Cant install desktop manager
I just bought a brand new high end laptop and desktop manager will not install on it.
To start I received a warning that the desktop manager i was downloading from blackberry's site was "unsafe".
After telling it to download anyway i cannot run the file. It pops up a message about the data1.cab being damaged or incomplete. So i converted it to a zip file, extracted and tried installing that way. Again it said the data1.cab was incomplete. I had an older version (5.0) on a different laptop that i transferred over and tried to install. It again displayed the same error message.
Does anyone have any ideas on what may be the issue?
Thanks
Hello Shandower,
You may want to try downloading another copy of the software from the following location:
BlackBerry Desktop Software
I would save the software and run it from its location for the installation process.
Cheers,

Can not install Desktop Manager because of DEP.
Good day BlackBerry users,
I've just got myself a BlackBerry Storm 1, and I'd like to install the desktop manager.
I've downloaded the install from the site and I tried to install it.
In the beginning it's going well, I start it, select my country... but then...
...When I've selected my country and I click next the install freezes and I get the DEP error.
I've looked around these forums, but I do not get any help.
Could someone please help me?
I'm pretty annoyed by this error.
I hope to get a useful answer.
Kind Regards,
Jurriën van Rooij.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Unfortunately no, like with most software installations, information has to be written to certain parts of the computer, such as the registry, and you can't just use a USB flash drive to run your applications.
This error is a Microsoft Windows error and occurs when Windows detects code running from a protected location. At this point, Microsoft is your best bet for support as this is not a BlackBerry Desktop Manager error.
Thanks

Problems installing Desktop Manager 6 on Windows 7
I just got a new computer (3 weeks old now) and I wanted to set up the desktop manager. I downloaded the file from the BB site but when I get to the installer I get an errors message "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package".
I've updated windows and tried re loading the DM but same problem...
Would really appreciate any help.Which version of windows 7?
What kind of errors do you get?
(For example installing under windows 7 starter edition (typically on a netbook) might need some tweaking of the setup.ini file.
I recently installed LabVIEW 8.2 under w7 enterprise 64bit without any problems.

Error installing desktop manager
I downloaded the latest version of Desktop Manager (v. 5.0) to upgrade from v. 4.3.0.17. When the software began installing the following error shows: "Can't create output file: Autorun.inf".
I'm using Windows XP Professional.Strange. I looked but didn't see that error in the knowledge base.
Have you tried rebooting?
Are you the Administrator on the account? Can you try to log into another account on the PC and try installing the software?

Installing desktop manager for pc
Got a playbook for mother's day and I have been enjoying it a lot but I can't launch the desktop manager. I have downloaded it and installed it but when I try to open it closed. I have removed it and reinstalled but no change. I am running Microsoft xp with sp3. I have read and done some of the suggestions mention on this forum.
OK...well, just in case (and because, from your words, I cannot tell all of the things you may or may not have done...)...
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
Further, it has also been reported that when your user profile on windows (type 'echo %userprofile%' in the command prompt) contains spaces, then the installer will not work. In order to solve this issue, log out of your Windows account and log back in using the local Administrator account (or any other account name without spaces) and install the desktop (for all users).
1) Remove your device OS update package(s) from your PC (add/remove programs)
2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM Desktop Software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported that manually removing all Registry Keys related to Research In Motion, BlackBerry, Puma, etc. to be helpful
Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
Still others have reported the use of your original PIM (e.g., Outlook, NOTES, etc.) installation CD, running the "repair" process, to be helpful in some situations
3) Get a fresh download of the RIM Desktop Software:
http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
5) Install the Desktop Software to your PC
6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
7) Retry whatever process was desired.
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

Now it says, Before you begin, verify that your current Blackberry device is connected to your computer. So I connect the BB 8900 Curve to the Vista 64 machine. The Curve asks me for my password. I enter it. Then there is a pop on the PC that wants to install the driver software. I say okay. It searches but does not find it.Gives me a notice Blackberry Failed. So the Vista 64 cannot see my Blackberry.I have the 4.6 OS on the blackberry. I tried upgrading the 4.6 OS to 5.0 OS but it is not supported by Rogers right now.Is there a link to a USB driver that will enable me to connect the 8900 curve to the Vista 64 machine so I can verify my device is connected to the computer and complete the install? Thanks for any help.
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Is your local account on that PC administrator level? Also, it is often helpful to use the "Run As Administrator" when launching the installer. Please give that a try and see if it helps.
Cheers!

