Hello there!
If your friends are appearing online on Facebook but not on your Skype client connected to your Facebook account, it could simply be that the status update on the Skype client could be slower than being on the actual website. That, or it may be vice versa where Facebook is not displaying as fast as Skype is and that the recipient is actually offline. Nonetheless, you can try these troubleshooting steps to attempt to circumvent the issue:
Sign off of your Skype account and sign in again.
If the problem still persists, disconnect your Facebook account from Skype and reconnect it to see if it updates.
Unfortunately, if the two preceding troubleshooting steps do not work, you may be better off messaging through Facebook as your messages may be held while they are offline. This feature is probably only available through Facebook's web messenger.
If the issue is not yet resolved or if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to reply. Be sure to elaborate with all the information available to you about this, including steps you took to produce this issue or anything that could lead to help in finding a solution to the issue.

There is a certain minimum data rate your Internet service must support to do Video.

I recomend you install the Facebook App from the App Store.
Once you've done that and sucessfully logged in.
Turn your Ipad Horizontally, while in the Facebook App, and you'll be able to see the chat sidebar with all you're online friends.
Facebook video call isnt yet available for use on mobiles or tablets/ipads.

If your iPhone can't be updated to a higher iOS version then the only way to get them is if you downloaded versions of them which were compatible with iOS 4.2.1 and you still have copies of those versions somewhere e.g. on your computer or on a backup - only the current version of each app is available in the store, and as apps (and other content) are tied to the account that downloads them, you will need to have older copies that are linked to your id

"VintApps" has tons of available apps for all those earlier ios devices. And you can download them right to your ios device. Many are free. But once the vendor updates them past your maximum iOS, they can not be downloaded again. Therefore, be sure to backup your iTunes app library every so often.

Downloaded new OS and having trouble with wifi, bluetooth Facebook and Skype performance

When I first loaded this it had a lot of trouble finding my Wifi again and would disengage. Problem went away after a few hours but it recurred this am. Also affected Facebook.
Skype is loading more slowly and jumps to a black screen for 10-20 seconds. Then it will load and function but only for a few seconds to a minute and then shuts off completely.
Launching Skype also resultd in my bluetooth headset being disengaged sometimes.
Reinstalled Skype to see if that fixed anything.
Tried turning off bluetooth to see if that fixed the skype problem - nope still disengaged.
Cycled my router and cable and still no fix...
Running Z30
Would love to get a fix on this.

Given all of your issues, I'd guess that something did not go well with the update, and a clean reload would be in order. You accomplish that either through the LINK software or by obtaining an AutoLoader.

A Mac Mini s a computer you can use with the iPad.
YO do not need a computer fro backup since yo can backup to iCloud.
However, sometimes software glitches occur and require connecting the device to a compute to restore vi iTuunes.
You can control a computer via an iPod with an app like TeamViewer or LogMeIn. There are others too.
You can also use an iPad a a SECONDAY monitor for a computer. with other apps.
You need a dedicated monitor, keyboard and mouse to setup the Mini. You can use a PC USB mouse and keyboard.

Not sure what happened, but have you tried holding the sleep and home buttons until an apple apprears? This may restart your ipad.
If that doesn't get it going, you can take it to an apple store for an expert to test/fix as needed.
