Cant connect & cannot update

I used skype every day for years until a few days ago when as soon as it starts it says
"skype can't connect"
after trying for days to connect i thought perhaps the problem persists because i keep refusing update. So if i accept update it will start working... but when i try to update it says another error message:
"Updating Skype Error
The specified sccount already exists
Installing skype failed code 1603"
what on earth is going on?

i think i had this same problem, and it's becuase i had 'AIRPORT MODE' turned on when i updated. now it installed everything but is stuck on the 'plug into itunes' screen. when i plug it in, it says "unable to complete itunes store request. -check you network settings" my phone cant connect to the itunes store because its still on airplane mode.
I can't even restore it..
how can I fix this and take it off airplane mode?

Help with connection. cannot update, cannot connect to itunes store

itunes store, software update, my olympus firmware update software, even the network "connection assistant" cannot connect to the server. I am told "the network connection was refused" or "cannot connect to the server". I tried the DNS link and it took me to the apple homepage, but fully functional. Firefox and Mail work just fine. Help?

Yes, have an active internet connection.
Has router has been rebooted, all software on computer been updated.
When connecting it to TV it only shows that I should connect it with cable to iTunes.
So cant change anything on the ATV.
And when trying to restore it, it cant connect to update server..

If you use Lion, boot into your recovery pressing Command and R buttons, press "Utilities" menu, open Terminal and write:
resetpassword

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

I cannot connect to ITunes after updating to IOS 7.0.2,cannot update my apps nor download new apps. When I tap the quick test for IOS diagnostics it says it cannot verify the ticket number.

After updating to IOS 7.0.2 in my Ipad mini I cannot update my apps nor download new apps . It says "cannot connect to ITunes. " it's been almost 3 wks now. I have tried resetting it and trying other options like changing the DNS to just 8.8.8 etc but to no avail. I try to run the IOS diagnostics but it couldn't verify my ticket number. Everytime I open my mail it cannot identify server identity " Apple.imap.yahoo.com." But I just clicked "continue" anyway so I could get my mail.

your phone is in recovery mode, which means your data is already lost. hopefuly you've been keeping regular backups

Help needed to update a 4th gen ipod touch running version 4.3.5 (8L1) to the latest 6.0 version. When I connect and try to update i keep getting a box which states that a connection error occured and I cannot update.
I have been given a new laptop for xmas which runs on windows 8, and the new itunes version (which is in itself a hurdle as I am a technophobe!) and this is all becoming a bit fustrating.
I have connected, updated and synced my iphone successfully, but just hit a brick wall on the ipod. (which incidentally maybe where this laptop will end up!!)
Help if you can, but in laymans terms.......

Let me get this straight...... I have paid for content on itunes, bought the apple devicds in order to play said content, now I have to subscribe $25 for the privilage of playing MY library content on MY other devices. Which wasn't such an issue to do before the new and improved itunes version!!
Have I got that correct. I think I cannot associate my other iOS devices with my library because I am unwilling to pay further through the nose!!!??? or am I missing something?

Are you running Leopard on your Mac, Laurie?
If so, try instead updating to iTunes 10.6.3.25. (That supports earlier models of iPhones running iOS 6, even though it can't run the new iPhone 5s.)

Hi, I have the iPhone 4, 32GB, version 4.3.5 (8L1) and for some reason when I connect it to the laptop, it starts synchronising but never goes beyond step 1. It goes on syncing forever, without actually doing anything. I have tried everything, wiped the phone numerous times, deleted all files from the laptop but still no resolution. As a result, the phone does not really synchronise.
This started somewhere in May 2011 when I upgraded what proved to be a problematic s/w version and the phone has not recovered since.
Now I cannot update the iPhone s/w any longer.
Any clue?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

Maunally restore it. In order to do this:
-Download the iOS 5.1.1 firmware from here http://www.redmondpie.com/download-5.1.1-ios-for-iphone-4s-4-3gs-ipad-ipod-touch -direct-official-links/
1. After downloading the firmware from the given link, open iTunes and click on your device.
2. Now press SHIFT on your keyboard and while pressing it click on "Restore".
3. A dialog box will appear.
4. Select the firmware you downloaded and click ok.
5. Done!!! Your iPhone will now be restored to 5.1.1 and if you had backed up your iPod before, then you can put all its settings afterwards.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

What version of iTunes do you have installed? If you are trying to update to iOS 6 you need iTunes 10.7 or later.
