Cant connect two linksys routers to each other.

well the routers we have are the WRT54G and the WRTSL54GS but i m not sure about the second one (it has three antenna) . so we have the WRT54G hooked to the modem and its recieving internet and working with the (wired) main computer. so now we have to go about 1 block away to a neighbors house. and we set up the WRTSL54GS set up 1/3 of the way. now the laptop a block away from the main computer is recieving a signal (3 bars) from the WRTSL54GS. but it can not connect to the internet. what am i doing wrong?
Main comp-WRT54G----------------------WRTSL54GS--------------------------------------------------------laptop

Both routers are “transmit” devices and were not made to talk to other routers. You would need a wap54g or third-party firmware to make your router an access point.

  • Interconnecting two Linksys Routers

I have two linksys routers WRT54G with Internet IP 10.254.1.58 and LAN IP 192.168.1.1 and the second Router WVRS4400N with Internet IP Address 10.254.1.67 and LAN IP 192.168.1.1. Both Routers use same Internet Gateway 10.254.1.1 and Subnet 255.255.255.0.
In WRT54G Router, there is a network Printer 192.168.1.50 connected to its LAN Port. Since both Routers are within the same building and the users connected to WVRS4400N cannot PRINT in the Network Printer connected to WRT54G Router. I would like to have users connected to both Routers to be able to share this Network Printer. Please help me how I can do Routing within the two Routers. Please HELP.

Let me know the kind of connection you are using .... are you using WRT54G router behind WRVS4400N router or vice versa .,....
Also let me know is the connection coming from any router ??

  • Help, Issues Connecting two Wireless Routers

Ahead of time I would like to thank everyone for their responses and help. I tried to be as clear as possible. I believe I got all the details right. Some things are repetitive and might be a little confusing,  but please ask questions for any clarification. Thanks  for the help.
    Current Routers:
    1. Linksys WRT600N ---- Used as primary router. Connected to the 4 ports are 3 PCs and a wireless router. All three PC have static IPs I reservered, also have a static IP reserved for the WGT624 wireless router. DMZ is also enabled and destination is the IP reserved for WGT624.
    2. Netgear WGT624 ----  WGT624 is connected to WRT600N through  the WAN port on the WGT624 to port number X on the WRT600N . I was using Netgear WGT624 as an access point for a Xbox360 , a couple of macs and  ubuntu netbook.  This router recently died needs to be replaced.
    3. Linksys E3000 ---- Recently purchased to replace the Netgear WGT624 that has died. I want to use this as my new access point. Having trouble setting up the settings for this router. I want the same setup as before.
    Detailed Problem
I currently have the WRT600N located in the basement connected to a cable modem through the WAN port. Connected to the 4 ports on the back of WRT600N are 3 PCs and a Wireless router. Most of the settings on the WRT600N I left alone. The only thing I changed was reserving 4 IPs for the 3 PCs and the WGT624 wireless router. I also enabled the DMZ for the destination IP of the WGT624.  I also opened a couple of ports.
The Netgear WGT624 that died was located on the upper level third floor. I was using it primarily as an access point. It was connected through the WAN port  of the WGT624 to port X on the WRT600N which is located in the basement. Settings on this are a little different. On the WGT624 I disabled the firewall. I left both the Auto DHCP enabled and the DHCP server. WPA was enabled on the WGT624. With these settings on the WGT624 I was able to connect to a xbox 360 and a few macs wirelessly to the internet with no issues .  I also noticed that the the internet IP displayed on the status tab on the WGT624 was the IP I had reserved on the WRT600N.
Recently the WGT624 died after  years of usage. So I purchased a Linkys E3000. I want to have a similar setup as before with the WGT624. However I have been running into issues. Wirelessly I cannot get access to the internet through the E3000. The E3000 is connected to the WRT600N in the same was as the WGT624. The WAN port of the E3000 is connected to the port number X of WRT600N.  On the status tab of the E3000 I seem to be getting a strange Internet IP address. 127.0.0.1. This I think is a loopback address, I am not sure? Same with the subnet mask of 255.0.0.0
So the problem is I want the keep the same setup as before if I can. I don't want to the any computers who connect to the access point to have access to any computers that are connected to the 600N.
I read on another thread I could connect two wireless routers together by connecting port X on the 600N to port X on the E3000.   Then changing the internal IP of the second router from 192.168.1.1 to 198.168.1.2 and then disabling the DHCP server.
I really want to keep the same set up as before if posslble. More importantly I want to know why my setup prior, the WRT600N  to the WGT624 worked with no problems. Why could I use the WGT624 as an access point and not the E3000? Should I switch the the two routers use the 600N as the access point and E3000 as my main router?
    Thanks again.

