Cant burn from playlist - unknown error (2131)

I am not able to burn an audio cd from my playlist. I insert a cd as prompted. Itunes checks playlist. Then the cd ejected. A pop up comes up sayin, 'playlist cannot be burnt, unknown error(2131).
I am using the current version of Itunes, on windows vista.
Anybody know of a solution please?
I realise there are several discussions about burning probs. So i apologise for this.
Many thanks.

I'm having the same problem. Can't burn from playlist - unknown error (2131).

    hi Ilkka!
no particularly focussed advice I'm afraid. but there's still a few other things apart from the CD-drive firmware mentioned here that are worth checking up on:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93360
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93286
... and these resources might be helpful:

toonz, "Where to find firmware for your CD/DVD drive", 05:55pm Apr 15, 2005 CDT
... and if no joy with those, head here to check for other documentation and to submit your CD diagnostics to Apple:

... and periodically refresh your thread here with another post, so passers-by will be able to update you on any developments.

Can't burn cd's keep getting "unknown error" 2131 how can it be fixed?

The 2131 is usually a firmware issue, but we'd better doublecheck.
Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

  • Dell Inspirion 1501 Unknown Error 2131

I can burn with Windows media player, Nero etc. But when I try to burn a cd with Itunes I get and error "Unknown Error 2131" Has anyone else had this problem and if so is it dells problem or itunes problem.
    Thanks

I’m at Dell Headquarters in Austin, Texas and I’m part of Dell’s Online Community Outreach team. I’m sorry to hear that this is a problem and would like to see what I can do to help. I’d be happy to assist in tracking down firmware if anyone is having difficulty finding it. If applying the latest firmware available for that drive doesn’t correct the issue then the next step would be to pursue a patch for the software. It’s been my experience that optical drives are designed to meet certain specifications and then programs such as iTunes written to work with them. Given that the drive meets all applicable industry standards, it would be more of an issue of iTunes being patched to work with it then the other way around. Until such a fix is available, one possible workaround might be to use a different program to burn music CD’s if that can be done in a way that’s in keeping with the DRM rules.

Does your computer happen to be a Dell or Toshiba? If so, this error on either of these machines has been reported several times. I believe Dell has released a software patch to work out the issue, not so sure if Toshiba has done same.

  • Unknown Error 2131 - Can't Burn CDs

A few months ago I had to replace my XP computer with a Vista computer. Ever since then any attempt to burn a CD has errored out. I've tried all the different tips and tricks but still nothing.
    Any help please?

I think I fixed it...I went under My Computer, then right clicked on the cd drive that I used to burn, go to properties, went under the auto play tab, selected the action to perform button for each individual category(dvd, blank cd, music cd) selected the no action icon for each category. Then went to the recording tab and unselected the enable recording selection. Now I can burn every time! If this fixes it for anyone else let me know!

Everytime I try to burn a playlist to a blank CD-R in iTunes 11.0.4; it starts to burn the disk, but immediately fails and gives me an unknown error (-50). I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a MBP model 8,2.

Nick, In the screenshot posted above in 2013, Jen is looking at the playlist in her Device, not in her iTunes library, so of course there is no burn option.  Is that what you are seeing too?
In iTunes, if you are in a playlist in your iTunes library (not a playlist folder, and not your overall Music library) the Burn option can be access 3 ways:  from the gear icon, from the File menu, and from the contextual menu obtained by right-clicking the playlist name.

How is this related to iPad?
The iPad cannot use cd drives in any way.  Assuming you are doing this from iTunes on your computer, perhaps the best place to post this would be in the iTunes forum:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes
Or even the forum for the OS you are using.

  • Cant update my iPod - unknown error - need tecnical help!

I am using iTunes 7.0.2.16 (latest version), iPod 5th generation (software version 1.1.1), OS: Windows XP SP2.
The problem is that i cant automatically update my iPod firmware to 1.2 version. When i click to "Update" i get unknown error message (number 23). The error message is not contain information about cause of error, only that its "unknown".
I guess, its because my firmware is 1.1.1 and not 1.1.2 as its supposed to be, but i dont know.
So i hope, that you can help me to solve it without restoring my iPod (it will be big trouble with my 3000 songs..).
If someone knows where i can download 1.1.2 firmware to try with it first, pls give me the link.
    Thanks for attention!

My Ipod/Itunes seems to have the same problem. Downloading other things doesn't seem to matter, but I can't download the update. It always says, could not connect to the iPod update server! It says to check my connection, but I'm obviously connected to the Internet...It does that when I try to restore, or update. Any thoughts?

  • Cant update my ipod. unknown error (-69)

when i try to update my ipod, after a few songs are added i get this error:
Attempting to copy the disk "" failed. an unknown error occured (-69)
and then the updating stops. this always happens when there is only 4 gig on my ipod (and i have a 10 gig ipod!) so there is 6 i cant use now
I have tried updating itunes, using the ipod updater, i even tried multiple times to completely reinstal the ipod. but still i get the error when i updated around 4 gig.

I also have the same problem.
I have a 20 gig ipod. I am trying to update the ipod to my library (about 1800 songs) and every time the ipod gets around half of them updated, I either get the error -69 message, or my computer completely freezes up.
I've tried everything (5 r's, disabling anti-virus software, even just updating 50 songs at a time).
Oh and my other 20 gig iPod updates fine, go figure.
    Someone Please help me!

  • CD Burn attemp failed unknown error 4880

I am trying to burn a play list to a cd and keep getting unknown error 4880.
I have lowered the speeds on 16 it went the furthest 8 songs before canceling the burn and giving me the unknown error 4880. I just downloaded the newest I Tunes version and ideas or suggestions to get this burn to cd disc working ?
LOL I just tried burning again at speed 8 and got error 4900 this time....

I was having a similar problem with iTunes burning cd's. Not finding any help in the discussions I merely downloaded a free burn program (admittedly it was for MacOSX, but a google search will give you many more options for Windows). I was then able to drag the M4a files to the burn window in the program and create an Audio CD painlessly, and, I might add, faster than iTunes typically burned cd's... when it worked.
