Cant copy a playlist to ipod

Cant copy a playlist to ipod (classic & others) from latest Itunes 11.0.1.12 Windows XP
Draging and dropping a playlist or even a song from a playlist doesn't bring up the RHS 'transfer Window'
Everything else (eg. songs, albums, even radio) all bring up the window - obviously you copy a radio station but it does, at least, bring up the window pane
Any ideas?
Many Thanks.
Alex.
Additional :
Both  Ipods set to "Manually Manage Music". Tried resetting Smaller one.
I can happily transfer a song, an album, even an entire Genre, but nothing Playlist related.

You can get the files off the iPod back onto your PC.

  • Copy edited playlists FROM iPod BACK TO iTunes?

The iPod Touch allows the ability to edit playlists right on the device. But at the moment, this feature is useless to me, because by default the sync treats the iTune playlist as the master copy. Why I sync, my edits are lost and all of the deleted songs are restored.
Having edited a playlist on the iPod Touch, how do I copy that edited playlist back to iTunes?
Here's why I want to do this. With 130 GB of music and an 8 GB iPod Touch obviously I sync "only selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres." As a classical music listener my "songs" tend to be large. I maintain a "Current" playlist into which I add the miscellaneous things I want to listen to. When I've listened to, say, an hour-long sympohny on my iPod Touch, I want to delete it immediately to make from the "Current" playlist and make room for new content.
I don't want to carry a little notebook with me to note down what I've listened to so I can delete that days later in iTunes. Within the "Current" playlist, I basically want to "delete after listening."

Then you can copy them back through iTunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848

  • Copy one playlist to iPod

    Hi there,
My friend is creating a playlist for an event that she will be playing off her iPod. We would like to use my iPod as a backup, by copying only that particular playlist onto my iPod, rather then her entire library, or replacing mine. Is this even possible?
    Thanks!

FYI for anybody else trying to do this, here is what I found. (It wasn't intuitive :-)
plug your ipod into the computer and open iTunes.
Select the device - "your" ipod.
Then go to the menu bar across the top and select music.
Hit "synch music" (you have to hit this before you can select "entire library" or "select lists")
Then select " select playlists..." and choose the lists you want.
Hit "Apply", wait for it to think, then when the button changes from "apply" to :sync", hit "sync".
    My experience:
I had already synched this ipod, so an older version of my entire library was on there. When I hit synch, I got an error about some songs not being copied because they couldn't be listened to on the ipod (incompatible formats). OK. I hit ok and that dialogue box disappeared and then...
So, since most of the songs were already on there, the update was very quick - I didn't even see anything happen - I got no status showing things being copied, etc. So I thought something was wrong, but I looked at the content on my ipod and I see that it has indeed been updated.
The "Music" list (ie entire library??) is now gone from the iPod and I only see the playlists I just selected to copy.

  • How do I copy my playlists (not actual music files) from iPod to iTunes

Hello all - I have two hard drives. One for my music files and one for everything else. My "everything else" hard drive crashed over the weekend. This is also where I had iTunes installed. I have all of my actual music files on the other hard drive, so thats not the problem. However, my wife, son, and myself all have iPods - each with its own "playlist". Is there a way to copy the playlist from the iPods to iTunes. I had iTunes setup to automatically update my iPods with any changes to the playlist. Id hate to have to recreate the playlists from scratch.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for the quick response, wow, I'm gonna need to take a few days off from work having to email myself 391 times! Appreciate the help

After you have downloaded the 1.2.1 firmware, plug your iPod in and select it from under the Devices section in the left hand of iTunes.  Hold down the Alt key and press the Restore button. It should bring up a file browser/Windows Explorer window allowing to select an IPSW file. Browse out to where the file is stored on your PC and select it.  Then let the restore process complete.

  • How do i copy a playlist from my ipod to my iphone or ipad?

I have been trying to copy playlists from my iPod to my iPhone and iPad, but the only music that syncs is purchased music.  How do I get my other music on my other devices?  I have had the iPod for a while (classic) and just recently purchased the iPhone and iPad, so I am a newby.  Suggestions from other boards that i have tried have been unsuccessful.

Is this non-iTunes store purchased in your iTunes library? If so, simply configure it to sync to your iPhone and iPad the same way it is set up to sync to your older iPod.
If this other music is only on your older iPod and not in iTunes, you'll need to get it there first before you can sync it to the other two devices. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • How can I copy a playlist in order to ipod shuffle

I am tryig to copy a playlist to the iPod shuffle and can't manage to cophy it in the same order.  I have selected "manually manage music" and I have turned off shuffling in the device.  I have tried everything, from copying the songs one by one, to copying the playlist manually.  I don't succeed and have no idea how it determines in which order to place the songs.  Help !!!!

If you are using the Manually manage music setting, select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click the little triangle next to the shuffle, so that it points down.  You should see the shuffle's "content" indented under the shuffle.
Right-click on the shuffle and select New Playlist.  A new playlist should appear (which you can name), indented under the shuffle.  When you drag songs to the shuffle, instead of dragging them to the "overall" shuffle, drag them to this playlist.  When you select this playlist under the shuffle, on the list to the right, you can drag the songs around to set the playlist order.
NOTE:  If your playlist already appears indented under the shuffle, you don't need to do the above because you have already set up your playlist on your shuffle.
When you use your shuffle, in order to play the songs in playlist order, you need to switch to that playlist.  If you play the songs from the All Songs list (with the shuffle set to play-in-order), I believe they play in alphabetical order.  It switch playlists, you use the VoiceOver button (press and hold).  You can refer to this article for instructions on enabling and using VoiceOver
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4322
The sections Changing playlists and To choose an item from the playlist menu explain how to switch between playlists on the shuffle.  Even if you only have ONE playlist on the shuffle, there is a separate All Songs list.  You must be playing from the playlist to get the songs to play in playlist order.

  • I have a 1st & 4th gen ipod shuffle.  When I copy a playlist to the 1st gen it plays back correctly.  The 4th gen plays back the same playlist alphabetically by artist.  The copy by play order function makes no difference.  Any suggestions?

I have a 1st & 4th gen Ipod shuffle.  When I copy a playlist to the older shuffle it plays back in order.  When I copy a playlist to the 4th gen shuffle it plays by alphabetically by artist.  I used the copy by play order but with no change.  Any suggestions?

This is crazy. What are those guys thinking. I would love to have my 2nd generation ipod shuffle back - it was so easy to use, so easy to operate, alas it was lost/stolen! There are 2 big disasterous (disaster to ease of use) changes in the ipod 4th generation. This particularly relates to podcasts. One is they only play in order by source/type of podcast. You cannot break out of that unless, you have someone to show you how to use the voice over which is not covered anywhere on the very thin manual or elsewhere. Secondly and just as bad but related also, you cannot line them up on your shuffle by date, preference, anything. ONLY apple will do this for you. I hate the thing and will return it today after visiting Apple 3 days in a row to try and get answers, trying to apply the answers and realizing beside the fact that some of the answers given were wrong, they were not going to lead to ease of use. Who said this was better? I was struggling with this (not knowing how to break out of one type of podcast) until i went to Apple and talked to about 4 people who knew less than i did about the shuffle. OUr family has just bought 2 new macbook pros for my son and wife. I have had my macbook for 4 years and love it. I had my ipod shuffle (2 gen) for the same time and loved it but now I don't trust Apple. Are they going to make changes just to make changes. Get some consumer advice, please not just from nerds who want more buttons but from everyday people.
