Cant insert and cd or dvd

hi
i was burning a cd with toast 7 and i suddenly heard a weird noise from my superdive. I hardly managed to eject the cd and since then it doesnt letting me insert any cd.i tried to push some cds in and it ejects them back.im using an imac 2.33ghz,and my ATA BUS is PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06.any help?

I just had a similar thing happen... I was successfully burned a cd via itunes, hit the eject button, heard an odd noise, and it didn't eject. It was still on my desktop, so I tried dragging it to trash, that worked, the disk ejected. But now, I can not insert any cd (blank, or music) or even dvd... it makes a few noises, does not spin up to speed, and simply ejects the disk with no error code.
I think I'm going to try and call tech support tonight and see if they can't send me a replacement drive... it's only 5 months old
If anyone has advice, I'd appreciate it. Has anyone replaced their 24" intel imac CD drive (8x DL superdrive) before? Is it easy or difficult? Tips would be appreciated.
Thanks

    greetings from berlin

    Greetings,
    It appears to be a FW problem, possibly flaky case, or drive problem.
    One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
    If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
    Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
    Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

    With a corrupt disk, the install procedure is most likely going to fail.
    How old it the disk?
    You might be able to reformat it to fix the problem. Of course that means you lose all of your data.
    The other alternative is to get a new disk drive and put that in your Mac and install OS X
    Then put the old disk drive in an enclosure and see what can be recovered from it.

    Likely either the batch of media is defective, or the drive itself is not working.
    Swap for different media; for a different batch from a different vendor, and also try +R media.
    The slot-loading drives on various Mac systems can and variously do fail.  If different media doesn't work, then you probably have a failed drive.
    If your Mac is of same the vintage as OS X v10.4 that's listed in your footer and you're not in a position to replace or repair the optical drive in your Mac, then you might consider using an external USB CD/DVD device.  If you don't have another Mac around to perform the recording on, that is.

    To create a OneStep DVD:
    Connect your DV camcorder to your computer and set the camera to VTR, VCR, or Play mode. Turn on your camcorder if it doesn't turn on automatically.
    Open iDVD and click the OneStep DVD button. (If iDVD opens to a recent project, choose File > OneStep DVD.)
    Insert a recordable DVD disc.
    iDVD rewinds the tape in the video camera and captures the video.
    ------------or-------------
    To burn a OneStep DVD from a folder:
    Choose File > "OneStep DVD from Movie."
    Locate the movie you want to add in the dialog that opens, then click Import.
    Insert a blank DVD disc into the optical drive.
    This kind of disc is sometimes called "kiosk mode" and is a good way to create demos or other presentations that play automatically and require no user interaction.

    I bought a movie with the digital copy and it gives me option to redeem it with iTunes, but when I type in the redeem code it shows a message saying: " you must insert your digital copy dvd in this computer in order to redeem this code" . The dvd is in. WTH? This is especially with FOX movies, I never have trouble with Universal Picture movies.

    Thanks for your reply, but you might have misunderstood it a bit. I'm NOT trying to buy a movie. ****, I'm not even in the actual Apple Store, when this happens I'm in the library not the Store part of iTunes.
    To clarify - I have purchased a physical copy of a movie which came with another physical copy which contains the digital copy. The digital copy is on the DVD, all I need is just to transfer this file to my iPod Touch, for example, I'm not trying to download it from the store or repurchase it and it's not any gift code that I've received, the digital copy is on the disc. This is the first time ever that I've purchased something on a disc and I'm not allowed to access it because the disc hasn't been purchased within my country.
    So again - I'm not attempting any purchase or download any purchased digital copy - it's on a DVD I own physically so... why is even the region of my Store relevant, the code I enter is (as I assume) just supposed to check if it's a legal genuine copy (which it is, as I've said - there are 6 discs in the pack: 3 movies on 3 Blu-rays and 3 DVD containing these digital copies of them). If I own it, I think that's proof enough that I have the right to use it. I just don't get it. I fully agree with you and understand your point if there was any purchase going on here, but it's not, it's just - I put a disc into my computer and I can't access it

