Cant change HD Permissions

Hi, I hope someone can help
I had a problem earlier where my machine would not allow me to write to a drive so I changed the permissions.
I have 4 internal drives in my machine, two tell me that I do not have permission to view them. When I try and change the permissions from the preference panel nothing actually changes. It tells me that system, admin and everyone all have custom access and will not let me change it to anything else. The ignore ownership option doesnt help either.
I have found similar posts that refer to problems with external drives but none for internal. I think from what I have read this can be rectified with the correct lines of programming entered through the terminal window, hopefully someone can help me out with that info
I did have an OS failure earlier which possibly happened whilst the permissions were being changed. I now have a fresh install of the OS on a clean drive.
Apologies if i have posted this in the wrong place, I am a new user to these forums

    Hello ,
As you have mentioned that you have child roles in your landscape and in HR environment child roles are different in terms of org levels and HR org levels are mostly based on Personnel areas.
This might be case where your user administrator was having access to different Personnel areas and user belongs to other personnel areas.
Administrator personnel areas you can check in the Role org level and users personnel areas you can check in PA20
Another problem from HR prospective can be in case where user is not coming under that Administrator  to check this you can go in Tcode OOSB--->select the administrator name and hit display objects if you are able to find your user in that list it means that administrator can maintain the user .
But from the problem which you have mentioned that authorization object is itself not present then please add that authorization object in the child role and assign to the administrator.
Please let us know if the role assigned to the administrator have this authorization object or not ?
    Thanks

  • Grant change(write) permissions to an already existing bulk shares folder

    Hello,
We had a server crash (Windows 2003) and I had to bring it up on new VM.  I have used net share to create my shares, however after doing so, the share permissions for "Everyone" are only set to read.  What I need to do is modify the current
folders so "Everyone" has read/write access.
    net share    SHARENAME$=''\\servername\d$\folder_path\folder_path\FOLDERtoSHARE''
Above is the command I used. How would I grant "Everyone" read/write permissions.  I guess now the question is how do I grant CHANGE (write) permissions to "Everyone" since they can all view their folders, but cannot
    add to or edit them.
Currently I have to go to the properties of each folder, click Sharing, the Permissions and edit "Everyone" permissions to read/change.  I have a lot of folders and this could take awhile doing it manually.  I know I'm close, just cant
    find the right syntax.
    Please help!
    Thanks

  • System Folder errors after I changed all permissions on HD to read & write

    Hi,
Two things may have caused probs on my new 2010 iMac (Snow Leopard), and Applecare is shut so I would really appreciate some help as I have urgent work.
    1) INCORRECT PERMISSIONS
I have been stupid. I clicked on Macintosh HD and changed all permissions to read & write because I wanted to be sure I could open and edit all documents on other computers.
I ran Disk Utility Repair Permissions from the install disc, but I am still getting system error messages, and my HP printer won't work.
The first message, in Repair Permissions, said: Warning: SUID file System/Library/Cores has been modified and will not be repaired. I have read a support doc on this which says no need to worry but I don't like it and would like to fix this.
More importantly, my HP printer won't work, displays error beside the document in print dialogue box.
Deleting the printer and readding it didn't work, so I downloaded new drivers and tried to install them, which is when I got the second system error message: System extension System/Library/Extensions/BJUSBLoad.kext was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact product's vendor for an update.
I checked the permissions on the file and they were still wrong despite Repair Permissions, allowing everyone to read & write. So I have now clicked on the entire System folder and changed the permissions to: System read & write, admin read only, everyone read only.
Will this fix it or do I need to do something else, such as check ownership, to make sure all permissions on the computer are now correct?
    2) MEMORY STICK SHUT DOWN MY IMAC
Additionally (though I don't think this had anything to do with my problems), I inserted a Sandisk USB memory stick the other day and it immediately shut down the computer. When I inserted it into my Macbook it initially rejected it and gave me a message saying the device wanted too much power so it had ejected it to prevent damage to my computer. When I tried again it was OK. I totally reformatted the stick in case there was something harmful on it, but should I now bin the stick as faulty? Scared to use it again.
    3) IS IT BEST TO REINSTALL ENTIRE SOFTWARE?
If I do a reinstall of all the software from the install disc, will it wipe out all my data, such as Mail, documents, bookmarks and other apps?
I would back-up, but if I try and back up files on my external drive it will automatically do a Time Machine back-up and I don't want to do that in case it backs-up all the corrupted files. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind starting again just to be sure all is well.
Expert advice would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you
    Sarah

Oh, silly really. I was in a hurry and working on docs that I needed to take to the office and open on another computer there.
But when I checked the permissions on the doc it said I could read & write but everyone else was read only.
I thought if I opened it on another machine I'd be stuck with read only access and not be able to work on there. I think I couldn't change it, so I thought to avoid any future problems like that I would change everything on machine!
    Yikes. Won't do that again

my icloud account on my new iphone does not match the user ID for itunes as it is an old apple ID. There is no password for this ID so I cant change it and it wont let me change the apple ID. Any help?

To change to iCloud ID on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID then sign in with the new ID.  If you don't know the password for the old ID, and if the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How can i purchase an app of japan store without change my itunes store? i have balance in my US ac so i cant change my stores, but the app i want to purchase in jp store is a free app.... i know apple dun allow balance spend in other countriesbutitisfree

How can i purchase an app of japan store without change my itunes store? i have balance in my US ac so i cant change my stores, but the app i want to purchase in jp store is a free app.... i know apple dun allow balance spend in other countries but it is a free app

You cannot use the Japanese iTunes Store unless are physically present there and have a Japanese payment method. This applies even for free apps; you cannot get them from the Japanese iTunes Store if you are in the US.
If you are in Japan, you can set up a new iTunes Store account just to get free apps. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
If you have moved to Japan and wish to change the country of your account permanently, you can contact the iTunes Store and ask them to clear your remaining balance. You will need to be able to provide a Japanese payment method, though.

  • How do I stop DW CS6 randomly changing file permissions via FTP?

How do I stop Dreamweaver CS6 12.0.1.5842 randomly changing file permissions when it uploads files to my web server via FTP.
I can no longer trust Dreamweaver to upload websites correctly as it changes permissions on some files which then deny the server access to the file which in turn makes the webpage unreachable/return a 403 error.
    This is driving me insane.
I'm using an early 2011 Macbook Pro 10.7.5.

    Hi,
I'm having this problem too. Has Adobe fixed the issue yet? This appears to be an Adobe problem, not all the web hosts out there. CS6 is ramdomly (meaning: not every time) changing permissions on files uploaded with it and is not usable for web work until this problem is fixed by Adobe or a solution is provided. If I wanted to use a separate FTP program I would not have recommended that my employer buy multiple Adobe CS6 product licenses. One of the primary appeals of DW is the integration of FTP into the workflow.
I am using a destop iMac2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 gigs of 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
    OSX 10.7.5
I am using DW Version 12 Build: 5808
Dreamweaver CS4 that I was using until this new purchase was working just fine. No file permisssion changes. I am being forced to go back to using it until Adobe posts a fix for this.
I should ask while I'm here: has anyone found a solution for this yet?
    Thanks,

  • How do you change volume permissions with Solaris Volume Manager?

(Previously posted in "Talk to the Sysop" - no replies)
I'm trying to set up Solaris 9 to run Oracle on raw partitions. I have my design nailed down and I have built all the raw partitions I need as soft partitions on top of RAID 1 volumes. All this is built using Solaris Volume Manager (SVM).
However, all the partitions are still owned by root. Before I can create my Oracle database, I need to change the owner of the Oracle partitions to oracle:oinstall. The only reference I found telling me how to do this was in a Sun Blueprint and it essentially said "You can't change volume permissions directly or permanently using SVM and chown will only remain effective until the next reboot. To make the changes permanent, you must modify /etc/minor_perm". Unfortunately, I can't find an example of how to do this anywhere and the online man pages are not particularly helpful (at least not to me).
I'd appreciate a quick pointer, either to a good online resource or, even better, a simple example. For background, the volumes Oracle needs to own are:
    /dev/md/rdsk/d101-109
    /dev/md/rdsk/d201-203
    /dev/md/rdsk/d301-303
    /dev/md/rdsk/d401-403
    /dev/md/rdsk/d501-505
I provide this information because I'd like to assign some, but not all, of the devices under /dev/md/rdsk to the oracle user and I was hoping some smart person out there could illustrate an approach using simle regular expressions, at which I'm horribly poor.
    Thanks in advance,
    Adrian

Ron, I feel your pain.  I just came from an HTC also and a lot of stuff with this iPhone is bugging the crap out of me.  Who makes a phone where you can't adjust the ringer and alert volumes independently?  Instead, I have to adjust the alert volume when it is active.  C'mon guys.  Get with the program.  You won a bunch of Android users over with the 4S, but you're going to chase us all back when we're done with our contract.  Frustrating.

