Cant capture video?

so im trying to capture video in my new iMac from my DV camera and i cant get iMovie to see the camera. Like the post below, i am attached via 4 pin mini dv to firewire 800. any thoughts? there is obviosly a way to do it but how? Ive also tried to connect via 4 pin mini DV to USB2 AND 5 pin mini to USB2. nothing!
why did Mac loose the FW 400 on these new iMacs? they were pretty stable and i never had an issue.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated and DESPERATELY needed.
Thanks

all miniDV ist supported by iMovie..
check your Macs and Cam ports:
connect device to Mac via fw, set to 'Play'
click on Blue  upper left, 'About this Mac/More Info'..
the System Profiler should notice your device under 'firewire'
if not, Macs and/or Cams ports are fried..
test other devices on port/test camcorder on other Macs..

  • Arrrgh, so frustrated.  Cant capture video

I have just downloaded the trial version of PE7 I had PE1 and was not able to get the video off the mini disk. I was told I could get media from my disk using a later version of PE. The mini disk was recorded on a sony handy cam and I have finalized the disk. When I go to capture the media all it will down load is the what I think is a menu of the video clips. How do I down load the actual video footage??

Direct Capture is available from a mini DV tape camera. For other media, you need to bring it in without direct Capture.
Use Get Media and place the DVD/mini-DVD into an appropriate drive.

  • Tv@nywhere Master - Cant capture higher than 352X288

    Hi
I have a Tv@nywhere Master and i cant capture any higher that 352x288 resolution.
I tryed VirtualDub and Adobe Premier . They both say : Unsuported Video Format when i try to select 640x480 or 720x576 . (PAL mode)
The original software (MSIPVS) lets me choose the format and resolution but i dont want to use it because it offers poor quality.
I am capturing from VHS at maximum quality possible and storing it in AVI uncompressed and then use TMPEGenc to SVCD.
Can anyone comment on this ?
Doesnt this board capture higher than 352x288 ???
    Thank you
    Filipe

I use it in 768x576 without any problems
you just have to look for a   Use Smart Tee Filter  setting because the card can`t both capture and preview over 288 so you`ll need to split the data on the Capture pin in order to provide preview over 288 lines.

  • Anyone know what would cause a cs5 "utilities.cpp-760"  when trying to capture video

    Software: Premiere Pro CS5 v5.0.3
    OS: Win7 Pro 64bit
Trying to batch capture video from a Sony DSR-45 over firewire and it's worked before, but for some reason now it will cause the "Premiere pro debug event' message box with "..src\Utilities.cpp-760".
Any one have any ideas what would cause that or where I could look for a log file or something with a little more info.
    Thanks

  • Why is my captured video split into three?

I have a canon HV40 and First I am not sure if i am even capturing with the right settings. I am shooting in HDV (pf30). when I click easy setup and choose HD and 29.97 I am guessing the best setting that is left to select is the HDV-apple intermediate code 1080i60. The quality seems great and I can capture video
here is the problem and it happens using another capture setting too.
If i capture an hour video it splits it into a 35 and sum min clip then a .7 sec cip and the rest which is usually around 29 and sum min clip. What the heck? this wrecks the video I cant work with a .7 sec clip and paste them all together. is there a way to get it to capture all into one clip that i can work with on the timeline?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Did you capture on external drive? If so, I'm pretty sure that your drive is formated to FAT 32 file allocation table that doesn't support file larger than 4 gig.
HDV is transcoded to Apple Intermediate codec on capturing process in FCE and requires an efty 49 gig/hour for 1080i60 hard drive space.
FAT 32 is not a correct format for video editing works. Try to back up (or recapture) and reformat to Mac OS extended (journaled or not) with disk utility.

  • Cannot capture video frm PD170 - now says Audio Capture Only Selected??

So I now can't capture video?? It says before you attempt to do so that it's Audio Capture Only Selecteed / Video Preview Disabled.
And I have been thru everything to figure how to unselect this option - and cant find anything??
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks!!

    Thanks for your replies.
I have the Device Control and Capture presets set to PAL. Is there any other PAL settings I need to set at this stage?
The 25fps vs. 24fps was confusing me as well. I was told that was the camera that was used, and set to 24fps, and when I step through the tape frame by frame, it appears that it is 24fps. Does that make any sense? Perhaps this is another thing to complicate the whole situation. I've tried multiple variants of capture presets. PAL, NTSC, 24fps, 29, 25, all giving me the same "Preview disabled."
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

now I am not getting previous errors.
But now I am getting null pointer exception on clicking the Start button.
Even the file is created.(56 kb)
On your advice I displayed the player and filewriter and got following things
(after clicking start and same even when created in the constructor)
    Data Sink started com.sun.media.datasink.file.Handler@1fdc96c
Processor started com.sun.media.processor.unknown.Handler@186d4c1If you find something please let me know.
    Thanks in advance.
This shows that processor is having some problem and cant render. While file is created and the println statement shows Data sink object is working fine.

  • Cant capture anymore

I created a FCP project for capturing a new tape using capture now (shot with my Somy Vx2000 in 16/9 (yes, I know many people dont like to cature using capture now, but it is a for a very simple job and always find it convenienct for qick jobs).
Unfortunately I forgot to set up the right capture settings to make it DV NTSC 48 KHz Anamorphic. It was just DV NTSC 49 KHz. After realising it, I closed FCP and erased through the Finder window the project from my FCP Project Directory as well as in the capture Scratch sub-directories.
I reopened FCP and corrected the audio/video settings to make the capture in DV Anamorphic.
I started to capture the tape, still using Capture Now, but after 4-5 seconds it stopped and I got the message : "Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This cold be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved".
I tried to create a new project name, and it did not solve the problem. I tried another tape, I tried to reboot the MacPtro, but I still have this problem and cant capture anymore.
Can someone help finding the source of the problem and how to solve it ?

