Cant install iMovie 6 owning iLife 08'?!

Hi, I own a Macbook purchased few months ago, just before the new line came out... :P.
On it I found pre-installed iLife 08' including therefore iMovie. I needed some features that were lacking on imovie 08', and seraching aroud this forum i found out that iMovie 6(having those features) was available for download to users owning iLife 08'. Excellent.
From this post (on which i also left a comment):
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8745892#8745892
I Found the link and downloaded it.
I tryed to install it but it said: "the installation cannot continue as I need iLife 08' installed".
Can anyone help with this?
Thanks.
Ps: i am not sure if this post will count as "double-post" having left a comment on the that link i just gave. If so I am sorry, I thought that being the question marked as solved it was closed.

Thnx all!
I have done as suggested and all went fine!
Fortunatly i had already downloaded iLife06 HD before they removed the link from the site ;P
Firewire... I know some people really like it and am sure they have all the good reason in the world to do that. But so far, I have never used it in my all life.
Thanks all again!

  • How do I install iMovie 06 with iLife 09 ?

I have installed iLife 09 on my MacBook. I don't like the new iMovie version and want to go back to iMovie06 but keep the rest of iLife 09. I don't even care if iMovie 09 is still there, I won't use it. I have the install disks for iLife 06 from my old computer. How do I do the installation? Do I first need to remove iMovie 09? Or do I have to remove all of iLife 09 and re-install all but iMovie 09 after installing iLife 06? What is the easiest path for me? I want all of iLife 09 except I want iMovie 06 in place of (or in addition to) iMovie 09.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Many people use iMovie 06 with iLife 09 & 08
There are 2 ways to do this.
    1) Use Pacifist to install just iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk.
Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages, .dmg disk images, .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .pax, and .xar archives, and more, and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package.
    2) Delete iLife 09, install all of iLife 06, then re-install iLife 09.
When iLife 09 is installed, all of the old iLife applications are automatically deleted EXCEPT iMovie 06, because Apple WANTS you to have it.
I like method number 1 myself.
    I use both iMovie 06 and iMovie 09 (iMovie 06 about 90%, iMovie 09 about 10%).

  • Cant install iMovie 10 after Mavericks urgrade

    Hi guys
I have a 2011 MBP which came pre installed with iMovie, i have upgraded to every iteration of OS X and have always been able to use iMovie afterwards. But now i have upgraded to Mavericks, i cannot install iMovie to my computer. When i go into my purchases it says 'Accept', I click it and it asks for my ID etc but it still wont download and still says accept.
The thing i think is the problem is I reset my computer to factory settings a few days before i upgraded to Mavericks
    help please

I have the same problem. iMovie was find on the Developer Preview but upgrading via App Store from ML results in this "Accept" thing for iMovie. Hopefully someone posts something soon.

  • IMovie HD 6 install doesn't find iLife '08

I want to install iMovie HD 6.0.4 for iLife '08 but when I try to use the install pkg, it does not find that I have iLife '08 (which was preinstalled). Any way to make it recognize that I have it?

Never getting an answer to this question, I went ahead and purchased *iLife '08*. As expected the installer will not and did not install *iMovie 7* on a G4. However, I'm happy to report that the downloaded *iMove HD 6* will install after *iLife '08* has been installed even if it doesn't include *iMovie 7*.

  • Message:  PLEASE INSTALL iLIFE 08 BEFORE INSTALLING iMOVIE HD 6  ...  huh?

My two year old Macbook's hard drive completely croaked two months ago and I got a brand new one installed under my warranty. Now I have OS X 10.4.11. It came loaded with iPhoto 08, iMovie 08, iDVD 08, GarageBand, and iWeb 08... so I assume that means I have iLife 08.
Well on iMovie 08 I can't work on any of my movie projects I had backed up. I tried to install iMovie 6 that I downloaded but can't install it: the message says to install iLife 08 first. Any ideas? When I got my Macbook out of the Apple shop with it's shiny new hard drive I got no disks whatsoever.
And, may I just say a heartfelt THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Apple for pushing us a giant step backwards with your iMovie 08 dud. Thanks, Apple!

it solidly refuses to recognize my iLife 08 suite.
You mean with regard to installing iLife HD 06?
Which I assume you are downloading here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/iMovieHD6
Do you still have the disks that came with the computer originally? It might be worth trying to reinstall iMovie HD 6 that way because it's not going to care if iMovie '08 is present or not.

