How is it not working?  And how are you doing it?  Drag the movie onto the iTunes icon on the Dock...  what happens?

  • Just upgraded to Lion and can no longer import any .mov files ("file not supported") to 3.1.3.  Also can no longer view any .mov or .mp4 files already in library.

Have been using Aperture 3.1.3 with no problems.  Importing from a Nikon D80 (RAW & JPEG), Casio (.MOV) and Flip (.mp4).  Could import and view all videos without issue prior to Lion upgrade.  After Lion installation, can no longer import .mov files (get "file not supported" error) or even view any .mov or .mp4 files currently in library (even though thumbnail is present).  Can watch the .mov files directly on my camera using Quicktime in Finder but can't even drag & drop that file into Aperture.  Anybody else having similar problems?

Still no resolution and Geniuses at store could not assist.  Unfortunately, it looks like not all the applications were ready to support the Lion operating system.  We could not import any .mov files, could no longer view any .mov files already in my Aperture library and could not email any .mov files.  Totally frustrated.  Use Aperture almost daily and can't lose the video functionality.  Was also running dog-slow.  Constantly looking at the spinning wheel.  Geniuses suggested that I wipe out hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.  Had full backup on external drive with Time Machine.
Not an easy process though...had to reinstall several times (at 5 hours each time) because I continued to have issues.  Finally figured out that I needed to delete every backup file from Time Machine on external drive from the date I installed Lion because some of the hidden files were still migrating back to Snow Leopard.
    I had to:
    1. Delete all time machine backup files from date/time of Lion installation forward
    2. Do "clean" installation of Snow Leopard (wiped hard drive using disk utility and booted with Snow Leopard disc)
    3. Chose option to reinstall from backup off Time Machine which eventually got me back to Snow Leopard desktop
    4. Deleted Aperture program and reinstalled (I had to install Aperture 2 and then install Aperture 3 upgrade.
    5. Reinstalled iLife apps
    5. Applied all Apple updates available (again this took a few hours because there were several updates from Snow Leopard's original release plus Aperture 3 and other application updates)
Still doing some tweaking on some of my other apps but got everything back to where I originally was.  Now plan to wait on a few version updates from Lion before reinstalling.
I am one of Apple's biggest fans, but was very disappointed in the fact that I lost functionality in one of their own pieces of software (which I use the most!)  by installing Lion.

  • How to copy referenced files into iPhoto library

I have a mixture of referenced files and copies in my iPhoto library. I changed now the preferences to always copy files when importing new photos. But, how can I copy the old referenced photos into my library (they are all over the place)? Is there anything like "Copy all files to the library"?

I'm afraid there isn't - you'll need to do it the hard way I'm afraid.
What might help is to go into the Library/Originals folder and examine the aliases there. Right click on an alias and select 'Show Original' A finder window will pop open with the Original File. Then replace the alias with the original.

  • My PC itunes does not add mp4 files in the library.

My PC itunes does not add mp4 files in the library. why?

YEs, files downloaded before Monday are fine, coul add them ti library.
I'Ve now changed the FTP client, from Transmit to Cyberduck, and can now add new files to the library. All files transfered via Transmit however remain unacceptable to iTunes. It is a pity, as Transmit is much faster and user-friendly.
HAve written to Transmit for their input.

  • Convert mp4 files to mov

I have recently succeeded in using compressor to convert mp4 files into mov files using the h264 settings. however, this is no longer working due to the bugieness of compressor. I have also tried it with Media Encoder but that creates files three times the size of the original.
Any one know of anyother way to do this?

Sure. No argument there. But you have to work with the files given to you from the clients. In this case MP4's   encoded in such a way that the audio remains compressed on the timeline. Converting the files to mov is the quickest conversion process.
Also the final product is for web streaming anyways. I have considered converting just the audio but it's easier file management and it also avoids sync issues.
So yeah anyways now I'm using Media Encoder the conversion is faster and more dependable than compressor. I also now limit the bit rate to 2000 kpbs/sec to keep the file size of the converted file from slowing down the editing process. the resulting file sizes are not much smaller than the original mp4 files.
Seems to be the best solution so far. Batch convert at night and edit during the day.

I am a long time iTunes user but a new MacBook owner! I keep the majority of my music files on an external hard drive.   I'm trying to view all those files on my MacBook through iTunes.   With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE.  In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files.   When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive.  I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive.   Can anyone help?    I'm sure it's something easy, I'm just so new to the Mac world.   Being an iPhone owner for many many years I'm picking up things fast, but this is getting the best of me!  Help !

In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"

  • How to copy Video files to iPod without using iTunes???

    Hi there ..
I have the latest iPod Video 80GB.
If I copy video files larger than 640 pixels iTunes stops me.
But, I don't trust apple folks.
In the previous iPod it didn't matter the width unless you had a total number of pixels inferior to 480x480 (Mpeg4)
Now iPod 5.5G says 640x480=307200 pixels is the max.
    If I have a 736x416=306176
But iTunes doesn't let me copy such files into the iPod.
I WANT TO check if at Apple just don;t want me to have such files copied or if the iPod itself can't play them for real!!!!!
SO Anyone knows of an utility or a way to just copy such files to the iPod so that the database is refreshed and I can test them???
    thank you.

I am not able to download mp4 files (video and audio) to iTunes since I updated to iTunes 11.  Thanks for your help.

Thank you for clarifying. Your question is in your browser, not in iTunes. Each download link is different, and it has nothing to do with the File menu. You can save media files by secondary-clicking on the link to the media file and selecting Save File to "[your downloads folder".

