Cant import .dng files

When I direct aperture to a folder on my hard drive, where I have imported some .fff and .dng files the files are unseen, even tho you can see them in the finder, just not in the import window in aperture???

In your reply you wrote that you has it set to JPG. You didn't say you had tried both nor did you tell us how experienced you are.
Here's a screen shot showing that if the the RAW+JPG type is set to RAW or Both DNG's are see in the import window.

Import DNG files processed in Bridge CS3

I have imported 500 DNG files that have had some adjustments made to them in Adobe Bridge CS3. Aperture 2 does not seem to recognise the RAW adjustments that have been made in Bridge. I copied some of the DNG files to a DVD and then opened the DVD on another computer that has Bridge and the adjustments stick with the DNG file. How can you import DNG files into Aperture 2 that have been processed in Bridge without having to make the adjustments again?

You can't. The raw conversion made by ACR can not be read by Aperture and vice versa. The only reason you can read the settings in the DNG- file on another computer with ACR is that the sidecar file is embedded in the DNG. If you had not converted to DNG, then you had to export the XML- sidecar file as well if you wanted ACR on the other computer read the settings made to the raw file.

See my reply to a later simplified version of your question. I don't think that either iPhone or iPad recognize RAW files such as NEFs. And the iPhone is not designed to be a mass storage device like a portable flash or portabel hard drive for temporary storage of files, if that's what you're after. As I mentioned in my previous reply, I have an iPad and have been experimenting with it as a tool for photography, hoping that it would be a nice travel tool for backing up and viewing photos from my Nikon dslr. But both the iPad and iPhone just are not set up to do that well. Both show photos nicely, but organization of photos is very frustrating since you can't create albums on the iPhone or iPad, but only back on your sync computer. (There is one very powerful photo organization app called SortShots, but you import photos to it and it organizes and stores the images wtihin the app not using the native photo app. It doesn't work with NEFs either.) I don't know of any RAW processing software for either device.

How can I import DNG files into iPhoto 8?

Shooting with a Canon Rebel XT, I've downloaded RAW files onto my hard drive, edited them in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) and saved them as digital negatives (DNG) with the .dng extension. Bridge and iPhoto work with these just fine, but iPhoto doesn't seem to want to import them.
Aside from saving them as jpegs or TIFFs, is there any way to get these files to play nice with iPhoto 8?

I'm having the same problem with iPhoto after editing my images in Bridge and converting the files to DNG before importing to iPhoto. The metadata on the DNG file will not show up in iPhoto when I import DNG files. Yet, if I convert the DNG files to JPEG and import the JPEG files into iPhoto all the metadata and keywords in the original DNG files is imported. I use Bridge and CS3 for editing but want to use iPhoto for asset management.

We know nothing about your system nor do we know anything about the files. It stands top reason that they are in a format AE simply doesn't understand. And well, special characters like question marks have no place in user folders and can cause all sorts of trouble. Rename your folders appropriately.

Every model of a manufacture's camera have a different RAW format and, therefore, you'll have to wait until Apple receives the necessary information from Sony so they can create a RAW Compatibility Updater that includes that model.
In the meantime you can try the Adobe RAW converter with might support that camera model to create a dmg file that iPhoto will recognize and begging shooting the highest resolution jpegs until the updater is released.

Aperture won't import DNG files: Panasonic Lumix FZ28

Well, i went to a seminar on aperture and got all excited to use it, downloaded the trial and discovered that it won't import my camera's RAW files (even though it came out 2 years ago and is supported in PhotoShop)
I've tried various way of creating DNG files with DNG Converter (the one that works with PS CS3) but Aperture doesn't recognize those, either. (linear, non linear etc) (Will the CS4 converter do the job?)
Is there anything else I should be trying? Have any of you had success with the same camera and what do you do?

Yep, that's what I discovered and it's the whole problem with the RAW files, but what about DNG?
I thought converting to DNG might allow them to be accessed: so you're telling me that I'm out of luck and have to stick with PhotoShop?
That dng is not a universal format recognized by Aperture?

Cant import RAF files into lightroom 5.2

I've just purchased lightroom 5 and I'm having problems importing my files. I first detected the problem with my CR2 files.
After investigating I found this person with the exact same issue: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5474641 I managed to fix the problem by changing the prefrence file as indicated here: Preference and other file locations in Lightroom 5
Now I'm trying to import my RAF files (Fuji x100) and I'm getting the exact same issue.
What should I do now????

