Cant Import Powerpoint at all?

Hello!
I'm new to using Captivate 3. Ive been using the trial
version for the last few weeks and just recently had the license
key added. When I was trying to trail, I was able to import my
powerpoint presentations into Captivate as a new project without
any problems.
Due to some lack of communications between our IT department
and myself, I ended up having the trail removed from my machine,
and they reloaded it from the website to get the software back on
here for me when we purchased the license key.
Now when I go into Captivate 3 (version 3.0.0.580) and try to
import my same exact Powerpoint presentations, it give me an error
message with a big red X saying "Can not import ppt file.
So whats changed? Is there a setting somewhere in my default
set up that I missed on the download the 2nd time around? (I don't
have the version of the original Captivate3 download trial I was
using as they wiped it off my machine!)
Please advise.
Thanks!

Rick-
There is no security issues that my IT guy said would
interfere with this.
So, we went an uninstalled everything to do with captivate 3
on my machine, rebooted, reinstalled the trial download ( but it is
somehow still picking up the product key so its not technically the
trial version) and when I go to inport ppt, Im getting the same
error.
We went to another machine that imaged the same as my machine
(these are brand new machines that they just imaged in the last
couple of weeks) and we did the trial download there (without
entering the key) and it worked fine, so there is obviously some
file in one of these uploads/downloads that is messing this up.
Im not sure what to do at this point. I need this on my
machine and I cant get it to function.
I just tried recreating this on a new profile on my machine
and Im getting the same error. The only difference between my
machine and the others (where it is working) is that mine has the
reg key stored in it still, the others are working on pure trial
downloads.
Im wondering if there are any other options to pursue at this
point, or if it would be best to do a clean sweep and re image my
machine and start from scratch? It is willing to do that if that's
our only option...they wanted me to ask here first if anyone had
any other suggestions.
Thanks!

Sounds like an issue with the iPhoto Library
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Sony HDR-XR520, cant import into FCE 4.1 on my iMac

Can anyone help? I have just bought this new AVCHD camera and when I open FCE log and transfer wont work. Doesnt recognise the camera at all. I have also copied over the folder of the camera but the files appear dimmed out and cant import that way either.

Hi Tom, I am using the 1920x1080 (60i) codec setting. I have had a play around with the others but same result. Have tried the add folder, top level but wont import, it just keeps going through the levels and at the end they are dim.
This model has not been out long and has built in GPS. I wonder if FCE is incompatible at this stage? Shouldn't be but have run out of ideas!

  • Cant import my photos on pc

hi I'm having trouble syncing my iPhone 4 to PC running windows 7. Since updating to the latest version of iTunes and updating to ios5 I cant import my photos when I plug in my iPhone it says in iTunes that it is syncing and it goes through the 8 steps showed in the status bar in iTunes including the importing photos stage. but my photos are still not appearing on my computer. before the update when I plugged in the phone windows popped up a window importing photos and would do it automatically . I would  appreciate any help as this is driving me up the wall!!!! again thanks in advance

I would caution against "always do" and leave it uncheced. Otherwise when you connect iPod etc device it may not - did not for me - show up in iTunes anymore. That is more of a warning.
I would though consider backup, uncheck all the content you do sync, and resetting. And then sych media content back - one at a time, until you have it the way you need to.
Maybe even remove aside the iTunes backup data and do a fresh backup iPod to iTunes first.

  • I have iMovie 2011 and I imported PowerPoint slides with a soundtrack. Now I want to get rid of a small clip but it's not letting me do that.

I have iMovie 2011 and I imported PowerPoint slides with a soundtrack. Now I want to delete a small highlighted clip and it won't let me no matter what I do! Rosemary

First off....do NOT install MacKeeper!  It creates more problems than it prevents, and is a royal pain to get rid of once you realize this.
What I would do, since it sounds like you don't want to reorganize your email filing by the use of Smart Mailboxes, is to simply use the search box at the top of the Mail window to find only the emails you want to delete....then select them all and delete them.  For example, if you wanted to delete all of the emails from [email protected], you would type that into your search box, which will filter your inbox to only show you emails from [email protected]  Then Select All, and delete them.  You haven't deleted any others....only those from that person.
Then clear the search box to see the rest of your emails again.
Repeat this process to delete emails from other senders you no longer need.
(Once you've selected them all, by the way, you can control-click one if you need to save it).

