Cant chat with a particular contact on BBM

I am totally furstrated and cant chat with a particular contact on BBM. I have tried reinstalling BBM many times. The contact shows up on my list. As soon as i send a message it says reinvite contact. When i hit reinvite nothing happens. The same happens with the other person when he tries to message me. And the best part is that we are unable to even delete each other. So we cant add again. So its a big mess. I so Hate BBM ! I am able to tok with others quite normally. Any help would be appreciated. RIM please dont release buggy BBM !

Cant Chat With Others on Different networks

Me and My girlfriend are able to chat between a PC and mac in my apt on my wireless network here but when we try and chat with others off the network we both have problems and errors keep being posted. I cant even do it with my brother who has another mac with the built in camera. Does anyone know how to fix this, Ive tried cruising the internet but all the forums i can find don't really help or say much. Thanks.

You have not said if the PC is set up for Bonjour so I presume you are using the AIM side of iChat.
It is possible that act of calling out is opening the ports required even though in effect you are calling yourself (or at least the same Public IP) and therefore data is allowed back in again.
You will probably need to open the ports in the routing device for iChat.
If she wants to do it on the PC then the ports for AIr will also need to be opened.
if the device has UPnP that is an On/Off setting that will do all the ports required. It allows the apps to control the ports.
If you can tell the devices ivolved in connecting to the internet and what you have done to set them up someone may be able to be more specific.

Can't Video Chat With A Particular Buddy

Hi,
I have a question. How come one of my buddies on ichat isn't available for video chatting? When I click on this particular buddy, the option to invite to video chat goes away. I can invite OTHER buddies to video chat but not this particular buddy. Why is that? This buddy uses aim and has an aim email. Can anyone tell how I can get ichat to allow me to video chat with this buddy? Thanks.

He needs to have a version of AIM if he is on a PC that is Video capable.
Which version of AIM is he using ?
If he is using the AOL package he will have had to engage the IM part.
If AIM app he will need to have allowed it through the windows firewall as an Exception.
So if he is Using AIM Express via a web browser he may not be Video capable.
He may not have a camera set up for his AIM app.
He may be using the AOL Package and not set up the IM part (it is not On by default)
He could be a Buddy with AIM for Mac which does not do Video and has not been updated since iChat 2 (2004)

Problems with one particular contact on Facetime

I am having problems connecting to my daughter via FaceTime, it rings for a while then gives the response that she is unavailable when I know she is. I am in France she is in England. I have no problem with other English connections. I switched off and on, and tried resetting time and date.

Make sure she have no restrictions set
Settings>General>Restrictions
Make sure her Date and Time is set to Automatic
Settings>General>Date & Time>Set Automatically

Can video chat with Aim users on a PC but not with Ichat users on Mac!

I am having the odd problem of being able to video chat with someone when they are using their pc running aim, but I cant chat with the same person when he on his Mac!
I am running as DMZ behind a Linksys WRT54G wireless router.
The problem is on my side because I cant chat with the test accounts either.
I tried this after bothe forwarding and triggering all the ports that were suggested.
I am stumped!

This is going to be down to the Staelite connection.
It has what is called latency.
This adds an unexceptable delay in the passing of data at the start of the connection.
Very few people have reported success.
The things you can try are to fool the link into passing more intense data prior to starting a chat.
If you have web pages try uploading a Pic of larger file to the site.
Just as this finishes start up iChat
You should also check that System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab has the speed to match you download set.
Hopefully (But no reported success) you may get iChat to see more bandwidth as you have just had the modem busy.
Following the launch of iChat with a video chat request may be able to get that bandwidth.
Realistically the 128 k upload even if you were getting close to it is very tight to the lowest point Apple say will work.
Speed testing a 128 k service i likely to get a result of about 80% of the figure (102k) iChat will use about 80 % of what is left (you are down to about 83K). You are now below the 100k min.
With regards to your LAN there are several things that may help if not set up already.
Only have one device doing DHCP. The way routers work as compared to modems is that they pass all routing data though to the computers.
This means the computers can be sitting in two subnets (1) from Modem to computer via router and (2) from Router. The computer can only display one of these IP addresses but can get confuse info regarding iChat.
Do not use Port Forwarding or Port triggering, twice or together on the LAN. iCHAT does not like two lots of NAT (bath are forms of Network Address Translation [NAT]).
Use UPnP where you can.
IF you are trying to test this yur Mac to your PC you ahve to allow for the fact that the modem is handling two Video chats in effect. This means you need twice the minimum bandwidth (let alone the fact that ichat to AIM semms to like 50% more than Mac to Mac contacts.

