• New iMac brightness level keeps changing (auto adjust NOT checked)

Just got a new 27 inch iMac and keep on having to change the brightness level back to the brightness I prefer.
I do not have auto adjust checked, I put the brightness slider up to the level I like and after a while the brightness dims to what seems like the default level as its always down to the same spot on the slider...what gives? i just want it to stay where I want it...
Help.

I have same problem, of autobrightness being unchecked and my brightness going from full to about 3/4 bright
all by itself. I had that problem, then flickering of my screen also was taking place. I didn't bring my unit into Apple
because this autobrightness thing plus flickering would not happen on command,, and I wouldn't be able to show them properly. Well , finally my left side of the screen dimmed,, and that was the go ahead to bring it in to them
to show the left side of screen. I also told them about the flickering,, and the autobrightness, which I figured played a role into the final left side dimming. They replaced the backlight and the display LCD on warranty.
I have had it for about 5 days. The screen is equally lit (as should be), however, I discovered that my same old
problem of autobrightness, is slipping back to 3/4. So most of you have autobrightness problem in a sort of different way. I set mine to "torch" because my downstairs bedroom is dim (with one overhead light), but sometimes, just plain dark,, so I want to sometimes keep it at torch,, however, it still slips back. You would
almost think that if my surronding was dim or dark, that it would stay on torch if the autobrightness was really working properly. Go figure. I just tried SMC a short while ago,, I had tried, before my repair doing PRAM and the other one (I think VRAM). I also will unhook my second monitor to see if that is having an impact on things.
Do any of you in this post have a second monitor attached,, and have you tried unhooking it to see if the problem
is resolved?

• Brightness levels change while using Apple TV

The brightness levels change on my TV screen every few minutes while I'm watching my Apple TV. It happens with "Internet" sources (like Netflix and Vimeo) and "Computer" sources like iPhoto for sure. Maybe the other sources as well. Any clues?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check that the HDMI cable is correctly seated at both ends.
Try disconnecting the cable and connecting it again.
Try another HDMI cable.

• [Solved]Brightness changing by itself / Samsung brightness

Hello friends,
I have a rather strange issue with my laptop (Samsung NP300V5Z). GNOME or KDE, no difference at all, so I presume it's kernel/hardware related. My brightness maxes out when:
1. In KDE, when I click on the battery widget in systray (which is a known KDE bug) OR totally random.
2. In GNOME 3, totally random.
Using laptop-mode-tools helps a bit, because I choose it over KDE's powerdevil, so the bug is not so visible. One other thing worth mentioning. My Fn keys for brightness work half-way; they will only decrease/increase brightness by 1 (out of 7 max). Sound, wlan, touchpad Fn keys work without problem.
I will provide whatever info you might need.
Arch x64 latest, KDE 4.8, Gnome 3.2.1 kernel 3.2.2-1

Something happened and brightness is doing fine now, changing when I want it (except for a known KDE bug). One more thing still bothers me; my hotkeys for brightness are not working.
I opened xev and pressed the combinations, here is the output:

but nothing happens ;( What can I do to fix this? I can check my brightness level by
cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video1/brightness
. There is also 'acpi_video0' but it does nothing.

• Brightness levels on final product

Hi, this is my first post here. I'm currently working to build a calibration dvd for NTSC televisions. I'm using calibration targets that I built myself in photoshop CS2 using NTSC color space. The calibration target needs to haves color patches under video black and above video white.
The problem is: The patches are correct, save in .psd extensions. When I encode jpeg's or AVI's in premiere pro the patches are still correct. But when I encode the DVD, no matter if I use the original PSD or the video encoded with premiere pro, the brightness levels of the patches are changed, probably to fit NTSC standard. I absolutely need the final results to be unchanged and I don't know how.
If I need to switch from encore to another software, i'm willing to do it (as long as there is a trial version for me to test to make sure I won't have the same problem)
Thanks!!

HI,
If you are using a Taxinj procedure, then create a inventory Tax code & maintain values for BED,ECS & SHEcess inventory conditions.
Incase of taxinn you can maintain the condition records for inventory conditions using FV11 transaction.
Thanks & Regards,

• My iDVD output has brightness level fluctuations as subject moves hands

Hello, I'm new to this software and video production in general. I recently used FCE to produce a 89GB QuickTime HD file that I sent to iDVD to process. The result was as my subject moved his hands, the apparent brightness level changed from lighter to darker, back and forth. It was not a drastic fluctuation, but it was noticeable. This problem was not visible when viewing the movie in QuickTime at 1920x1080. I used the standard workflow export to QuickTime (no conversion), then produce with iDVD. My scratch disk for this was my internal hard drive. Anyone ever see this before? Any ideas will be welcome.

