Cant connect my Ipod to my computer

My ipod disconnect from my windows vista computer randomly and I am unable to reconnect my devise unless i restart my ipod. This is getting very annyoing and I'm starting to loose my patience.

- Try another cable.
- Try another USB port
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Try on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem

Try force rebooting it, hold down the power and home button for 10 seconds until the apple boot logo comes up. If that doesn't work, try rebooting your computer.

  • I cant connect my iPod 3g anymore...

I've recently had to get my computer reimaged, and since I have gotten it back I have not been able to authorize my iPod to it.
I really dont want to loose all of the files on my iPod, or all of the playlists.
I have re-authorized my apple ID to the computer, I've searched help forums, and I've tried as hard as possible. I can't find a solution at this very moment.
    Can someone please help me?

What do you mean by not working?
    - To transfer iTunes purches to the computer see:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Ther ae many third-party programs that will transfer non-iTunes purchased music to the computer.  I do not know if then do playlist. Here are some.
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - There are some good paid programs like TouchCopy and PhoneView that do more.
    - Once everthing is on the cmputer, you neect to connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restioe the iPod from that backup, The retains app data nd othe info on the iPod.

  • Why does it tell me to go to support and I cant find my ipod on my computer or itunes?

Why does it tell me to go to support and I cant find my ipod on my computer or itunes?

Dude I totally have that same problem with mine. I've done all the trouble shooting I possibly can.  It's so aggrivating because I can't put anything on it or take anything off of it.  The charger cord does have kind of a little slit in in but I'm not sure if this is the problem.  My suggestions are to contact apple themselves, at least that's what I'm doing.

  • If an iPod is stolen, can you track it when they try to connect the iPod to another computer?

If an iPod is stolen, can you track it when they try to connect the iPod to another computer?

No.  You can only track it if you had setup the FindMyiPhone feature and some other constraints.

  • Connecting old iPod to new computer

My previous computer was ruined by a power surge and it wasn't fixable. I no longer have it but I have my iPod with 5000+ songs on it (200+ I downloaded off iTunes). I don't want to lose whats on my iPod but I have a new computer and want to hook up to it and start downloading and managing my iPod again. Do I have any options?

If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer.
If you want to copy your songs from your iPod there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
There's a command in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" you can check out. A paragraph on it has also been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.
