I have no clue what else to try.
The error I get when I put in the dvd is : Burning the disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed.
I have memorex dvds- and have tried burning from the finder and from a burn folder. neither work

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Are you able to read from the DVD? If you insert your first OS X disk that came with your system (or a retail OS X disk), and reboot holding the C key down, does that work (that would cause it to boot from the DVD)?
Or, can you reboot holding the D key down? This may bring up the Apple hardware test if it's on your system, otherwise, you need to insert the first OS X disk that came with your system and reboot holding the D key (or hold the alt/option key and choose the AHT). If that works, choose the extended test.

I have an intel 17 inch imac and a matshita dvd-r uj-85j. when I go to burn a dvd I get a “Untitled DVD” can’t be burned because the disc is read-only and can’t be modified (error code 0x80020042). But that is BS. Can you please help me?

Sorry if this is obvious, but reasons why the DVD might not burn include:
1. The DVD burning speed is at the maximum speed of the drive.
2. The DVD is of low quality. Never burn discs from anything other than Ritek, Taiyo, or Verbatim. Don't apply sticky labels to the DVD, and don't use markers. Buy DVDs that are stored in jewelcases, not spindles. Follow the standards set here:

These issues are all platform independent.
3. The DVD was already burnt before (multi-session DVDs as far as I know are only possible for data DVDs, not movie DVDs, though double sided DVDs allow a burn on each side).
4. The capacity of the burn file is at the maximum of the capacity of the disk (try a smaller capacity).
5. The burning software is old. Make sure the version you are using is tested with your operating system version.

CANT BURN DVD+R DL ON MY MACBOOK!!! :(

I have a big problem, issue... I don't know... I have a MacBook 1st generation, and I want to burn a DVD with a movie that basically is about 7.2 GB... yes a little bit small ¬¬ So... I went very happy to Office Depot to buy a DVD+R DL for burning my beautiful movie, and then I fell in depression... my Mac does not recognize the DVD and ejects it every time I insert it; my computer does not recognize this tipe of CD's and is about to die, or... I need another drive, a REAL EXTRASUPERDRIVE... I have Toast Titanium 7...
So... What can I do? buy another computer (not a great idea... you know my economy I'm short), download a special software or driver, burn my DVD in 2 4.7GB DVD... or... you know what! HELP ME!!!
If you help me, I'm sure God will send to you 10 kids or Paris Hilton... who knows?

Your macbook does not have a duallayer burner in it, plain and simple. None of them did. The new ones do, with core 2 duo chips, but the old model, no.
You have 4 choices.
1. Sell the macbook, and buy a new one.
2. Buy just a new DualLayer Superdrive, and either install it yourself, or pay someone to do so.

3. Buy a cheap external firewire DualLayer dvd burner and use that only when you need to do DL burns...the rest of the time, use the builtin.
4. Let toast compress the dual-layer down to 1-layer and use regular 4.7g DVDs. It works, takes a long time, but I can tell the difference in quality pretty easily. But it does work.
#3 is the cheapest option I think. Virtually any FW dvd/dl burner would do.
