Cant get external Monitor to run under Mountain Lion with Dr. Bott Mini Display port Adapter and Mac book Pro Retina!

Hey there,
somehow I cant get my Zalman Trimon Monitor to run on my new Mac book pro (2012, Retina). I tried hooking it up with the Dr. Bott Mini Display port Adapter see here  ( http://www.google.de/products/catalog?client=safari&rls=en&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&q =dr.+bott+mini+displayport&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=9085840057573220630&sa=X&e i=rHMeULWUNo7ysgaZvYGYAg&ved=0CHIQ8gIwBg#ps-sellers )
Neither on my new mac book (with thunderbold) nore with the 2010 Mac book pro 13 inch from my girlfriend both running Mountain Lion, would it work. Does anyone has the same troubles or knows a reason or fix? The monitor definitly works (tried with my old mac book) and this is already the second adapter I use, since I thought maybe the adapter doesnt work!
Help appreciated!

Hm, i cannot reproduce the kernel_task thing right now, but this is my temp after working with 2 screens for 10 minutes. is this normal?
100° cpu, 96° on the diode, and 78 on GPU chip? it even was 82 once.
when do i reach critical limits?

  • How do I get a video signal to an external monitor via the mini-display port on my Mac Book Air?

I can't get a video signal out through my mini-display port on my Mac Book Air (version 1).  Thus I can't feed BBC iPlayer to an external monitor.  There is some connectivity - the MAC wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible and sound is transferred.  Is it likely to be a cable connection problem (though the cable works with a Windows operating laptop)?

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black, blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.

How can I Upload Pictures, from my Mac Book Pro Retina Display with Mountain Lion OS? Tried but it gets as far as i pictures but does not open?

This is not necessarily 100% correct at the current time.
As Dropbox is encouraging people to set it up for automatic uploading of photos they gradually increment your space as you load more pictures for free at the current time.
You do start with a fixed 2 GB but if you upload photos you will be awarded more free space.
You can also open a free account with Flickr - you may have some upload limits per day but you can upload pictures there.

I am trying to install a program on my Mac Book Pro Retina from a Apple SuperDrive. Every time I run the installer, it says I do not have enough memory to install. However, I definitely have enough memory (186.74 GB). The program takes only 550 MB. Any ideas why?

Thanks for the clarification on the terms. I consider myself proficent at my computer, but not exactly in its inner-workings! I have 8 GB of memory installed.
I am still confused as to why I do not have any space for the program. This is the exact error message I get: "There is not enough free space on Macintosh HD disk. The Print Shop 2 application requires about 550 MB to be installed. Free some disk space and try again."
Thank you again for your help.

Can you suggest what I should do apart from shutting down word documents and other software, Parallels, Windows 7 when using FCP?
I am gravely concerned with this high heat. I have to use a remote keyboard it is so hot, but gravely concerned with with the damage the heat is doing to to MAC BOOK PRO RETINA.
ironic - given I switched to Mac from PC this year JUST for  FCP editing.
BTW - I am a film lecturer advising thousands of K-12 teachers and a have a report to deliver to the Education Department shortly.
    Please advise. Many thanks. Schbang

You didn't mention what sort of work you're doing - if you're just cutting video this shouldn't happen.
My suggestion would be to optimize all of your media to ProRes .
Even though PR is a much larger file it's much easier on the CPU. Playing back compressed media is like rendering all day.
I routinely use an old 2007 MBP with a core 2 duo and FCP7. I can cut and color correct with no problem at all using ProRes LT files. The only time it gets hot is during long renders.
I have the laptop elevated on a pedestal that allows air to pass underneath . During long renders I  point a small fan at it which often cools it enough to shut the internal fans down.
All that said, I know the retina is a more compact design and components are much closer to each other.
So, I'd be interested to hear from another retina owner.
    Good luck.

  • Female Mini Display Port Adapter - Connect Monitor to Non Mini Display Port

Anyone know of a Female Mini Display Port Adapter, so I can connect the 24 LED Cinema Display to a computer that has DVI connector? Or hook the monitor up to a KVM, so I can use the monitor with multiple computers?
I know Apple doesn't make these, but does a third party?
Monoline appears to be coming out with adapters to hook a mini display port computer to DVI and HDMI, but not a mini display port monitor to DVI or HDMI.