  • IMovie '08 Capacity Full and Cannot Transfter DVD's into Macbook

    I recently purchased a 13" Macbook Unibody off eBay. The unit is in good shape and the previous owner has installed a Zagg Invisible Shield over the entire Macbook and the battery holds a full charge. I bought the Macbook to use editing some old VHS footage I had converted to DVD.
    When I try to import a DVD to my desktop so I can edit it using iMovie '08, I get the error "Unable to create 'DVD Video Recording.dmg' (Input/Output Error). At the bottom of the screen it says DVD Video Recording Capacity 2.1 GB
    Avaiable 0 Bytes
    Used 2.1 GB
    Number of Files 4,293,886,887
    The Space Utilized indicates: 20.09 GB and Space Free: 277.69 GB. When I received the Macbook I inserted the Applications Install DVD and entered my personal info. I thought this was the clean install you are referring to?
    When I purchased the item, the previous owner stated the only blemish was a dead pixel at the bottom of the screen and he showed a picture of it in his add. After re-installing the applications DVD, this one dead pixel is no longer there. I don't know if this is a clue, but I am including all the info I can.
    I checked out System Memory in the Activity Monitor and it indicates

    When I double clicked on Activity Monitor it indicates:

    Why do these numbers fluctuate every second or two?
    Why won't my Macbook Transfer DVD's into the hardrive so I can edit them with iMovie? Thank you for your help.

    Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive.  Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth)  around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
    If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.

  • How to I import video AND audio from DVD ?

    I have been sent a DVD on a holiday from a friend. I want to edit this. When I try to import it into iMovie I can import the VTS0104.VOB file, but this gives me just the images and NO sound. How can I get the sound too?

    There is another way of importing DVD footage into iMovie 08 directly, without using any third party software, but you have to trick iMovie into thinking that it is not a DVD. I had hours of home video footage from my old 8 mm camcorder which i recorded on DVD's, and from here succesfully imported into iMovie. Both video and sound.
    Try this:
    1. Insert your DVD and quit DVD Player, when it pops up.
    2. Open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility). Select the DVD inserted, and click on "New Image" (on the toolbar). Save the disk image to a convenient location (eg. desktop).
    3. Mount the disk image -> Double click on the file, or select open with "DiskImageMounter")
    4. Open iMovie 08., .... and "Camera detected, scanning content ... " message will appear. Happy editing!
    I believe Apple does not advertise this iMovie feature, because of potential copyright issues, ... but importing from home made DVD's has nothing to do with it. I wish Apple will come to realize that, and make our life much easier. Certainly, there is a way to tell the difference between DRM protected and home made DVD's.
    Cheers!

  • JClient: after INSERT and COMMIT does not show the primary textfield value

    1. In my JClient master-detail form: When I insert a new record, enter data, and commit the changes... the master-panel's primarykey textfield is BLANK, when it should show the new auto-incremented number from the MySQL database. I have to close and open the form again to refresh that field again.
    2. In order to properly save new records in the detail-panel, I have to insert and save the above master-panel first. Is this the way JCLient handle master-detail forms?
    Thanks.

    Hi. Thanks for sharing your advice.
    Re my problem,
    if we have to refresh data by requery,i suggest you should use the way below:
    private JUNavigationBar navBar = new JUNavigationBar(true,false,true,false,true);
    navBar.setModel(JUNavigationBar.createPanelBinding(panelBinding, navBar));
    // after insert ,call this method
    navBar.doAction(navBar.BUTTON_EXECUTE);Tried this out but my textfield still won't get refreshed. Here is the code I came up with:
        private JUNavigationBar navBar = new JUNavigationBar() {
                public void doAction(int button) {
                    if (button == JUNavigationBar.BUTTON_INSERT) {
                        super.doAction(button);
                        navBar.doAction(navBar.BUTTON_EXECUTE);
                        return;
                    super.doAction(button);
            };Re your problem,
    I am developing application with JDev + MySQL,encounted another problem,
    how can i get the primary key supported by auto_increment column after insert?
    i constructed a vo whose sql statement is
    select last_insert_id() as last_id to get the value of auto_increment column.
    i found it can't get the right value unless commit the transaction.
    Would u please tell me your way?Based on what I experienced, we dont have to do the SELECT statement above. MySQL does auto-increment the primarykey but the JClient form just cant show it immediately, unless we close and re-open the form.
    What did I do to refresh the primarykey during insert? Please note that I got this solution accidentally coz I'm still a newbie in Java.
    A user want to add a record:
    1. He presses the Insert button.
    2. He enters data into a component (ex. textfield)
    3. The component's action-performed event is fired, and the following code is run:
            DCJboDataControl dc = (DCJboDataControl)panelBinding.getDataControl();
            ApplicationModule am = dc.getApplicationModule();
            Transaction tr = am.getTransaction();
Transaction();
            ViewObject vo = am.findViewObject("TblaccountsView1");
            vo.executeQuery();
            vo.last();It simply commits the transaction, goes to last (new) transaction, and lets the user continue his data encoding.
    Hope it helps and I hope theres an even better way to do this.