Before playing around with the Power management Unit as you suggested after, I tested your idea of capturing as non anamorphic. And it worked !! But when I come back to the DV NTSC Anamorphic, the problems comes back.
You are right, we can turn on the anamorphic checkbox in the Browser, but the canvas windows looks funny. It is still shaped 4/3 but the image shows 16/9 with black strips on top and botton and exceeds the limits in the right and left sides.
But knowing that, how can I make my traditional settings work again (choosing in my audio/video settings both my sequence preset and my capture preset to be DV NTSC 48 KHz Anamorphic ?

  • If you cant capture

if you cant capture your video because the timecode is screwed up just import into iMovie then drag and drop.
hope this will be helpful to someone.

    lol... Z1user -
Hey -did you enjoy Honolulu? (Maybe you never left!)
    Jskier:
A better route is to turn the capture setting:Device setting to NON-CONTROLLABLE DEVICE. Just hit play on DV cam and CAPTURE NOW.
You can stay in FCP. Hope this makes your life easier. Mark this topic as solved so other won't jump in to help you since you don't need it.

  • Unable to capture video with MSI StarForce 822 GeForce 3!

I have a MSI StarForce 822 GeForce3 graphics card with 64 MB DDR SDRAM on it. I have VGA Out, as well as TV-out (AV), TV-out (S-video), and TV-in(?) (S-video).
This brings me to two questions:
First, I have NEVER been able to figure out how to use the TV-in (S-video) port. I have tried numerous programs designed to capture video, including the one that came with the graphics card, and none of them recognize the card's TV-in. Do you have any recommendations as to how to use this port to capture video?
Second, in reading through the online manual for the graphics card on the company's website (under the name G3 Pro-VT64D MS-8822), I saw that the card supposedly has the capability of "High-quality HDTV/DVD playback" (8822 v2.0.pdf, page 8 ). However, in playing back DVD's through the card's s-video output onto my HDTV-ready monitor, I definately do not see HD quality videos. Could explain why this is the case?
I have an assignment coming up where I must do some video-editing work, and thus I am posed with a situation where I need to capture video using this card (and I can't afford to buy something new for the moment).
    Thanks for your help.
    Charles Bergmeier

If you have the Video Capture Driver installed then the video capture program should see it. On MSI site version 1.16 of the driver is available for download.
If you still have problems (e.g. too many frames lost) you can try using Virtual VCR (worked best in my case).

  • Unable to capture video from VHS through DAC-200

    (Running Final Cut Pro 5.1.4)
I have a DAC-200 to hook up my VCR to my G5 in order to capture video from VHS tapes into Final Cut. I had this set-up working a few months ago, but it was disconnected to rearrange equipment and now I can't get it working again. I have followed the advice from the DAC-200 installation instructions and advice from other forum topics but can't seem to get it to work. I finally was able to get something in the log and capture window besides "preview disabled" and "cannot capture because there is no video." I now can get Final Cut to capture video, however it only captures a blank black screen (and this is all I can see in the preview window).
I've triple-checked every cable hook-up, the G5 recognizes the converter box, the video tape plays fine to a tv. I've even had our IT-guy here at work come check out my set-up for help and he can't figure out what is wrong either. (He did get my log&capture window to get white fuzz in the black screen at one point though. Does that mean anything?)
Any help is greatly appreciated! (I'm happy to answer any other questions too.) Thanks!

I had difficullty with the X.4.10 plus QT7.2 and put my info on the Forum as well as sending feedback to Apple. Shortly afterwards, Apple brought out a short security update which I downloaded and, hey presto, I was then able to use QT7.2 with OSX.4.10. It may be that you missed out on the later small update to QT7.2..... ? Another factor I found was that some little while later I again had a problem so I again installed QT7.2 and over-installed FCP5.1.4 which has resolved my problems for the time being. Worth a try if you still can't get through on the DAC.

  • Unable to capture video

I have FCP HD 4.5. I am trying to capture video from a camcorder. I can connect the camera to my iMac via the cameras DV port into the firewire port or by the camera's USB port into the computer's USB. I have tried both ways but the camera is not being recognized. The camera is a Canon Elura 80, mini DV.
I select Log and Capture and I am told it is "unable to recognize video deck." Then I try Capture Now but it says video device isn't selected. What should I do?
    Thanks

You have two problems that fold into one another masking the solution.
    1. an intermittant connection between your camera and the computer
    2. a possible conflict between your camera and an external drive.
    Lets take the problems individually.
    1. An intermittant connection. If your camera is not being recognized in system profiler (before trying iMovie or FCP) you have a connection issue. Either the camera settings are wrong, the camera's firewire port is damaged, your firewire cable is flakey and/or your computer firewire port is damaged.
To test these items individually, you'll need another computer, cable and camera that you know work. If you don't have these things or have access to them, you'll probably need to take your machine to a knowledgable repair shop.
    2. A conflict between the camera and the hard drive. If the camera connects reliably and shows up in system profiler, it should always work with iMovie- even with a hard drive attached. This is the very first test. If it now doesn't work when you try it in FCP with the hard drive attached, you have the firewire bus conflict. Disconnecting all external hard drives from the computer and capturing to an internal drive will solve the conflict problem.