    1. You have chained two routers. The WRT600N uses LAN IP address 192.168.1.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The Netgear is connected with the WAN port to the WRT (thus uses an 192.168.1.* address on the WAN port) and uses 192.168.0.1 by default on the LAN side. Your new E3000, however, uses the Linksys default 192.168.1.1 on the LAN side. If you connect the E3000 to the WRT600 without making any changes it won't work. A router cannot work if WAN and LAN side both use 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0. That's impossible.
    2. Thus, the quick and easy setup to get the same as before would be to change the LAN IP address of the E3000 from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1. After that change you can connect the internet port of the E3000 to the WRT and everything works like before.
    3. However, in particular because you need port forwarding and you do port forwarding through two routers I would recommend not to run two routers chained. I can't see why it is necessary for you to run two routers and two separated networks. The basic setup and an explaination why a different setup may be better is here. I think in your case it would make things much simpler and you have full connectivity between all your computers. You can set up a roaming wireless network, too. The only problem is that you will "loose" one port on the E3000 because you cannot use the internet port.

  • Connecting two RV082 routers back to back

I'm looking for instructions on how to setup and connect two RV082 routers together with a crossover cable between their WAN ports.
This is to connect two separate LANS together via an ethernet connection. For staging we are setting everything up with a crossover cable in our shop.  Ultimately the crossover cable will be replaced by a microwave link between the two LANS several miles apart.  There will be no internet connection.

Switches would have been a good alternative except we needed 8 ethernet ports, so 16 port swirtches would have been required.  So the cost is about the same in this situation for 8 port routers.
We have the system working properly now.
    This is what we did:
On both routers in "Setup: Advanced Routing"  switch from "gateway" to  "router" , enable RIP and set RIP versions for transmit and receive to  RIPv1.
    In "Firewall", disable Firewall
    Then in "Setup: Network" make the following settings;
    Router 1:
WAN1 IP to static       static      192.168.10.5           with subnet mask of                     255.255.255.252
LAN IP           to                     192.168.1.1                     with subnet mask of                     255.255.255.0
    Router 2:
WAN1 IP to static      static     192.168.10.6           with subnet mask of                     255.255.255.252
LAN IP to                     192.168.2.1                     with subnet mask of                     255.255.255.0
With these settings, devices connected to router 1 may have static  addresses in range of 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.254 and should have  default gateway set to 192.168.1.1
Devices connected to router 2 may have static addresses in range of 192.168.2.2 through 192.168.2.254
and should have default gateway set to 192.168.2.1
Experts may have some comments to make about firewall settings an so forth but this setup does what we want it to do.

  • Two Users can connect to apleu3test02 but not each other

    Hello,
I have been trying to connect to with my wife whom is on a road runner cable modem behind a belkin wireless router. I am on a comcast cable modem behind a linksys wrt54gv4 router, however it is flashed with an open source firmware. Both of us can connect to the various test users out there but we have intermitent issues connecting with each other. I am guessing that this could be partially due to our maximum uploads being about 345kbps. I have not setup any port forwarding, triggering, or ther router adjustments yet. I figured if I can connect to the apple test users it should not be a problem. I am working on trying to test without my router but comcast will not let me mac grab a dhcp address. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Me = macbook pro 2ghz with 2gb ram 10.4.7
    Wife = 1.67 g4 ibook with 512 mb ram 10.4.7

I'm having the exact same problem. My father and I were able to communicate for weeks with no issues and since updating to 10.4.7 we have a 90% failure rate with video chat. It worked once last night and once this morning otherwise its an error -8.
Now until recently we have never port forwarded anything except VNC and I can't see how we could use this method with iChat when we have numerous users here at home.
I think the most frustrating part is it works from time to time and I can find the reason why.