But I'm now more confused then before. I'll explain and I hope I wont confuse you in the process.
It seems that, without having changed the permissions, 5 pictures from my Fuji were able to import into the Sub-folder I want from the copys I made on my desktop. The rest didnt. I tried it again and it didnt work. I tried it yet another time except into a distinct sub folder of the same main folder. It worked. NOTE: both subfolders are on a external drive.
Then I tried to import new pictures directly from my SD card into both sub folder mentioned before. "Could not be read" message was given. So, I imported the images to my desktop with no problem but I can't move the files using LR into the subfolders on the external drive.
I'm very inclined to agree with you both that its a permission issue with the folders on the external drive. The back story is that I've had past two separte problems with my computers hard drive and RAM. Part of the fix for those issues was to creat new user accounts. The old ones have not been deleted. (dont know how)
I'm telling you this because, in the sharing and permission window, the sub folder I want all these pictures to go dosent give the same User name as the main folder or other folders within it.
Main Folder has the correct user account (Privilage set to read and write) Below is staff (which is I've changed to read and write) and below that Everyone (which I've left as read only)
Sub folder I wish pictures to go has and Old User name. Below is not staff but Fetching and privilage is set to read and write.
I hope I havent confused you too much. I cant wrap my head around the fact that 5 pics managed to enter the sub folder without it being set to the correct user.
Must be said that this sub folder is in my personal (not profesional) work, which I havent touched for a while now.

No preview when I import DNG files from Leica M9

Hello,
A stange thing...when I import DNG from my Leica M9 direct from the APN card into Aperture I have no preview of the files I want to import...only the generic icon DNG.
If I import on a folder on the desktop and after I import in Aperture no problem.
Do you have the same problem ?

WAV files in iTunes don't have ID3 tags like you want.

Importing DNG files to Aperture 2.1.4

Hi,
I am very new to RAW image files and using aperture. I want to be able to take RAW image pictures and make use of them on aperture and so I have added CHDK on my canon ixus70. I know this topic has come up before but I can't seem to add to those.
Problem I am having is that once the pictures have been taken Aperture doesn't seem to support them. I have tried to convert the .CRW files using dng4ps2 which creates .DNG files (these were blank black files in aperture) and then converted those using adobe dng converter (these imported, but then said that they are unsupported by aperture).
I want to use Aperture as it has been the most recommended photography software, unless experts here can state otherwise.
Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my Canon SD1100 IS. I was converting the .CRW file to .DNG using DNG4PS2, compiled on Snow Leopard, then converting to Adobe DNG with Adobe's DNG converter. By generating the .DNG file right on the camera, as described here:

I was able to use the newest version of Adobe's DNG converter on the camera's DNG files and then import into Aperture. An older version of the DNG converter did not work. You will need to run a program on windows to generate a badpixel file per the instructions. Hopefully this works for you.

ITunes cant import WMA files

Windows Media Audio files cant be imported into iTunes. I bought a Olympus Digital audio recorder WS-100 and it seems to be one of the only models that works on a Mac, but I cant import the audio to iTUnes and I cant burn them to audio CD's that 99.9% of the world can read.
is there a way?

Maybe I'll stick with tapes. What a pain.. I have to buy software that costs about $30 just to burn a CD from my digital recorder. Nah I'll stay with tapes.
Got any digital recorders that record into a non WMA format? Dont reccommend me a iPod accessory, as the features are lacking compared to a standalone digital recorder.
My Zire 72 records into a WAVE format, but the audio quality cant compare to a standalone digital recorder.
Besides I can get more audio on a tape than on a CD and I have a ton of them left.
Perhaps I'll just stay with tapes. What a shame that I have to spend $30 just to import the audio into iTunes so I can burn a CD.

Leica M9 and Aperture3 not showing camera aperture setting when import DNG files. Shutter speed and ISO are indicated, but not aperture. When I export and open in Adobe Camera Raw aperture setting is displayed.

You will want to read this thread in its entirety.
The short story (as I understand it) is that the M9 body receives no information about aperture from attached lenses. It is able to derive an estimate of the aperture, though, and it lists this derived number in the metadata field "Approximate F-stop" (not the exact field name). Aperture (the program) does not report the contents of this proprietary field.

Big problem, cant import RAW files.

Ok so I have a Canon 20D, and Ive been shooting all my photos in RAW format, and was hoping that LR can read it. On my homePC I have a card reader, so it sees the files as RAW, and .jpg and Ive got no problems. But when I try doing this on my laptop which has no card reader, every program including LR only import .jpeg files. The RAW files are nowhere to be seen. Is this something I can fix? is the camera at fault? Will it be possible to import RAW files only if I get a card reader for my laptop?

Are you connecting the camera directly to your laptop? I believe there is an issue with Canon cameras and Lr. Check Adobe's documentation.
Also are you using Canon software to download from the camera?

Cant import DTS files into DVDSP3

I have tried improting DTS files into DVDSP3 with .cpt and .dts file formats, and even tried .wav . Right after I import it before shows up in the assets, it says "Could not import one file. Incompatible Format." Whats going on?!?!? Help would be apreciated fast. Thanks.

Solved it, had to empty my entire video library on the camera and all the recordings since then working in log and transfer.

Normally, dng files come from a camera or a utility designed to produce DNG files from camera RAW originals.
I am not aware of texture files coming in dng format. Are you sure they are dng? Could they possibly be png?
png files are not supported by Lightroom.
