Cant' find Airport Extreme Setup Assistant in Applications/Utilities

My new Airport Extreme Base station - M8799LL/A requires setup using Setup Assistant, which I can't find on my laptop. Is there a place to download it?

No, I see the airport utility.... what I can't find is the setup assistant ...... Perhaps this is because this ancient device is equipment I had to buy used?

  • Airport utility cant find airport extreme 802.11

Bought a 802.11 today.  Didnt come with a CD and so downloaded Aiport Utility 5.4.1 for windows.  I am using the dang router right now since I am on the internet.  Its amber light is flashing.  The Airport Utility cant find any Apple wireless devices.  Hmm.  Help.  Do I need to download something other than 5.4.1?  When I put in 802.11 utility all I get back is a bunch of patches...Help.

Thanks Hackintosh.  I got it going.  It would be enormously helpful if Apple would list the most current software necessary for the Airport Extreme FIRST when you search for downloads.  But that would be too easy.
    Thanks,

  • Macbook cannot find airport extreme to configure it

macbook pro cannot find airport extreme to configure it to join an existing network.

By default, the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) will be broadcasting a wireless network with a name like, Apple Network NNNNNN. Be sure that the MBP is connected to this wireless network BEFORE trying to access with the AirPort Utility.
If this still doesn't work, try temporarily connecting the AX directly to the MBP by Ethernet, and then, try accessing it with the AirPort Utility.

  • AirPort Setup Assistant does not find AirPort Extreme

    Hello,
I am trying to stream music to my home stereo. My setup is exactly like the one displayed on page 17 of http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpress_Setup_Guidev4.2.pdf
AirPort Setup Assistant shows my AirPort Extreme, but not the AirPort Express. I did hard-reset the AirPort Express several times, but the light stays amber and the Setup Assistant does not discover the AirPort Express.
Until I changed the configuration (prior I had an AirPort Express only), I was able to use a shared network with a PC, so I don't believe the AirPort Express is defective.
Is there anything else I can do?
    Thanks,
    Fidelio

    P.S.
I was able to solve my problem. It turned out that the AirPort Express software was outdated. So I connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AirPort Extreme. Then used the AirPortExpressFWUpdater.dmg to upload the latest software. Finally I followed the instructions posted by Tesserax at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5342301#5342301 and it worked.

  • HT1331 cant see disks in the airport extreme setup

cant see disks in the airport extreme "partions" to set up, tried different disks, cables, restart, etc, bottom line the extreme does not see any attached external hard drives, any ideas?
    Cheers
    Michael

    Checklist:
    1)  The drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Unless the documentation with your drive specifically states this fact, the drive is very likely pre-formatted for Windows, which will not work on the AirPort Extreme. Use Disk Utility on your Mac to reformat the drive.
    2)  Even if the drive is formatted correctly, the USB port on the Extreme is underpowered....so it is often necessary to use a powered USB hub with the Extreme.....even if your hard drive has its own power supply.
    3)  The hard drive will not "show up" on the desktop the way that drive that is connected directly to the Mac will do. You must click on the AirPort Extreme icon under the SHARED heading in the Finder, then double click the folder representing the drive to mount it on the desktop.

  • Extend AirPort Extreme Network with AirPort Express- Setup assistance

I have an AirPort Extreme working nicely and connected directly to my Comcast cable modem.  I would like to extend my network for greater coverage upstairs and to run an upstairs printer on the network.  I cannot get the Express connected as an extension to my existing wireless network.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi Bob. Do you mind if I listen in on this thread? I am trying to extend a network the same way JVT1057 is, yet my Mac mini in the Airport application cannot find the Express device. The Extreme device is up and working well, and is "seen" by the mini in the utility, but not the Express device. I need a stronger signal in a home office upstairs and would like to connect a networked printer here in the office via the Express.
What am I doing wrong? I, too, have specifiied on the Extreme menus that I want the network to be extended.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

  • MBP can't find airport extreme but internet works

I have a MBP with Lion.  I just purchased an airport extreme and connected an external harddrive with time machine linked to it.  Perodically my MBP, loses the Airport Extreme base station and cant find the Airport Extreme.  It cant find it in Airport Utility even after rescanning.  When this occures, time machine wont work because it cant find the drive/server.  I can manually locate the airport extreme by using the IP address though and I have a working internet connection.  But it's getting annoying because it seems to be at random that the base station just disapears.

I bought an Airport Extreme yesterday and hooked it up today. Everything went great, but eventually all my wireless devices lost their connections. I've read several other forums where this has been observed as far back as 2009. Most attribute it to a firmware update, but that certainly isn't my case. My wireless devices include a Samsung TV, a Sony 'Google TV' internet box, and two Macs just to name a few of what I connected today. And they eventually lost their connection. Wired connections don't seem to be affected.
It appears that Airport Extreme's wireless feature is going into a sleep mode that is hard for it to wake up from, or it's overheating (it gets very hot). And this has nothing to do with signal strength, range, or interference. It could be a combination of settings as a 2010 post stated that Apple told him to do a hard reset and ensure "Allow Setup over WAN..." and "Allow SNMP" are both unchecked.  Neither are checked on mine, so I guessing that might have been a lucky workaround back then. It's a pain to restart AE and re-enter the password on any device just because AE might have been idle for a period. After more than 2 years of this behavior, I'm surprised it continues to this day with no fix or clear explanation. Maybe there's a solution out there somewhere.....

  • Verizon DSL and Airport Extreme Setup Problem

I have Verizon DSL (not FIOS). I am using a Westell modem, model number B90-210015-04.
I try to go through the setup but the Airport Extreme Utility says it cannot find a valid IP address (the light keeps flashing).
I have it setup in bridge mode since I think my modem is also a router. However, there are a lot of other inputs in the setup and I don't know if I need to put in anything for those (e.g. DNS Servers, Domain Name, etc.). I called Verizon and they said there shouldn't be any special inputs. They implied it should just work out of the box.
The modem is working with my existing Netgear router (model number WGR614 v4).
    Any help?

Had the same problem. Had the same setup as yours.
If you use WPA/WPA2 and if your password is too short (less than or equal to 8 characters), the AirPort Extreme Utility will misleadingly tell you it cannot find a valid IP address. As it turns out, WPA/WPA2 requires a longer password (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wpa2). I don't understand why a weak password would result in a confusing error message like this, but after I used a stronger and longer password, the dreadful amber light finally turned green!
PS: I didn't enter any DNS/DHCP info nor my DSL account/password info throughout the entire setup process. I figured that if I didn't need these pieces of information with the old router before then I shouldn't need them with this new hardware.

  • Mac Mini w/WinXP sp2 won't find AirPort Extreme

I bought my wife a Mac Mini. It sees the Airport Extreme that we have when booted into MAC OS. This was setup for her iBook. Works fine, has been for a couple years now. If she boots into WinXP side she cannot access the internet. Windows doesn't detect the wireless modem or the Airport Extreme at all. When I run the Airport Setup Assistant I get this error message: "This computer has no wireless interface enabled or Windows is not setup to manage wireless networks on this computer."
I have no clue what to do from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't get AirPort Express Setup Assistant to Work

I'm having trouble just setting up AirPort Express. (All I want to do is play iTunes from a stereo system in another room.) I purchased an "AirMac Express base station" in Tokyo a few days ago, took it out of the box, and followed the instructions as far as connecting audio jacks and plugging the base station into an electric outlet. (My iMac is also a Japanese machine, and I'm using it in Tokyo.
The next step was supposed to be opening AirPort Setup Assistant and obeying it. But the SA wasn't in Apps>Utilities, where the instruction manual said it would be, so I used the CD that came with the base station to install SA.
I did manage to open it and get as far as the first step, but then I got this message:
"In order to use the AirPort Setup Assistant your AirPort card must be enabled and AirPort needs to be turned on and set to use DHCP. Click OK if you would like to change these settings, or Skip if you would like to configure AirPort Base Stations using ethernet."
(An AirPort card was factory-installed, and AirPort is turned on.) So I clicked on "OK." Then I get this message and SA vanishes:
There was an error communicating with your AirPort card. Please make sure it is installed properly and try the AirPort Setup Assistant again.
I have looked in support as best I can and also tried some googling, but I still have idea what to do. Can anyone help?
    Many thanks!

I finally found the answer to my question in Joe Kissell's Taking Control of Upgrading to Leopard. For anyone who may need to know, the AirPort Setup Assistant is no longer used to set up base stations. That task has now been delegated to Airport Utility. Duh.
But why couldn't Apple manage to put this information in a place where people who bought a base station could find it??