  • Limited to no connectivity on linksys routers only.

I recently moved into a new house and bought a wireless router.
In my neighborhood there are two linksys wireless routers (including mine), both named differently, as well as a belkin wireless router.
When I try to connect to my router with my wireless connection, I receive the message "limited to no connectivity" yet I have full strength. However, I also have another computer in my household that is connected via ethernet cord which connects perfectly fine.
Considering this isn't working, for kicks I try to connect to my neighbors belkin connection.  Surprisingly this works perfectly fine.  After this I try connecting to another neighbors linksys router and I get the "limited to no connectivity" message yet again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Reqless

Im bad with the terminology, so the only thing I found in network connections was the local area connection as well as the wireless network connection.  The adapter is a totally different thing right?  The adapter is what im using to access the signal from my router, correct?  If this is right, im using a Linksys WUSB300N model.  It connects to the computer via USB and connects through its own program, rather than through windows.
[road2cycle] Yes, the wireless adapter is what you plug into your USB port.  From what you wrote, it appears that Windows recognizes it (wireless network connection).  If you open this and click the Support Tab what does it say?  When you connect to your neighbor's wireless network what does it say?
Also I forgot the username and password to change settings on the router by entering "192.168.1.1" into my url.
[road2cycle] The default is to leave the user name blank and the password is admin.  If you set the password during initialization and forgot it you'll have to reset the unit.
There are two ways to reset the Router’s
factory defaults. Either press and hold the Reset
Button for approximately five seconds, or restore
the defaults from Administration > Factory
Defaults in the Router’s web-based utility.
Finally, I didnt know if this would help anything.  But the linksys program I use to connect to the internet is showing this under link information:
    IP address: 169.254.44.20
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
    No Defualt Gateway
    No DNS1
[road2cycle] I use a cable modem, and I believe the Gateway and DNS server are automatically assigned / detected when I connect to the internet.  If you are able to access the internet, through one of your router's wired (RJ-45) ports then I don't think this is an issue.

  • Cascading two linksys routers

I am trying to cascade my two WRT54GL routers, but can't get my second router to see internet.
    My problem:
I want to have to separate wireless networks. One network from router 1 (main router, both wireless and wired IP "clients") and a pure wireless network from router 2. I want to be sure that the guy in 1st floor that shares my adsl connection, is using the wireless network from router 2, and dont have access to network from router 1.
I thought I could accomplish this following alt 2 on the link:
Cascading the linksys router to Another Linksys Router (WAN-LAN)http://www.extremepcmakeovers.com/tips/ho w-tos/cascade_linksys/
    My setup is:
    The main router IP. 10.104.211.197
specified as gateaway in router seup
DHCP server gives out IP adresser from 10.104.211.65 to 10.104.211.xx.
I have internet connection using network from main router. All the IP clients/ consumers connected to main router has internet connection.
So now I want to isolate the guy in first floor to another network. I have connected ethernet cable from my main router LAN to my second router WAN (internet side).Second router is specified as gateaway IP 10.104.211.70
DHPCP server and gives out IP adresses from 10.104.211.71 to 10.104.211.xx
Router IP adress is not taken by IP clients connected to main router, that means no IP conflict. But I can not get internet connection from second router.
I really appreciate if someone could help me with this.

