Cant delete a folder

I installed Palm desktop a while back then I decided I dont want the program so I deleted the app icon.
Sometime along the way I had copied the Palm folder to a different drive but now when I delete that folder, trash wont empty telling me that "Localized.rsrc" is in use.
I looked in activity monitor, I dont see any reference to that file or Palm related items in use.
I tried runnings Onyx's force empty and secure empty trash but neither will get rid of that Palm folder.
Any ideas short of formatting the drive?

I cant delet a folder where i store sites.

I create folders like "social sites" to put all my folders for social sites. Or "things of interest" and i put a lot of sites i need to come back to and do research on. But i made a folder and its taking up space now. I deleted all the site on it, and of course i deleted the name on the folder...but now its just sitting there, and it wont go away no matter what i do. I need it to create a little more space on my browser. I mean, i cant even add sites or change its name because it wont save it. This has been happening for a while, i have been waiting for an update on firefozx to fix it but know i see its not helping...any tips or help would be amazing guys! No its not a MAIN bookmark folder...like i said i create folders all the time and erase them accordingly, i just left click and add new folder...then i edit its name, and add links to it so i can go back to it later. And i have done it a lot of times, and deleted some of them ( i just deleted one a few hours ago). But there is one folder that wont get deleted, i created it, but i cant delete it, its just stubbornly sitting there and wont budge. i even tried the bookmarks> organize..thing and anything i could think of.

Yahoo adaware installed, now i cant get rid of it in firefox, tried changing settings/deleting plugins folder.. HELP PLZ!

Tried installing what i thought was a legit file, turns out it was PC OPTIMIZER PRO/OPERA/YAHOO (why cant firefox make fix for this "force install" crap.. or windows a "black list" for this crap... any way these were force installed on my pc, was able to get rid of "pc Optimizer pro / Opera" but YAHOO is still lurking somewhere.. I USE GOOGLE LIKE THE REST OF THE PLANET! But no matter what i do i cant uninstall this crap.. tried deleting plugins folder C:\program files (x86)\Mozilla\browser/plugins or what ever it is.. also removed YAHOO from my settings... and its still forcing me to use yahoo as my search provider.

this was the first thing i tried, fixed it here is how (SURE FIRE WAY TO GET RID OF IT. TIRED OF SIFTING THROUGH USELESS POSTS TO FIGURE THIS OUT? HERE IS THE LEGIT FIX!)
open firefox.
go to Settings > Options > Search
un-check every search engine
change the "default search engine" to the engine of your choice and close firefox.
next go to Start > Run > regedit
Click search box and type "yahoo" it will take you to the folder containing the registry for "yahoo" delete the whole folder.
restart firefox.
Check to be sure it worked, (you may need to reset the "default search engine" again.)

Cant Delete Jar in Apache Jserv? Why???

Hi all
Can any one tell me why i cant delete my jar file in Apache Jserv, servlets folder. It says access denied. I stopped apache server and then tried to delete it. But no use. Help me in this matter.
One more problem i am getting is my jar file is not able to access the dependent class files like oreilly's Multipart request class. In wrapper classpath i had given oreilly's package path, and my jar is also included in wrapper class path.
The above jar file i was talking is created by me.

If you're unable to move or delete .jar, .log, .conf, or any other files after stopping Apache, the JVM has not been properly stopped. When you start Apache with Apache JServ configured, a separate JVM (java.exe) process is started. Many Win32 users use Ctrl-C to stop Apache, and this does not stop the JVM. Also, occassionally with buggy code or buggy VMs, the Java process will not respond to Apache's requests to shutdown.
The preferred way of stopping the JVM properly is to use the command line options to shutdown Apache. In NT, you can type "net stop apache", and on all Win32, you can type "apache -k shutdown", from a command prompt. This should properly shutdown the JVM.
If the JVM does not die, you will have to manually kill the process. In 95/98, Ctrl-Alt-Del will list the processes; select the process and click "End Process". In NT, start the task manager, select the process, right click, and select end process. If that doesn't stop your JVM, reboot.

Delete junk folder in ios 8

hi
i noticed i cant delete the junk folder created sutomatically by mail app in ios 8. I want to delete it because i use imap and i already have a "spam" folder And it is just bugging me when i see it. It was possible to delete it in the past but not anymore (i say this because an old account added doesnt show up such folder).
any idea how to remove it?