'Mini Display port' is just a smaller version of display port, which is a slightly different version of HMDI.
No. You may be thinking of Mini DVI. Mini DisplayPort is a smaller verion of DisplayPort, which is different from DVI and HDMI.
    <http://www.displayport.org/white-papers/whitepapers/DPTech_OverviewEnglish.pdf>
HDMI, display port, mini display port AND DVI are all capable of being 'converted' from one to another.
It is easy to make a Mini DisplayPort (card) to DVI (display) adapter because a DisplayPort card can be set to generate DVI signals. (Dual-link DVI is a bit more complicated since the adapter must sepatate the clock and data.). A DVI card cannot generate DisplayPort signals, so an adapter for a DisplayPort display with a DVI card would be a lot more complicated.
The ONLY thing that you would LOSE in a DVI to display port conversion is an audio signal.
HDMI is DVI video plus digital audio. DisplayPort does not use DVI video.
The point is they are all interchangeable, signal wise.
No. A DisplayPort card can generate DVI signals when a DuisplayPort to DVI adapter is detected, but a DVI cards cannot generate DiusolayPort signals.
But why should Apple make a cheap DVI to female display port when they can make more money on overpriced graphics card upgrades?
They can't make a cheap adapter, but they could have added a DVI port to the display.

  • Boot Camp Question .... I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp. If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"

I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp.
If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"... will it make my mac suseptible to viruses overall due to having a windows component? also will it make my mac slower as well

If you are only going to use one or two window only programs then I wouldn't waste the space.  Try WinonX it allows you to install exe. Files on Mac without installing windows.

  • Connecting la2306x monitor with mac book pro retina

    Hi There
I just bought an HP Monitor la2306x, and tired to connect it with my Mac book pro Retina. I attempted the connection via HDMI Cable and a HDMI to Display Port Adapter, but the monitor didnt find the connection.
I then attached an HDMI to DVI adapter to the Monitor and still nothing, the Laptop did seem to notice that i connected another display as the screen went on and off but nothing was shown on the monitor.
Using the same connection i tried connectiong my PS3 and it connected through HDMI to DVI.
Can the monitor work with Macs? I didnt think it would be a issue
Thanks a lot for your Help!

    Hello naja89,
You want to connect a monitor to your MacBook.
You might have to change a setting on the computer.
The cables connect to the Thunderbolt/Mini-Display Port, and you then have to select System Preferences > Display and use Mirroring or not according to how you want to operate.
I found this on the mac forums.
Here is the link to the forum.
Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

  • I just bought the mac book pro retina. I want to get the newest easiest book to read to understand how to use it. Any suggestions ?

I just bought the mac book pro retina. Im not good on the computer. I do the basics. Does any one know of the newest and easiest step by step book I can get so I can learn how to use it?

Mac for Dummies is a pretty good beginners' guide. But whatever you buy make sure it is a very recent edition, one that is relevant for the operating system on your MBR. The OS is updated regularly and guide books can become out of date.
By the way, iOS is not a Macintosh operating system. On the top left of the Maac screen, click the black Apple icon, then select About This Mac. The operating system is shown there.

  • HOT HOT HOT HOT!!! Mac Book Pro Retina, Mid 2012 with 2 external Displays HOT HOT HOT HOT!!!

    Hi,
i think i have a serious heat problem and i am a bit afraid of melting the mac book (It happend before with an older mac book pro, graphic card melted...yes, it did...)
    i own a Retina, Mid 2012
Processor  2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)
in use with 2 external Monitors, one TB Display and one Eizo (27" same resolution as TB) via display port and doing lots of stats with Stata and R on it and it get hot like **** (temperature monitor says around 95-100° degrees on graphic processor diod and around 80° on the chip.
furthermore, it creates kind of random kernel tasks with % CPU usage up to 500% (i read somewhere it does it to keeps internal cooling up...(??) ) and it is getting really slow... almost unusable.
Is this still healthy and the way it should be when i use it with 2 monitors?
Will i ruin it by using it like this all day long?
Apple says it could handle two displays. I think it can`t without killing itself on the long run (if you still USE it)
any ideas what to do? i allready use a cooling pad for it (cheap revoltec) but it does not really help, the macs and the pads fans run like crazy, its pretty noisy and gets really hot anyway
    Any experiences with 2 displays?
is there anything i can do about it?
    Better cooling pad solutions???
    Any other solutions??
    Any ideas welcome
    Thanks & Best
    Franz