I did get some help using live chat with linksys support yesterday. I now have internet connection from both networks. It is working now without configuration in the advanced routing tab. On both routers default values are used there (gateway and no destination IP are given).
    Here is my setup:
    Router 1= main router
Router 2 have cable from router 1 port 3 to internet side of router.
Router 1 is configured as DHCP server with local ip adress of 10.104.211.197, and gives out IP adresses starting from 10.104.211.64
Router 2 is configured as a static IP with local IP adress of 10.104.210.70, and internet IP adress 10.104.211.50
gateaway and static DNS1 is defined as the local IP adress of router 1.
    DNS2 is defined as 4.2.2.2
Router 2 gives out IP adresses from 10.104.210.71.
    In the status tab
Router 1 has the IP adress, gateaways, DNS1 of 193.xxxxxxxxx
Router 2 has login type static, ip adress 10.104.211.50, default gateaway and DNS1 as local IP adress of router 1.
So using this configuration I now have two separated networks that both can see internet. However, I have lost the internet connection several times the last 30 hours. I suspect there is something in my setup that leads to a unstable router/routers. When I loose internet connection I go to the status tab on router 1 and sees that the IP adresses are not 193.xxx but "default" values like 10.0.0.138 etc...so I then have to release and reneaw DHCP before I am online again.
Does anyone have any clue if my setup gives poor stability???

  • Connecting two EA2700 routers (wireless) and enable LAN connection on both

    Hi all,
I have just bought two EA2700 routers, and I simply cannot perform the setup.
I have the first router connected to the modem, and need the secon router to connect to the first through wireless to extend the range. Secondly, I want to enable LAN connection from the second router to e.g. a computer, PS4 etc.
After having spend a lot of time on searching for at guide, I have given up... I really hope, that you are able to help me on this matter.
    Thanks a lot in advance..

Hello Acsadac. Are you setting up the 2nd EA2700 to act as a range extender (wirelessly connected to the 1st EA2700)? If you are, then it's not possible. You can do one of two things, though.
    1. LAN to LAN. Configure the 2nd EA2700 as a switch. This will act akin to a range extender (for both wired and wireless connections) but you'll be using a long ethernet cable.
    2. LAN to WAN. Configure it as a secondary router. This way, you have 2 separate wireless networks in one connection. Again, you will need a long ethernet cable for this kind of setup.
Here's a link on how to configure the 2 EA2700s:

  • Connecting two EA6500 routers via wireless bridge

Hi, I want to know how can we bridge two EA6500 routers via wireless. I do not want to use the lan cable. Please help.
    Thanks,
    anandp

This setup is not possible. You can only cascade the routers via wired connection. The access points on these routers are mainly transmitters, they're not receivers so you can't associate them wirelessly. You can, however, get a wireless bridge to do the job. Check out the Dual Band N Entertainment Bridge WET610N and Wireless N Universal Media Connector WES610N.

  • I cant connect to my routers IP address.

Hi, I  have tried just about everything I looked up belkin router and stuff found my routers IP  which is 192.168.2.1 and i cant connect i looked on CMD and i found gateway ip and tried that I still can connect can anyone help me?
Message Edited by Fauzool on 11-06-200607:59 PM

First, verify that you got your router IP address correctly.  Go to command prompt and type ipconfig.  It should be the IP address listed under default gateway
If you do not get a default gateway from the previous step, verify that your network cable is correctly connected from your computer to the router's LAN port.  Try the above steps again.  Verify if you really have a connection by checking if your laptop adapter's lights are blinking AND you can ping your router's IP address (e.g. ping 192.168.1.1 from a command prompt)
Next, open your browser and connect to your default gateway (router's IP address).  You should be able to see the correct screen.
I also had the same problem when I first used a similar router.  If the above does not work, try powering down the router, wait 10 seconds, turn it on again and repeat the above steps.
    Hope this helps.

  • Replay DVRs can connect to Internet, but not each other through new AEBS

I have a new AEBS and have had a few problems with it. After experiencing a lot of signal dropping I rolled the firmware back to 7.2 and that seemed to fix those issues.
Unfortunately, I'm still having one major problem. I have two RePlay DVRs wired to the AEBS. They can both connect to the Internet. (I know this because the TV guides are continuing to update.) But they cannot talk to each other. They should recognize each other and I should be able to watch files on one machine with the other. I could do this with no problem with my previous router. Does anyone else have this problem?? Anyone have any ideas on what to do??

Can anyone give me a clue? Should I exchange the AEBS, or is there a setting I could tweak??