  • "Please install iLife '08 before installing iMovie HD 6"

Quite awhile ago(A couple of months) I experienced hard drive troubles and had to go to the Apple store to get a new one. I had iLife '08 on there before I got a new had drive, and iMovie 6 worked fine. But now when I try to reinstall iMovie 6, it gives me the message "Please install iLife ’08 before installing iMovie HD 6"
Is there a way to redownload iLife?

Do you still have the OS disks that came with your Mac? If it originally came with iLife 08, they are on one of the disks.

  • Will downloaded iMovie HD 6 install on G4 with iLife '08?

I'm looking to get *iLife '08*, and understand that *iMovie 7* will not install on my *G4 iMac*. I also understand that Apple has made *iMovie HD 6* available to download for owners of *iLife '08*. I've found messages both here and on the net that seem to indicate that *iMovie HD 6* will not install if *iMovie 7* is not installed by *iLife '08* ? Can anyone confirm conclusively that *iMovie HD 6* WILL INSTALL on a G4 that has a version of *iLife '08* lacking *iMovie 7* ?

Never getting an answer to this question, I went ahead and purchased *iLife '08*. As expected the installer will not and did not install *iMovie 7* on a G4. However, I'm happy to report that the downloaded *iMove HD 6* will install after *iLife '08* has been installed even if it doesn't include *iMovie 7*.

  • Install iMovie HD 6 on intel machine with iLife '09

I recently bought a new intel iMac with iLife '09 preinstalled. On my old PowerMac G5, I had iLife '08 installed as well as the free iMovie HD 6 for iLife '08 folks who didn't like the new iMovie. I prefer HD 6 so would like to continue using it. In order to install iMovie HD 6, I need to have iLife '08 installed in its entirety. Is this going to mess up my already-installed iLife '09? iMovie is the only app for which I want to use an older version.

iMovie 06.03 and iMovie 06.04 are believed to be the same program. Except in one area. iMovie 06.04 "looks" to see if you have iLife 08.
If you have iMovie 06.03 you should be able to just copy it onto your new Mac.
Look at what install disks you still have. Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package.
If you have iMovie 06 you CAN download the upgrades for it from Apple.
Also post your question in the iMovie 06 area, you will find many iLife 09 / iMovie 06 users there.

  • Can't install iMovie HD 6 even though i have iLife '08

i have iLife '08, yet i cannot install iMovie HD 6 (i downloaded it from the support site). What could be wrong?

If iMovie 08 is not installed, you cannot install iMovie HD6 from the free download.
I don't think that this is correct. My iMac has the PowerPC chip, and therefore IMovie 08 could not be installed. Installation of the rest of the iLife 08 suite was completed without a problem. Once that was done, I learned (I forgot how) that I could get a free download of iMovie HD 6. The only difficulty that I encountered was what I described in my previous post, which was not finding the new program in the dock.

  • How do i install iMovie 6 onto my new imac with iLife 8?

I have a new imac with iLife 8 installed with Leopard.
I can't get used to the new iMovie 8 and want to instal iMovie 6 (which i am used to and find great).
Can anyone recommend how i can do this?
I don't want to change the other iLife apps, only iMovie 6.
Also the new imac is not at home and not connected to the internet, is there anyway i can do this without being online? can i download a DMG on a different mac and instal on the new one?
    Thanks very much
    Dave

.. is there any risk involved?
    no.
    follow advice given here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2281
basicly: think twice before setting any checkboxes and hitting any 'install' button
I would try the installer disks of your G5.. probably contains iMHD6 ..