Is there a way to use iChat on Lion to communicate with my iCloud contacts using iMessage on their devices?

I currently have a MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad with working iMesagge, all these i use to chat with my iMessage contacts without conflicts, recently I've been assigned a MacBook in my job which can't be upgraded to Mountail Lion and currently has iChat 6 installed.
When i log in using iChat, it doesn't list any of my contacts. Adding them manually gets them in the buddy list but still doesn't allow to send them messages since they all appear offline.
I already signed in with my Apple ID in the MacBook, the same one I use with all my working devices mentioned above. There is only one user account in the MacBook which i have created since this computer has been assigned to me only.
Any ideas?

Messages is iChat+
The Plus bit being the Apple iMessages service.
Apart from the iMessages service both apps can join:
AIM (with AIM registered or AIM Valid Screen Names ending in @mac.com @me.com and @icloud.com from Apple)
Jabber (with names registered at Jabber servers. Two exceptions are GoogleTalk IDs and Facebook IDs)
iChat 6 and Messages can also Join Yahoo. Must be a registered Yahoo Name and not one of the ones that can be used with the Yahoo App itself.
All these chats will be AIM to AIM, Jabber to Jabber or Yahoo to Yahoo.
The confusing can be that each can use email looking names and IDs.
Jabber Names (with the exception of Google) are in the form of [email protected]
AIM registered names don't normally have any @AOL/AIM.com suffix but @ is an allowed character and as mentioned @mac.com, @me.com and @icloud.com names are also Valid.
Yahoo are also email looking names in the form [email protected]
This does tend to mean it is easy to add an email to any Buddy list and it is initially accepted as it conform the the format.
Mostly they will appear Off line in an AIM list and Awaiting Authorisation in a Jabber list.
iChat as such will not chat to your iMessages Contacts.
It is an extra service that the Message App can join in addition to AIM, Jabber or Yahoo.

Hello there!
If your friends are appearing online on Facebook but not on your Skype client connected to your Facebook account, it could simply be that the status update on the Skype client could be slower than being on the actual website. That, or it may be vice versa where Facebook is not displaying as fast as Skype is and that the recipient is actually offline. Nonetheless, you can try these troubleshooting steps to attempt to circumvent the issue:
Sign off of your Skype account and sign in again.
If the problem still persists, disconnect your Facebook account from Skype and reconnect it to see if it updates.
Unfortunately, if the two preceding troubleshooting steps do not work, you may be better off messaging through Facebook as your messages may be held while they are offline. This feature is probably only available through Facebook's web messenger.
If the issue is not yet resolved or if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to reply. Be sure to elaborate with all the information available to you about this, including steps you took to produce this issue or anything that could lead to help in finding a solution to the issue.

BBM Chat History stopped saving for a particular contact - Help!!!

Somebody please help me, for some reason the chat history for ONE contact ONLY has stopped saving the chat history since 26th March 2012 but I have done nothing??? If I search a word in a chat since then, it comes up but says 26th March but it wasnt it was yesterday? Any ideas anyone?

Just trying to back up my data. I have now closed my email account of my original email so cant receive email or remember security questions. Tried setting up another account but it doesnt allow access to iCloud. Now managed to lock my account for 8 hours. Unable to Chat with Apple as I dont have a contract. Tried submitting a telephone request - it just tells me to add a valid number (which I did offer up home and mobile) neither of which were accepted. So completely stuck after starting this 5 hours ago. Does anybody know if Apple has a telephone support contact number please that I can ring and actually speak to somebody? Thanks!

You'd selected the correct country for you and your iTunes account ? The form has validation to check that the phone number is valid for the country that you select.

Apple did not erase iChat.
Messages in Mountain Lion is iChat +
The plus bit is the fact you can iMessage iOS devices.
All the other features that were in iChat are still there.
If you upgraded Lion to get to Mountain Lion then in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars you probably list all the iChat Accounts (Screen Names and IDs).
You may need to enable them for Messages.
They should also show up in Messages Menu > Preference > Accounts
Once those accounts (AIM and Jabber) are Enabled they can be viewed in a Combined Buddy List
Windows Menu > Buddies (Or using CMD + 1 Keystrokes)
In the General Section of the Preferences you can Unlink these Buddy lists.
The Green icons or highlight a Buddy and then using the Buddies Menu or the icons at the Bottom of the Buddy list can be used the same way to start Video or Audio Only chats.
The iMessage "Account" is only for texting iOS devices or other people using their Apple ID on a Mac in Messages.
It is an account "in addition to" rather than "taking over from" the services that iChat can join.