Trying to install Desktop Manager, could use some help.
I'm trying to install on a PC running windows XP. did a complete uninstall per KB02206. The installer gets to this point:
Installing Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 sp1 (web download).
Which brings up the following Dialogue box:
Please wait while setupup configures the component. This might take several minutes.
Several minutes elapse, then:
The installation of Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 sp1 (web download) has failed. Setup will now exit.
Gee, setup, thanks for telling me why it failed. Maybe one of you kind souls has some advice on how I can make this work?
Solved!
Go to Solution. Can you try to install the framework first from here?

Can't Install Blackberry Desktop Manager - error 1303
Trying to install desktop manager and I get error message "Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to acces this directory: C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\Blackberry\1003. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator."
I am running Windows 7, Home Premium, SP1.
Any ideas please? I am the administrator.Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I can find no formal reference to that error...perhaps you may have better luck searching:
http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/microsite.do
Otherwise, I suggest this thread:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
You may need to use the actual administrator account or an account with admin rights, and/or use the Run As Administrator option.
Good luck!

Desktop Manager 5.0 / Roxio Media Manager Fail to Install
I am getting error 1904 module when trying to install Desktop Manager 5.0 (see errors below). I am the administrator on this laptop (hpdv8130us).
I have tried the solution where you create a reset.cmd via notepad. Result was the same.
Also, I tried a clean installation and still receive the same errors.
If I hit okay to the errors the next step is that it tries to install Roxio Media Manager and that hangs after the progress bar is complete (I let it sit for 4 hours). When I go to cancel Roxio Media Manger, it also hangs there as well. The only to get past this screen was to enter task manager and end the "dumprep.exe" process. While this gets me past the hangs/freezes, when I start DM5 it works but when I go to start Media Manager, it opens but doesn't load, the computer still runs albeit slowly because Roxio is now using 85-95% of system resources.
Running Windows XP with the latest service pack.
These are the errors I receive when trying to install Desktop Manager 5.0

Message Edited by qwick on 07-27-2009 07:22 AMHello qwick and welcome to the forums!
It sounds to me like the installer is having trouble registering some required dlls. This article might help you out with this issue.
Also, do you know if you already have any Roxio Media Managers installed on your computer? Did you have a previous version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed and if so, did you uninstall it before installing this new one or install the new one without uninstalling the previous version?
hope to hear from you soon

Desktop manager cannot be installed
Hello list,
I am trying to fresh install "610_b034_multilanguage.exe" for 9900 smartphone on Win XP system. After starting installation, it starts configuring windows installer and shows a window with few command line options. After that, it just stops installation and program exists (i.e. does not install desktop manager). Just to ensure, I have updated XP with all latest updates and patches.
Is there any way out? Appreciate help.
Thanks.
YogeshHi yogeshdange,
Can you please verify in the system requirements section of the Desktop Software release notes that your computer meets all the system requirements? http://bbry.lv/r5RR7B
Can you verify that the Windows user account you are installing it in has local admin priveledges?
If all system requirements are met, try downloading and saving the .exe file on your PC and running the installation from the saved file. The instructions in the resolution of this article should help with the installation. http://bbry.lv/qcXdWL
Hope this helps.

Desktop manager doesn't reinstall on Windows 7 machine
I have been trying to install desktop manager and continue to get errors. I started by installing the CD from Verizon, but when it installed it generated a blank black window with no menus. At that point I tried to update from the web, but it wouldn't verify that the blackberry device was plugged in to the computer after installation. Then I tried to procedure for a clean uninstall on the support blog. The procedure had no specific instructions for windows 7 but I thought I followed it closely. Now the install wizard starts but says that it was interrupted prior to completion and no modifications have been made. Does someone have a work around to install the software if some unidentified piece remains on the hard drive? Thanks.
Just to make sure, you followed all the steps about performing a clean uninstall correct?
Does other software install fine and just not the Desktop Manager. Try downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555175
If it finds references to the Desktop Manager it should be able to remove them for you. Afterwards reboot the computer and try to install Desktop Manager from the web again.