  • Cannot Import PowerPoint into Responsive Design Template

    Hi,
I have a PowerPoint which needs to be converted to a Responsive Design Project. I notice that when I create a new Responsive design project, the Import PowerPoint is greyed out.
    Is this normal?
Also if I create a basic Captivate Project, is it possible to convert it to a responsive project if a client decides they require this, without a complete rebuild?
    thanks

It is not possible to import Powerpoint slides in a responsive project at all, seems logical to me but will not bother you with an explanation. The technique, programming is so different. The provided themes are responsive, PPT is not.
Same negative answer for your second question, for the same reason. You can use the assets from PPT, but will have to create your own responsive project.

No one here can help you because you supplied no information whatsoever.   Which model Mac are you using?  Which os are you using?  Which version of iMovie do you have?  What type of videos are you trying to import?
Any issues you are having in iMovie should be posted in its forum area.
Last but not least;  Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue.

I habe to Windows on my PC, 7 and 8, I dont have Problems with my win7 but in Win8 I cant import any file in my iTunes. Please help me

We know nothing about your system nor do we know anything about the files. It stands top reason that they are in a format AE simply doesn't understand. And well, special characters like question marks have no place in user folders and can cause all sorts of trouble. Rename your folders appropriately.

Running Captivate 8 on a Macbook and I am unable to import Powerpoint 2011 (which is up to date) files or slides.  I get an error saying that either the file is damaged or I am using an older version of PP....which is not the case.  I tried creating a very simple PP file with just a few words on one slide...ran a compatibility check and all was good.  Still could not import that simple slide into Captivate.

OK...found out it did not like me saving as a *.pptx.  When I save it as a *.ppt file it imported in correctly.  Is this what I will need to do moving forward?  I am not sure if I am losing any functionality in the process...

  • Importing PowerPoint slides failure

I have been using Captivate v1 for a couple of years without
problems. Recently I installed Norton 360 and it was a 360 degrees
turn for the worse, hijacking computer's ram etc, so I had to
uninstall it. I also run a utility that ereases all traces of
&^%$£ Norton. Well, after that I can't import my
PowerPoint slides into Captivate, the window is killed as soon as
it appears! Anyone has a clue what could it be? I've uninstalled
Captive and reinstalled it again, including the upgrade, but the
    problem persists.
    Thank you.

    Hi
If you get an answer to this please let me know because I've
got the same problem. I've imported PowerPoint that contains
hyperlinks that in conjunction with questions that if correct go to
the next slide but if wrong it reviews the relevant slide again
(played earlier in the presentation) and then automatically
hyperlinks back to start playing the multiple choice questions
again - can this be done in Captivate whilst still generating
    accurate scores?

  • Who likes to import Powerpoint and Keynote???

    Hello,
I recently got my new mac pro with final cut pro and am fairly new to the system ( I converted from Avid )
Im curious of anyone elses methods of importing powerpoint files because Im looking for the best way to do it without losing image quality.
One person had me open everything in Keynote then export it as a quicktime movie but I found not only did it look horrible but also when importing to FCP the duration seems to be 0 frames and FCP wont import that quicktime.
Im used to just exporting the files as .TIFF and then importing them but again you lose image quality so I was wondering if anyone else has any ideas.
    thanks,
    jeremywearsvans

I just had to bring a PPt presentation into our current show. (loads of fun).
This was my workflow...hope it works for you, or at least points you in the right direction.
NOTE - I don't have PPt on my mac, so this was all done on a PC, then sneaker-netted to the mac...
-Open PPt presentation, click on the first slide.
-Open Photoshop / New File (create parameters of choice for your graphics.
    -alt/tab back to PPt
-click PPt to full screen, wait for 'play' icons to disappear at bottom left, then hit "Print Screen"
-alt/tab back to Photoshop, cntl-v to paste screen grab
-control/shift/s to save as "filename 01a" (your flavor...tiff, png, etc.)
    -alt/tab back to PPt
-Hit enter to trigger next element of slide 01 (wait for icons to disappear), then hit "Print Screen"
-alt/tab to Photoshop, cntl/v to paste this next element of slide 01, save as "filename 01b"
Lather, Rinse, Repeat...changing filename convention as you work through the various PPt slides/elements.
I find that most PowerPoints are created with no regard to title/screen safe. So I often end up sizing them down from full screen and placing the slides over a moving background of some sort.
If you're doing something like that and want all the slides have the same parameters, then drop them on their own timeline, create the parameters you need (basic motion, crop, drop shadow..etc) on the first clip...then you'd:
    -control/click, select 'copy'
    -deselect the first clip.
-type 't' once and click the curser on the second clip in line (will select all remaining clips in timeline)
-control/click on any of the selected clips and select 'paste attributes'.
-check off the attributes you modified on the first clip
-create a new bin in the browser...named something like "PPT clips_modified".
-select all in the timeline, copy them and paste them into the new bin. Then you can work down the list.
There are modifications to these processes and maybe someone has a better way, but it worked for me.
    Hope that helps.