Cannot chatting with user in BBM group

On BBM can I chatting with one member in group without add to contact list.
When I select one member in group to chat, it cannot, the msg box "BBM Contact does not exist, Invite to BBM"

When you create the attestation event, there is an Administrative Group on the drop down as well as Process Owner group on the task itself.
Have you defined either of these for the user who you want to see the task?

I have an iphone 4s, I installed Vtok but the video chatting part of the app is not working when I try to chat with my husband through gmail on his PC. Can I fix this or is there another app that will let me chat with my gmail chat contacts?

Vtok video chatting is not working on my iphone 4s. When I try to do a video chat with my gmail chat contacts who are using a PC we each only get the voice part of the chat and no video. You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

Cant connect with a PC please help trying to do Christmas CHAT.

Mac is set up with ISIGHT/ICHAT
PC is set up with LOGICTECH Quickcam Fusion/AOL Instant messenger.
So we can text message and we can even do an audio chat. But when it comes to Video it does not go through. When I(the mac) invite the PC, the PC sees the invitation and will accept. My window will even say that it has started the video chat but I cant see them, only myself.
When they invite me I never get the invitation and they just sit on there side.
They are in a hotel...could this be a factor with some firewall.
Any ideas. Please help. We are trying to set this up to video chat with my father for Christmas. four days to go.

Ok Networking basics 101
DHCP. Dynamic hosting by a networking device.
This can be the ISP server, your modem or a router if you have one as well. As both Macs and PCs can "Share this internet Connection" then technically then can be (do this) as well.
Lets presume that you have just a modem and your computer.
Lets presume you Mac is in default settings where it expects to use - or have sent to it - an IP from a DHCP server.
You can look this up on a Mac.
Go to System Preferences > Network.
In the second drop down select the connection method you are using to the modem (built in Ethernet or Airport for wireless).
Then click on the TCP/IP tab.
This should have a drop down that will confirm it is "Using DHCP"
This will mean that it is.
The type of IP shown under that will say if the modem is in bridge mode (by showing a Public IP) or a local private IP.
How to tell ?
Local devices start with certain numbers
192.168.xxx.xxx
10.xxx.xxx.xxx
172.16.xxx.xxx - 172.32.xxx.xxx
Further down the same info screen is the DNS server info if added
And the "router" IP.
This "Router" IP is the IP of the modem if it fits in to one of those three groups above.
If it shows the same number at the top spot as when you go here then the device is in Bridge mode and it is allowing the ISP issued IP to come through to your computer.
Tell us the info you see in this part of System preferences.

The "ROUTER" IP if in a Local number as shown above is likely to be the default for accessing it's set up pages in a web browser.
A Linksys modem is likely to be 192.168.1.1
A Netgear is likely to be 192.168.0.1
This page is likely to be helpful if you device is listed.
IF it is click on it.
On the next page click on iChat.
This will tell you the defaults (if they have not been changed) to use.
It will go on to ell you how to set Port Forwarding.
DO NOT DO THAT AT THIS STAGE.
Tell us what you can find out.
Is there anything in the Port Forward settings ?
Does the device have UPnP in any of the menus ? and is it Enabled ?
Does it have Port Triggering as an option and is anything set there ?

Back on the Mac go to System Preferences > Sharing
In here you will find the Firewall tab.
Click on It.
Does it say it is on ?
In the list are the Presets which may have ticks next to them (Even if the Firewall is Off) due to thinks set in the Services tab.
There is no Preset for the iChat login port, the AV ports or the Jabber ports. (there is a hangover preset from panther for Bonjour but the ports are on the wrong protocol and it misses one)
If the Firewall is On and you have not set the ports then you will need to.

Re NAT.
NAT is Network Address Translation.
It is the way your modem tells what data goes to which IP that is in use on the LAN it is controlling if it is the DHCP server. (it can also do it if you are Static i.e. No DHCP server and Manually given IPs).
Some devices like an Apple Airport Base Station NAT all data and do not require you to point it anywhere.
Most devices require that you point the data in some sort of way.
Port Forwarding is the oldest and most common.
This requires that you state which port the data should arrive on from the ISP side and which port is should go to on the LAN side listing an IP do go as well.
Generally this means that a port (say 5190 for iChat) can only be open for one IP (hopefully your computer).
Port Triggering also uses NAT.
DMZ (Demiltarised Zone) is an extreme form of Port Forwading that opens all the ports to one IP address but still uses NAT.
UPnP (Universal Plug and Play does not use NAT.
