Cant do recovery on C855

I tried all of the steps I have seen on posts concerning the Recovery options for the Toshiba C855-S5214 and it just gives me a Cable not connected error please select boot option, etc., also in the Setup Menu (F2) it is blank next to the HDD/SDD line, does this indicate that the HDD has gone bad or are there additional options I can try?

Error message " Check cable connection , no bootable device " most of the time this is a Hw failure. Same solution contact toshiba for more support .

    Hi,
I would recommend calling HP ( the telephone number can be found on the relevant link below ) and explain that the Recovery Media Creator is unable to create a viable set of Recovery Discs and request that they send you a free replacement set.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

  • Cant access Recovery Console

    I have a t30 w/ WinXP Pro SP2
Im getting the blue screen of death - Unmountable Boot Volume.  Everything I read says I need to get to the Recovery Console, select "r" then run CHKDSK and Fixboot.
However, when I put in my Thinkpad recovery CD's all I get is a menu to for IBM Product Recovery Program Version 5.7.  The only two options it gives me is
Factory Contents:  Reformat your hard disk, etc...
System Utilities:   View the System Utilities Menu.
I've been though the system utilities and I cant see anywhere where I can get to a prompt to enter the CHKDSK command.
Am I missing a step?   Can anyone help?  Thanks

Ok, now I have a stupid question.  Im trying to download Knoppix.  When I go to the site and pick one of the mirrors to download from.  It just gives me a list of files.  Which one do I burn to a disk?  All of them?

"If exit recovery doesn't work, then try putting it into DFU and use fix recovery,
This is the last option , as i don't think there are any more ways
    To put into DFU:
hold power button for 5 seconds
Hold both power button an home button for 10 seconds
Release power BUT continue holding home button until the screen is black and computer recognizes the phone
Make sure your device is already plugged in
If you did it correctly the computer will recognize it and the screen shoul be black"

  • MY HP Paviilion DV6 cant write recovery disks!!!!!!!!!!!

I have Hp DV6-7043cl and i want to create recovery media on 5 disks,, when it prepare the data to be wirte on the first disk says error craeting media,,,,,
what should i have to check to create the media dvds

Normally that happens when generic DVDs are used. I use Verbatim DVD-R DVDs and have never had a problem creating recovery disk sets.
I highly recommend using a usb flashdrive media instead of DVD disks. Flashdrive are far faster, more durable and reliable than DVD disks. All it takes is one scratch on the paper (or label) side of a DVD and it can become unuseable.

  • Trying to install Mavericks, but says it cant due to recovery not being installed

I have downloaded Mavericks on my wifes MAC BOOK PRO, and it wont load as it says that it cant find "recovery". I downloaded, and installed Mavericks on my 2009 MacBook without any problems.
Any help and or hints would be most welcome.

You can't do an erase/install from a Time Machine disk because it uses the very Recovery Partition on the computer that is missing.  To get this put back, requires booting externally, erasing the offending OS and running the installer from there.
I'm surprised the installer wont run because people with Snow Leopard do not have such a Recovery Partition and they can upgrade.
Here is one route and I wish it was simpler.
    1. Make sure the MBP backup on Time Machine is up-to-date.
    2. Re-partition the Time Machine disk to make a small new one of about 80Gb or so.
    3. Attach the disk to the MacBook and boot into the MacBook. Download the installer again.  (Save a copy before running it).
    4. Install Mavericks onto the new partition, without any data transfer, except to copy over the installer.
(You could just clone your MacBook using Carbon Copy Cloner, if you have it.  It would be good backup anyway)
    5. Shutdown the MacBook and move the disk to the MBP, boot into the new partition.
    6. Go to Disk Utility and erase the MBP disk. Run Verify disk.
    7. Running the installer, it will ask where to install Mavericks and you need to click to show a list of disks.  Choose the MBP and go from there.  At the point it asks to transfer data. Select the Time Machine partition and use that to get your wife's user account.
    Heck that is complicated!