Will this help, Al?
Dimensions: 1920 x 1080, Codecs: Apple Intermediate Codec, Linear PCM, Timecode; Color profile: HD (1-1-1); Duration: 01:53:12; Audio Channels: 2; Total bit rate: 99,862
If not, perhaps you can guide me.

Hello ,
As you have mentioned that you have child roles in your landscape and in HR environment child roles are different in terms of org levels and HR org levels are mostly based on Personnel areas.
This might be case where your user administrator was having access to different Personnel areas and user belongs to other personnel areas.
Administrator personnel areas you can check in the Role org level and users personnel areas you can check in PA20
Another problem from HR prospective can be in case where user is not coming under that Administrator to check this you can go in Tcode OOSB--->select the administrator name and hit display objects if you are able to find your user in that list it means that administrator can maintain the user .
But from the problem which you have mentioned that authorization object is itself not present then please add that authorization object in the child role and assign to the administrator.
Please let us know if the role assigned to the administrator have this authorization object or not ?
Thanks

• Brightness levels decreased after installing 10.6.2

My computer came with Snow Leopard (it's the 13" Macbook Pro) and after installing the upgrade from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 I noticed that the brightness decreased dramatically. I don't think it has anything to do with gamma as I tried to adjust that and it didn't really make that big a difference. I have now increased the brightness but I still think there might be something wrong with my laptop because I don't know if the update could decrease the brightness levels as they were the default levels, I hadn't changed them... It would seem strange somehow... I did install the update when I didn't have the computer connected to a power source, could that have caused this? Could installing the update again help? Or could I uninstall it somehow? This is my first Mac so I'm rather clueless about everything...

yes, that was most likely it. and a bad idea it was on your part. never do that again. if the computer runs out of power in the middle of an update this can brick your system and require a reinstall.

you don't need to do anything. the brightness was reduced automatically during the update to conserve energy.

• Brightness levels reset to default on restart

I'm using iBooks & find it frustrating that if I change the brightness level, the new level is not remembered & find it reverts to the default level each time I re-open I-books. Perhaps this issue could be rectified at a future version revision?

Try completely closing out of iBooks: from the Home screen double tap the Home button, once the multitask bar appears hold down on the iBooks icon until it starts to jiggle, press the red icon in the corner to close out of iBooks. Now restart the iPad and see if this might help resolve the brightness issue.
Alternatively instead of a restart you could perform a Reset once you close iBooks. Reset: hold down the Home and Sleep/Wake button at the same time for ~10sec, ignore the Slide to Power Off, the iPad will then Reset, Note: No data is lost during a Reset.
if the problem continues you might need to delete iBooks and then redownload it from the App Store. if none of the suggestions provided dont help resolve the issue then I suggest leaving feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

• Spasming brightness level

Every now and then, this thing happens on my W701ds, where I open the lid (I have it set so that it does nothing on closing the lid...so it's not coming out of sleep or anything) and the screen brightness level starts twitching back and forth between two settings (like between 10 and 11). The only way to get it to stop, is to hold down one of the brightness Fn keys to push the level all the way to the min or max.
Has anyone else seen this? I searched and couldn't find anything, but maybe it's been described differently. It's fairly spectacular, so I have to imagine someone else has posted about it.
I'm not even sure what to target as being responsible for this. It does seem like it normally adjusts its brightness to the abient light level, I assume using the same sensor as for color calibration. Is it HueyPro that does this or some other system component?
This may be unrelated, but occasionally when I open the lid it comes up with an odd colored cast to it for a second or so, as if it is adjusting the colors, though I didn't think that was supposed to be happening automatically.
If anyone can give me any clues about how this stuff works / is supposed to work, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Eric

This also happens without lifting the lid...if the monitor gets shutoff to save power if I have not touched it in a little while, it sometimes goes into spasm mode when I move the mouse and it turns the monitor back on. Which brings me to theorize a cause:
I suspect that the power manager which adjust the brightness level according to your power scheme (such as to turn the monitor on or off or adjust brightness differently for powered vs battery) ends up "fighting" with the component (HueyPro, I believe) that is changing the brightness level for room light compensation. I think it happens when the room light level has changed between when powermanager turned off the monitor, and when it turned it back on.
If so, its not clear which of these components is at fault or if it is something at a deeper system level that should be coordinating between them.