  • Installing iMovie 6.04 on a computer with iLife 09

Last year I installed iLife 08 on my G4 and its presence allowed me to download iMovie 6.04 from the Apple site for free while they were allowing that promotion. I have been working with it perfectly with many saved projects and it was my expectation that I should be able to install it on a new Intel iMac 10.5 as long as I have the iMovie 6.04 dmg Install Package.
However there is some confusion about this maneuver where some have said that the dmg will only install when iLife 08 is present and not with iLife 09. It has been suggested that iLife 09 would first have to be trashed and then iLife 08 installed after which the iMovie dmg can then be installed. Then iLife 09 could be reinstalled overriding 08 but allowing 6.04 to coexist.
It would be great to know the answer to this as it is crucial for me to be able to keep the 6.04 application. Has anyone downloaded the free 6.04 dmg package in this way on their computer and then subsequently reinstalled it on a newer computer with iLife 09?
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

    Hi
Ziatron writes in another answer/topic that to be able to install iM 6.0.4 You need to have
    iMovie'08 installed first (iMovie'09 doesn't help)
So either You got to install this first (and it will interfere with iLife9)
    then iMovie HD 6.0.4
    then iLife9
    or
    Install iLife 6 (6.0.3) and then re-install iLife9.
I have iMovie 6.0.4 and iMovie'09 running on same hard disk but I did upgrade
naturally without any eventual reminents on HD from iLife9 first to find and discard.
Seems more tricky then first observed.
Probably I would get an external FireWire hard disk and install Mac OS and iLife
    on this to try first.
PROBLEM. Not all FireWire hard disks are bootable eg Western Digitals.
I use one from Lacie as test-bench.

  • How do I re-install iMovie when it was pre-installed on the iMac and no disks were in the box?

    Hi,
I purchased my iMac in August 2011. It came pre-installed with iMovie and other iLife applications. Recently I have had some issues with iMovie (it crashes on start-up) and i came to the conclusion to try a re-install.
However as it was pre-installed and no disks were provided i'm a little confused how, without purchasing it again in the Mac App store. I have looked in the Mac App store in Purchases and iMovie or no other iLife apps appear there. So i know if i purchase it again i will be charged.
Can any one help - or has had this problem in the past?
Note: I am running Moutain Lion now but when it was purchased it had Snow Lepoard installed and as soon as I booted it up i installed Lion as i was given a free copy by Apple when i bought the Mac. If this helps anything.
    Cheers,
    Tim

    Hi Ralph,
I live in the UK and i have called apple support but it is all automated and as i don't have apple care they said that i would need to open an incident which would cost £35. iMovie on the Mac App store is only £10.50!
do you know of another way of contacting them for an issue like this? is there anyone i can speak to on an online chat?

  • How do I install iMovie on my iMac?

I recently bought a new iMac computer.  I own a MacBook Pro and purchased iMovie and about three other apps on this device.  When I tried to sync all of my apps to the new iMac I noticed that iMovie (and the three or so other apps I bought on my MacBook Pro) does not appear in my iTunes library.  Also, when i go to the apps store to search for iMovie, it states that it's already 'installed' and won't let me select it.
My question: How do I install iMovie (which I've already purchased) on my iMac when it doesn't appear in my iTunes library?
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

I tried to redownload the app - but was not given that option.  When I search and find the app in the app store, it states that the app has been installed and won't let me select it for download.

  • How do I install iMovie '06 on my iMac?

I have the original iLife '06 and am having a problem installing iMovie '06 on my iMac 3.06, 2GB, running Mac OSX 10.5.8. I thought I had installed it, but when I booted it, this message popped up. "You cannot open the application “iMovie HD” because it is not supported on this architecture". I tried to install it again, using the "custom" install, but the name is gray and it cannot be selected. Could someone state the step by step installation instructions. I must be missing something.
    Thanks, Rick

I tried the easy way as suggested by Silly rabbit and installed iMovie '06, but it altered iDVD, and now iDVD will not launch. The way I did it was: 1. booted the iLife '06 installation disk; 2. Moved iMovie '09 and iMovie '08 to the desktop; 3. Selected iMovie '06 from the "Custom" install option; 4. and clicked "Install". While iMovie '06 installing, I saw the iDVD icon flash a few times. After installation, I moved iMovie '09 and '08 back into the application folder and all three iMovie programs booted up, but iDVD did not. Help!
