Cant configure Apple USB mouse?

I have an Apple clear USB mouse (no right click or wheel, but has pressure buttons, model M5769) plugged into my eMac running 10.4.11. For some reason when I go to mouse settings I only get the option to change tracking and click speed, no options for setting up the pressure side buttons at all. Any ideas?
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I have no adjustment for that either in 10.4.11 with that Mouse, iirc I did at one time, maybe in 10.2/10.3(?), but when I did have it I had to disable them as they're positioned totally wrong for my paw & were always going off.
You can likely get their functions with USB Overdrive - 3.0.1 though...

I am on OSX 10.7.5 and recently had to reinstall it due to 'mail' not working correctly.  That problem was resolved but now my I can't use the 'right click' function on the apple usb mouse.  I only have a previous version re-install disc as I bought the latest OSX off the app store.  Any help gratefully received?

Hmmm, no, no drivers needed, now it sounds like a bad install... unless you might have some old Mouse software installed???
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • My Apple USB mouse is not working with Mac OS X 10.6.8

    Any ideas?
My USB Mighty Mouse is no more working with my Mac (OS X 10.6.8). I haven't used it for long, but now it doesn't work anymore.
When I plug it into the USB port, Mac does recognize it but it seems like frozen. Red light under the mouse is on, but no signs from the mouse.
I checked in the system profiler and the mouse appears among the USB hardware, as

  • 2010 iMac, SL 10.6.7 Apple USB Mouse won't open folders, files or drives- Suggestions??o

...open folders, files or volumes -- Suggestions?
Relaunched the "Finder", no change. Opened "Keychain Access" I also ran "Keychain First Aid"  also "Disk First Aid", Volumes and Permissions, Nothing Worked. There is one suspect in this mess, a USB TouchPad, it doesn't change the code, but patches on to the USB Mouse Code from Apple, same result.
Then, I went to System Preferences/ Accounts and created a new account, with the USB TouchPad in place. I log out and then back into the new account. Using the TouchPad and then the Mouse interchangeably, everything went just fine. I went back into the original account and got the same grief. I checked my "Norton FireWall"and the remaining attempts that were blocked. Once I get everything set up, back to my original account, I was back in the grief.
Does anybody have some suggestions? Thank you, for stopping by.

The correct answer came from Apple Tech Support, I called them. This was one of those problems that smacked you in the mouth and I couldn't figure where it was coming from. The Tech took me to my iMac System Preferences/Mouse and we talked about the settings. For some reason, the double-click option was set for fast, he suggested, I might want to adjust the speed to the halfway point. I did so and the problem is resolved. He took great patience with a grumpy, frustrated Old Veteran. Sir, Think You.
To: babowa, I have always used a firewall, even before they became popular, but before I would either remove or change Norton Anti-Virus or Norton  Firewall.  I'll always try a System Check and even break down and asks an Apple Tech for assistance for dealing with  additional assistance. Thank you, for your help!

  • Problem with bluetooth mouse setup at startup and no usb mouse functions

Today for the first time ever I got this screen for bluetooth mouse setup at startup. I've never seen this before and have no bluetooth devices. Very weird! It continues to search for a blue tooth mouse and won't let me do anything. The window says "Pairing with your bluetooth mouse. If the mouse is not found, make sure it is discoverable" My generic usb scroll mouse will not function and has always worked fine in the past. I tried plugging in the stock apple usb mouse also and this doesn't function either so there is no way to cancell this out. I've restarted several times and no luck ,can't login and no mouse functions. Just continues to search for a bluetooth mouse . This has me worried as this is recording studio computer and I have a session tomorrow . Any ideas how to get this to bypass this bluetooth window so I can startup and login and get my mouse functions back.
    thanks,Craig

Solved it on my end... Hope you're not afraid of using some Unix programming...
I went into Unix mode (start up holding command key and s-key down). black screen with lines of white type pop up. (Means you are now in Unix mode). Give it a few minutes to check all the computer and when it no longer keeps adding any further info on screen type "fsck -fy", that is fsck space minus sign fy and without the quotation marks - exactly as shown inside quotation marks, and hit enter. It will run for several minutes detecting all that makes your computer work... I had in the final lines a message that read "file system modified". If this is the case than re-enter the fsck -fy command. Repeat this until one of the final lines will read "the volume appears to be OK". (I only had to do it twice to get to it). At this stage type "reboot". My mac restarted and I could log in without any sign of the annoying bleutooth mouse message. Hope it will work for you too!

  • Why don't my Apple USB keyboard and mouse work in Win XP after bootcamp driver installed

    Hey there,
I just installed Win XP Pro + SP2 using Bootcamp 3.0 on my Mac Pro 1.1 (2006) which is running Snow Leopard (10.6.8).  The Win XP installation went flawlessly and everything seemed to be working OK (mouse & keyboard were fine) until I installed the Bootcamp drivers from my OS X installation DVD.  The installation didn't report any problems, but when it was finished, the keyboard (Apple USB keyboard) and mouse (Logitech USB mouse) stopped responding.  No power to the mouse at all makes me believe that it is actually the USB drivers themselves that have failed.  Rebooting WinXP didn't solve the problem - it boots WinXP just fine (and fast!), shows the Bootcamp Help screen, but no mouse or keyboard, a.k.a., USB, response.
Can I recover from this somehow?
    Help please?
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Problem solved.
It seems that the boot camp 3.0 drivers installed from my 10.6.8 DVD weren't sufficient.  I repeated the install from scratch, but rather than rebooting as soon as the BC 3.0 drivers were installed, I allowed the Apple Update utility to D/L and install the BC 3.1 and 3.2 updates.  Viola!  Everything works brilliantly.  My Mac Pro is now the best Windows PC I have ever owned

  • HT2499 I cant get my external Apple USB SuperDrive to recognize any of my dvds?

