Cant Install itunes - airtraffichost.dll error

I was bought an Ipod Touch for xmas - needed to upgrade I-Tunes as my old version wouldnt recognise the ipod to sync. Downloaded iTunes 11 - and I cannot install it! I am running Windows Vista.
Basically each time I try this I have an error message when it comes to installing Mobile Device support saying I need to verify access to airtraffichost.dll...
I have uninstalled my old I-Tunes, and certain files still remain which are stopping me from installing the new version. I cannot seem to delete the old Mobile Device Support. Any ideas as I cant use my Ipod until this works......
I have tried using Revo & CC cleaner to delete the remaining apple folders but it keeps denying me from deleting them.
Help!

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 8007054F, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • HT1926 cant install itunes on windows 7 64bit . cant run a required dll

i cant install itunes on windows 7 64bit . when i run the setup and reach the status : "performing installation checks" , it said "there is a problem with this Windows Installer Package . A Dll required for this install to complete could not be run.v..v" what should i do now ?

    That's a bit rarer. It's a 1723 error message. (1721 and 1722 are more common.)
Even though the following user tip is about slightly different errors (the 1721 and 1722), perhaps try it with your one too:

The error hints at a similar pattern to those discussed in the first and third boxes of the user tip, suggesting that you've got an outdated .dll file that needs replacing. You should find CoreMedia.dll in the one of the following folders:
         C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
         C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
Delete it and then repair Apple Mobile Device Support from the Programs and Features control panel. If that doesn't work go for the full tear down and rebuild.

  • Cant install itunes 10.6 no matter what i try! (Windows installer package error)

    I cant install itunes !
I downloaded the latest version from the offcial site, and everytime i try to install it it stops half way due to Windows Installer Package error. It says I'm missing a program required to continue this installation.
I've tried removing all the files with removal tools, running it with admin rights, disabling firewalls, User account controls, updated my Windows update to the latest version. Read all the threads and tried everything but it still doesn't work.
    Does any1 have any suggestions?

Download and save a full itunes setup file.
Use Winrar to unzip the file into a folder.  Then right mouse click the file AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi from that folder to install.
If you don't have winrar, you can go to this link to download a free trial version.

  • Cant install itunes for Win 7...Bonjour error

    Please help

If you have Quicktime installed, and iTunes thinks you don't I can think of one possibility.
Type cmd into your Windows search box and click on cmd under programs.
A back window will open. Type the following following then hit return.
    path
You will get a lot of text, mine looks like this:
    PATH=C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System3 2\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Roxio Shared\10.0\DLLShared\;c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Roxio Shared\DLLShared\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared;C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\
    These are a list of folders separated by ;
    The last one is quicktime.
You need to scan through the folders and check that each one actually exists. If a folder in the list doesn't exist, iTunes will never find Quicktime on the end.
If there is a problem I can tell you how to edit the path to fix the problem.

  • I cant install itunes it keeps on saying "service apple mobile failed to start" and i keep on reinstalling it but that keeps on coming up

i cant install itunes it keeps on saying "service apple mobile failed to start" and i keep on reinstalling itunes but i keep on getting the message.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • HELP I cant install itunes 10.5 on Vista

My husband is going to kill me...I was trying to update iTunes so I could update my iPad and I kept getting the same error message, "The installer has insufficient priviledges to modify this file: C\programfile\apple software update\softwareupdate.resources\software update.tiff" So  I stupidly uninstalled iTunes and now it won't reinstall - I get the same error message. I don't know what to do! I attempted to uninstall the Apple Software Update program as well but I kept getting error messages telling me I don't have permission...  I'm about ready to panic.... Our computer has Vista running on it...

Hello Vista People!  It has taken me an entire day to fix the problem that NOT A SINGLE POST clearly answered the issue of "cant install iTunes 10.5" on my vista machine.  Or worse yet, the problem I was getting was a Windows Installer error.  What I discovered was that there was a corrupted Apple Software Update program.  When I did as so many have suggested, and uninstalled all the Apple products, and then reinstalled, and was unable to get a iTunes 10.5 to install.  The key to notice if you have this problem is that when you look in the Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features, you will notice that Apple Software Update is showing, but there is no "publisher"....there is a file size, about 2.5 mb for me (yours could be different).  And when you right clicked or 'selected' the program in the the "uninstall or change a program" mode in the Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features you would not get anything to do.  You couldnt uninstall it.  So after uninstalling and reinstalling repeatedly, I noticed that the Apple Software Update simply was not able to be 'changed'.  So, I downloaded from Microsoft "Fixit" the program called:  Microsoftfixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.run.exe  found here:  http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall  I then ran this program and when asked how I wanted it to work, I selected the equivalent of "Let me" make the decisions, (Not the automatic fix) and then selected that I wanted to "Uninstall".  When it finished running, it gave me a list of programs to 'uninstall' and I selected Apple Software Update.  When it completed, I checked the Control Panel>Programs and Apple Software Update was gone.  Once it was gone, I was able to install iTunes 10.5 without a problem, and better yet, I also noticed after the installation, in the Control Panel>Programs Apple Software Update was listed with a Publisher.  Now everything works.  I believe there is some issue with Vista corrupting the Apple Software Update software during the uninstall process and Windows Installer doesn't deal with it correctly.  I hope at least one other person can benefit from this, because NOWHERE did anyone do, suggest or clearly advise on how this was to be done.

  • Cant install itunes 10.5

why i cant install itunes 10.5 on my alienware windows 7 64-bit? ive been trying for 3 days now, still it says error on windows installer package. can anyone help me??

Open regedit using "run as administrator".
    Go to the registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInstallerUserDataS-1-5-1 8Components
    ...and selected the folder DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8
(there are three folders with very similar names A,B & C you want the first one)
    Right click & choose Permissions
Click Advanced, and then the Owner tab
Type  (not administrators) in current owners field and check the box to replace the owner on subcontainer and volumes
Apply settings and then click Permissions tab. Once again, add  (not administrators) to the list of permission entries, then click edit and check all permission boxes. Also click the 2 bottom boxes concerning the inheritable permissions.
[Note: In my case I was a member of administrators and administrators was already set in all of the above settings - I've no idea why it needed to be set to my user rather than the administrator group, anyway it solved the problem for me]
    Click OK
Now back on the main permissions tab, add  in the user name window and then check full control and read checkboxes. Click OK.
On the menu bar click file > exit
But if u have the message pop up more then once then just make the permissions for the entier S-1-5-18Components folder
