Cant do software update with momentus Xt.

Hey guys. Just bought a new momentus xt hybrid drive. I installed mac os x 10.5.2 on my '08 macbook just fine. It seems though I cannot download any software updates. Any ideas or help would be awesome! Thanks.

If you have internet access, and Software Update isn't working, the first thing I would download is the 10.5.8 combo update. Use Disk Utility to repair permissions first, install the update, then repair permissions again.

Either your phone is broken, or it was jailbroken. You can try a DFU restore.

  • Software Update with AOL

When I try to use Software Update with an AOL connection, MacOS shuts down all other applications when it starts to update. (I know doing update with TCP/IP will take forever, but it's the only option) Is there any way to do this?

    Hi Again SnuffysPaw!
You can download any update, you may need, from Apple - Support - Downloads, on any computer, and then burn to a CD for use on your iMac.
Do you have any friends or relatives with a High-Speed Connection?
    Visit your local Public Library.
Some bookstores & internet cafes have High-Speed connections. Do you have access to a portable computer?
If you take a blank CD to a local Apple Store, they may let you download the updates there. They may even do it for you.
    Good Luck!

  • Cant purchase / check downloads in iTunes or cant perform software update

Have had huge issues with my internet over the last couple of days!
i have a wireless router that was working fine yesterday!
Now today if i try to log into iTunes I can no problem, but when i try to make a purchase or check downloads i get the error
"Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again"
I have no issue with my connection as I can go to other websites!
Firewall has been turned off completely
I then tried to see if there was an update for the problem or for iTunes and through Apple > Software Update and I get the error
"Software Update can't connect to the update server. Make sure your're connected to the Internet and then try again"
I clicked on Network Diagnostics to see if they could identify the problem but it said that the Internet and everything is working fine and there were no issues.
Could anyone please tell me what is going on, so confused and upset cause I cant purchase or update my laptop!

Hi, sakwilla1980 -- this has been happening to pretty much everybody since Sunday (29 August); there's a thread further up in this forum about it (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2560634&tstart=0). Here's what I posted there as my solution to the problem...
    =====
O.K., I FINALLY got my problem fixed. Based on what I had to do to fix this problem on my end, I suspect that this may be related to some kind of security validation routine that got recently installed or "patched" or "fixed" (as buttermaker and windycity75 surmised). Here's how I did it (thanks, Josh from iTunes Support, for kind of back-dooring into the answer by suggesting I check out all my information stored at the Apple ID website):
-- Sign out of iTunes. Reboot your Mac (or whatever device you're using to access the iTunes store).
-- Open a web browser and go to http://appleid.apple.com (or Google "Apple ID" and choose the "My Apple ID" option).
-- Sign in with your Apple ID and click "Manage your account".
-- Verify ALL of your user information. Seriously, verify and validate EVERYTHING--your name, your e-mail address, your mailing address, your shipping address, your phone number, all of it. Make sure your Primary Address EXACTLY matches the address your bank has as your primary address; if those don't match, your purchase will be refused. Make sure your Apple ID is linked to a valid e-mail address; if not, your purchase will be refused because there will be nowhere to send purchase information and other Apple e-mail. Make sure your date of birth is correct and not missing any part of it (like your birth year; mine had somehow come un-set); otherwise, your age cannot be verified and your purchase may not go through. Click "Save Changes" whenever you change something.
-- Once all that is done, sign into iTunes, then click on the little downward-pointing triangle next to your Apple ID in the upper-right corner of iTunes and choose "Account".
    -- Click "Edit Payment Information".
-- Choose "None" as your payment option, make sure all your address and phone number information already listed is correct, fix anything that isn't correct, and click "Done". This will force iTunes to verify your account information as it exists in iTunes with what is registered for your Apple ID at http://appleid.apple.com.
-- You may be asked to verify the county for your billing address (for sales tax purchases); make sure this is correct, or transactions could be refused. Click "Done" when finished.
-- Go back to the "Account" screen and choose "Edit Payment Information" again.
-- Choose either the credit card logo of the card you want to use or choose "PayPal".
-- If you choose PayPal, follow the directions on the web page that pops up in your browser to verify your PayPal account and link it with your Apple ID. Click "Return to iTunes Store" inside the web browser to return control to iTunes, then click "Done".
-- If you choose to enter a credit card, make sure EVERYTHING is correct on the page--your credit card type, account number, CVV, billing address, etc.--and then click "Done".
If you did everything right AND all the information for your Apple ID is verified and correct AND matches the information you entered on the "Edit Payment Information" screen, the next time you check the "Account" screen, you should see your default payment information listed in the "Payment Information" block. If you don't see anything in your "Payment Information" block after all of that, it means iTunes can't match your default address information and your banking information, and you'll have to start all over again from the top to purchase.
I haven't tried doing this with a prepaid iTunes gift card, so I don't know if that would be a workaround, but I do know that the iTunes store is suddenly a LOT more picky about making sure all the addresses, date of birth, etc. are correct in the Apple ID DB and match what is being entered inside iTunes.
    Good luck!

