Cant get my music off ipod

i connected my ipod into my itunes and all my 500 songs are still on my ipod, but they have dissapered from my itunes library.the only music in my library are the recently purchased albums.
please help!

The iPod classic shouldn't be used to store the only copy of music or be considered a backup device. Put the music on a regular external drive or DVDs.

You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception being itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases

I have not had a computer for several years and I just got a new one. My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. Thank goodness I had it all on my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN. Now my problem is that I don't know how to get the music off my Ipod Nano onto my new computer!!! I was able to get the songs that I purchased thru ITunes by just authorizing my new computer. They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

My 40gb can be played but Itunes says it is corrupt. I want to get the music off the Ipod onto my new computer, old computer died which had all the data on it (crap on my behalf I know) Anyone know how to do this?

My hard drive is corrupt even though I can listen to the music on the Ipod. Itunes says it is corrupt so obviously cannot read it properly. You can hear the disk reader resetting every few seconds preventing the data recovery.
We can see the track listings and playlists which we used for our wedding in 2005 and desperately want them back.
Sadly we lost the hard drive that had Itunes on it with all our music which we dont have a back up of.
Is there anyway it can be repaired and then we get the music off the Ipod and get it back on a new pc....and back it up of course?!!!

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account. In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc. For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases. These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

There's many ways. If you search the forums, you'll find dozens of solutions. You can use the search box in the upper right portion of the discussions website.
Other wise what's the point of the ** thing.
It's an audio player... not a backup device.
If you rely on your iPod as a backup of your music.. then you are misusing the device. It's not intended to be used in this manner. Apple makes it difficult to get music off the iPod as a method to hinder music piracy.

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod. And here is a guide about how to transfer iPod music to computer on windows. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to the iPod and iPhone.