  • I am having trouble importing powerpoint to captivate

I am having trouble importing powerpoint to captivate.
I am using captivate 6 and powerpoint version2013.
I have saved my file three times with the right sequence, but when it converts to captivate ischanges the sequence of the slides.  Not all slides have animation.

    Hi there,
Can you please tell are you importing the .ppt or .pptx?
Captivate 6 is not tested with PowerPoint 2013, please check the help file link: http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/microsoft-powerpoint.html
If the sequencing of slides is not O.K., then are you able to manually change the sequence in captivate? (as a workaround).
    Thanks.

  • Problem importing PowerPoint

I have Captivate 2 running under XP, with MS Office 2003.
Till two weeks ago, everything was working fine. Then I did a
Captivate project using extremely large files, and now I can't
import PowerPoint slides. When I try to import, I get a pop-up
saying "Could not open PPT file". As a workaround, I can record
PowerPoint slide shows by clicking the Print Screen button on every
    slide, but this is inefficient.
I've spoken a number of times to Adobe support (level 1 and
2), and have tried all kinds of things, including reinstalling my
Flash player, making sure I'm the administrator on my machine,
deleting all Captivate directories on my hard drive before
reinstalling, installing Captivate with the Repair option checked,
reinstalling PowerPoint. Nothing is working. They suggested I post
a message here to see if anyone else has had this problem. In the
meantime, I'm awaiting a callback from their Level 3 support.
    Thanks in advance!

Holy cow!! Adobe has a 3rd level of support? Cool. Only
partially kidding ... I really didn't know you could access various
levels. Is the 3rd level where you get to talk to the actual
    engineers? Just wondered ...
Joel, in my experience it is often helpful to go to the most
basic approach in trying to isolate a problem. For instance, you
can eliminate the PPT being the cause of the problem by creating
    another to try importing.
You can eliminate computer resources (on your own machine) by
importing a tiny, tiny PPT file and work up to a larger one.
And finally (for now), have you tried to use Power Point's "
File > Page Setup" to reduce the footprint (size) of the
PPT you are trying to import into Captivate?
This has been known to help, and at one time years ago I even
had a formula of sorts to get the size of the PPT to compliment the
size of the Captivate stage (slide). Sadly, I can't find that now,
but I would think you should keep the aspect ratio (AR) the same,
    and that should help.
For instance, if the Captivate project is 800x600 (pixels),
the aspect ratio is 4:3 (as it is for the standard computer
monitor). Therefore you would want to set up your Power Point
project with that same AR so that the import process is not forced
to change AR, or to crop the imported images.
Hope there is something of value in there for you. When you
get up to that level of help where you are talking to the President
of Adobe, could you drop my name ... every little bit helps.
Have a very nice day JoelStern!!

  • Importing PowerPoint QuickTime Videos is inconsistently successful --- WHY?

I'm trying to use QuickTime videos created by PowerPoint in some of my iMovies. To get better resolution of fine detail, I've been rendering at 1280 x 960. Usually, the QT file gets anti-aliased in some manner when I import it, and all is good. However, lately, I'm getting very jaggy results!
I've noticed that when things work normally, a Get Info window on the QT file exported from PowerPoint will list the Codecs Sprite, Color Balance Filter, and Base. When the imported video is jaggy, the Get Info window on the QT file exported from PowerPoint will list only the Codecs Sprite and Base.
Any clues? I NEED these slides to look smooth, and they have always looked great until recently. Now, sometimes things work, and sometimes they don't!

Okay, I found the reason on my own! This may help you if you've ever wanted to import PowerPoint slides into iMovie with reasonably smooth text and graphics.
The solution is to include at least one short dissolve in your show! If you do that, PowerPoint forces the use of the Color Balance Filter codec in the QuickTime movie. Apparently, that is the key to smoothing (anti-aliasing?) the text and graphics in your slides!
I output 1280 x 960 resolution in my files from PowerPoint. This gets down-sampled to 640 x 480 with the aforementioned smoothing. Results are very acceptable for corporate training videos.