  • Cant boot mac, have tried various things

Hi all, i would appreciate if anyone could give me some help. I try to give as much detail as to what happen so far below.
My Macbook pro 2009 5,3 recently started acting up. Initially i was able to login fine etc, however i was playing a video and it started to pause and freeze. My computer locked up and i had to restart, however once back into mac it would go very slow and applications would hang and i would need to leave them for a min to unfreeze. I noticed this happen shortly after upgrading to osx 10.8.5 from 10.8.2 (not sure if its related). Over time the startup became very slow and sometimes i could not get past the grey spinning cog with the apple logo.  So:
I tried reseting p-ram, and doing a cmd+s single user mode and running the 'fsck -fy' etc which worked, i was able to log back into my mac but it was still very slow and apps locking and freezing and had to hard restart.
I also did a option+cmd+r to go into repair mode on startup, i ran disk utility and did repair permissions and disk repair (In the disk utility it seemes the hdd was fine and s.m.a.r.t was ok), that seemed fine but still it would take ages to login and even load an app and had to hard restart in the end.
Now i cant even login or access single user mode properly(explained below), i cant run recovery on startup spinning cog just locks or keeps going forever, i cant run the install cd while holding down C the spinning grey cog just stops after a long wait. I can run hardware dianostics while holding D with the applications dvd, i have done this and it says the ram is fine (not sure if this tests hdd) but i cant really do anything useful with it.
When i go into single user mode now it says some jiberish and then stops the text from coming down like it use to, then it waits a while, then says:
    hfs_mountroot failed: 6
cannot mount root error = 19
    disk0s2 media is not present
and keeps repeating this down the screen with some other jiberish.
It seems something inside has messed up even more and now disk0s2 cant even mount (probably why i cant access single user mode, recover mode etc..).
I had tried using some software called macdrive (hsf emulator kinda thing) and hsfexplorer on windows with a sata to usb adaptor (also sata to motherboard) but it did not connect properly and did not show up in my computer like it is supposed to. Does any one think that if i had not got to the stage where it cant mount disk0s2 problem it may have worked beforehand?
Do you think i could have backed up the drive with disk utility to a external HDD if i had done it when repair mode was working? (i am kicking myself if i could have)
Another thing i though was to go into single user mode and mount a external HDD and use the copy 'mv' command to copy the data over. When single user mode was working i could run the 'ls' command to browse directries and files where still intact etc, has anyone ever done this backup idea?
If possible if i can just get single user mode working again or repair mode working then i might be able to do some attempts at backing up. How can i get disk0s2 to mount like it should do?
How can i go about getting the data back from this drive? it is extremely important to me, some options i have thought of was to buy a duplicate drive and replace the platters (very hard) and see if that would work (might not even fix mounting issue). Right now i am freezing the drive in the freezer since some people say this works but i dought this will help, will try and boot it tommrow. Would it be possible for me to get a platter reading device that i can take the platters out and then put in a special device to read the data? Does any one know what the special white lab coat people use to do specialist recovery, i would be interested in buying that equitment.
I have read that some people have left the mac overnight with the spinning cog then the login might appear?
I am fairly sure all the files and data i need are still on there regardless of if the hdd is dead/dying/failing, its just the disk0s2 is not mounting properly so i cant access anything to try and recover and some osx system files might be messed up to.
    Please help, much appreciated =)

  • Recovery Problem after Format

Hi to all. I have changed the Windows Vista on my Pavilion dv6700 to Windows 7 Ultimate. The problem is that now i cant make recovery. There is no way to run. What can i do to make Notebook to return to its manufactural condition??

    Eren,
The time to make your Recovery media is before the original Operating System lost or overwritten.
The system is an older model, HP apparently no longer offers (for purchase) the Recovery Discs.
You might be able to buy them from
    Computer Surgeons HP Recovery Center
The cost is only a bit higher than those originally offered by HP.
Free Option to return to Vista:
You can get close to what you had, with some work.
Your Vista Drivers are still available at your computer's webpage:
