Cant find Itunes playlists in Time Machine

I backed up my Itunes with Time Machine to a passport external hard drive. I am now trying to move my Itunes library to another computer. When I go into the files I see a file under applications called Itunes.app but when I dig into it I cant find my playlist, songs, apps, any of that stuff to transfer. There is immediately a file called contents, then in that is (codesignat, frameworks,MacOS,resources, coderesources, info.plst (a quicktime), pkginfo, version.plist (another quicktime). All I want to do is move my Itunes to this computer, thought it would be as easy as sliding it over but its not converting. When I try to combine the libraries its not finding a music or app file in these. Does anyone know where in Time machine this would be backed up or what Im doing wrong?
important note, Im using Macdrive to move from my mac files to a PC. My Mac is dead but I had done a complete time machine backup prior to it.

Data is not stored in the application. iTunes data is stored in /Users/username/Music/iTunes.

  • How to restore *just one iTunes playlist* from Time Machine?

    Hi all --
I'm pretty picky about my iTunes playlists. There are several main ones ("Jazz Lite," "R&B," "Jazz Traditional," etc. etc.) and these playlists can overlap in their coverage/share certain songs.
So last Sunday I realized that I had fat-fingered things and had accidentally deleted the R&B playlist.
If possible I'd like to surgically restore *just that R&B playlist* from Time Machine and include it among all of the other existing playlists.
Although I've searched around on the internet for an answer, everything that has turned up so far seems to involve:
    - restoring ALL playlists from Time Machine
    - older version of iTunes (I'm currently using 11.0.3)
    Your help greatly appreciated!

For posterity's sake, since i had this issue too, i thought i'd post my solution.
Locate and save a copy, locally on your computer, of a library.itl file that would contain the playlist you need. I'd suggest saving to your desktop. name it so you'll recognize it as the old library file.
Quit iTunes if open, and relaunch, holding down the Option key immediately after
    when prompted, select "Choose Library"
Find the file you saved in step 1. this will launch iTunes with all the old playlists and such. Don't worry, it doesn't touch the actual songs themselves, so nothing is lost of from your current library.
Find the playlist(s) you want, right click on them and export. save them as .txt file (again, suggest desktop for ease)
Once all playlists you want to restore are saved, quit iTunes.
Launch iTunes, again pressing Option immediately after
Select "Choose Library" and select the Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Library.itl file. This will restore iTunes to the most current copy of your library
Select File -> Library -> Import Playlist and find the .txt file for your playlist on your desktop. et voila!

  • ITunes Playlist and Time Machine

I just spent a couple of hours making a playlist for an event. Then I made a couple more playlists for different parts of the event. All the while, Time Machine was dutifully making its backups. I was listening to some songs in the playlist and deleting ones that might not fit after all, when I accidentally deleted the entire playlist. No confirmation dialog from iTunes; it was just gone.
I hadn't lost hope yet, as I was certain that I could just use Time Machine to scroll back in time and retrieve the lost list. But that wasn't the case. The only version of "iTunes Music Library.xml" was the most recent version. For some reason, Time Machine doesn't keep an incremental backup of it.Most likely it's because it has to be kept exactly up-to-date or there would be orphaned/missing songs.
It figures. The one time I actually NEED time machine, it didn't seem to work. Unless I'm missing something.
Any ideas? At the very least, how does one re-enable the prompt on deleting playlists?

Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.itl  contains the playlists but it also contains all the other information about what you see in iTunes such as items added, ratings, etc.  If you last backup was not long ago and you have made almost no changes to your library since then, you could just replace that one file an more or less revert to what it was when the library file was last saved.  If you have added a few songs you could just find them in your media folders and drag them to iTunes again to bring things up to date.
If the above is not acceptable then there may be other ways to do it such as saving the old library file in another location on your computer, opening it in iTunes and exporting the playlists, then re-importing them in the current library.  This may also require some file editing and I haven't tried any of this to be able to advise you specifically at this point.

  • Can I retrieve an old itunes playlist from Time Machine?

Something happened, I lost all my playlists.  As a DJ, they were kinda important.  I cannot find them anywhere on my current hard drive.  I keep weekly backup of my system on an external drive using Time Machine.  Can I recover just my playlists from the last Time Machine backup?

The detail of the answer depends upon what exactly you want to do.  You can either restore your whole library back to the way it was at the time of the last backup (easy) or you really can recover just playlists (very fiddly but possible).

  • Unable to get find itunes music in Time Machine

Hi all. I'm new to this time machine, time capsule thing and have a stupid question. I use my time capsule to store my itunes library, something like 34000 songs, etc. When I go to sync my music some of it has an ! in front of the song selected. I go to itunes info and it tells me the music is in
file://localhost/volumes/time machine backups/itunes music/music/ with the name of the song. How can I restore the music to my itunes. When I go to the folder, there are a couple that say music, itunes music I don' see the music. Thanks in advance for any help.
    Robin

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
It sounds like you have both the originals of your music and your Time Machine backups on your Time Capsule.
If so, that's a problem, in several ways.
Please clarify just exactly what is where, and we can help figure out what to do.

  • Cant find system backup in Time machine disk

I use two Macs, one iMac and one Macbook Pro.
both are being backuped on the same Time Machine, but with different users.
Before changing disk on iMac I made full backup (700GB) and could see the files in the directory and I got no error messages when creating the backup.
I restarted the iMac with CmdR and I now find the Time Machine disks, one for the iMac and one for Macbook Pro. When choosing iMac (where I know there are files in the folder /timemachine imac/imac.sparsebundle/bands) it can not find any system backups and no backups to choose from! For the Macbook Pro backup I can find a lot of didfferent system backups to choose from!
Very annoying as I can see files in the backup folder for iMac in the Synology NAS 212j, Time Machine.
Please help me as I do not have access to my old disk (warranty disk from Apple)!
    Greatful for all tips!
    Thanks in advance!

Check Time Machine Preferences/Options to make sure nothing is being excluded.

I had my imac harddrive crash and istalled a temp drive now I cant find my backup on tim machine . any help?

If you ran Time Machine using your internal HD, your back up probably went with the HD.   Hopefully you didn't but if so, it proves the value of using an external HD.

I restored my safari bookmark playlist from time machine. But it again missing after sometime.Again I restored the same thing happns again.plz help

Triple-click the text on the line below to the clipboard, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
    Quit Safari.
    Select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "Bookmarks.plist" selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the folder open.
Relaunch Safari. It will open with the default set of bookmarks. Delete them all. Select
    File ▹ Import Bookmarks
from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Arrange the bookmark folders as you wish.
If Safari now performs normally, you can delete the old bookmarks file. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put back the file you moved, replacing the newer one with the same name. Close the Finder window and post again.

  • Werden iTunes-inhalte  in time machine gespeichert?

    1. Musik-Titel wurden bereits zweimal komplett gelöscht. Was kann der fFehler sein? Die Titel hatte ich von CDs geladen.
    2. Lassen sich Musik-Titel aus dem Finder in iTunes laden?
    3. Warum wird die Musik von iTunes nicht in Time Machine gespeichert?
    Thanks for your cooperation

It turns out that Time Machine cannot back up more than 1 hard drive
TM backs up all drives connected (internal and external) unless you exclude them.
TM will back up external drives automatically.
My iTunes library is housed on an external HD. This is also the external HD that I do the Time Machine backups on.
TM will NOT back up the drive it is on (as it's kinda pointless).

  • Why can't I find these files in Time Machine?

I've been trying for quite some time to copy my old time machine backups to a new drive.
Yet my folders seem to get scattered after copying.
Attached are screenshots of the error messages I get while copying my time machine backups. I have a strong suspision that my problem mainly has to do with the files that can't be copied "ds. Store" and "team fortress"
I don't care for these files, and I'd gladly delete them from my time machine backups. Yet I can't find them in my time machine backups.
    How do I fond them?
And has anyone else had this same issue as me?

    Here are the photos.
I wasn't able to upload them using my phone.

  • Cant restore iCal library from Time Machine ?

I could not find Calendar library in Time Machine; I was searching under my user name, nothing there
So how can I restore my iCal ?
By the way, I am not content with iCal, I would like another calendar, but is there anything for free ?

Yes it does. Open TimeMachine, then scroll to the backup, you want to restore. In the finder window (in TimeMachine) open the path suggested in my first post.