I had mistakenly set up this email account on my computer as a POP account instead of an IMAP account. Since I never use POP accounts, it didn't occur to me to check this until I had talked with Sean who suggested that something didn't seem right with the account setup. Changing the account to IMAP still doesn't give a "Select All", "Delete All" option in the folder on my phone, but now the folder is synced to my email account on my computer and deletes messages on the phone when they are deleted on the computer. I suspect that the other preferences, like "Delete in one day" etc. will also work now.
Another thing to be aware of is that this seems to be an issue with accounts that are not icloud or gmail accounts and so it's possible to login to your 3rd party email account and use the mail interface there to edit the contents of folders like the Junk folder. Probably best to get your email account settings set up correctly, but in the mean time, this is a way to delete messages from a burgeoning folder.
Apologies to Apple for the "poorly planned omission" comment above. (I hate it when I do that!)

I have an event scheduled for Wednesday each week, I delete it at end of day. If i delete it on my Macbook Air it deletes fine on my iMac just fine. But if i delete it on my iMac first it stays on my Macbook Air...

Yes and no. AirDrop is used to send a file from one computer to another. A Contact isn't a file so AirDrop isn't the best way to move contacts from one computer to another. If you own both an iMac and MBA and want to keep the two computers synced, the easiest way is to create an iCloud account on both computers. Any calendar event, to do, contact, or note you create on one will sync to the other. If you just bought a MBA and want to move data to it from your iMac you should use Apple's migration assistant. Personally I think the easiest way to migrate is to perform a backup of the old computer to a USB external drive using TimeMachine and then connect the TimeMachine to the new computer and use Migration Assistant.
But can you exchange contacts using AirDrop? Yes. Select the contact(s) you want to transfer, export them as vcards to a temporary folder. Then AirDrop the folder to your MBA. Now run Contacts and then drag the vcards onto the Contacts program icon in the Dock.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

Upgraded to leopard and Cant delete podcast in itunes please help

after leopard upgrade.....when i try and delete an old played podcast my itunes immediately pops up an error message and says it quit unexpectedly. this happens w. any podcast and i have the current version of itunes, i also recently upgraded to leopard so i dont know if that has something to do with it, but i CAN play music and videos and podcasts, i just cant delete a podcast, or update them?

"though a bit sluggish" 512 to one gig memory is just making it. two gigs you'll be more satisfied or at minimum 1.5 gigs of memory.
1) I can't answer that based upon normal itunes migration. I just keep my mp3 music on hard drives and when I re-do a computer from scratch just copy them over(they are all metatagged) and use the itunes "add to library" function then change the view using itunes, set my equalizer and I'm basically done.
2) Tiger and Leopard bookmark file are interchangeable. user/library/safari/bookmarks. You should always save that file elsewhere and just drag it over to user/library/safari of course the Safari folder is not created until you launch Safari at least once.
3) use Mail's import function, just direct it to where your mailboxes are stored.
4) address book you can do this function and save it after done. In Tiger under user/library/application support/addressbook there will be a file called addressbook.data Now create a new folder(do it on the desktop) and name it TigerData. Copy that addressbook.data file into that new folder. Now re-name that folder to TigerData.abbu in the addressbook program use the file, import, addressbook archive menu item and choose TigerData.abbu Once done save that file for future Leopard installs.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Anyway, Office comes with an Uninstaller in its Microsoft Office folder found in your Applications folder, if you wish to remove office. You have to quit all open applications. command-tab keyboard combination will tell you most things that are open. Without knowing which Mac OS X version you have, we can't tell you for certain how to tell if other things are running as Apple's utilities have varied across operating system version. One thing you can do, is reboot the machine in safe mode, holding the shift key down. This forces memory resident programs not to run. Then you can simply drag and drop the applications to the trash that don't have an installer. Be aware though, if you go back to install them, they may not handle it well if a different version was on the machine earlier.

Cant delete all of my messages

There are about 8 messages in my folder that I cant delete. I have tried to open then delete and not open them and delete. Neither works.

Did you save those messages? To check whether those are saved in your Saved Messages folder or not go to Messages -> View Saved Messages. Once you delete them from here they'll not appear again.
If the re is no messages in your saved folder then give a restart to your device by pulling the battery out for 30sec. and then try to delete the messages.

Cant delete standard user

I created a standard account and now I want to delete it but when i try to the ( - ) is grey. Ive unlocked and restarted my laptop but nothing is working. Im using a macbook pro retina late 2013. I cant even turn it off so it doesn't show on my login window. please help.

I think I deleted the folder but it didn't give me an option to delete the user.

I accidentally deleted my "Desktop Folder" and now I cant drag any files directly to my desktop. Also, Is there any way I can recover the file if I already emtied the trash can?

Welcome to Apple discussions.
What do you mean by "deleted desktop folder"? Did you deleted the folder that appeared in any finder window? If so, go to finder, click in "Finder" (beside the Apple logo), preferences, sidebar. Select "desktop" and close preferences. It will show up again.