  • Self ejecting Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5 DVD

    i recently went out and purchased leopard for my mac which has sufficient requirements to run 10.5. However when I insert the dvd into the superdrive it fails to read it and spits it out. So i borrowed a friends Tiger dvd and it spit that out as well...however when i insert the panther dvd it works fine...as do dvd-r and cd-r and dvd movies as well....i ran a hardware test and found nothing and i've checked for firmware updates and need none and can't seem to figure out wha the problem is...im becoming very frustrated. please help.

    I have the exact same issue and the eMac drives and/or install DVD's are not bad. I support a small office and have two eMacs I want to upgrade to Tiger (both currently have 10.3.9). I have several Tiger install disks and all are rejected after drive insertion on both eMacs - no warning message. Firmware up to date and neither have Super Drives. All the Tiger disks show on other office computers. Other application disks are read fine by both eMacs. I've created a Tiger install image and can't get the eMacs to start from the image either (even after using Startup Disk selection to chose the mounted Install DVD volume on the desktop). I've attempted to install from the install image over the network - still no go. No matter what you must restart the eMac to install from the image and the restart loses the link to the image. If only I could get these guys to read from an install DVD ......... Please advise if possible!

    Just wondering if someone knows about this problem and what to do about it:

    Hello BabyBoomer;
    Thank you for your post. My computer is running with Magsafe.
    Earlier I had been repairing disk permissions. No problems were found.
    Now I started Disk Utility and verified disk for errors.
    Following Problems were found:
    Volume header needs minor repair.
    Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
    Volume needs repair.
    Though when I repaired the disk, no problems were found??? But problem still exists. I'm getting a new hard drive soon. Maybe that solves the problem, if the problem is the hard drive.
    Also, sometimes when I start disk utility, the computer crashes.

    Same scenario here. TDM inserts on channels crash the program. Just signed up for Pro Tools course. I have been a Logic guy for 7 years. Sadly, time t move on. My studio is TDM based and Logic has been slowly evolving into a glorified Garage Band. Version 9 is the exit ramp for me.

  • DVD Player suddenly stops recognizing and playing homemade DVDs

    The DVD Player in our G5 has suddenly stopped recognizing and playing some home made movies on DVD from several friends. These discs played just fine before, but now we get a message that says "supported disc not available".
    I've got the latest version of DVD Player 4.6.5. Why would it suddenly stop reading all these DVDs? Thanks for any ideas or help. Bob Krist
    G5 Tower   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A player

    My experience/opinon:
    Without blaming Apple, it is a DigitalRightsManagment
    problem, Apple is obligated to fullfill. You will
    find that your homemade DVD plays fine on any
    ordinary PC or even annother MAC-environment, just
    not on your own.
    As of Mac-OS-X.46(5 not quite sure ) Support for
    UDF-Format ceased,
    I believe to have read somewhere. So your DVD is
    mounted, but does'nt
    show up on the desktop.
    I am using OSX 10.4.7 (Build 8J135) DVD Player 4.6.5 (Framework 4.6.6)
    Home-made video DVD-Rs work fine. DVD player starts when a disk is inserted. The disk shows up on desktop. Get Info and Disk Utility show UDF (Universal Disk Format). Finder shows the VIDEO_TS folder, .VOB files, etc. Get Info's Preview window will even play the .VOB files.
    So, UDF read support is still in OSX 10.4.7 OSX has never had UDF write support except for iDVD.
    I personally record movies from TV, legally. And my
    solution to that problem is to create a Disk-Image,
    that I burn on a data-disc, and I don't use
    DVD-Player.
    DVD Imager <http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html> will create UDF disk image files from VIDEO_TS folders. When you burn these with Disk Utility they will play in standalone DVD players and in Macs. They will start Apple's DVD Player when inserted.
    Toast can also create UDF disks.
    If you create non-UDF disks (e.g. with Disk Utility), most standalone DVD players will not play them and Apple's DVD player will not start automatically when the DVDs are inserted. You can still play them with Apple's DVD Player by using "Open DVD Media" from its "File" menu and choosing the VIDEO_TS folder.