  • Can't connect to the App store, iTunes and software update with MBP 13

    Hi,
I have a MBP 13 from 2011 and I have a really annoying problem with connecting it to the App Store, iTunes and the software update. It claims that I have no internet/wifi/network, although I clearly have it since I am watching series through Netflix and are on Facebook at the same time. So naturally I started to look in to the firewall and it works fine, since it does not and has never blocked any other Apple products/programs. So I continued looking everywhere in the computer, found nothing. And finally I decided to re-install the MBP and I still cannot connect to neither of these programs.
I feel that it is really unnecessary to hand the MBP in for service for a problem like this, so I was wondering if there is someone out there who has a solution to this problem? Beacue , as I mentioned earlier, my internet/wifi is working perfectly with everything else, so I really do not understand why App Store, iTunes and the software update does not work.

    Hello there, Victoria Nisoho.

  • Cant download software updates

When I run software update the update downloads but wont install,I get the message
NSURLErrorDomain-1005 networking error please check internet connection and try again.
I have evdo with a sprint broadband card and a phobeus router.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, vboost.
Hmmm... there was a bug report filed on this back in May '06. First I've seen of it though.
Try deleting ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist also com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist, in the same folder.
    then try again.

  • Will not load software updates with a warning

Upon starting windows a box comes up that stes now loading mozilla updates, mozilla will resume ....then a window comes up that says it it downloading the update and that it is critical. Mozilla will start but the update download keeps running in the background and never connects. Unable to open the help link in this window.

If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.<br />
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Software update with linux

i am searching for a possibility to update my ipod firmware from my Linux platform. i found some possibilities to update with the old updater, but in the meantime, this is done by iTunes which is not available for Linux.
does anybody has a solution? nearly every company on this earth blames Linux users even apple.. and don't tell me it's too hard to port iTunes to Linux, because Mac OS X is also a unix system. this is not a too big deal.
i just want to be independent. and Linux is the only way, if we talk about computers.
sure is: never an iPod again, until apple learns that i dont want to be force to use iTunes (or a similar program). i like my freedom, in every part of my life.
what about your? do you have some?
    -Ribx

To the best of my knowledge (the question comes up periodically), there is no way to do what your asking. Perhaps you could use a friend's computer to do the update? Just make sure your music is backed up.
And, by the way, no one is forcing you to do anything. If you don't like the way the iPod works, buy something else. It's a little silly to buy something that has certain requirements (which are clear up front) and then complain because you don't like them. Having been a Mac user for years, I'm very familiar with that "left out feeling". There's all sorts of software that won't run on my system. I certainly send polite feedback to the developers so that they know there might be a market.

  • Cant Download Software Updates, Random app needs update

I have two problems with the Mac App Store. The first one is that there is an app called "CodeBox" that i have never downloaded or used that is available for an update on an account that I've never seen. The second is that I havnt been able to install software updates since I downloaded Mountain Lion. The notification for a software update pops up but the only update I can see is the CodeBox app.

Uninstall the CodeBox app using this free utility >  Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
    re:  the softwrae updates..
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the trash.
    Same:   ~/Library/Preferences/
Click Go the move the  com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Same:   ~/Libray/Cookies
Click  Go then move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to to the Trash.
Try the App Store.. see if that made a difference..

  • Duplicate Software Updates with local SUS Cache

    Hi
I am running Lion Server 10.7.3 with Software Update Service running. I have noticed I am getting duplicates of the same Update on my Clients (for example, I have the 10.7.3 update combo listed 5 times, and none of them work).
All of the updates that are duplicates appear to be corrupted (won't install on the client)
Does anyone know how to remove the duplicates?

These things sometimes happen with software update server. The fix is to simply blow away the updates and allow it to redownload them.
    sudo serveradmin stop swupdate
    sudo rm -Rvf /var/db/swupd/*
    sudo serveradmin start swupdate
    That's all you gotta do.