• Strange Brightness level on FCP7

Something strange has happened to my FCP7 media when I recently re-opened an ongoing Project File and viewed in the Viewer and Canvas, the image brightness levels are way down, at least 4-5 stops speaking camera wise.
This is an ongoing project and nothing has changed with the iMac or the files themselves. The only thing I did recently between closing and opening the Project a week later was to calibrate the monitors with an iOne.....I took that calibration away went back to standard iMac profile, no difference. As a test I exported a clip as a QT file and played that on the same iMac and that looks fine, correct levels. Back in FCP7 it's way dark.
I started a New Project, imported a file, same thing, dark way under, play that clip out of FCP as a QT and it's fine.
I took the same Project File and put it into FCP on my MacBook Pro 17", connected the external raid with the project media and everything opens up fine, all video at normal density.
Any idea what could be happening here? Thanks!

Thank you Meg The Dog,
I did try what you suggest, but when I checked the Playback Control / Gamma Control is was on Approximate, I then tried the other setting but no change with the "darkness" issue.
I am thinking that I may just completely de-install FCP7 using FCS Remover now and then re-install it. As the Project file runs fine on the MBP here's obviously a setting "stuck" somewhere on the iMac's FCP7 installation that creates this problem.
I did trash all the FCP Prefrences prior to my first posting. That sometimes clears problems, but not this time
What do you think, is a re-install is a good plan?

• HT5628 When using windows, the highest brightness level is like half of what it is on mac

Hi everybody,
I installed Windows 8 on my 2013 Macbook Pro through BootCamp. It was easy and without any complications during installation.
The problem presented itself when I started using Windows. The screen is too dim. I changed the brightness level to it's maximum but it is still way dimmer than it would be on OS X.
How do I fix this?
Thanks

Try turning off adaptive brightness. That made a huge difference to mine.

• LCD brightness level automatically reset

Dear Experts and other user,
Started from yesterday, my T61 laptop LCD brightness level automatically reset to lower in everytime i started it. I needed to manually tune up the brightness level.
The laptop is firmly connected to the AC power. And i have did nothing under the Windows system. Is it any hardware issue or software configuration issue?
Many thanks with your attention and advise.
ED

My "energy saver" pref does NOT have the options for "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before the display sleeps" item mentioned above. It has only the 4 following entries:
Wake Options:
-Wake when the modem detects a ring
-Wake for Ethernet network administrator access
Other Options:
-Allow power button to sleep the computer
-Restart automatically after a power failure
This option does show up in the help file and I am imagining that I either don't have the hardware to support it or it is geared for laptops.
I have tried using the terminal to issue a pmset command (logged in as root of course) to see if I could affect this behavior.
pmset -a lessbright 0
pmset -a halfdim 0
neither of them showed up in the file:

• Cannot adjust brightness levels

I have an HP Envy 14 Notebook and as of recently, I cannot lower or higher my brightness settings. This laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium installed.
I recently updated my graphics card, or rather, the AMD Catalyst Control Center. Before installing that, the brightness control was working perfectly fine. Afterwards, it just stayed on 100% brightness and its killing my eyes. I tried going in to Control Panel > Device Manager > Monitor > Generic PnP Monitor > Uninstall > Scan for hardware changes, nothing worked. I tried adjusting the brightness level from both AMD CCC and Intel(R) HD Graphics, nothing. I tried booting up in to safe mode, still the brightness settings would not change. As it is right now, because I cannot stand the insanely bright screen I had to go in to CCC > My built-in displays > display color > Contrast to 20. It definitely dimmed the screen by a lot, and I can see a lot better now but my eyes still somewhat hurt from the incredibly bright light. Its a workaround, but I rather have this solved than have a workaround.
And the whole reason why I even updated the graphics card was because I continously have stutter when playing games and during cutscenes, but it seems that problem is still around...

Hi ZeroArmada,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 14 Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore. Here is a link to a document on how to rollback drivers in the device manager.
Thanks.