I cant get my external Apple USB SuperDrive to recognize any of my dvds. It only recognizes installation cds. Is there something I can do or is the device faulty?

Here are some troubleshooting ideas. The DVD read portion of the Superdrive may have failed. The CD uses a different reader based on what I was told by an Apple Store Genius when mine failed.

If you live near an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment to have the computer and Superdrive tested. Supposedly there is no charge for testing.

  • Apple USB modem configuration

I'm trying to connect to Netzero with the imac dualcore and an Apple USB modem. Netzero prompts the modem is configured improperly, and when I go into the network preferences to fix it, only INTERNAL modems are listed. There is no option to select a usb modem. Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated.

Open Network, select the Internal Modem port and
click on the Configure button. Click on the Modem
tab. From the drop down Modem list select Apple
Internal 56K Modem (v.90). Click on Apply Now
button. Click on the PPP tab and set the Configure
IPv4 drop down menu to DHCP and click on the Apply
Now button. Check your PPP configuration to be sure
you have the correct telephone number, userid, and
password to log into your account. If you make any
changes click on the Apply Now button before quitting
    Network.
Kappy, thanks for the tips. In the PPP tab, there is no drop down menu for DHCP. Also, when I hit apply, the password field magically changes from my 6-character password, to a 20 character password. I change it back and try to connect, and get an error message from Netzero that my modem settings are incorrect.

    1. I have tried copying the Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse drivers to the $WinPEDriver$ directory with mixed success on a 2012 MBP.
    2. My experience is based on a 2013 rMBP. You may be able to use an Apple USB Keypad/Mouse to better success.
    3. See http://www.macworld.com/article/2460820/macbook-pro-mid-2014-review-minor-update -offers-slightly-better-cpu-performance.html for HW differences between the two machines.
    4. If you have access to a 2013 rMBP, I can suggest trying to build the USB on that and working with the USB to see if you can make it install Windows. the rMBP 2014 and rMBP 2013 have the same HW, except some CPU changes. You can also try building the USB at the nearest Apple store, if possible.
    5. There is a section in AutoUnattend.xml, which is supposed to install all drivers in $WinPEDriver$ (see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2686316 )

  • Usb mouse doesnøt work on snow leopard 10.6.8

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a MacBook, my USB Mac mouse became erratic then stopped working entirely. I tried a wireless USB mouse. That also worked for a while, but it too then stopped. Please help. I'm not a Mac geek, so need to be held by the hand a little. Thanks for your help.

    Mkeschinger,
I was using it with 10.6.8 for a long time till now.
Actually here is how you configure with snow leopard, by apple:

But is not working for me.
I gave up already. I will probably use the forward email function in the icloud, and slowly move to gmail.

  • Apple USB Modem not Recognized

eMac 700MHz, 256 MB RAM. OS 10.4.8 with all current updates. USB seems to work fine for keyboard and Mouse. This eMac has no internal modem, so I got the Apple USB Modem.
The modem is not seen by the operating system. I open the Network Preference Pane, and all I see is Ethernet. If I try to add a network port, I only see Ethernet, 6 to 4, and Firewire.
I tried a 2nd Apple USB modem with identical results. I can't help thinking there should be some command-line magic or nvram hack, or maybe a firmware upgrade that will make this thing work.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Various   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

in the network preferences do you have configure ipv4 set to ppp? from here there should be a modem tab where you can select your modem from a (very long)list. if you have already done this, have you checked your system profiler to see if the modem is detected when it is connected??

  • Erratic USB mouse movement.

I'm having an issue which I believe is common, however I cant find a proper answer to it.
I have a 3Button USB mouse plugged in, and whenever the cursor goes near anything clickable, the mouse pointer slows down and then speeds up again as I move over the icon/link/control.
I originally thought this was some kind of accessibility feature, I noticed the issue on my universities Mac computers last year.
Some of the software I use for my work requires a 3button mouse, and this problem is making those programs completely unusable.
I have tried numerous USB mice from different manufacturers and no 3rd party drivers or mouse controlling software has been installed.
Is there any way to fix this? the wireless mouse the iMac came with seems unaffected, but It does not support Middle or 2button mouse clicks which I need to do my work.
    Thankyou.

This is likely caused by the software that came with your TP mouse. I have experienced a similar problem in the past.
Forst thing I would check is go to system preferences and look for one labeled with the Mouse's brand name (i.e. Logitech) and see if you can disable any predictive clicking options.
Having said this the [Magic Mouse|http://www.apple.com/magicmouse> that came with your iMac certainly does support two-button clicking - you need to enable in from System Preferences > Mouse as it is not enabled as default.

  • Apple USB keyboard does not work on PC (Windows 8)

I am trying to use my USB Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad with my PC that is running Windows 8 but it will not work. It does not respond at all. It works fine with a USB mouse and a different keyboard.
Are there any drivers that are required?

I'm facing the same problem, found any solutions ?

  • MSI 880GM-e35 Wakeing up from sleep by USB mouse or USB keyboard

I have two 880gm-e35 boards that will not wake up from sleep by Keyboard or mouse. (S3) sleep condition.
-They wake up by tapping the power button..ok.
On the E-35 boards If I set the (S1) Sleep condition where the fans stay on and power light does not blink, they wake up by USB mouse.
I have a 880gm-e43 that does wake up from (S3)  sleep by usb mouse or keyboard.
They are configured about the same, the E43 has a couple more options in that area but basically the same.
Is that normal, The Bios kind of implies that it should wake up from S3, but no luck.
Not a big deal, but I would prefer the USB wakeup, if possible..!

Thanks for the reply. On the right track, but could not find that option.
maybe I will look to see if they have other bios options for that board.
    Thanks again...
