Cant delete messages in Mail

I am having trouble deleting messages in my mail. My aol account forwards to my mail. When I try to delete messages it gives me an error message, "Cannot delete 200 messages: -8999454 dosn't exisit.

It sounds like the messages are no longer on the server to delete.
If you Control-Click (Right-click) on the folder, do you have an option to delete or synchronize?
Select the folder that contain the messages you want to delete and select "Rebuild" under Mailbox in the Menu bar.

Using a hotmail account on iMac in Mail.  I get this error message:
The message "name of message" could not be moved to the mailbox "Trash--Hotmail".  "3541.emix" couldn't be copied to messages because an item with the same name exists.
Very much appreciate your knowledge in clearing this up.  Thank you!

  • Can't delete messages in Mail

This is a brand-new issue that started yesterday — I cannot get rid of unwanted messages in Mail when I click on Delete. Nothing at all happens. I can do a "Move To" on some of the messages.
    I also cannot select "Rebuild".
Who has solved this problem before?

I had the same problem and tried a solution I found on other forums. First archive a copy the affected mailbox in case something goes wrong. Then highlight the mailbox name in the navigation bar on the left, go to the "Mailbox" menu, and choose "Rebuild" from the bottom of the list. This worked for me.
There's also an option in Mail preferences to "Move deleted messages to a separate folder." I unchecked it and rechecked it, then closed Mail Preferences.
Somewhere along the line I also did a restart. It never hurts.
    Hope this helps.

  • Impossible to delete messages my mails

    Good Morning everybody,
I recevied a second hand macpro from my office and try to synchonize my different mail dresses. I could add/connect my usual mailapplication with the mailadress from my work. But the worse is that I'm unable since this moment to delete messages. They first desapear but the next I go on my recpetionbox they're here aigain. It's rteally embarasing. Please help me. Thanks in advance. Malou

A couple of final thought (after this I am out of ideas):
Based on the amount of storage, you must have had a LOT of emails, or a considerable number of attachments. What you are seeing is a matter of leftover cache, and it may rectify itself without intervention over the next few hours or days. Or not.
You can, if you are using an IMAP email account (and you wouldn't lose any messages youactually want to keep), delete the account and then reinstall it. If feasible, this is what I would recommend.
Have a look at this (but upfront, I've never experienced the issue and never gone though these procedures, so read carefully):  http://osxdaily.com/2013/07/24/remove-other-data-storage-iphone-ipad/
for what it is worth, I just finish a purge of email messages on my iPad (two IMAP accounts - gmail and iCloud -  and one POP account), mostly from Archive and other created folders. I did not see anything resembling the issue you describe.

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    Or quit mail and restart.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • How do I retrieve deleted messages in Mail

My iphone needs to be replaced so I was told to sync my contents to my happen to be new Macbook Pro that I'm still learning to use. • How do I get iPhone to store deleted messages in MobileMe trash?

Here's the scenario: I have a Mac Pro, MacBook and iPhone 4. I use IMAP MobileMe with Mail.app for email while at home, and while I'm away and don't have my MacBook with me, I use the MobileMe web interface. I want all of my deleted messages from these different sources to end up in the same Trash mailbox on the server. I thought I had all of my devices set up to do that, but what's happening now is that when I delete a message from the iPhone, it goes into a folder called "Deleted Messages" in my MobileMe folders list.
On my Macs I have "Store deleted messages on server" checked, and "Erase deleted messages" set to "never". On my iPhone I've set the trash to "On the Server > Deleted Messages (.Mac)". This description appears next to the trash can icon, which I assumed would be where my deleted messages from Mail.app are going. But this doesn't seem to be the case.
    Any ideas?

I haven't tried this, but browsing in private browsing (Tools > Start Private Browsing) while doing will probably keep Firefox from storing which sites you visited. Clearing the last hour's history will probably do the trick too.

  • Unable to move or delete messages

    Hi
Recently I have had difficulty when trying to move or delete messages in mail. It does not affect all messages, and not always all of the time. For example, I tried to clear out my Sent folder yesterday. I was able to move or delete most, but three messages will usually grey-out when I try to delete or move them. On the few occasions they have disappeared when I delete them, they reappear the next time I log into Mail.
Yesterday I also went through a folder and moved several hundred unwanted mails to the Trash. However, when I now go to Trash to check I have not deleted something I want to keep, only a tiny proportion of the mails that should be in Trash appear (I have not emptied Trash since clearing out the folder). I'm not sure if this is a related problem or something else entirely.
I have deleted the Cache.db file and moved the Mail folder from the Cache Folder to the desktop, and rebuilt permissions, but these have not made any difference.
Any suggestions on how to solve this problem will be gratefully received.
    Thanks
    Phil

I was responding to other suggestions in this thread regarding excessive time to download mails, an issue that I also had - are you saying that those solutions are incorrect?
Without knowing exactly which suggestion you were following, it's very difficult to say, and speculating would be making assumptions which could very well be wrong.
Who is your email provider, and what kind of email account are you dealing with: POP, IMAP, or both?
If you have just a POP account, the solution could be one of two different things I can think of: either you need to rebuild you Mail index, or your preferences are corrupt and need to be recreated. Let's assume the best case for now, that you have a POP account and your Mail index is flaky. In that case:
    Quit Mail if it's running.
Go to Home/Library/Mail and delete any files that begin with "Envelope Index".
Restart Mail and wait for the index to be rebuilt, then check to see if the problem continues. If not, problem solved.
If it does continue, try this:
    Quit Mail if it's running.
Go to Home/Library/Preferences and remove the com.apple.mail.plist file.
Restart Mail, setup your POP account(s) again and Mail will find your existing mailboxes automatically. When it's done, check to see if the problem continues.
In either case, if you have any IMAP accounts, go to Home/Library/Mail and move the folders for those accounts to your Desktop after quitting Mail, before you do any other steps above.
    Post back with results.

  • "Delete messages from server" Mail iPhone 5

Hi, I am trying to locate "delete messages from server" option in Mail Settings on iPhone 5 and can't find it. In iPhone 4 it was just in the Advanced settings but it is not there in iPhone 5. Help please? Thanks

Not sure who your email provider is. Mine is hotmail. When you set up email with hotmail on an iPhone 4 the delete from server never is available. I just got an iPhone 5, i reset up my hot mail account and can't find that setting either. I set it up by using the hotmail button not "other" so meaning delete your hotmail account from your phone. Then re set it up. But when you do add email account, don't use the button that says hotmail. Use the bottom choice that says "other". I have no idea why this is different but if you do this it will set up hotmail just the same. But now that setting is there. The "delete from server" and you set it to "never". Now when you delete the emails from your hot mail account on the iPhone, it leaves that email on the hotmail server. So when you look at email on the computer it's there still. It's good this way if you share email with someone.

In Mail I am suddenly unable to delete messages. When I do the msg is replaced by another that is titled no sender / no subject / no content and has a date of 69-12-31.  To compound things there is seemingly no way to delete the new message.   Any suggestions?