  • How do I copy MP4 files onto my IPad while travelling?

    Hello all
I picked up my first IPad through work last week, and am still familiarising myself with the device. What I did manage to do is connect it to ITunes on my home computer and copy all of our childrens TV shows onto the device for our daughter to watch, and it all went smoothly.
I have a question regarding this process however. I tend to watch a lot of TV shows, and in most cases I wait until after the season is finished and pick up the boxed set, so that I can watch it when I want, without commercials. What I then do is convert them to (unprotected) MP4 files that I then usually copy to my PS3 to watch them on our TV. Just as a test, I copied a few onto the IPad and they look great, I could easily see myself using this device to watch shows while travelling.
However, our IPad is only 16 gigs, and in longer trips I would probably want to take more shows than that would allow. I also have a 1 Terrabyte portable harddrive though, that I can fit ample amount of shows on.
At the moment I have only connected the IPad to one computer running ITunes, which is my PC at home. However lets assume I was travelling, and had both my external hard drive and IPad. What would be the best solution for copying movies from that external harddrive to the IPad to allow me to watch additional shows?  Unless I'm mistaken, I can have up to 5 computers authorised with my account.  Would it in theory be possible to find a PC, authorise it to my Ipad, copy the files over and then deauthorise that PC?  Or if not, what is the recommended solution?
Apologies if this is common knowledge, I'm still a newbie.

Even though you can have your iTunes account authorized on 5 computers your iPad can only be linked to one computer. If you used another computer to copy your content from your external drive you would have to Restore the iPad with the computer erasing all other data. The process will allow you to backup then Restore to that back up but it will not contain any of the media files you wish to keep on the iPad. This is why it is important to get the most storage on an iOS device you can afford.
You might want to look at something like Kingston's Wi-Drive which is an external drive your iPad can access through wifi. http://www.kingston.com/us/usb/wireless#wid I don't think it has any integration with iTunes but you could put a copy of the videos you wish to take with you then play them on it it's app.

  • Can't copy MP4 file to Iphone even with Create iPhone Version

Whenever I try to copy a MP4 video file to my iPhone 5S, iTunes says it "was not copied because it cannot be played on this iPhone".
I tried using "File -> Create New Version -> Create iPod or iPhone Version" and it still can't be copied.
Someone knows what is causing this and have a solution to it?
    Thanks!

    Hi ProblemGuy999,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below describes the video cannot be copied alert that you’re seeing when attempting to sync that specific MP4 to your iPhone 5s.
iTunes: Videos may be unable to sync to iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support
iTunes can play a wide variety of video formats; however, iPhone, iPad, and video-capable iPod devices play videos in specific formats. To learn which video formats are supported:
    Go to the technical specifications.
    Click your device's product family.
    Click your specific model.
Learn more about playing and syncing High Definition (HD) content.
And, here’s the technical specifications for your iPhone 5s:
    Apple - iPhone 5s - Technical Specifications
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 60 frames per second, High Profile level 4.2 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Copying MP4 Files to Ex. Harddrive.

Hi. I have a 2-3 yr old 1TB external harddrive from HD. Never had a problem with it before. The other day I tried to copy an mp4 file from my Air to the harddrive - got an error message of some sort, tried again, same error message. The harddrive proceeded to freeze up and I had to force eject it. When I plugged it back it, it wouldn't recognize on my computer until I restarted the whole thing. Copied some more files, including videos, worked fine - then tried to copy another video file (whatever format is downloaded when you purchase a video from Itunes, can't remember) and the thing crashes. All files on the harddrive are fine, still there. I think the harddrive is getting old. I go and buy a new harddrive (today). I got a 1TB passport for Mac, from HD. I copy maybe 10 MP4 files and then I get to this one file, try and copy it - boom, crashes, have to force eject, now my Mac isn't reading it. The files that are causing the crashes are all different (IE - there's not one file that's corrupt or something). Any ideas what's going on? Plenty of room on harddrives...
Thanks in advance for any help! MacBook Air is about 6 months old.

Thanks for that info - didn't actually know that. Edited my question accordingly.
I have 2 USB ports, doesn't matter which one I use -  and I guess what I'm getting is that it's probably the computer? Since each external harddrive has its own cable, so that might also eliminate cable problems?
Both harddrives seem to be fine with smaller files, for what that's worth. I've been copying Word docs with no problem.
It's a weird issue. Not sure what to make of it.

  • Saving project as MP4 file or .mov file

I want to burn my finished project as a DVD but my burning program needs it to be in a .mov or MP4 format. Can I save my project as such??

    kevinbwatkins
    Thanks for the reply.
The project file is the project.prel. You cannot change the project file (project.prel file) into a project.mp4 or project.mov file.
But, what is possible is to export the Timeline content of that project.prel file to a file whose format has a .mp4 or .mov file extension.
For Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, I would suggest
    for the .mp4
Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with Presets = MP4 NTSC DV Widescreen - using default export settings
    for the .mov
Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime with Presets = NTSC DV 16:9 - using default export settings
If you have a HD source on your Timeline and your destination is a DVD-VIDEO widescreen on DVD disc, you forced into the
properties of the DVD-VIDEO product, namely 720 x 480 16:9 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second (with 16:9 flag stretching
    the 720 x 480 to 856 x 480 for display after encoding).
But, if you have a HD source in this project that just produced the DVD-VIDEO widescreen on DVD disc, you can opt to export
a file with the same resolution as the DVD or export to a file with a resolution comparable to the HD source. Please clarify and
we can fine tune the suggested export setting accordingly.
    Thank you.