  • Can't find Boot Camp Setup Assistant, PowerBook G4

I have upgraded to Leopard 10.5.1 via the installation disc and then downloaded and installed the combo upgrade 10.5.4. However, I can't find the Boot Camp Setup Assistant in the Applications Folder.
Is the Boot Camp Setup Assistant automatically installed from the installation disc or does it need to be loaded from "optional installs" on the installation disc?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
if your signature is still correct (Powerbook !) than you can't find the BootCamp Assistant on it.
The BCA is only installed (and useable) on Intel-Macs, not on PPC-Macs like your Powerbook.
    Sorry

  • PC AirPort Utility cannot find Airport extreme w/ ethernet but has internet

Hello, I have set up the airport extreme to use with a MacBook. I pluged everything in just fine (PC using ethernet) but had to configure the base station with the MacBook as the PC could not find it using the Utility. However the PC is connected to the internet just fine through the base station's ethernet port.
My problem is trying to get the PC (running XP home 2002 sp2) to see the Airport Extreme using the Airport Utility in order to start configuring network printing and eventually AirTunes.
I cannot seem to find this solution anywhere. Please help if you can. Thanks!

Hi I don't know for sure if this is your answer, but with your mac go into setup again. Under wireless tab, then wireless options , make sure 'create a closed network' is unchecked. This may allow the pc to see any Apple base stations. Good luck
Can you please tell me exactly where to find the "create a closed network" box? I am brand new to mac and am still finding my way around. Thank you so much!

  • Anyone else has this problem - Airport extreme setup

I got my new Airport Extreme 802.11n and took out my linksys router and plug in the extreme. Using my Imac, I ran airport utility and it sees my airport but just hangs at "reading base station configuration" and never lets me set up my airport. Tried hard reset, and turn down the whole network and restarted it and still does not let me get past that screen..
Imac duo core 2 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm not sure this helps, but...
Are you using the new "AirPort Utility" app that comes with the 802.11n base station or the older, now defunct "AirPort Setup Assistant" or "AirPort Admin Utility"?
I tried the "AirPort Admin Utility" and it hangs on giving me a dialog box reporting that "This version of AirPort Admin Utility does not support this base station. ... <Continue>"
I get no response if I click the Continue button.
I can use cmd-Q to quit though.
Other than that, nope I don't have trouble connecting with the newer AirPort Utility over either wired or wireless connection to it. It's "Version 5.0 (500.50)" by the way.

  • Airport Extreme setup- No internet, am I missing somthing?

I used Airport Utility to set up an Airport Extreme network. I have a Comcast modem and a USB printer hooked to it. Both the cable modem and the Airport Extreme LED's indicate they are functioning correctly. My iMac recognizes the network I set up but I cant connect to the internet. If I hook the cable modem to the iMac directly I can use the internet or I can also connect using a near by unsecured wireless network, I just cant connect my Airport Extreme.
Is there a control in the system (Networking and/or Internet sharing) that I need to set? Any ideas? Thanks...

Cable modems need a complete reset whenever you make a change.
Push the reset button on the modem and power it down
Pull the battery if it is easily accessible
Power off everything else on your network...all devices....order is not important
    Wait at least 30 minutes
Make sure the modem's ethernet cable is connected to the WAN por (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme
Power up the modem first and let it run by itself for 4-5 minutes
Power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Power up each device the same way
    Post on your results

  • How to find airport extreme in windows 8.1

My windows 8.1 64bit wont find my airport extreme model A1408

Are you using wireless or ethernet?
Ethernet is always to be preferred.. please plug the computer in by ethernet if possible even if you are using wireless.
Does the computer get a valid IP address from the AE?
Open the command window (which strangely has never been replaced to this point).. and type
ipconfig /all (find the IPv4 address for wireless and ethernet).
If they get 169.254.x.x address then it is self allocated and there is simply no connection.
If you get proper IP address then ping it, using the command
ping AEname or ping AEIPaddress (where you use the network name or network IPaddress of the AE).
Certainly if your AE is named
    Fred Blog's Airport Extreme
That is not a valid windows name.. so you should fix the names on your AE.. use names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Please install the airport utility for windows.. there is none specifically for win8 but the win7 version should load.
That improves things with bonjour and some extra files.
Windows can firewall off the AE as unknown device. Ensure the computer is in home location, not work or public. Ensure that if you have correct IP address and ping fails then simply turn off your firewalls.
If wireless still doesn't work.. welcome to the world of voodoo.. you can have driver issues.
Post back exactly what the wireless card is in the computer.
