Cant download iphone 2.2 update!!!!!!

hello there everyone, im a self admitted technology illiterate individual! im trying to download the the iphone 2.2 update when im synced in itunes and keep getting the message of the network connection timed out, and err=-3259 its driving me insane. im using itunes 8.02 and an iphone 3g. i havent had any trouble updating before. i can get on line and do other stuff, and even followed apples guide to add itunes sharing in my network properties and fire wall disabling etc. still the same code comes up. any suggestions?? thanks for your help!!

I am a sysadmin and having the same issue. I have it on XP and Vista. Are you on a Comcast connection? I am wondering if they are resetting some connections again? I am also having issue getting large video podcasts to download.

I guess you have no time-machine or carbon copy cloner backup at hand.. then you will go a manual way.
Mac AppStore is included in 10.6.6 first and a updated better version ( the latest ) is in 10.6.7, so I focus on the later :
Use the shareware ( works without paying , nag screen only ) called "pacifist" . Locate the 10.6.7 update package on your harddisk, mount the dmg, go inside and right-click the installer package, it wil offer you top open it with pacifist instead of Apples OS installer.
Inside pacifist you can see the various sub-packages, one item is the Mac App Store, select it and choose "install to default location" from pacifists menu.
This way you bypass the OS' logic that it is already up to date and will find AppStore in your Applications folder.
Note that this scenario is totally unsupported by Apple of course and you do it on your own risk.
The official way if you have messed up the OS and have removed parts of it, would be to wipe and reload OSX plus its updates to be back..

i cant download any application or update any on my ipod touch.
once i press update or buy now it goes to the screen where all the applications are and says waiting on the new app like normal then in about 20-30 secends it dissapears and nuthing happends. with the updates same thing it doesent dissapear tho it just goes back to what ever the app was before.

ITunes won't download iPhone 2.1 update

When I connect my iPhone, iTunes says there is an update available, but when i select update, iTunes comes back with an error message "There was a problem downloading..... you do not have permission to access the requested resource." When I try and download the stand alone version, by holding shift while hitting update, it gives me and "unknown error(1403)"??????

Apparently my anti-virus software (ESET) was preventing iTunes from completing the update. Temporarily disabling Antivirus and antispyware protection allowed the download to complete, and I could then successfully install the update.
I suspect (but cannot confirm) that after iTunes downloaded the data, it attempted a rename of the file (or other operation) which ESET detected as a threat and disallowed. ESET neither notified me nor logged the denial.
iTunes displayed this alert: *There was a problem downloading the iPhone software for the iPhone. The network connection timed out.*
Not sure why this was reported as a network timeout.
Remember to re-enable your virus protection if you try this workaround.

I'm having the same problem too. I cannot sync or update over wireless or wired connections ever since I installed the most recent iTunes update. iTunes goes through the complete OS 5.0.1 download only to tell me the connection has timed out just when it seems ready to install. I've since reinstalled iTunes, I've ejected and done hard restarts on both my problem devices. I've disabled anti-virus, anti-malware, and firewall. No change in outcome except that, after doing all this, my final attempt to simply sync my 1st Gen iPad led to iTunes crashing and being automatically closed by windows just before finishing the final step. Is this a cruel joke, because I'm certain I can hear iTunes laughing at me for wasting so much time on this.
Windows 7, 64-bit
iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0

everytime i download the iphone 4 software it cancels stating 'connection error timeout' my internet connection is fine. If i pause the download it restarts it from scratch. please help

Sounds like Malware to me...you need to get rid of whatever it is you're using. As Lawrence has suggested, try updating on a different computer. You can update iPhone software on any computer. What you don't want to do is sync if it's not the computer you normally sync with.

Temporarily disable ALL of your antivirus/antispyware software (that includes the included MicroSoft software and any other installed software such as Kaspersky, McAfee, etc.) and try again.

Can't download iphone 4 sw update

Hi,
I have a new iphone4 and would like to install the new software update.
Unfortunately, we are stuck with hughesnet satellite for internet access
and I am limited to 375mb per 24hr period and the update is 579mb. I used a
token to get back to full download speed at the earliest possible moment
but itunes shut down the download and started over again which means that unless
someone has a suggestion for another way to get the ios4 update download, I am
stuck.
Any suggestions ? Is there another way to download it, could I go to an Apple
store or back to the att store ? A relative has cable with no d/l limit-could
I use their itunes to update my phone ??

My issue was the same but I am going through a firewall which helped me tracked down the issue. For some reason, my system was denying the download. I am a sys admin so I tried everything I could think of but only using the direct link worked.

I go to the toolbar on the top and press search for updates and it tells me that the latest version of itunes is already downloaded or that there are no updates available at this time. Previously, i would be able to go to the apps page on itunes and then press search for updates and then download all. Then I would sync with my phone and both phone and computer would be updated. Now I can only update on the phone and I know Im going to encounter where it tells me the info for downloading is too large to do it on your phone, hence my first question.....where do I go to update my apps on my computer????

While you're in itunes, with the leftside window open, click on Apps. Then, look across the top middle of your itunes screen. You will see several choices: All, Iphone/iPad Touch, Ipad, Ipod Games, List, and Updates.
Clicking on each of these gives you a different view.
When you select ALL you will see all of your apps. When you select Updates you sill see only the apps that need to be updated. When you are in Updates you will see the Update button in the lower right corner.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

If no joy...
Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.

After i update my iphone 4 to ios 7, now i cant download anything from app store, when i tap free or buy button on the app in app store, i have a 4gb free space, it doesnt show any error message, just a grey icon in my screen telling "waiting" then it automatically closed the waiting app

I have also experienced this problem with the new IOS7. I had to totally close the application and re-open it and try again. Then it worked.

I had the same problem and solved it. On your iPhone go to.....
Settings --> Safari ---> Accept Cookies ---> Always
I had "Never" and when I switched it over to "Always" I was able to visit the App Store and successfully download a free application.
I had been having this problem for over two weeks.