  • I can not transfer date from one hard drive to another, I keep getting an error because I have two of the same file names and one file name is in caps and I cant change the file name

can not transfer date from one hard drive to another, I keep getting an error because I have two of the same file names and one file name is in caps and I cant change the file name. My original external has an error and needs to be reformatted but I dont want to lose this informations its my entire Itunes library.

Sounds like the source drive is formatted as case sensitive and the destination drive is not. The preferred format for OS X is case insensitive unless there is a compelling reason to go case sensitive.
Why can't you change the filename? Is it because the source drive is having problems?  If so is this happening with only one or two or a few files? If so the best thing would be to copy those over individually and then rename them on the destination drive.
If it is more then you can do manually and you can't change the name on the source you will have to reformat the destination as case sensitive.

i cant change my email under settings on my ipod touch it wont even let me click on it any ideas?

To get reid of the Restrictions passcoe you have to restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.  You should do that anyway since the apps and music (if any) on the iPod do not belong to you.  They did not transfer with the purchase of the iPod hardware.

  • Changing Sharing & Permissions on a Mac OS Extended External Drive

I'm using ChronoSync to back up to 4 external hard drives. Three of them were formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), while the 4th is not journaled. On the journaled HD's, I can change the privileges for me, staff and everyone in Get Info; I can also check or uncheck "Ignore ownership on this volume" on 2 of them. My Time Machine volume doesn't have the option to ignore ownership. My issue is that changing privileges on the Mac OS Extended volume is grayed out, and the box to ignore ownership is checked. Therefore, Chronosync cannot write to the volume.
I could try to use chmod in Terminal to change permissions on this volume, but I don't know the syntax to get to a mounted volume (I know they're listed in /Volumes).
    So I have two questions:
    1. Does this issue indicate a substantial difference between journaled and not-journaled Mac OS file systems?
    2. What is the syntax in Terminal to change the permissions on the volume (name is Video Backup) so that I can at least uncheck the "Ignore ownership on this volume"?
I apologize if this has been asked and answered elsewhere on this forum, but I wasn't able to locate such a discussion.
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hi mackjack,
The commands Niel posted were to regain access to a drive not to change existing permissions. Nonetheless, I executed them so at least I know the syntax to use in order to get to an external hard drive (something I hadn't known before), so thanks!!! I might try chmod 770
    Update:
Now that I know the basic syntax (thanks to you) I can now change permissions for any user I like. Chronosync is able to synchronize to the drive.
    Thanks!!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Start here (change country if necessary) and navigate to 'Password and Security', reset your security questions using the link provided, you will receive an email to your rescue address, use the link in the email and reset your security questions.
If that doesn't help, you don't receive a reset email or you don't have a rescue address, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.

  • Why can't I change ACL permissions of a volume on mac os x 10.6

    Hello,
I'm currently working with a Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server with 2x1TB drive installed in RAID configuration (/Volumes/LTRK) and 1x2TB installed as a regular volume (/Volumes/LTRK2/). For both volumes I could set all permissions perfectly, but recently, I cannot change the permissions on the 2TB volume. I have the following current permissions:
    ACL:
Group of regular division members (read + all descendants)
Group of ICT co-workers (read/write + all descendants)
    Administrators (read/write + all descendants)
    Everyone (read + all descendants)
    POSIX:
The admin user account (read/write + this folder)
The 'staff' group which is automatically there (read/write + this folder)
    Others (read + this folder)
If I compare to the drive where I can change the permissions and where everything works correctly (the RAID config), the only difference is that the 'Everyone' group permissions are not set to be inherited for the working drive (so only on the volume level). I wanted to check whether this was the source of my problems and tried to change the permissions of the 'Everyone' group. However, as soon as I click Save in Server Admin, it automatically reverts to all descendants.
The results of the failure to reset the permissions, leads to the fact that I don't have write access anymore with the admin user accound (I guess due to counteracting permissions). I also tried to delete all permissions from the volume with "chmod -R -N /Volumes/LTRK2" but this gives me a list of every file on that volume, with the error message: "chmod: Filed to clear ACL on file filename: Invalid argument"
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this issue?
    Kind regards
